Chrono Chrysalis Announcement Trailer

Deep within the magical underwater city known as Terra Hollow, strange plagues and anomalies begin to befall humanity. When an ambitious scientist named Kalos obtains a mysterious stone that allows him to travel through time, he is spiraled into a grand adventure through the future post-apocalyptic sea and 2000 years in the past where humans lived above the skies. Kalos begins trying to solve strange paradoxes in the universe by rewriting the entire history of the world. A very action packed and psychological story that questions the morality between what is right and what is wrong.

Chrono Chrysalis's story is inspired by Death Note , Code Geass and Chrono Cross

What is Chrono Chrysalis?
A ambitious RPG made in memory of a dieing genre. JRPGs are something I grew up playing in the golden psx era days and its always something I wanted to build. Chrono Chrysalis is my personal reflection of the genre and one I hope grows with the community in LBP2. Chrono Chrysalis has been planned for roughly three years, but time and time again I have failed to create this game or got busy with life and never quite did anything with it. Now that the Memorizer was released, I discovered my vision was actually possible and decided to attempt to release this game and share my vision with the community. After much rebuilding, grueling days and sleepless nights, we finally have something to show. This is planned spanning five episodes and will release in multiple parts.

Does this have anything to do with Chrono Trigger?
No Chrono Chrysalis is a completely original idea, and is influenced by Chrono Trigger and dozens of RPGs we have grown up playing, even western games.


Meet the Main Development Team
Xyphas--Developer and Creator
Many of you may have met me at some point on the forums. I am an unknown creator with publishing block. I have been with LBP2 for three years and never released a single level. My first RPG I built for a year, only to lose it to a dead PS3.

Dabsaroka--Monster and Costume Designer
This is my right hand man. Also a very brilliant unknown creator. I cant wait to show off his contributions. All the monsters and costumes were made by this guy.

Tyranny68--Lead Scenery Designer
Quite simply the one of the best scenery guys I have ever seen in LBP2. The amount of things this guy built in one week is truly mind boggling and our project would not be the same without his art contributions.

Waaaghgork--Scenery Designer
A young but determined worker. Waaaghgork was only 12 years old, but he has been with me since the beginning when I was very poor with logic. He has been gone for a year or so and may never come back, but this kid brought a lot of energy and determination to the group. I am very proud of him.

Xtremesackboy--Scenery Designer
Tyranny's right hand man lol. Xtreme is a great scenery designer as well

Nerdzdadestroyer--Object Designer
Nerdz has been with the project for a while and has been my right hand man with the scenery. He was responsible for making what ever objects he wanted and he sent them to me. We actually made a mind blowing scene many who have seen it said it was among the best visuals they have seen in LBP2. Go team!

Actors
Rialress--The MM picked creator voices the intro for our game. As usual Ria shows great skill not only in creativity, but voice acting.

We are actually in need of more voice actors. If you are interested I have started doing auditions for the game. Just follow the directions below:

Voice Actors Application
Gender: Male, Female (or perhaps alien? jk)
Voice age: Do you sound like a 16 year old, although you are really 30? Here you just record what age your voice sounds.
Voice Tone: Is it light, average, or deep?
Position seeking: Main Role, Sub Character

(Main Role: Are the main party members that join the team. The requirements are just the willingness to do battle voice overs. Its typically slightly more challenging than voicing a sub character. Typically the star actors of movies

Sub Characters: There are no prerequisites, but there is the option to voice multiple Sub Characters)

After the application is submitted to me here or in private messaging, I will send you an audition which is three mouths for the character I think you will fit. If you pass, then you are on the Voice Actors team biggrin.gif

We really need another female character especially. But all others feel free to join. Any race or ethnicity can be of use to us. If you want to give it a shot, there is no discrimination and its all for fun. This is a very large idea, and all contributors will be showcased and credited.

Wow that looks really awesome and you should definitely stick to the FF title since it's quite a mix of different Final Fantasies and it's the final fantasy that actually caught my eye since I'm quite a big fan of Final Fantasy. I'm thinking of making a mushroom forest of the Crystal Chronicles one but I can't make monsters and I'm not sure I can get all the logic right yet. I admire how much you've been able to do yourself, so much logic.
Unfortunately I can't really contribute I'm not very good with scenery, my main two strong points are in making good stories and cut scenes
Looks very promising hope you can find some people with the right talent to help you with the level

Anything. I use invisible boxes with sackbots and microchips for really complicated monsters for health calculations, as for animations they need a casting animation and an attack animation--it doesn't have to be super complicated, and if need be i can help them move (the hardest thing about rpgs is getting them back in place after attacking) Again i can handle the logic and programming, i mostly need designs, if your good with animations even better.

The skies the limit on style--anything, but i prefer classic Final Fantasy monsters like Flans, Malabros, bombs and i really need help designing the summons. Right now i am mainly looking for variety

Hmm, well providing you dont develop the personality complex of chree (running the FF7 rebuild) then id consider joining.

Mainly interested in enviroment design/art. I can also do props/object design. Not so good on character design however, and while i am a games programmer by proffession, the logic in LBP gets on my nerves, so as little of that as possible is great

The things is, most of the games battle logic is done. We are in the stage of programming enemies, the problem is my monster designer hasn't contacted me in about 2 weeks, and i just finished programming the one he gave me. So right now we are waiting on enemy designs. So i only really need help with cutscene and enemy logic( each enemy will have different tactics)--which is huge all on its own.

I guess it depends on what exactly you want to do --or can do

i've seen your music level and honestly i wasn't impressed, it seems you have some tune there, but its not coming together in the end. If you want to make a track for this game, its going to take some more thought, all the people composing are doing their very best quality of work, and of course you are willing to try, but based on that music level, with all due respect, your style wont fit into the game.

update-- what we need now are testers, and some monster designers--the one we have is either to busy or jumped ship. He hasnt contacted me, so i could use a hand in monster designs. Its fairly easy to program, i have the logic in place, all i need are more monsters. Doesnt have to be one, in fact the more the merrier.

Whoever can help, please message me in some way, im trying to get this game out soon.

Ok i added you, and to the group too, its mostly just design/development talk there but you can feel free to spout whatever opinion on the features there

Update-The testing this week is canceled, there are a couple things im trying out, so most likely next week is when ill be asking for opinions on the battle system. I got a couple lined up to test, so yea we are still underway--perhaps delayed by a week. Schools been a killer...

Im still taking monster designers, composers, and i think we are good on scenery for now. Its a little early, but voice acting will be in the game, i'll be updating the thread with the characters and what type of voice they need.

Have an update on Chrono Breaks status. Mainly at a request by a team member, as constructing the scenery and Monsters can get very overwhelming. If you want to join, feel free to post here and list your talents. We mostly been working out the systems first, but now development is going really fast. You are, however, Its because i have listed our main jobs, Waahgorks been doing a ton of scenery, as opposed to you doing a ton of music tracks. I felt its unprofessional to list every possible way people are contributing here; The thread would be far to long , especially my role in this project lol SO i listed everyone greatest contributions to the project--your music rocks, you should be proud of that. Just know we will have very long credits lol

This is the recruitment thread, i will update the name to make it more official, but it always was. Pretty much shows the concept of the game, and ask people to join. Remember, creating this game isnt a job, so i didnt want it to feel that way. I want everyone to have fun creating this

I have found plenty of shortcuts, the battle chip doesn't take up half the screen anymore and everythings a lot cleaner. SO yea ill give him a shot---i could use someone having my back logic wise with the art team getting so bigger, i want friends too!!! lol

Well there are actually two positions as well. It depends, are you better at monsters or scenery? We want your best. If you cant think of any original monsters, we have drawn concepts of monsters with detailed instructions on creating them in LBP2 .

Which do you want to do? Remember if you choose monsters, you dont have to make them move--i can do that.

I think you should give him something to create right now, like an indoor house or inside a weapon shop maybe? Who knows how long the PSN will be down, it would be cool if he could create a little something to show you when you all meet.

The thing about monsters is that Dapiek makes it very easy to create them, most of our designs look exactly like the concept. Your main Jobs up to LittleBigSoandSo, though we are gonna need some more man power for the monsters as well--its a very big game for LBP2. You can go for both positions, just dont overload yourself.

I dont necessarily hate top down, but i think the only thing that will be top down is the world map. I want the game to say mostly realistic and cinematic.

We still got spots open and try to have a mic or keyboard too.

Alright i felt the position names are a little stale and our jobs are so huge, so i spiced them up a bit lol You art guys may have some other--weird name you want, you can be whatever . I will update it next week with who exactly is one these teams and what their roles are, i just have the leaders right now. What do you guys think?

On the Front Page, since most people make small contributions--we do have a lot of people. So i felt its best if we divide people into teams.

Logic Team
Music Team
Art Team
and Design Team

We will list out every possible way people contributed in the credits, but for now, we will go with everyone's main Jobs. I will update it on Sunday maybe if the network is up with our official positions. It felt a little more organized doing it this way.


Oh yea, Littleso, just post the pictures on the group discussions. Its a little more organized and tedious than sending them to two different people--of course i dont judge Art Work, but i do want to look at it as well.

If you have an SD card you can use that as a substitute for a USB stick. Other then that you can take a picture with your phone (if it has a camera) and upload it onto Photobucket or something directly from your phone if it would allow it and if you really must show it to Xyphas.

Battle voices as in grunts,being hit, spell casting and the such yes? I can indeed if that is what you are referring to.

Hero or Villain type of voice? Well I can do both but I would consider that my Villain voice is superior (not by much though).
The closest I can describe one of my "voices" would be Golbez and Kain (although not as deep) from Final Fantasy 4.
I can of course do other pitches and types but I have no comparison for those.

I think i will give you a shot at one of our female leads. I have one so far but we do need more. I will send you a bio, so you can get the feel of that character and their personality. Actually I think i could use you, we needed a cleaner Hud because the battle system is very involved and we need a cleaner look for the player to get quicker access to important information. I based if off of Xenogears/Saga's hud, but combat is a lot faster than that, so I felt the portraits at the top of the screen was quite distracting, you probably cant even see the limit gauge on the character--maybe barely lol At the same time i dont want to go the FF 7 display because i am already helping to make FF 7...i was thinking something like the FF XIII display. idk yet

Our camp menus have to be redone too, so i guess it depends on what you want to do exactly. Dont worry about the Turn-based stuff, i already got it taken care of; Theres a lot of things i havent mentioned thats in this game and saving for the full reveal. But i have already figured all the logic out. If you could help with menu modeling or improve our battle spells or huds, i think we can find a place for you

The more help i get, the faster this game is released...

Well I am usually pretty busy with my game, and I have to put a lot of time into it since I'm a control freak and wan't to do it all... lol.
I figured I would just pop in with whatever little details you wanted, and HUDs I definitely can do
Sadly I have never played Chrono Trigger or any FFs...lol. You did say "flashiness of MVC3 which I do play and am actually playing as I type this lol) But I feel like if anyone does a "tribute" to another game in LBP (be it combat system, story or whatever) I feel that it should definitely compliment the real game so I'l probably have to take a look at screen shots of the HUDs if you wan't something specific... or come up with something new and unique! Its your call

Some people liked the portraits there, but i can do that later. I really dont mind if you do something original, but the stat displays have to be on the bottom. And the Attack menu should be on the farthest left, sense everyone reads left to right.

It doesnt have to be functional, i mostly need a design and i can make it work. Keep in mind, we need A limit guage and another guage for EACH character. Thats why i thought we could use the room on the character information shown on the character in the first picture.

so TWO gauges differently colored( counter or timer), one of them being sectioned like Xenosaga. Look at the last gauge under the character portrait, the three sectioned one. Yea i need that, i will get into why later, because if you do help make something, you will be added to the group like all the voice actors. Then put some random numbers to represent where the Health and MP goes.( We use numbers in my game)

This is Final Fantasy XIII.
See the little green lines to the right of the character stats, Thats an ATB guage. When it fills, that character gets a turn. Thats Hud might look weird with our side scrolling battle system though i haven't tried it yet.

So yea that's a lot of gauges, three plus the HP and MP display. Until i can think of another way to display Limit breaks...this is going to have to be one hell of a hud lol

Nope, this is not him. No one commented on the new Hud design i wanted and this guy was the only one interested. I will probably still come to you guys for font and making the hud prettier, but right now we need a really pretty design.

There are essentially two types of Logic

Animation Logic and Design Logic

So far i have been doing the animation logic and everyone said those are pretty epic as it is:

Animation logic involves making material characters move, and pulling of flashy and memorable animations for various characters and enemies--or battle spells even use some logic. It can get complicated, but its not as hard as design logic. This involves cutscenes as well

Design Logic is VERY complex. Which is why I left a bunch of notes. This is defiantly the most boring part of creating--though its fun for me, i didnt really expect anyone to apply for design logic. You have to make enemies act based on their monster concepts, and make them act intelligently

If you can understand my monster chip, which I left a ton of notes for, then you may be able to help me out with logic a bit. Ultimately this is the longest part of the game, so i really just ask for more people to draw out the monsters or scenery--since i am very busy with logic.

So if you want the test, i can send it to you

We aren't thinking about side quest right now, its hard enough just fitting the battle system in the game--so we wont get into that just yet. I could use some costumes, we have a ton of characters. Oooo xyphas what about a gauge to represent stuff instead of a bar? looking at the logo you could have a specific gauge or even 1 with 2 separate hands like a mana minute hand and a health hour hand. I think that would be unique and has not been done much and the logic wouldnt be so bad for it really.
Of course I only think this is applicable from looking at the logo, maybe its an ignorant assumption but regardless, Ive never seen it done.

Well we defiantly want numbers for health and mp otherwise the player will have a lot of trouble knowing how much health or magic they have left...it could make an interesting Limit or AG gauge though--i never thought about that. If you wanted to see how it looks, feel free to experiment. Just remember the information has to be easy to read and understand, most of the games flashiness comes from the combat. Remember my concept was my first idea, but i have posted a few rpgs in this thread to give you an idea what the hud could look like. This should look like a turnbased game, so dont over do it. That clockish gauge caught my interest though

Edit: Maybe even that could be the ATB gauge--representing the time it takes for a character to get a turn and the clock would be really symbolic, but again...i cant decide if its too distracting or freakishly brilliant

Nope, he said he would be inactive for a few days though. It gives me a chance to catch up i suppose, since our battle system is slightly different but better and more fun than the last one. Its coming, though of course i am still worried about the saving system. Then obviously PSN being down is somewhat effecting my progress with other things; Our costume designer finalized our main characters but i cannot get them for animation
We still got a ways to go, but since my finals week is about over, development will speed up tremendously.

I want to beat E3--thats the goal. However, depending on how many artist we get, will affect the release date. Its hard to give a rough estimate of completion, however, i do intend to keep everyone updated on our project from time to time. Needless to say we are still on track

By animation its simply basic---a lot of the notes come with attack animations...thats what i mean, Though the monsters arent nearly as complex as character animation--minus bosses. Wow its already been like 3 or 4 months lol I lost track of time...

But heres a huge update, i feel bad for refusing so many request to join me, but the game is growing too complex and the lag will probably kick you any way. For now, i have finally updated my progress and i will be updating every week until the release of the game which is hopefully in August. This week is the Alpha test, and if it proves successful, expect even more bizarre updates from this massive roleplaying project.

I like the name. A chrysalis is nothing like a crystal. It's a stage of butterfly: iirc it's when the cocoon is just about ready to open. Crystal is certainly overused, but I like the sound of chrysalis.

Seems like a crazy ambitious project (and I thought I was reaching for the stars): I'll be interested to see how well it turns out.

Thats a fair nitpick actually, i guess i need to explain,

I recently learned in writing class to always do the title last, and the problem with the previous title is that it was ripped from a game that never got released. At the time, the plot was unfinished and it was something more for publicity, but after i got YLOD and started writing actual the story, the title didnt make much sense with the plot. We actually came up with a ton of names, but CC had so much more plot relevance and irony, that we decided to stick with it.

This isnt something we just decided, in fact, it was Chrono Chrysalis 4 months ago( Nerds leaked in his sig ). The actual meaning of this is something players will have to discover for themselves, but it isnt some terminology we threw together because it sounded good. The Chrysalis does sound simillar to Crystallis now that i think about it, but like Sehven mentioned, it means something totally different.

You know me, im the master of Typos lol Actually, the saving is the other Achilles Heel as the fact that it has all of these elements means i have to design a complex saving system( I will give to the community as well). May need some feedback from the community on that one as far as what would be the best option for designing it.

Runelet was originally a very huge progression grid like FF X in Chrono Break, however, given the way LBP operates, i had to condense it immensely into something smaller, given that players would have to re-allocate abilites whenever i have to level link or when they load the game.

Sorta why, i am doing the Alpha Test. I dont want players to have to re-allocate abilities too often, in fact, i dont plan on having that much level links. The game saves your location, level and equipment, so once you load or level link, you get back all the SP you would have acquired up to that level. And i tried it many times, it only takes like 15 seconds to re-allocate skills, so it doesnt get annoying like Junction in FF VIII. Thats the plan off of my head is to basically create real save points, i think its the only way this can work. I will get into this next week as to how exactly this will work, may even make a separate poll for it.

This does mean you can bring over powered characters to the beginning of the game, but its kinda unavoidable lol

I accept costumes from other people, in fact thats the last thing the game needs. Dapiek has really took his time with the different classes and main characters designs, but hes also been doing a ton of monster designs( we have around 25), so we are left with a ton of npcs that have no designs yet. Good question,

The tutorials are seamless and will guide you and make sure you understand the concepts before moving on, but players who played a Final Fantasy before, can skip most of them and understand how combat works. By complex I mean there's a lot you can do in the game, but its very easy to learn. I have been working on the pacing, and I do want all audiences to be able to enjoy it. I think the game touches more genre's than Turnbased RPG , so while the core combat may be a bit different at first, you will feel right at home in other aspects of the game.

I'll try to post some screens/ more info in the coming weeks

So ehhh yeah, little teaser up again on the first post. Expect a ton of information after this week. This picture hints at the games concept, and I also was going to ask the community about voice acting. Well some guys on the team want voice acting while others do not. I even made a blog about this a while ago and maybe I should just do a poll?

But I was wondering do people prefer voice acting or imagining characters voices? Also assume I can find the best voice actors around LBP. Would greatly appreciate the communities opinion on the matter.

The choice between voice acting and no voice acting depends on a lot of things...
If the voice acting is good and CLEAR (which a lot of the time it isn't) then surely it would be a great asset to the series or any other series for that matter.
Sometimes though if the voice acting is good for a character in a scene but not clear I would probably have preferred that character to be silent and let the music set the mood for that specific scene.

There is also the "What if" and "Maybe he talks like..." mystery going on which would certainly keep myself and some other people interested.
If you can find someone who can give you a clear and good recording then I don't see why you shouldn't use voice acting (beside the obvious limitations like the Thermo).
However if you were to use voice acting don't over use it, save it for the important scenes or certain battles. It will have more of an impact that way.

Skin Colors? Im not sure what you mean exactly. There is a couple black characters in the game, if you mean racial differences. But teh yea, Its text heavy. I thought about games like Mass Effect and how they have a ton of text as well, but it doesnt seem like it because of the great voice acting. Perhaps, the LBP community doesnt mind reading, yet, I ponder the potential effect Voice Acting could have as opposed to without it.

12 plus actually pertains to the violence. While there are some mature references, only older audiences will notice them or even pay attention to them. I was a bit worried about some of the violence--while there is no blood or gore, some of the depictions may not be suitable for 7 year olds, and some of the monsters may be a bit scary.

Thanks, and I dont mean to keep everyone in the dark so long, but there is a ton we had/have to work out. About 85 percent of the enviornments are done, and all the monsters and bosses are done. The first chapters story is complete. If we keep focus we should make the release date. In the mean time I am slowly unveiling information on the game, so check out the first post. I will try to get the cast on here later on and probably a few pictures.

My progress has been delayed, because of things that happened that Christmas week, however, after a couple quick remodeling, I will begin posting pictures, and confirm the team that helped me put this together.

Haha, Im already getting the messages( The release date was today...but eh yea first post edited lol). The contest deadline has been extended, so we will make good use of the extra time.

And yea of course. I can use pretty much any voice of any accent. Ill look into the plot thread and send you some mouths and an add if you got space? Main characters may need battle voices though( not a lot), but I do see a few people being uncomfortable with this. One person has done great so far, and shes female surprisingly, so I am excited to see what voices enter the game.

Would you say your voice is...deep or teenagerish...possibly younger? Again doesnt really matter, this just helps me find a couple potential characters you will be great at voicing. I see you are american too, so yea just need that little bit of information.

well I sound young using the mic but I also alter my voices and such...I could do Arnold Schwarzenegger and a really deep voice like Don La Fontaine (the deep voice movie guy), and other things.

I would make that voice acting level like before but I've been busy with work and I suck at making levels so I haven't bothered hehe but yeah I can do some voices

Just listened to them and only one word can explain what I just heard: Awesome! Theres a chance you will voice the main character. I found the girl that will play the female lead, and I think you guys voices match up pretty well--I was surprised how well the last line was executed without any cutscenes.

Im going to be really busy today, but I will have my final decision sometime tommorrow. Will also give me some time to hear other people, but thanks for the great audition.

Sort of yea. I just applied drop shadows to other fonts and then took pictures of them. I had to them really small for the menus and save of thermo.

Its also a really large game, and despite having so many talented artist to help with some visuals, 80 percent of the game, I have to build on my own. And its a monster. If you guys send me a friend request, I can issue out keys for the beta. It is reaching that public playable stage, but I really want to surprise MM with this one.

lolz yea I just noticed that...um sorry...

I could send you a key around Valentines day. I am getting ready for the next beta. The full game wont be done for at least a month or so maybe. ( Even though you could probably take those dates with a grain of salt by now lol). I want it to feel really good and polished. Good news is, I now have time to go to my voice actors. A ton of people joined, and now I can probably have a fully voiced game. or at least a lot of VA's, which is something I know people wanted to see.

This monster was hand designed by our very own monster designer, who has a separate blog (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/entry.php?9070-Underrated-Creators-The-Man-Behind-the-Monsters)about him in fact. We have a ton of monsters, over 20 in fact, and hears a teaser of one of them.

Tyranny also is back in the group, and I will be showcasing his brilliant contributions along side xtremesackboy, waaagork and nerzds. Its truly amazing, but I wont show it just yet.

Dont worry about the project, we are still going. I got some messages online and perhaps some formal assurance will insure, that people know the project is still in strong development. Mainly its just a lot of things to do, and not really a lot of time to do it. So for now, you guys will just have to look at some teasers lol

Some random facts:

We are running several beta's before releasing the game
The mysterious save system called "Sync" is currently in development( more information on that soon)
All the monsters, bosses, and environments are done
Still debating on having voice actors

Well a couple Beta's could mean that or just the opposite. It depends on how everything goes. And I am not sure if I want to give out Beta keys either. The series will improve with each episode based on feedback, I think I have delayed the game enough. The Beta's will just test for things like crashing and stability/ Difficult balancing etc. And unless its something substantial, this may be release after the March/April rpg craze( ME3, Tales of Graces F, Xenoblade etc.)

But wow, over 10000 views! I would be happy if I got 5 percent of those plays lol But I guess I should prepare something for our 1 year anniversary! Cant believe its already been that long.

lol, oh yea, and I will be having a few different polls from time to time. So please vote for your most preferred options( Or FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE!! ...ehh jk )

First one is about difficulty, and all of these will not require grinding whatsoever, so you can still go straight through the story on hard mode. However, on Hard it will be possible to die in pretty much any fight-- think FF XIII without party leader death--meaning each fight will require some degree of strategy.

Medium will mean most regular fights will be average difficulty, but bosses will still be challenging. Easy mode will mean you will rarely die.

Unfortunately, there is not enough space to have multiple difficulty options, so there will be no switching once its done. (Too much work ). However, difficulty issues and any other major problems will be addressed in episode 2.

Well I don't think there's a right or wrong way to make a turnbased RPG. Just find your vision and stick with it. I usually recommend doing a light project first. Have fun with it. If you want to do something serious:

1. Know what type of battle system you want. In essense, there are really only two kinds: turnbased or timebased/realtime. For the first time though, I would try to replicate a battle system from an RPG u like before making your own up.
2. Develop logic to be emmitted rather than preset. Turnbased will use tons of thermo if you are not careful. Emmitted logic allows you to delete it when you don't need it. Better yet, emit as much as possible.
3. Use selectors for turns. It was almost made for it.
4. Start with 1vs1 turnbased battles first before doing something bigger.
5. Trial and error. You won't get it the first try, just keep at it.

Other tips vary depending on what u want. Shoot me a message if u want help.

The game will feature audio options, so those who do want to play thier rpg without VA, will be able to do that. Its the best solution because the community seemed to be about 50-50 on the subject of voice acting.

Chapter Ones plot is currently being edited. I think its gonna end up being about 20 pages long. Yes its huge. However the cut scene to gameplay ratio is about 1:4. Theres a lot of story, and a lot of the game will still be reading text( for full VA would take a Bioware team and we just dont have that much talent or quality).

In other news, I have begun exploring a multiplayer possiblity, although it depends on how the game handles one player first. As for the difficulty, based on the pole, a vast majority of the community wants the medium difficulty. So the game will have one difficulty setting that is very balanced, with the option of side quest to challenge the hardcore crowd.

I plan to update at the end of the week with the cast( and hopefully their actors!)
I got about two strong weeks of dev to shell this game out( long story, getting a new job). It wont make the new year, but hopefully can catch the winter break

Actually from the first Beta, most players reported the game had normal loading times. So its not going to be any longer than say Felkroths Frozen Flame. Its more the design of the game that makes it more lengthy than other lbp levels and not due to it using more data.2012-12-26 22:47:00

Currently finishing the final plot draft of the game and preparing the next beta, which is the most important step in the game releasing. Character Biographies will also be released next week. Heres a sneak peak at one of the main characters:

As far as progress. I am currently recording voices while I assemble the "boring " stuff. Yes all the enemies and rpg logic has to be balanced out. I have been delaying quite a bit, nevertheless I am pleased with the support I have been getting. This has been a fun--yet very difficult project to create due to its design and time constraints.

It really helps knowing people are interested because I do think its a very special game. Huge update coming soon!

Just updating, we are finally at the stage of reeling in voice actors. I had to delay it again, because I need my editor to look at my final plot draft.

We started some voice work, even MM picked creator Railress joined the Fray!

We also began experimenting with a bit of 3D segments, however, this isnt as polished as the rest of the game. I began extruding some of the environments the team made and it produced an interesting perspective on the world. Does anyone like 3D?

Experimented a bit more with 3D. It does give the game an FF X feel. It can rotate to face both directions. I am unsure how much I will put in the game. A bit of 3D platforming could be more annoying than it is innovative if the controls arent tight.

Announcement: For the past couple months there have been some major revisions to the games plot. For that reason, I have removed all of the previous information on the game in favor of the newest update. A lot of the game has been repainted or updated. After two years of development, you find little improvements like that.

Anyway, this is still going to be the true JRPG Littlebigplanet experience i think many people wanted to see. Two years is no gauge of this levels quality, but more the ambition and passion we have for JRPG games. It taken this long because most of our team has grown up and just stated getting busy with life. In short, we create in short burst or when we are bored lol But-- our hopes is too create an RPG that also gets the community involved--maybe I can pass the torch to tons of other rpg makers in LBP2( I am far too busy these days!). Its too early to tell.

Littlebigplanet really is a great medium for role playing and our project will prove just that. With our only challenge being creating a save system. However we have found workarounds to all these questions and one I hope to share with you all very soon. I have updated the first page with a date for which the game will be revealed, and hopefully a release date. I can say we will not be waiting for Littlebigplanet hub as this is a LBP2 title.

Cant wait to show this off, see you guys at the end of September!

Yup, but it has been tweaked by Dapiek lol Since we lost your Shiva model on my dead ps3, two years ago, we decided to take the base model you designed and create an entirely different summon. We wont have any summons from Final Fantasy, they will all be original. Ooo I probably wasnt supposed to say that

Teaser of the games equipment system

I am going to stick the the schedule of finishing the game this month. The reason for the release date is because I registered the game for the Sack Quest Competition. Believe it or not, Chrono Chrysalis is my first level that will be published in LBP ever. I want to measure it up with the best creators and I think it will get more attention that way as I am an unknown for the most part. I will be looking for two testers once the game is finished. When the game enters that stage, I will announce it. Voice actors will begin recording in January.

I hope you enjoy the teaser. Only JRPG fans may be able to analyze whats going on here. I decided to release a gameplay trailer next to explain and show off some of the game design. There wont be an official Trailer until next year--but its defiantly closer than you think!

Thank you. There was a point where I gave up, but competition has really fueled this rusty engine and motives. I was orginally shooting for hub, but Feb 14th is the earliest I can publish a level to be eligible for entry. That does mean we will be able to get more testing in. There wont be any additional content--I dont want to add too much more to it at this point as we could risk loading issues.

Gameplay and story details coming this month and a Trailer in January, followed by a launch trailer Feb 13th.

With the release of the DLC pack, things obviously will change with this project. A lot of the design went toward not having a tool like the Memorizer. I am pleased to report, Chrono Chrysalis will now feature a simple saving system. All the items, skills and secret unlocks you earn will be saved. Without saying too much, other choices made throughout the game by the player will be saved as well.

The Challenge now is limiting the amount of Memorizers the game will take. Right now though, to do what I want with the game, it may take around 7-9. I am going to include an option to turn off Memorizer saves for certain elements of the game, but I figured, there wont be many games that use as much data as Chrono Chrysalis and the players wont mind as long as the journey is well crafted.

What do you guys think? Would you mind if an RPG used a fifth of your data slots? Any feedback is welcome.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The contest has been delayed until March 7th. I will be releasing the game three days after now on March 10th. ( We cannot publish early or will be disqualified.)

In answer to your question, this game isn't designed like other LBP levels. I cant go into too much detail yet, but I will explain it soon and mostly deals with the memorizer. This games design will not change to fit into the contest, nor will any of the length be cut. After some discussion in our group, we decided to separate the experience in two sub chapters. I didn't realize we had this much content.

The first half of Chapter 1 will be entitled Genesis and will be entered into the contest. Genesis is more cinematic, but still introduces most of the games mechanics to the player.

The second half of the Chapter will be entitled Prisoners of Time, which most people might recognize from my first post on this threads. The second half is a lot more open and expands upon what was already established in Genesis.

Both are still the first chapter and transition to each other seamlessly, and all published with the series name Chrono Chrysalis. Players will not have to worry about the chapter distinction, but the game will have a note for the judges, so that they know when to stop judging, save their game and exit.

What I hope to accomplish with this design, is to lure more players into the RPG genre, without feeling like they are forced too.

I will update this with information in Feburary. I have been working very hard on this.

Ok, so to explain why I removed all the pictures from years ago is because I have completely redesigned Chrono Chrysalis from the ground up-again. The story has been reworked because it would have probably been banned for mature content. All the logic you see, all the cutscenes, were done in probably less than two months. So again, I have put a lot of work into this the past couple weeks. And the results are great

To make a long story short, it was necessary in order to accommodate the memorizer. A direction I didnt think we could take is now possible.

Small battle system teaser. I am not gonna show the monsters yet, so in its place, is Dapiek's hand created and distorted sack boy

We have over 15 unique regular mobs, and believe it or not, about 6 boss battles. I am not sure how long the game is..but right now I am just focused on finishing by our original release date, Feb 14th. This will be the only sneak peak of the battle system for a while. Since it is still in the competition stage, I wont be releasing too much info, as it can spoil a lot of the game.

I cannot guarantee the Prisoners of Time will release March 10th. But Genesis is well on track. But the goal is to still have both parts done by March 10.

Two years+! That's some serious dedication! I abandoned my own large scale project a couple of years ago and I am seriously impressed that you've been able to stick with it this long. I have to admit the release of the memorizer had me tempted to revisit my old idea but I just don't have that kind of time any more.

Love the character designs and the logo! I can't wait to see how well it all goes together. And I'm seriously impressed by the music but that may be partially due to the fact that I have absolutely no musical talent so the process of composing is a complete mystery to me. Two years+! That's some serious dedication! I abandoned my own large scale project a couple of years ago and I am seriously impressed that you've been able to stick with it this long. I have to admit the release of the memorizer had me tempted to revisit my old idea but I just don't have that kind of time any more.

Love the character designs and the logo! I can't wait to see how well it all goes together. And I'm seriously impressed by the music but that may be partially due to the fact that I have absolutely no musical talent so the process of composing is a complete mystery to me. Wow its been that long. I remember talking to you briefly about your project which did look awesome!

The music is definantly not one of my merits. It was really just reaching out to a couple composers. Most of them were supportive of what I was doing and would send me tracks when they finished. It really helps having the support of some of the community.

There were moments when this project was on a long haitus, but competition really got me to take this project up again. A lot of its really been completely rebuilt the past three months, so it doesnt even feel like its been that long to be honest.

I will be doing a video walkthrough on my college break, which should be in March sometime. Though it sucks to hear about your ps3. I know how it is because thats is what caused me to lose my first rpg two years ago.

Hello Loafsy,

Thank you, its been quite the journey working on this. I think the games development time will make more sense when I layout just how many times I changed this games design, only now to go back to our original design because of the memorizer. However, I am really glad it released when it did.

I will send you an audition in a couple days. I was going to wait a couple more weeks, but it probably wouldnt hurt to start getting voice actors now. Dapiek, also my editor, will be looking over the Final Draft, due to moderation concerns.

This is straight from my Voice Actors thread, which will be going live again next week. Please fill in this and I will send you an audition based on what you put down. The auditions are very detailed.

Gender: Male, Female
Voice age: (Do you sound like a 16 year old, although you are really 30? Here you just record what age your voice sounds.)
Voice Tone: (Is it light, average, or deep? )
Position seeking: Main Role, Sub Character

(Main Role: Hold significant plot relevance. Its typically slightly more challenging than voicing a sub character as they may require you to do some battle voice overs, but they earn a lot more showcase including a special spot in the opening credits 20-30 lines)

Sub Characters: There are no prerequisites, but there is the option to voice multiple Sub Characters. Generally these are people that have no significant plot relevance. 1-10 lines)

Also, I will be posting details on the plot next week. So if you feel you want a different character, as long as the spot is not taken, you can try out of it. More information coming soon! Thanks for auditioning

Sorry for the delayed response. I sent you a friend request and I have your audition ready. It will be sent over psn.

I will go into more detail for everyone else next week. But with Ria, I sent her a very detailed script and she sent me the mouths over PSN. They are descriptive enough to not require seeing the cutscene. Since those are being built now, it will be much easier if VA can act from the detailed script.

If we get enough people, we may be able to get some together, just to have smoother transitions between VA.

You can, but the audition comes with mouths.
