BTBAM and Mastodon are amazing! (as you could tell by my avatar I like Mastodon ALOT). | 2010-07-09 09:03:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |
Yes! Yes they are And yes. I could indeed tell by your avatar. (Amazing album ) | 2010-07-09 09:45:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
LOL guys, can you guys explain to me why I always read the same names of bands, and every band that are really new. No one that mentions death metal ever speaks about Death, Pestilence, Deicide, Monstrosity, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Carcass, just to name a few... | 2010-07-09 10:00:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Get off my lawn you kids! Back in my day we had real death metal! .............. | 2010-07-09 10:12:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
.............. Yeah and no, actually. I love new bands, I'm not one that lives in the past, but it would be cool if people would even listen to other stuff, to listen to the roots of a genre. When I was a kid there was the Norse Black Metal, and I was curious not only to hear Enslaved, Burzum, Darkthrone, but even Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory...stuff that was released even 10 years before but was connected to what I was liking at the time. | 2010-07-09 12:17:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

No one that mentions death metal ever speaks about Death, Pestilence, Deicide, Monstrosity, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Carcass, just to name a few... lol It's actually really funny how unoriginal really new bands are nowadays Though most of the bands in my list have been together for I'd say at least five years. I've heard of Death and they are great, but none of those other bands sound familiar to me, I'll have to check them out Also, did you not see Cannibal Corpse? They've been around for over twenty years. P.S. I'm only 18, so I wasn't exactly around when death metal was in its early days But, you do make a good point about listening to the roots of the genre, so I shall do some research/listening this weekend | 2010-07-09 15:50:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
Death, Pestilence, Deicide, Monstrosity, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Carcass Now I love metal as much as the next guy, but these names do make me lol. I have to say though, I like all types of metal apart from the show-off forms of thrash and stuff live ffdp. | 2010-07-09 17:06:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |
I stayed up all night listening to Jeff Loomis sweep on youtube, Does that count? Also, you should check out As I lay Dying, just got their new album out back in may and it's amazing! | 2010-07-09 17:18:00 Author: SupaSack34 Posts: 180 |
Now I love metal as much as the next guy, but these names do make me lol. I have to say though, I like all types of metal apart from the show-off forms of thrash and stuff live ffdp. lol I know what you mean, but that's nothing: Cattle Decapitation, Slaughterbox, Braindrill, A**l C**t (lol right? I'm afraid I can't say the real name on here, so it's up to your imagination ) just to name a few... I like all types of metal except for probably Grindcore, Power Metal, and most 80's Hair Metal (I do not like falsetto singing loll) I stayed up all night listening to Jeff Loomis sweep on youtube, Does that count? Also, you should check out As I lay Dying, just got their new album out back in may and it's amazing! If I might ask, who is Jeff Loomis? As I lay Dying is pretty good. I haven't heard their new album though, I'll have to check it out *edit I looked up Jeff Loomis and he is an amazing guitarist! Sounds a hell of a lot like Arch Enemy though... just saying | 2010-07-09 19:19:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
Metallica all the way! I also like Primal Fear and Iron Maiden. Mastodon is also awesome! | 2010-07-09 19:48:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
A**l C**t (lol right? I'm afraid I can't say the real name on here, so it's up to your imagination ) I've heard of **** ****, but I haven't heard them, if that makes sense. Personally I have really low expectations, I hate it when band choose a name just to shock (Unless of course you're talking about ******* ** ***** ** * ****. They own). | 2010-07-09 19:58:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |

Personally I have really low expectations, I hate it when band choose a name just to shock (Unless of course you're talking about ******* ** ***** ** * ****. They own). Yeah I know what you mean lol lol It's pretty much exactly that. They are horrible XD I would consider A*** C*** to be Grindcore and I hate Grindcore so... lol I honestly have no idea who you are referring to XD Care to PM me with the actual name? | 2010-07-09 22:28:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
I love Iron maiden!!! | 2010-07-09 22:34:00 Author: Jonaolst Posts: 935 |
I honestly have no idea who you are referring to XD Care to PM me with the actual name? It was a joke... Surely you know that no one letter words are censored on this forum. :L But yeah, I just hate the metal where the guitars have so much gain piled on it sounds like they're dragging something through mud. | 2010-07-09 22:41:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |
Yes! Yes they are And yes. I could indeed tell by your avatar. (Amazing album ) That is actually my favorite album of theirs, except Blood Mountain is a really really really great album, I change my mind, Blood Mountain is better =/. In under a few months I got all of their full albums. I'm getting Call of the Mastodon this weekend just to hear what their old singer sounded like (actually, I think he did vocals for Workhorse off of Remission) Also, I heard Celtic Frost, toooooooooooo depressing for me. | 2010-07-09 23:33:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |
Ive heard Alice in chains referred to as metal before, if that counts. I love them, as well as metallica, but none of those other ones lol. | 2010-07-09 23:49:00 Author: Jrange378 Posts: 573 |

Surely you know that no one letter words are censored on this forum. :L But yeah, I just hate the metal where the guitars have so much gain piled on it sounds like they're dragging something through mud. lol *facepalm* I didn't think of that What you don't like drop G tuning? lol I love the sound of Drop B tuning with a decent amount of gain, but there is definitely a such thing as overdoing it. That is actually my favorite album of theirs, except Blood Mountain is a really really really great album, I change my mind, Blood Mountain is better =/. In under a few months I got all of their full albums. I'm getting Call of the Mastodon this weekend just to hear what their old singer sounded like (actually, I think he did vocals for Workhorse off of Remission) I have Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and Crack the Skye, of which Crack the Skye is my favorite because it's freakin amazing Also, I heard Celtic Frost, toooooooooooo depressing for me. Well, that's black metal for you, depressing. lol I thought they were pretty cool for the most part. | 2010-07-10 00:19:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
Ive heard Alice in chains referred to as metal before, if that counts. I love them, as well as metallica, but none of those other ones lol. You could consider a lot of their songs metal, but I would say they are Hard Rock. But Metallica is for sure metal (it's in their name darnit lol) and they have influenced a lot of today's metal bands. lol Not many people like death metal, it's okay if you don't. Sorry for the double post... | 2010-07-10 00:23:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
i Hate Metal Give Me Wood (System of a down FTW) | 2010-07-10 00:24:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'd have to say that I love Metal. I've always had a fondness for aggressive music. As I mentioned in another thread, I tend to go for the more experimental stuff like Cynic and Atheist. I've also been known to dabble in the newer stuff like Genghis Tron, iwrestledabearonce, Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon, The Faceless, etc. I used to be hardcore into brutal death metal like Cannibal Corpse and Necrophagist, but I've kinda had a falling out recently with the guitar ****ery style of death metal. Death metal/jazz fusion FTW. I'm almost ashamed to say this, but I'm rather nostalgically fond of some nu-metal. It's like a guilty pleasure for me o_O. | 2010-07-10 00:52:00 Author: Malahk Angel Posts: 59 |
Ive heard Alice in chains referred to as metal before, if that counts. I love them, as well as metallica, but none of those other ones lol. Alice in Chains is freaking awesome. Would? and Them Bones are favorite (and Rooster). @Malahk: KoRn and SlipKnot are my favorite nu-metal bands. | 2010-07-10 00:54:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |
I don't like metal too much, I'm much more of a fan of Screamo or "Post-Hardcore", as butthurts like to say. Alesana, We Came As Romans, Escape The Fate (Post and Pre-TWIO) and Silverstein are some of my favorites. But hey, we're all one hardcore family, right? | 2010-07-10 01:37:00 Author: Voltergeist Posts: 1702 |
i Hate Metal Give Me Wood I'm a little afraid to comment on this XD (System of a down FTW) I love System of a Down! They're one of my favorite bands ever and I really hope they get back together because Serj's solo stuff is just weird lol I'd have to say that I love Metal. It's great to hear how many people on this forum love metal!!! I love BTBAM, Mastodon, and The Faceless, but I have to say iwrestledabearonce is very, very annoying to me along with other bands in that Grindcore genre (no offense, but bands like that are why people think metal is just a bunch of noise). I love Cannibal Corpse! From what I've heard, Necrophagist is also amazing. Nile is pretty sick too if you haven't heard of them. Death metal/jazz fusion sounds pretty *******ing awesome I'm not a big fan of Nu-Metal and I'm actually not too sure what bands exactly fit into this category beyond Disturbed, Slipknot, and Korn. @Malahk: KoRn and SlipKnot are my favorite nu-metal bands. I used to be a really big fan of KoRn and Slipknot and I still like their old stuff, but I really don't like new stuff from either of the two... Slipknot used to actually be heavy, but now Corey is trying to make them sound like Stonesour or something, darnit Corey, keep the bands separate!!! I don't like Screamo in the least bit just because I hate the vocal style, although I can respect bands that are talented, which a lot of the Screamo bands are. Like I said, I just hate the vocal style. Yep. Welcome to the family | 2010-07-10 04:01:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |

but I have to say iwrestledabearonce is very, very annoying to me along with other bands in that Grindcore genre (no offense, but bands like that are why people think metal is just a bunch of noise). I just have a lot of respect for them because of their lead singer. She makes Otep Shamaya look like an pop star. Plus, they have a great sense of humor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gRMfJYTYhA Even if you're not fond of the music, you gotta admit, that video is a riot. | 2010-07-10 06:26:00 Author: Malahk Angel Posts: 59 |

Yeah she is pretty brutal lol I checked out the video - it was pretty hilarious at parts XD Also, there are parts of some of their songs that I enjoy, but for the most part and when they do sweeps/mash ups of sounds that don't go well together it turns me away from it :/ I love Hannah Montanna! What album of Celtic Frost did you hear, Zombie? Since I see that most of you is fond of Death Metal or something like that, I would really suggest Hypocrisy, for some old school/alien swedish death metal, then Gorod for the ones who like jazzish stuff, and Decrepit Birth and Obscura for people who likes technique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIuct23JLLE | 2010-07-10 07:23:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

I'll look up more of their stuff later. Any particular song/album you have in mind to recommend? Wow! Thanks for recommending Hypocrisy to me and posting the song, I will definitely have to hear more of their stuff because that was awesome! I'll check out the other bands at a later time. | 2010-07-10 07:57:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
Hypocrisy is a real particular band, that blends lots of different things in the sound, mostly of all I like their ability to sound apocalyptic. Check songs like Roswell 47, Apocalypse, Warpath, Fractured Millennium, Fire In The Sky, Eraser, Scrutinized, Self Inflicted Overload, Buried, Left To Rot, Destroyed, Tamed (Filled With Fear), just to name some. I also incourage you to search for Carcass, and listen at least to Incarnated Solvent Abuse and Corporal Jigsore Quandary. I give you this as a bonus... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X91e3HBrQxw | 2010-07-10 09:10:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
That was actually quite good. I wasn't expecting to enjoy 'old school/alien swedish death metal,' but it sounded great! :L | 2010-07-10 11:19:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |

Hey LBPC. I *******ing love metal - especially death metal, and I wanted to know who else here shares my passion. Some of my favorite bands (in no particular order) are: Job For a Cowboy... I saw job for a cowboy when I went to see Megadeth at rock city in nottingham, they weren't very good live at all. Also mastodon m/ Someone mentioned carcass? Hells yeah. Also, I know littlewit is a bit of a metalhead too, was chatting to him last night on LBP about bands and guitarists. Also, I love the tv show metalocalypse, the music is great. | 2010-07-10 15:41:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

i'll listen to metal to an extent. i love most of the guitar playing on any metal genre, but sometimes i'll drift away when the vocals get too heavy. mainly, i listen to Metal-core. | 2010-07-10 16:21:00 Author: manny_wtk Posts: 127 |

Metalhead here! http://xd1.xanga.com/deff7563c6132258896360/t206121976.gif Most of my stuff is European. I like the higher production value and how far metal goes in mixing different elements. Big fan of Melodic Black Metal! | 2010-07-10 17:06:00 Author: Iudicium_86 Posts: 167 |

The record is brutal! | 2010-07-10 17:56:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

What I dislike though, is how 'teenager' some metal has become. Particularly the 'scene' and 'hardcore' crowd. Y'know the stuff, no solos, bottom note beatdowns or originality and lots of stupid floppy hair. Oh and the ridiculous "dancing". This is not the way. Metal should not be about fashion either. Just whack on a band t-shirt and some dirty jeans, grow your hair long and have a good time! Also, I really like this video. Obviously we all know the difference between different types of metal and how they came about, but it's still nice to see them all juxtaposed like this ; http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1936181 EDIT : Also, hahahahaha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njwGpdXUFV8 | 2010-07-10 18:59:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
I give you this as a bonus... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X91e3HBrQxw Thank you for providing a steady stream of good metal I saw job for a cowboy when I went to see Megadeth at rock city in nottingham, they weren't very good live at all. Also mastodon m/ Someone mentioned carcass? Hells yeah. Also, I know littlewit is a bit of a metalhead too, was chatting to him last night on LBP about bands and guitarists. Also, I love the tv show metalocalypse, the music is great. Yeah my friend Anthony went to that show and he said the same about JFAC. I know they aren't good live, but I love their studio stuff. Yay for Mastodon m/ I love Mastodon. Well tell littlewit to get over to this thread and talk about metal lol Dethklok is awesome! I love the song Birthday Dethday! Probably my favorite song by them. *posts amazingly awesome metal you should listen to My friend showed me Gojira a while ago and they are *******ing amazing! And Between the Buried and Me is one of my favorite bands ever (as you already know). I've never heard of Mutiny Within, but what you posted was pretty cool. Metalhead here! http://xd1.xanga.com/deff7563c6132258896360/t206121976.gif Most of my stuff is European. I like the higher production value and how far metal goes in mixing different elements. Big fan of Melodic Black Metal! Great! You will feel very welcome to this thread then m/ Melodic Black Metal is sick as *******! | 2010-07-10 21:04:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
No offense to anyone, but Screamo is just stupid. Hardcore 'dancing' is at least funny to watch XD Lol when metal was in it's earlier days in the 80's it was all about fashion XD I hate hair-metal :/ Lol at both videos XD the first one was pretty sick and the second was just funny | 2010-07-10 21:09:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |

*Mixes terms, talks nonsense*...No offense to anyone, but Screamo is just stupid. /Takes offence, presses no-longer-existing negative rep button/ Would you kindly explain your position and how (most likely without any actual experience listening), you arrived there? Screamo is an incredible genre if you do some listening. I can understand if it's not your thing, but calling it out as stupid is ridiculous. Screamo is the only genre that carries emotion anymore. Take The Emptiness for example - I'd like to see that kind of story told in any other genre of music. I try not to denounce metal as 'noise', but it usually is a monotone of screaming*, which instantly limits what you can say with it without sounding like an idiot. Screamo also can show other emotions than "KILL KILL KILL". Again, The Emptiness. A whirlwind trip that takes you through depression, anger, joy, and finally bat-sh*t insanity. All in 11 tracks of pure awesome. Again, there are big differences between disliking a genre and calling it names. Maturity is one of them. *I'm talking about Thrash metal, which seems to be more popular than other forms. It's annoying, and I have given it try. | 2010-07-10 21:49:00 Author: Voltergeist Posts: 1702 |

First of all, I apologize for offending you I do have experience listening to Screamo as my brother listens to it heavily. My dislike is caused by the vocal style, which to me sounds like whining 90% of the time, which I find unenjoyable. I'm sure there are great Screamo bands out there and possibly I've only heard bad ones? Would you care to recommend some good screamo bands? I do respect Screamo as a genre and I apologize for calling it names as opposed to just expressing my dislike of the genre. But saying Screamo is the only genre that has emotion anymore? Metal evokes anger, which is an emotion :/ Just because it doesn't evoke sad emotions or joy doesn't mean it has no emotion at all. I respect your dislike of Thrash Metal and I thank you for giving it a try. I am willing to give Screamo a try if you recommend some good bands to me Once again, I am sorry for offending you and I realize I was being childish for calling it stupid. | 2010-07-10 22:02:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |

Thanks for what you wrote Zombie. In part I get frustrated because I used to sound a lot like you too, I thought screamo was garbage. I gave it a try eventually, and now hope more people do as well. What I dislike about some metal, is when there aren't any riffs in the songs. Just doing super detuned drop C open power chords isn't a riff. All they are doing is taking advantage of the aesthetics of a low chug and using it in favour of competent song writing. I'm not gonna' name any bands but I think you guys know the sorta' stuff i'm on about anyway. | 2010-07-10 22:17:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

I can play only the first 20 seconds of scarified... After that, nah. :L The drum intro then? LOL I guess you're stucked in the first arpeggio and the legato section, that is quite brutal, since Paul stretches his fingers like nothing, the quick 10-14/10-15 on the E string are quite hard but doable with some exercise. Much worse is the intro of Colorado Bulldog that is giving me white hair, awkard stretches and picking, brutal speed. I studied Paul Gilbert's guitar methods and he's sick when he teaches to pick in the most weird unnatural ways, always picking stronger the first note of each triplet or quadruplet, even upstroke. Mental stuff. Also, I think many of you could like this song from Finnish band Mors Pricipium Est (that means Death Is Only The Beginning). I actually prefer them to Children Of Bodom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMSNgKMBqdc I also suggest to hear their song Animal Within, that has a techno dub flavour, but if you listen to it at max volume you tear the house down | 2010-07-12 06:35:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

The **** are those? Breakdowns are ****ing ***. At least solos can be impressive. Going in half-time and calling it something else is not impressive. Alright, i'm sensing some differences in definitions here. I'll explain what I call them. Beatdowns : Bottom note chugging pattern, sometimes accentuated with random dischords thrown in for giggles. These are only used in every 'hardcore' song ever and usually make floppy haired slightly overweight 14 year olds in skinny jeans dance stupidly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nd7s4ZtggU&feature=related Skip to 46 seconds to see what I mean. Breakdowns : A break is an instrumental or percussion section or interlude during a song derived from or related to stop-time – being a "break" from the main parts of the song or piece. (copied from wiki) So there is a difference, one is a normal technique in all levels of song composition and the other is for lame-o's that play in drop A flat | 2010-07-12 14:08:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

m/ Five Finger Death Punch m/ I don't want to get into a mini flame war about this, but FFDP are really beyond bad - I'll take 'Never enough' as an example: i'm so fed up with everyone around me No one seems to care I'm just so far gone that nothing's gonna change I'll never be the same It's always do this do that everything they want to I don't want to live that way (no!) Every chance they get they're always Pushing me away I can write better lyrics than that, they're angsty teenager band lyrics at their finest. The 'riffs' are just powerchords. Apart from the chorus, they don't actually go above the 5th fret on the high E - And even that's the only note in the song that's on the high E string! I downloaded a GP file of the song and had a look at the rhythm guitar track, and it was literally the same four chords, the same rhythm, for 60 bars. That's like, the first two minutes of a 3 and a half minute long song. Also, look at them! I lol'd when I first saw them. :L http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff145/zerorider666/BAND/FFDP.jpg Oh, and sorry for bringing up an old post, but I had to when I read it. | 2010-07-12 14:43:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |

I think that this is a song everyone should know, since it's 100% awesomeness. It's SATYRICON - Mother North, one of the song that better represents the TRVE Norwegian Black Metal. I'll post here a cut version of a live where the song sounds BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG as a big fat epic monster. The original video is quite explicit and many will find it disturbing and/or offensive. A LOT. So, it's up to you search it or not. Frost is a beast of a drummer, the song is EEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCC CCCCCCCC and well, JONNA NIKULA, the keyboard player, well, yeah... OP loses respect for classing Sum 41 as metal. I didn't classify them as metal, someone suggested the band so I added them to the suggested bands list. ....but I suppose this is a thread for metal, so I'll take 'em off. I in no way find Sum 41 metal. EDIT: Okay I took them off the list, sorry about that. I'll only add suggested bands if they're actually metal. P.S. I updated the list with Satyricon and gave the link to the video. | 2010-07-14 04:05:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |

No worries lol. I can't be bothered checking because my internet is being so slow it would take me 5 minutes just to go to page 1, are A7X on the list? Their new single is awesome. Their new single sucks. I suppose the guitars aren't too bad but Shadows' singing drags it down. They should never have dropped the screaming, and they certainly should never have adopted the irritating nasal voice. Their first two albums were brilliant though. | 2010-07-16 13:13:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |

They should never have dropped the screaming, and they certainly should never have adopted the irritating nasal voice. Their first two albums were brilliant though. I agree. The new single irritates me beyond belief. And it doesn't help that the radio plays it five times (or more) a day... Yeah, the vocals definitely bring it down. If it weren't for that, I would love it. @IGotFancyPants: lol Either way it is *******ing amazing. | 2010-07-16 21:45:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |

Speaking of funny pronunciations of words, I think Tommy from BTBAM says almost every vowel with a 'w' in front of it. In obfuscation, he says 'A Brain Malfunction' but I always thought it was 'Wave Brain Malfunction'. He basically screams WAY BRAIN MALFUNCTIONNNN! I think it's pretty hilarious. Also, in Alaska, he says WWWWAAAALASKA! WALASKA!! He's obviously amazing, however. Their new single sucks. I suppose the guitars aren't too bad but Shadows' singing drags it down. They should never have dropped the screaming, and they certainly should never have adopted the irritating nasal voice. Their first two albums were brilliant though. I've already disagreed with you about this once today, but i'm gonna do it again. The 'screaming' on STST was poor. The guitars were ok, the drums were good. But it was very generic metalcore. WTF was ok, but the screams didn't dominate the vocals, and it mixed well with the clean vocals. Matt said he was going wanted to get rid of the screaming altogether by their third album, and he did. CoE is their best to date, by far. ST was ok, but a little to 'poppy' in areas for my taste, though ALPOH was awesome, as was Brompton Cocktail. Still not a bad album. The first single, Nightmare, is another evolution in terms of the music. The verse and chorus guitar is pretty simple, but it is more groove-oriented than their other stuff, kinda like Scream was. The guitar harmonies in the intro, and before solo 1 have an eerie sound, but are undeniably A7X. The vocals are more powerful than they have been on any other song they have done, Matt almost sounds like Hetfield at some points, which is hardly a bad thing. And the solo is awesome. Buried Alive on the other hand, is slower, but no less 'metal' Think of it as A7X's 'Unforigven'. It's slower, but still with it's heavy bits, and another awesome solo. Again, Matt's vocals are as they need to be for the song, and it is much better than if it was all screamed. For the record, there are some harsher vocals that near screams towards the end, and it is a theme that (apparently) recurs throughout the album on other songs. And 'God Hates Us' is full screaming. This album is shaping up to be a return to their older style, but with more refinement. Metal doesn't require screaming. Edit: I did lol when I first heard it though, the way he pronounces that certain unmentionable word is just hilarious. If you mean where he says 'your ****ing nightmare' i don't see what your problem is? He puts emphasis on the start of the word, that's nothing unusual. | 2010-07-17 20:42:00 Author: Unknown User |

Edit: If you mean where he says 'your ****ing nightmare' i don't see what your problem is? He puts emphasis on the start of the word, that's nothing unusual. I'll admit the screaming on STST wasn't great, but it was far better than the nasal voice he used so much on ST. CoE was good, but some of the songs dragged it down, like Burn it Down and The Wicked End. WTF though, was one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. The screams were so much better than on STST, and the singing just blended so well. Then the guitar solos... It was Syn's first album with them so understandably some of the solos were INSANE (Namely IWSYT Pt. 2). ST has one or two good songs, ALPOH was fantastic, and Brompton Cocktail and Critical Acclaim were also good. And I hate to say it, but I really like Dear God. But the rest of the songs are just awful. However, with talks (Admittedly they were comments on YouTube videos) that the screaming was returning, I was excited for Nightmare, but when I heard it I was underwhelmed to say the least. The intro is irritating, the lyrics are laughable and the solo... Well, I'll admit the solo isn't bad. But after I heard that I decided I didn't want to hear the rest so I broke my computer by throwing it out of a window (True). I was a HUGE A7X fan, I've learnt pretty much everything of WTF and CoE apart from a few solos and bad songs. The moment Syn's live solo was dubbed 'Unwind the Chainsaw' and every troll on YouTube started claiming it was the single for their new album, so I wet myself with excitement, figuratively speaking, and learnt it right away... Unfortunately, it was to be the last A7X song I learnt before The Rev passed away. That drum solo is amazing though. I admit that metal doesn't need screaming, just look at bands like Maiden and Metallica. But if you can scream like Shadows, why waste it, especially as it makes their songs sound so much better. Still, with this album I've given up hopes of them returning to WTF. I'll maybe try a different genre. Blues Rock, anyone? I'm sorry for the wall of text, I really am. But you have to fight fire with fire. Oh, and I just find it comical the way he says 'foo.' | 2010-07-17 23:54:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |
I won't ever say anything about A7X... I first heard of them on the Burnout soundtrack. There was The Beast And The Harlot, and when I heard it the first time I thought, oh, cool, completely unexpected, the beginning is simply but straightforward, and the first singed part reminded me of some 80-ish hair metal on steroids, so I liked it, then the chorus arrived and the world crumbled...really: Was it a joke or what? It seemed an anime jingle, completely out of concept, completely silly. The band has potential, but those things are too silly that I won't take the time to listen to another of their songs again. I really prefer Pub Party Metal to that stuff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giuCzHN7cj0 | 2010-07-18 07:17:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

Hey guys! I watched BTBAM here in Toronto yesterday and they were amazing! (obviously) Their set was only 45 minutes but they played: Foam Born Part B (from Colors) Obfuscation (from The Great Misdirect) Disease, Injury, Madness (from The Great Misdirect) White Walls (from Colors) It was so epic! Me and the drummer of my band even got to meet up with Dustie and Blake afterwards and took some pictures and had some neat discussions. But you have to fight fire with fire. Oh, and I just find it comical the way he says 'foo.' When they say scremaing is returing for Nightmare, they mean the album, not nescessarily the song. As i said, 'God hates Us' is all screamed. And i don't see your point about him having a 'nasal' voice. Sure, at points he does, slower, quiter bits, but most of the time he doesn't. He has a strong voice for singing, and there is no point him ruining his voice by screming (which, by the way, is part of the reason they got rid of it, as it was damaging his voice). You appear to be jumping on the bandwagon, so to speak. I'm quite active on Ultimate-Guitar, and the A7X thread over there has been full of people who claim they are big fans of the first albums but now they hate his 'nasal' voice. Accept the fact that they have changed, and for the better. ST could have been a better album, admittedly, but they tried some stuff out on that album, while Nightmare seems to be much more of a return to their older stuff, a mix of WTF and CoE. Burn It Down and The Wicked End are good songs, maybe not as good as the others on the album, but they are by no means bad songs. As for the lyrics in Nightmare, they aren't far away from the lyrics in their other albums, so again, i don't see your point. You should probably give the songs a chance, rather than dismissing them due to a lack of screaming. I guess BFMV aren't metal either, now that their new album is far more clean vocals than screams? I listen to a lot of metal with screams and enjoy it, it's far and away my favourite genre. BTBAM, ATR, AILD, CoB, In Flames are all great bands and they all scream. But A7X, BFMV, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Firewind are also great bands who don't scream, it doesn't make them any less of a metal band. | 2010-07-18 15:29:00 Author: Unknown User |

An example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBxMLGhnpCw) of his nasal voice at 1:00, the bit after that is sung really well though IMO. Also, the audio on YouTube videos of the album leak has either been removed or my computer is broken (Which I doubt because all the other videos are working, including the ones that play Remenissions but are entitled God Hates Us), and you can't preview songs on iTunes, so unfortunately I can't listen to any songs other than Nightmare, unless you can provide me with an alternative source. :/ You say that they have changed for the better, but then you say Nightmare is returning to their older stuff? This confuzzles me, explain please? I'll have a look at the A7X thread on Ultimate-Guitar, I used to go there regularly but now I only go to get tabs. I can assure you though that I am not jumping on the bandwagon, I genuinely don't like their new stuff. I respect that they have to evolve, but personally, I don't like the direction they are taking. Also, when did I say that it had to have screaming in to be metal? In fact, I actually said 'I admit that metal doesn't need screaming, just look at bands like Maiden and Metallica.' Yet you seem to think that I simply hate everything that doesn't have screaming. Tbh, I listen to all the bands you listed that don't scream, and I don't really listen to the ones you said scream. I'm not saying that everyone that doesn't like 'screamy metal' should be shot, I like most music, I just much prefer M Shadows' screaming to his singing... Also, I'd like to point out that this isn't anything personal, I don't have any particular problems with you, I just get really irritated when it comes to music. | 2010-07-18 16:20:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |

At the end of the day, i really like his clean voice, you don't. i love almost all their stuff, you don't... Doesn't really matter. As for the leaks, none of them were the actual songs, the only two you can hear are Nightmare and Buried Alive. As for me contradicting myself, i meant that while they are returing to a heavier style, with some screaming, which harks back to their older work, they have advanced with their style, so they are changing, and at the same time returning to their older stuff, almost like they are trying to fashion their own unique style. Let's leave it at that, if you wanna continue, pm me. I'll have fun watching A7X with Stone Sour at Birmingham and Manchester in October, it's all good. And yeah, i get annoyed arguing about music. no worries. Edit: For anyone interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ldcCq3hzq0 Note: The bug eyes from the bat Country video, Zacky dancing with a skeleton rather than his girlfriend (from the Afterlife video?) and somewhat chillingly, the trantula's that crawled over jimmy in the Afterlife video are now crawling over a broken drumkit. And the ending made me sad D: | 2010-07-18 19:50:00 Author: Unknown User |
@Asbestos Pantera aren't trash. Just thought I'd be irritating. Agree with this. Now debate time, after i saw a massive argument about it on Youtube. Are Trivium Thrash metal or metalcore? I thought it was kinda a mix but meh... what is the opinion of this here thread? And i still think ascendancy is the definitive metalcore album. | 2010-07-19 13:50:00 Author: Unknown User |
I would say that they're both, but leaning more heavily towards metalcore. | 2010-07-19 16:34:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |
To be fair i can't say i particularly like sub-genres in some ways. As a way of separating bands of different styles it's fine, however when people start saying 'metalcore isn't real metal' etc. etc. then it's kinda silly. I use metalcore in that example because, to be honest, that's waht i see people saying quite a lot. It's a different kind of metal sure, but it's still metal... /mini-rant So. Rise To Remain anybody? Bruce Dickinson's (Iron maiden for any poor fools who didn't know) son is the singer. I saw them support Trivium in Manchester, and they have a debut album out soon. I got the EP ages ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4a4RgcBEao Bridges Will Burn FTW. | 2010-07-19 16:51:00 Author: Unknown User |

Only for the really open minded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBecE7-y9EY&feature=related They're definately one of my favorites. Good to see they've strayed from that "French Aristocratic" vibe they had before in favour of their native Norse culture. The back-up vocals are kind of neat too, like what Sigh did on Gallows Gallery. I don't have this album yet, so off I go! | 2011-02-16 17:29:00 Author: Unknown User |

Oh and I'm going to go to Anthrax, megadeth, slayer and metallica (A.K.A The Big 4) concert this summer. Anyone else going to see them live too? The only one I haven't seen is Anthrax, but I've never cared for them. Megadeath made the mistake of coming on stage shouting "Hello England!" - when they were in Scotland and the crowd never forgave them - so it wasn;t the best of gigs. When I saw Metallica, they were being supported by a little known band called Pantera - who absolutely blew them off the stage - they were weak lightweights by comparison. Slayer however, were awesome - no complaints So, no. I'd rather stick with my (un)happy memories, rather than have them replaced by newer (un)happy memories (they've also all gone right downhill since I saw them back in the day). | 2011-03-10 17:12:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |

AAAAA YE, Symphonic Metal is where it is for me. Whether it be SYmphonic Opera Metal or Symphonic Black Metal or some other form of symphonic metal, its all amazing. Bands I reccommend! -Nightwish -Epica -Sirenia All voiced by some rockin ladies and some seriously gutteral skilled guys. Nightwish is by far my favorite- Pre-annette, of course, back when Tarja was still around. I am both glad and upset they put a nightwish song in LBP. All the twelve year olds are like NITEWISH YEEEE!!! when if they heard any of Tarja's singing they would likely be turned off. Why? Because Tarja's voice is the sound angels make when they cry. But enough! Now we get to the good parts! I am posting from a PS3 so its gonna be hard to put youtube links in BBcode since I dont know that particular code off the top of my head so just follow some links for a sampling of my favorites from each of those bands: SIRENIA: The Other Side- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njPWBTIv9qw Sister Nightfall- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy7VWVD7zvU Sirenian Shores- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwoeKyqdNyg EPICA: Semblance of Liberty- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPKiBe6oNj0 Burn To a Cinder- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqIEGDdrnfo Quietus- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3FELocOtu0 and finally... Don't dislike Sirenia, but I really preferred when Morten Veland was with Tristania. I really dig After Forever in that style. If you really like some good vocals you should try Borknagar with Simen on vocals, or ICS Vortex like many knows him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rEYotzsAl0 or with Vintersorg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7E9aEB7w30 | 2011-04-26 08:01:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

I didn't imagine all this love for Arch Enemy from your side. I liked them most "MUSICALLY" when johan Liiva was still in the band. I guess it's the "Carcass" flavour that you like more. I heard the new song and it's well...nice but Chris didn't surprised me at all with his solo there. Personally I'm really waiting for the new Morbid Angel's record "Illud Divinum Insanus" http://www.metal-archives.com/images/3/0/2/9/302987.jpg I'm really looking forward to see what Thor Anders Myhren AKA Destruchtor will do and what he added to the songwriting since I always loved his Myrkskog and Zyklon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpv-5kKzd9A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEioLZeSXrM Btw... www.metal-archives.com has finally gone into the long waited V2 from some days now. I'm a nut when it comes to harmonized melodies. A lot of the music I write is similar in style, which is kind of ironic because I spent a number of years not into them very much (was still too hung up on Dream Theater/SymX). I don't have the free time anymore to pull Petrucci out of my *** at will, so I'm focusing more on songwriting and less on technical prowess. But yeah, I guess it does stem from Carcass' stuff... especially Heartwork. There's a bit of Black Dahlia Murder, Opeth, and Dethklok in there too. Oh yeah, and I snagged this from Chris last year: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33902&d=1304995117 My very own PoD... his thumb wore off most of his sig on the back, but I think he played the whole show with it. | 2011-05-10 03:11:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |
I'm a nut when it comes to harmonized melodies. Guess that's the reason you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO love DragonForce Yeah I'm a nut too, I always write totally different patterns for both guitars and I still am happy like a baby everytime I hear "Caught Somewhere In Time". I'm starting to write again...no boundaries...have some nice riff again, and harmonies and notes in upbeat are the essence I have only one pick...YNGWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE EE's!!! LOL | 2011-05-10 06:40:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Dragonforce... hahahaha. If it weren't for duping 13 year old boys into thinking they could actually play their own music, I'm not sure they'd have ever gotten famous. Yngwie is a ******. I watched him write "Play Fender" in sliver sharpie on the back of some kid's JEM10th at G3. I'd have punched him in the face if it were me. | 2011-05-10 07:27:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |

In Flames released a single for their upcoming album a few days ago (album will be released in June/July if I remember right). Jesper is the soul of In Flames, without him they're meh... Anyway I read that the single is their weakest song EVER. I'm enjoying the latest album by Septic Flesh, The Great Mass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zFU0FGTeLE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J85b2bcOdp0 I'm also getting more anxious for the new Illnath album which seems to be in some development hell. "Three Nights in the Sewers of Sodom" should have been released already, but got delayed. And now a new album called "Third Act in the Theater of Madness" is being set for a 2011 release. Might be the same album just renamed, but there's no track listing to compare it with. | 2011-05-11 07:00:00 Author: Iudicium_86 Posts: 167 |
Oh, cool! Loved Septic Flesh from "The Ophidian Wheels" time..."Sumerian Demons" was awesome...and I love that other Greek band...the one with "Rotting" in the monicker. I remember the early 90's scene with those very underground bands...like Varathron...and the other realities from other "exotic" little European Countries (I mean, not Countries that have a solid metal legacy, like in Germany, UK or Scandinavia), bands that were very little at the time, like Moonspell, Samael, old The Gathering. They evolved a lot, even if not always for the better I really see the French underground scene thriving. There are excellent bands of tech-death metal like Zubrowska, Hacride, Gojira Gorod, and some Black Metal jewels like Glorior Belli or one of my favourites: Deathspell Omega http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8USPB74Eaw | 2011-05-11 07:20:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

I've only been fond of a few songs since Colony, but for the most part their stuff is weak both in terms of songwriting and intensity. It's practically radio friendly now...uggh | 2011-05-12 16:32:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |
A bit of brag... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQMtOFXc9dI I was in the choir section of the song, since one of our many and few lasting keyboard players was the singer here, since we might have used the intro for our band but we rejected, since we recorded this album and our demo in the same studio in the same period and since we always played soccer against the Aborym guys. I remember how much we joked them for their decision to use Italian vocals, but it turned out SOOOO EPIC!!! I clearly remember all those friends in the Roman scene in this tiny studio before anyone started to go down the drain. COOOL times!!! back in the '97... I still remember their first gig when the singer spitted flames on the hair of the guitarist. EDIT: On a side note, a nice thing (http://www2.tbo.com/news/breaking-news/2011/may/12/tampa-death-metal-drummer-spends-free-time-caring--ar-206573/) metal related | 2011-05-12 16:45:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

I don't like that cover, but I seriously hope the record will be really cool. If they took out the band member's heads it would be alot better imo. I hope there's a little more growling vocals then what Watershed had. | 2011-06-02 16:23:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |
No Rammstein in the OP? For shame! | 2011-06-02 16:53:00 Author: Veyneru Posts: 115 |
Opeth's cover is awful without excuses, their best records is still either Morningrise or My Hearse. Rammstein is not that metal but I liek them Morbid Angel's new record seems to be insane poo. | 2011-06-04 10:49:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
I just got word that Opeth's new album will not have any growls/grunts. Kinda disappointing, but ****ation was extremely epic with no growls, so i'm still looking forward to Heritage. | 2011-06-06 12:43:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |

Wow, I'm so happy to see this thread didn't just die altogether after I left Thank you everybody who kept posting and keeping metal alive on the LBP threads, especially OmegaSlayer - you know more about metal than anyone I know! Anyways, I'm still much too busy to keep constantly updating the OP, but I'll pop in here when I can and do what I can. Here are some bands I discovered recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nov3l4lgShM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLmivRkVOr0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6xzOVAWpcs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3Gri8yHGo8&feature=channel_video_title And I think this thread is very lacking in the Black Dahlia Murder, so.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIKuXnzuYGs | 2011-06-09 02:39:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
The Contortionist is a killer band. I freakin' love that album :3 | 2011-06-09 22:20:00 Author: iGotFancyPants Posts: 1355 |
My favorite band (Mastodon) has announced a few new tracks off of their forthcoming album "The Hunter" Blasteroids The Octopus Has No Friends (my favorite =D) Stargasm Curl Of The Burl All The Heavy Lifting The Sparrow The Ruiner Sounds pretty silly, but i'm pumped x) For those of you who like teh sludgy crap (couldn't think of a better word) I encourage you to check out the bands Zoroaster and Mouth of the Architect. Brent Hinds (Mastodon) does vocals for Zoroaster's "White Dwarf" and Mouth of the Architect's "At Arms Length." | 2011-06-20 01:37:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |
I listen to lots of classic metal music but not newer. But based on the name of those track I think I may have to give this band a try. | 2011-06-20 01:46:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |

You may want to try their album "Crack The Skye," it's a more classic proggy type sound, there other stuff is more sludgy (but I like that stuff, so gooey =D) | 2011-06-20 01:57:00 Author: AbstractFlesh Posts: 837 |

^^^ I think I pillaged a little after I listened to that song. Yeah Mastodon is not too bad at all. They don't fall in with other modern Metal bands I heard. Ones that sound like dogs fighting next to a broken washing machine while Satan is trying to get a chicken bone unstuck from his throat. Accept is probably my favorite metal band right now. | 2011-06-29 14:23:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |

Haha finally some metal maniacs on this site. I'm more into classic metal like Priest and Saxon and OZZY (Without Zake the prat Wylde) but i do like bands like Disturbed, Killswitch engaged and In flames. Has anyone listened to Hammerfall or U.D.O and Primal Fear they are amazing. BTW OmegaSlayer Vortex sound good never heard of them before now. | 2011-07-06 12:58:00 Author: Lordwarblade Posts: 761 |
Hammerfall and U.D.O.(singer of Accept) are some of my favorites. One of the others is Manowar. I'll check out Primal Fear. Forgot to post this on the 4th http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk0wYiUBZ20 | 2011-07-06 13:52:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |
Not to be a downer (no pun intended) but SoaD is back... and is it just me, or does Serj kind of sound like he lost all of what made him a great singer for the band? Was it him going solo? Or him getting old? The rest of them sound absolutely amazing... Just not him. | 2011-07-06 16:21:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |

They did not hold up well to the ridiculous amount of times people spammed their songs. That and some of their songs have really dumb lyrics I wish I could unhear, like the song about tapeworms. | 2011-07-07 14:25:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |
Serj is what I never liked about SOAD. But I can easily not care about the voices if I really like the music. Love Samael, their black metal/industrial mix is explosive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EFQqhuoqPc | 2011-07-10 09:42:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

And their (http://www.metal-archives.com/images/1/3/6/1/1361_logo.jpg) old logo isn't on it (well the one that they've used on all other albums). D: | 2011-07-12 00:45:00 Author: Alec Posts: 3871 |
Evan, it's my pleasure the spread the name of good bands around. Though most of the stuff I can't post here, since what I favour most it's usually not religiously correct. When bands change the logo is always a baaaaaaaaaaad sign...can't rememeber a band changing logo and getting better. Since I'm a good guy, I will post an old band everyone should get acquainted with, this is an instrumental, but you might check the other songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ0AH7G2x7k | 2011-07-13 09:01:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

The intro was calm and relaxing. --------- Trailer for Mastodon's new album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMN5FcgBvBU Song used in the video is 'Black Tongue' which is from their upcoming album. That and some of their songs have really dumb lyrics I wish I could unhear, like the song about tapeworms. Yeah, they have some odd lyrics, but it really gives them a bit of personality. I don't like a few of their songs either, but they are still my favorite band. And they have no NEW music. They just got back together, and their live shows just have no... Spark anymore. So.... it's been a long time since I've contributed to my thread... sorry guys. Big thanks to everybody who's been posting music and keeping this thread alive Glad to see so many people here who are so enthusiastic about metal I'll try to stop by more often and post some videos, but I'm a busy, busy bee... On that note, I stumbled upon this band very recently and I quite like them. They definitely aren't getting as much interest as they deserve. Litany, Epic Doom Metal band from Greece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndYNHt9T5Tk&feature=related P.S. I started a band so when we eventually get a song finished and all that I'll post it here It may be quite a while though.... I recently discovered the band Animals as Leaders and holy heck!!! How have I never heard them before? lol They are, frankly, brilliant. Not really sure if anyone here is a Black Sabbath fan, but anyways, they've reunited and is doing a world tour in 2012. Not really sure what to think about the world tour, IMO Ozzy should've retired years ago. They are releasing an album as well next year, but I really hope that they're playing their old songs on tour though. http://www.thegauntlet.com/article/53/23014/BLACK-SABBATH-Reunite If they're coming to Sweden I'll definitely go, it'll probably be the only chance I'll see Tommy Lommi and Butler playing live. | 2011-11-12 01:44:00 Author: Alec Posts: 3871 |

I like metal but I also listen to a wide variety of genres so I'm not a die hard metalist. I generally go for moody metal with melody, mainly black metal and progressive metal. Isis, Russian Circles, Wolves In The Throne Room and Agalloch for example. If I'm in the mood for something a little heavier then I'll go for Machinehead, Mastadon, Rwake...that sort of thing. I also like hybrid stuff like System of a Down, One Minute Silence and Hadouken. Old school, I think Sepultura are probably my fave. | 2011-11-25 01:17:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
