Chrono Chrysalis Announcement Trailer

Archive: 288 posts

Hello everyone,

I wanted to say first and foremost I dont care about winning the LBN Contest. That is not our focus, but rather the medium I felt was best to introduce this project. This project is about combining both the JRPG and WRPG genre's into an experience everyone can enjoy in LBP2. A lot of thought, planning and design has gone into the game in all elements. In other words, I am aiming to be Team Picked.. However, it may need some assistance from the community.

I am now accepting voice actors again. I cannot spend a lot of time advertising the game or posting characters because I would probably run out of time,( We got three weeks!) so a lot of the details on the plot and gameplay will be scarce( the actors will be provided with story details however).

If you want to be a part of one of the biggest projects Littlebigplanet will see, feel free to try out. Its entirely for fun, however, I like to be professional with my work. There is some humor, but I still would like spirited voice actors and its open to anyone that is willing to try. Its especially perfect for anyone that wants to show off thier VA skills or want to discover them/practice.

How it works is I hold an audition and that audition determines the character you will voice.

Requirement:

You must be able to act from a detailed script!
Several cutscenes and events are FMV, so I would need the voices first to make sure that they match the action on screen.
This has proven successful and is not hard to do at all.

You must be in it to contribute to the project.
I do not have time to show the game off. You have to be OK with not seeing the fruits of your merits for a couple weeks.

How do I apply?

Just reply to the application

Voice Actors Application
Gender: Male, Female
Voice age: Do you sound like a 16 year old, although you are really 30? Here you just record what age your voice sounds.
Voice Tone: Is it light, average, or deep?
Position seeking: Main Role, Sub Character

(Main Role: Are the main party members that join the team. The requirements are just the willingness to do battle voice overs. Its typically slightly more challenging than voicing a sub character. Typically the star actors of movies

Sub Characters: There are no prerequisites, but there is the option to voice multiple Sub Characters)

After the application is submitted to me here or in private messaging, I will send you an audition which is three mouths for the character I think you will fit. If you pass, then you are on the Voice Actors team

Everyone will be recognized for their contributions and thanks in advance for volunteering.

As far as the games progress, Genesis will serve as an intro to our project. We just dont have enough time to put out the entire first chapter, so we are splitting it into two sub episodes "Genesis" and "Prisoners of Time". Genesis is still a full RPG experience and probably will be one of the largest LBP stages ever data wise. Since we have the memorizer, we wont have the nasty load times like in Sealed Fate. We can spread this out a bit more and even better, all progress will be saved.

Anywho, we are getting there!

In other words, I am aiming to be Team Picked..

If you enter the contest and don't win, you won't be team picked....usually only the winner gets a team pick (and sometimes even the winner doesn't get one)... And you probably won't win the contest, even though your level will probably be superior to the other entries because....
1. it's kinda unfair that you had several years to work on it while other entrants had only a few months
2. I don't think you can publish more than 3 levels and just add a note telling the judges to stop at a certain point...you'd have to publish just the first 3 levels and then publish the rest after the contest is over...

So if you're aiming for just a team pick specifically....I'd suggest not entering the contest. If your level is as good as it sounds, it's practically guaranteed to get one....

If you had any idea how much effort and hours I have invested over the past three months trying to bring this project to fruition, you would realize how unfair that is to Our Project. The old story was completely scrapped, the gameplay was re-designed, and most of the custcenes are still being built. All in a little as three months . Three years means nothing when you go back in and re-create everything. And I know you didnt intend that .

The amount of time this game has been announced puts more pressure on the redesign because people automatically think its been in strong development for that long, when realistically there were periods up to a full year where nothing was worked on, and even those were scrapped due to being outdated.

Thats kinda the point. A lot of it is not built. Anyone on my friends list would vouch how much planning the game was still in. I would upload new interfaces about every week. So a lot of it is new. Genesis was specifically designed for the contest. PoT uses a lot of our older stuff and is still a month or two off, so for me its fair game. If other creators did not make full use of thier three months, thats not my issue. We are all bound by the same restrictions.

Additionally, team picks are never guaranteed. I never published a level, fairly unknown and I know a lot of great levels that never got Team Picked. Its a wild goal, nonetheless having a goal keeps our focus in a good place.

The note to the judges idea was scrapped a while ago. I have gone through great lengths to make sure the project does not get disqualified. Please look forward to future updates!

Alright two weeks to go. First plot details have been posted on the first page as well as all the information I have been going over the past couple weeks. Sorry for the lack of communication for those who are auditioning. School is a pain, but good news is Spring Break starts next week.

A lot of information will be coming the first week in March! Almost there!

Check out my latest blog (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/entry.php?10768-10-Things-to-Know-About-Chrono-Chrysalis-Genesis) for a bit more information on the intro contest entry! I think we will be 90 percent done on Sunday. The cutscenes are the last thing being built, but overall the process is going smoothly.

About one more week to go!

Ok, Voice actors I will be putting you on hold. We got plenty of time after the competition to do voice work. The problem is two of the females I had arent available and one just hasn't logged on. Without them, it just will not work.

However, I will let you guys know if I need any voices. The community seemed pretty split on the idea, so we will see how it works as it is and revisit the topic when the PoT update comes.

Alright guys a couple updates.

Genesis may not be as long as I might have wanted. I would much rather polish a shorter experience than have a longer, unpolished one. As far as play time, I am not sure. Its not four hours, but its not 10 minutes either.

I am kinda adding what I can until Saturday, which is when I should be done.

In other news, guys I dramatically decreased the amount of Memorizers. It was initially going to be around 9 or 10. But now CC will only require 4 Memorizers slots. This was accomplished by using a simple four bit binary system in which I will provide a tutorial on after Genesis releases, just so the inexperienced can build save systems easier.

Additionally the 4 memorizers will accommodate Prisoners of Time(PoT) coming a few weeks after the competition. Again, Prisoners of Time is the core game--kinda what we have been working on the past three years, just the logic was never there, so we got a lot to show after Genesis.

You guys will not really need to worry about the update name. When Prisoners of Time releases, it will be meshed with this intro and will be a single experience. Of course, those who play this intro can begin from where they left off. So again, do not delete your saves!

I will probably reiterate that in the level though. There also wont really be a cliff hanger, but this is a large story, so there will be a lot of questions after Genesis concludes. Be patient, the rest will be coming. I will see you all on Monday

Guys dont panic, but I am not making the deadline. I got hit with some frequent freezes the past week. Since I built most of this in parts, LBP cannot seem to handle it at the moment. It worked fine until a couple days ago. I will have to redesign a view parts and see if it helps.

Nothings is being emitted and causing it to crash, so its probably a memory issue and I am going to have to find some workarounds.

I will make a video of what I have done so far though...unfortunately, we have some decisions to make because LBP2 seems to be more unstable than it was since my first beta...probably will keep getting worse.

Words cannot express the frustration I am experiencing right now...I really am at a loss of words. Right when I see a breakthrough, another challenge just rises up.

Omg man. That must HURT. I've worked with the emit-destroy technique and I must say it's a pain as well. Just try to get through it. It's a shame you can't make the deadline.2014-03-12 14:28:00

Thank you, you and other guys on network have given some encouraging comments. So the problem was, everything worked until the camp menu deletes and It's only one the more complex maps that it crashes. I know how to fix it. Don't worry, we are not going to be disappearing for six months again. I am shooting for an April date now. We can use a beta before releases publically.

I wasn't in the competition to win a ps4 and realistically I'd have a good shot releasing just the opening, but it's not the vision I want and I don't want to separate the episode any further than I already have.

l will not be entering any installments in any forum Competitons from here on.

I really, really hope this turns out. I tried to make an RPG starting in December of 2011. I did a lot of the work as far as planning it all out and setting up the logic and building all the items and spells and whatnot... but it was too much. I couldn't make it all fit properly how I wanted it, when I tried emitting and destroying areas I just crashed the game a lot. So I ditched it. And now I'm really just rooting for you to get this working and playable and fine tuned how you like it because lbp needs it. And it looks like you might just deliver in full.2014-03-14 05:26:00

Sounds awesome! And yea the freezes are a bummer.

I found out the freezes aren't random. They only occur in a particular map that's a bit more complicated. Whenever the camp menu is deleted, there is a chance the game will freeze. I may have to disable rapid camp menu emitting and deletion to solve this.

Because it's tracking and displaying real time stats, it just crashes, maybe? Battles transitions seem to crash the game when occurring on this particular map so I will have to do a bit more experimenting.

So almost working. I will try to test this online since it would be running on Ram and not the hdd

Ok, I had about two weeks off. It was a nice break, but now I will be getting back to work. After some discussion, I will no longer be separating the chapter into two subchapters. So now it will just publish as Chrono Chrysalis.

At this point I think we are all tired of seeing pictures, so I probably wont update this again until its ready to go. I would say, sometime in May is a realistic date. I am adding all the content we created so far, so its roughly three times as long as the contest entry I was creating from scratch. I also rewrote the story to get to the core gameplay faster, but its largely remains the same.

And I will be making several improvements to the gameplay including eliminating random encounters. I want to make in possible to avoid or challenge powerful enemies and give that choice to the player. There is a lot of side stuff to do, but I will detail those a bit later. I am trying to keep the main scenario under three hours. It wasnt until I began testing the game, that I realized its a bit longer due to its gameplay. I'd say cutscenes are roughly 20 percent of the game, although, taking a hint from FF X, the story will always be there.

I have to remain vague now though, more information coming soon.

Small Trailer teaser guys. Now some people may have remember pictures from a while ago and there may be some descrepency as some people want to see swords. To ease those concerns, yes there are a lot of swords and older fantasy style weapons in the game.( View the cover art). This is just some of the future arc of the story without spoiling too much. I think I kinda owe it to people following the game to see what I have been doing the past couple months. No release date, but I will keep you guys updated on anything major.

lol there is quite a bit. I had to start using notes because if I return after a couple days, it was easy to spend an hour trying to remember what logic does what and goes where. Especially the menus.

O man, I was trying to hide the thread lol

As absurd as that comment is, its probably true. I spent probably 80 percent of development on just logic. A lot of that comes from trying to make is smaller so that it will all fit.

Speaking of logic, I got some assistance from Crusher1007. He's very good with logic, in fact its only the second time I have been coached on logic and suprise suprise, in the math category. Its not my favorite subject, but he took the time to explain it to me very thoroughly and if things go well, we will only use one Memorizer, thanks to this guy.

In other news, we are in the stage of running the Alpha. It does use the portion I created for the Sack Competition. Its about 20-30 minutes long. So hopefully we dont run into any issues like freezing. I am pretty confident there wont be any issues with the battle system or mechanics. After that, its just going to be a lot of cinematic work. So we are reaching the part where all of our hard work finally starts coming together.

I wont update this until August, but I am working hard guys. It wont be too much longer. Its my first level, so I will test it and have others test it before I even announce a release date.

-Look forward to future updates in August.

Is there a way I can get in to test the beta when you get around to holding it? I do have a bit of experience in terms of practical critiques and enough technical know how to suggest application of them.2014-07-14 07:34:00

Yes, it will be a closed beta and we could use good feedback. I am very optimistic, in fact, the whole purpose of the beta is to find something wrong and I am used to harsh critiques. I want impressions on everything from the story to the gameplay--especially balancing will the toughest. So that sounds awesome and I will add you to the list for August.

dude, I've been hugely out of the loop but I'm so glad you're still going with this. awesome stuff.

We did a lot of work, so I want the world to see what you guys helped me create. Lots of hours here, even in that small trailer. This project is three years old! Right now, I am focused on getting something out. I think this project can take hints from projects like a Sealed Fate or the Printz diaries release smaller chapters. I think our project was plagued by the shear volume of what we created and putting it together with polish...takes a long time. I think its the games length that is very overwhelming and releasing in smaller installments, especially with LBP3 coming up, will be very interesting and help with the development process.

Imagine an RPG where your saves are relevant for the next couple years! This will also allow us to give VA a break in between chapters, tighten up logic etc. Now there will obviously be another jump with technology, with LBP3, we will probably expand the party to 4 or 5...and lots of cool rpg stuff I want to mess around with since the thermo should be greater. This means we will present the RPG as its built. And when its finished, it will seamlessly resemble a console RPG in terms of length and content since all the chapters are still built into one level. I will go a bit into this design later...that might sound a little confusing, but this was the idea a long time ago.

But yes, we are going to be testing a lot soon. I am still going to be putting a lot of this together while guys test, but we need to get this out in August before I go back to school. Peak into the thread next week, because its about to get more active again.

I am not sure yet. So far, I'd say we easily have over four hours of content without sidequest. I will release the playthrough times of the Beta testers when we reach that stage.

After some talk with my friends and teammates, I decided to move this project to PS4. After all the work I put into this game, I would like it to be enhanced with the dazzling features in LBP3 and presented to a greater audience. I hope for better loads, better graphics and stability. The tools provided in LBP3 will allow me to tell this story the way I want to. Some of the techniques I used here, while cool at its present state, just wont be that impressive in the next entry. Although the years of developing mechanics will pay off as this will be one of the first true RPG experiences on LBP3 and will release very early.

My friends think its something that could challenge a game like Child of Light or Braverly Default. So its going to be good and I love high expectations. The trailer here is really just the tip of the iceburg. Even if it takes a couple entries, I am trying to make this as good as real retail console RPG and having a lot of fun doing it. Its one of my dreams to build an RPG and I am sharing it with the community.

What needs to be done?
I do need to take some time away for school, so I will be in the dark for a while, but I will be developing. Mostly finishing up the save system. Its going to use one Memorizer. Its complex, and without you logic gurus, it wouldnt be possible. ( I will get into the mechanics and story soon). I have a few more abilities to place. And about...three more bosses and a couple monsters to do stats for. So its easy work really from this point or in other words, the fun stuff. I plan to release within the first two months of LBP3's release. There wont be that much to do other than repainting and extruding layers. Probably some minor improvements on the animations.

Details from the Alpha:
Yup, we did run an alpha and heres what I think. Honestly, the game in its current state will still have random freezes in LBP2. Its just a lot processing at once and will create memory issues. I believe Sealed Fate had freezes similar to this and it will be recommended to fresh reboot before playing. I will allow multiple saves akin to memory cards and recommend saving often in the LBP2 version, which will be different than the LBP3 version as far as features and presentation. Both platforms will have the same release date.

I will be updating when LBP3 is releases. Thank you for all the support! It will be here before you know it.

I will see you all then.

Important: There will still be a LBP2 version( I actually might do something cool with this), but I will be continuing this thread in the LBP3 section once I reach that point.

There are five chapters. I've written a lot of the story already. There wont be any demos. Just the full game. Your saves will carry over to the next chapter and hopefully by the end of Chapter five, we will have a full length RPG 40+hour RPG that blends seamlessly.2014-08-19 19:01:00

Well, you've caught my attention with this. It definitely looks like something I would play, and I never would've considered that someone would be able to create a saving system in LBP. Good to see that there will still be a LBP 2 version. I was worried!

Yea, the only thing that will change is mainly the graphics and it may be a bit harder. I built this RPG knowing there might be a LBP3, so I cut if off at a good spot. With the PS4, I can introduce larger mobs and more boss battles will be a bit more tactical--thats going to be the main difference. The battle system and exploration will be more dynamic. The story will be same, just beefed up cutscenes. I figured by the time chapter 2 rolls around, a lot more people will have LBP3.

The tricky part will be trying to convert LBP2 saves to the next chapter. I dont know if Memorizer data transfers to LBP3...I am assuming it does? I suppose we got a while to figure that out though.

Its not that hard once the memorizer was introduced. I had some amazing contributions during the life cycle of this. The project would not be the same without some help from the community. Thanks for your anticipation
