You like Fleshgod Apocalypse?
That's so cool! I know the guys, also Stefano "Saul" Morabito, the owner of 16th Cellar Studios was a good friend mine. (Was because I hadn't seen him in ages)
My band and his band at the time went often to play soccer together and we had some gigs together.

Omega Yes I love Fleshgod Apocalypse, absolutely without a doubt one of the best new-ish European Bands to come out, only on their 2nd lbum, which really isnt even their second since the firs was an EP, and they are blowing my minds and the minds of my friends, definitely going to be one of the biggest metal band of this part of the century.

I like these types of metals.

Death Metal <3
Black metal
Black Death Metal
Metalcore(Really just As I Lay Dying)

And btw whoever posted that avenged sevenfold is Metalcore... HAHA no they are not, they are technically labeled as "New Metal" which is weird, i dont like a whole lot of new metal despite the fact that i have a lot of respect for avenged sevenfold and am a former fan.

But als i love metal at it's core form and could not live without it, it helps me create levels and lets me vent some of the rage i have through music

What could be better?

Thats right if you give an instrument enough time you can get insane within meer months, if you give it enough you can see yourself get better even in a single day.

It's all about willpower

Core is not my thing, though since i like a good bit of deathcore you could say i enjoyed it even still.

I'm all about the brutal death metal though, that and some rock, not too much though, kinda seems like it is going
in a direction i dont want it to and that is sad. :l

I love metal =D...especially classic and old school thrash! I actually got to play with a couple of the guys from Gothic Slam, they're not very well known cause they got signed in the early 90's (A very bad time for thrash bands) and they didn't survive =/
They still got a couple of albums out and made it on MTV though.

Oh and they do a really freaking awesome cover of Four Horsemen too!

I too enjoyed the entire album. Thought they did pretty great on this one.

I only like 2 songs from this album, Desolation (the one Alex linked) and Terminally Unique. Desolation sounds good, but Terminally Unique (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bZsfMEVLOQ) just blew my mind (one of the sickest intros I've heard from them). The only thing that irks me is all the other songs. To me, it seems like they got lazy with them and just used the same riffs and added lyrics, which BTW I'm not into much. They seem "weak" to me. I don't know how to explain it, but their older songs gave put a smile on my face when I listened to them and I would blast their songs at high volume. These new songs, though, don't give me that same feeling. Some of them, like King Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gTU0YZbX9Q) *, make me want stop the song and put on one of their older ones so I can get it out of my head.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/2e/Lamb_of_God_-_Ashes_of_the_Wake.jpg/220px-Lamb_of_God_-_Ashes_of_the_Wake.jpg

*Words cannot explain the amount of disappointment I experienced from watching this. I don't know if this is experimental, or anything. I just don't even know what happened to Lamb of God anymore....

I agree that it's not as good as their older stuff, but I don't think it's terrible.
Obviously some of it is experimental (like king me), but it's normal for bands to try new things after they've been around for a while and when you do that it's hit or miss.
I think what they did for this album was put in a few experimental things, but also try to focus on what they're comfortable with, as you said they used the same riffs or what sounded like the same riffs. The end result was (hopefully) something that would appeal to old and new fans alike.
Whether or not they "hit or missed" on this album is up to opinion, but I think they definitely could have done worse. That's my two cents lol.

Completely unrelated to above, but this is cool as hell. I wish I could play guitar like that. Or at least find a guitarist who could play like that and wants to start a band with me lol

Cannibal Corpse has two new songs up for their new album "Torture," which is coming out March 13th

Both songs, "Scourge of Iron," and "Demented Aggression" can be streamed here. (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=169314)
Just follow the link and scroll down a bit. They're definitely brutal, awesome songs, but Corpsegrinder will never be as good as Chris Barnes... still though m/

Also, to promote the release of the new album, they are touring with Exhumed, Abysmal Dawn, and Arkaik. More info here. (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=169373)

Enjoy and stay metal guys

I want to use this space to say goodbye to "Baffo"
For 30 years he had been the guy that organized every concert here in Rome, he brought all the big names here, he had a pioneristic radio program "Metal Massacre" and organized the concerts for the bands of unknown metal kids.
He organized every serious gig my band made.
He was a generous selfless guy that always lived inside the scene breathing metal, helping people.
He will be sooo much missed.

R.I.P Baffo.

I'm sure a lot of people appreciated what he did.

Thanks so much Alec, I read all the Italian metal sites, he was in all the front pages, and there wasn't a single negative, not nice comment.
Everyone loved him.
I still can't believe it.
He planned every Sunday a gig in a venue (the Coetus club) inviting little bands from all over the Country to play.
He got our demo CDs from some friends and in 2 weeks we were playing.
2 beers, a frozen pizza and the equivalent of 25 ? for each member, not much, but it seemed the World.

Ok, since I'm really excited about Borknagar's new release on the 26th, I'll do something about Borknagar, eventually I'll do the same for other bands if you like what I'm doing.

Borknagar is a progressive black metal band from Bergen, Norway, founded in 1995 by ?ystein Garnes Brun. The band's style combines black metal and folk metal with progressive and melodic elements. Borknagar's lyrics often deal with philosophy, paganism, nature, and the cosmos.

http://www.metal-archives.com/images/6/2/9/629_photo.jpg?0338

Borknagar was founded by a remaining member of the Norwegian death metal band Molested when then-member ?ystein Brun became tired of the brutal aspects of the band's music. ?ystein formed Borknagar to explore a more melodic outlet of expression, inspired by the burgeoning black metal movement Norway was experiencing and looking to push the boundaries of what was considered "traditional" black metal music. He wrote all of the music and lyrics, and gathered together an all-star group of black metal musicians to play in his band, such as Infernus of Gorgoroth on bass guitar, Grim of Immortal and Gorgoroth on Drums and Ivar Bj?rnson of Enslaved on guitars and keyboards. When Garm, vocalist of Ulver and Arcturus joined the project, it brought the band immediate attention. The band never even recorded a demo; they simply asked for a record contract on Malicious Records and were granted their request based on the strength of this lineup. Borknagar's music instantly gained fans and received positive press attention.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l80083BP31k

In 1997, Borknagar moved to the much bigger Century Media Records and with almost the same line-up (Infernus was in jail for the well known Inner Circle episodes ang was replaced by Kai K. Lie) released "The Olden Domain" one of the albums that is said to have given birth to the 2nd wave of black metal (along with Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, Covenant's Nexus Polaris and Old Man's Child's The Pagan Prosperity)
The raw black metal diminished in favour of more epic compositions favouring the vocal skills of Garm.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-Uf_gQsS7Q

In 1998 Garm (Fiery G.Maelstrom) didn't want to tour with a side project, and was moving away from metal, so he suggested Borknagar to hire Doom's band Lamented Soul's guitarist and vocalist Simen Haestnaes (ICS Vortex) that collaborated with Garm on Arcturus' La Masquerade Infernale.
Jens F. Ryland was hired as a second (but actually lead) guitar.
In "The Archaic Course" Vortex brought a more theatrical voice and the sound started to assimilate 60s and 70s hard rock influences.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oce_0YSCzfc

2000 was a year of big line-up changes.
Simen took bass guitar duties, Ivar was replaced by Solefald's keyboard freak Lars "Lazare" Nedland, also helping with choirs and vocals.
Drums duty were offered to Asgeir Mickelson, a man with the skills of an octopus, and great talent for innovative beat patterns notable is his work with prog-wizards Spiral Architects.
Together this formation brought Borknagar forward in their path with "Quintessence"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkyrFhXzaPM

Soon after the release of Quintessence, the unimmaginable happened.
Simen. that in the mean time joined forces with Dimmu Borgir as bass player replacing Nagash, decided to leave Borknagar to fully focus with Dimmu Borgir and their extensive touring.
Oysten then recruited Eric Tiwaz aka Tyr on the 6 string fretless bass guitar, a monster known for his live presence with Emperor.
On the voice it was recruited Andreas Hedlund aka Vintersorg, a Swedish guy that was starting to get reknown in the metal scene for his one-man band records and for the works with the folk-metal band Otyg.
With the strongest line-up of musicians that Borknagar ever had, "Empiricism" saw the light in 2001.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGt5EMYktG8

The line-up seemed to not have a moment of rest with Jens and Tyr leaving the band and Asgeir filling both their roles in the studio for the release of "Epic" in 2004.
It's a very experimental records with unusual solutions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwUZQf10dio

In the vein of extreme experimentation, and to close the deal with Century Media records, Borknagar decided to compose a record without distorted guitar, trying to retrieve the naturistic roots and spirit of their music.
"Origin" was released at the end of 2006.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh8p4vKrOF8

Jens and Tyr got back in the band but Asgeir, that became a Texas Hold'Em pro left and was replaced by David Kincade, an American drummer that played with various Death Metal acts like Arsis.
In the same period, Simen left Dimmu Borgir, and offered some cameos on "Universal", released in 2010.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2qphDT-HNk&feature=related

Then, what every fan expected in his heart happened, Simen rejoined Borknagar as bass player and side vocalist and main vocal duties on touring (Vintersorg is a teacher and can't tour).
In 10 days, "Urd" will be on the shelves blessing us with 3 of the most talent singers in the extreme World and poetic brutal music

Everybody, check this band out: http://www.colossometal.com/

They've recently released their debut album, it's free for the next 2 months, and they're pretty talented. I will admit, they sound a bit repetitive, and I'm usually not the one to help up and starting bands, but these guys have a LOT of potential. So, if you ever have the time, check them out.

So yesterday I drove for 3 hours in the rain to go see this show: http://www.facebook.com/#!/allshallperish/app_123966167614127 and let me tell you, was it aaaaamaaaazing!!! There were 13 bands that played and the ticket was only $20! 8 hrs of metal for $20, who could pass that up? Let me just say Fleshgod (http://www.facebook.com/#!/fleshgodapocalypse) was absolutely astonishing to see live (And I was right in the front the whole time ). I love the corpse-paint and torn up suits, it's pretty cool to see something unique like that.
Conducting From the Grave (http://www.facebook.com/#!/conductingfromthegrave) also put on a great show, started a good circle pit And The Contortionist (http://www.facebook.com/#!/thecontortionist) was perfect, sounded exactly like the album, they're robots I tell you lol. And while Texas in July (http://www.facebook.com/#!/texasinjulyband) was playing, the bassist and vocalist decided to jump into the crowd and catch everybody by surprise lol. Carnifex (http://www.facebook.com/#!/CarnifexMetal) was crazy (if you like death metal and haven't heard of Carnifex, look them up now!!! click the link and get listening Here's some links to songs they played: Slit Wrist Savior (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seEpR-S2NCk), Lie To My Face (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88JCVFI9iFI&feature=related), and Hell Chose Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTty4gqhnvc) <-- amazing song to see live m/). And then the headline band, All Shall Perish (http://www.facebook.com/jobforacowboy/app_178091127385#!/allshallperish) came on. Holy *insert expletive* were they amazing live! They played a pretty good mix of old and new songs, starting off with Gagged, Bound, Shelved, and Forgotten (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naAbTq2TbrY&feature=related) and playing There Is No Business to Be Done On A Dead Planet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6-3kN_tRlA), The Day of Justice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77p4nRKdiOk&feature=related), Procession of Ashes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edx30Gz10VA&feature=related), Divine Illusion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeYv9Y4hodI&feature=fvwrel), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0n-QPg2Hao, and Awaken the Dreamers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns4EA4OJt18) and doing a wall of death (example: imagine this, but with less than 100 people and in a small bar lol (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKrGMbRc4NA&feature=related)) for Deconstruction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtScK_Sxpvs) and pulling everyone up on stage to end with Wage Slaves (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJglaqH5Tno).
Sadly, no videos and my phone has no flash so all the pictures came out like crap

Hands down, best show I've ever been to. If any of you guys get the chance to go see this tour (check the dates in the first link, they'll be playing in KS, CO, UT, NV, and CA during the rest of this month and overseas in following months), DO IT!!!

Also, Job For A Cowboy had a new album release earlier this month. I haven't had a chance to go buy it yet, but the song they released before hand, Nourishment Through Bloodshed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1luhE5V_e6Q) is pretty sick. I'll have to buy this album soon...

Thanks again for keeping this thread alive everyone (particularly you, Omega lol ), stay metal m/ m/

Sure, it's an honour for me.
I will try, lately I didn't follow them closely like I did with Borknagar but will try with pleasure

Moonspell

Moonspell is a Portuguese heavy metal band. Formed in 1992, the group released their first EP Under the Moonspell in 1994, a year before the release of their first album Wolfheart. The band quickly gained status and became one of the most recognizable metal bands from Portugal.

http://www.metal-archives.com/images/6/1/61_photo.jpg?2800

Between 1992 and 1994 the underground extreme Metal scene was literally taken by storm by the Norse Black Metal movement.
It seemed that every Norse band was a hit (Satyricon, Emperor, Enslaved, Immortal, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Dimmu Borgir, Ulver), it was something in their DNA, in their being TRVE, rooted to a movement that went beyond music and bonded to the very Nature of their land.

Every other non Norse band experimenting with TRVE black metal seemed to fall short.
Sweden had its fortunate twist with bands mixing Black Metal with Death, with impressive results like Dissection, Lord Belial, Naglfar, Throne Of Ahaz, Niden Div 187, Thy Primordial.

Then 2 little Countries never famous for metal came up with the best efforts of making Black Metal contaminating it with Mediterranean sound influences instead of Nordic Folk.

One of them was Greece, very active with CVLT bands like Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh, Necromantia, Varathron, Astarte.

The other one was Portugal, land of the amazing singer Fernardo Ribeiro, leader of Moonspell.
In 1994 the now dead Adipose records released a 5 songs EP, Under The Moospell, arecord that was very raw, but already showed a personality that let them take distances from the Trve Norwegian Black Metal scene.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9qgil_Bg10&feature=related

The record, almost a demo, was a big success even with a really lacking distribution and poor label, but was enough to draw the interests of the much bigger Century Media, that in that period was starting to expand his band roster with bands with "personality"
In 1995 Moonspell released Wolfheart that, for trivia knowledge, was the first Century Media record to go out of stock and was reprinted with a different (less cool) cover.
Wolfheart gave up a bit of rawness for some more personal influences Gipsy/Iberic like you have heard with Alma Mater or in Trebaruna
Wolfheart also sees Fernando Ribeiro showing his true vocals skills that were not only a very powerful growl scream, but a really full, all round impressive voice
It's nice to note that Moonspell always had big lyrical interest for the creatures of the night, like vampires but mostly wolves and werewolves

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAT5m3h_ikM

Then it came 1996.
Personally I think 1995-1996 has been the biggest and coolest period I witnessed in metal.
The extreme scene was "maturing", shifting, growing, assimilating influences and making their own.
Some incredible records were released, like Therion - Theli, Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery, Amorphis - Elegy, Samael - Passage, Tiamat - Wildhoney, The Gathering - Mandyllion and Moonspell - Irreligious.
Irreligious was Fernardo Ribeiro's personal homage to Fernando Pessoa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Pessoa), the most important poet Portugal had.
The rhythms slowed down and a decadent mood started to permeate Moonspell's music.
You heard Opium, this is Full Moon Madness

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSYPD6Sl4Bs

The metal scene was still looking forward a way to evolve itselves, I remember between 1996 and 1998 bands discovered Depeche Mode, and this messed up big time some of the best premises of the bands that changed so innovatively.
Some electronic, loops, mood, beats typical of Depeche Mode invaded metal.
Moonspell were infected too, and in 1998 at the apex of their career, after the unbelievable success of Irreligious, they released Sin/Pecado
The fans...me included, didn't took it well

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOIKK9NwqcA

Moonspell rushed to record a new album in a year, The Butterfly FX in 1999, based on the Chaos Theory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_theory), wanting to justify all the differences in sounds, style.
Poor songs, bad sound engineering.
A record that totally bombed and nearly destroyed Moonspell career

I can somehow imagine them watching Twilight, expecting it to be good because it has wolves and vampires, then making a song about how much it sucked.

Welcome back OS.

I've been catching back up on Metalocalypse the past few days. The first season was amazing! I love this show so much.

Also, a fan of metal, but I'm a little more on the old-school side. I have always been into the older heavy metal scene. Need to get into my Musics again. Gonna probably be up all night reading through all of the posts trying to find some new bands/songs.

Edit: Spent about 3 hours going through all of the posts on here. I found a lot of awesome stuff, but my head is killing me from wearing my headphones for about 7 hours straight. Got through 11 pages, that leaves 12 for tomorrow.

Oh God, I couldn't stop laughing at the ending, especially after the 't' caught on fire.

Well that ending sucked. I loved the 'drama', comedy, and Nathan destroying his albums as usual, but does that mean we have to wait for the actual album to be released? If not, awesome! But if we do have to wait more, then why.jpg.

And then another of my mates who is a music student re-did some of the guitar and remixed it (they gave him all the stems etc) and ended up with this 'Djentier' (that so isn't a word) version of '8 Years Old'...

http://soundcloud.com/tomspell Found this guy on soundcloud today, I recommend checking his stuff out, he's got some serious talent!

Also, I made my own soundcloud account and got around to recording a guitar track (http://soundcloud.com/fancy_zombie/rough-demo-guitar-only). Let me know what you guys think and if anyone wants to maybe coordinate a Melo-Death project together or needs a drum track I'll see if I can find some time for that. It'd be really cool

It would be fun to put something together
Alec (EvilClayton) plays bass guitars.
I recorded this a couple of week ago, first take and not perfect at all like I could do it but, it was just after getting out of the shower (that's why there's no images) and I get nervous out when I have to record something, I even forget simple parts of the songs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l26E2NHIUDY

This is ok though

Dude, you shred!!! I would love it if we could put a project together
Nobody around me plays bass lol. Now all we need is a vocalist...
I know what you mean about getting nervous recording, the guitar track that I recorded took me a few tries lol.

"This is ok though" - don't be so modest man, you're amazing!

Thanks :blushes:
Dortr plays bass and I'm not that bad at playing it, I need a bass but I could use my 8 strings eventually

I used to play bass some years ago, but now I primarily play drums (4 and a half years) and some guitar.
If you record a guitar track and send it to me I can record some drums when I have time
And hound Alec or Dortr for bass playing. It'd be cool as hell if we could get something put together.

Also, more metal m/

I do like metal, but I am not too big on death metal (Sorry to disappoint you guys.)
KoRn would have to be my favourite band, along with Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Slipknot.

I'm gonna probably record some more today and get around to posting it to soundcloud. I'll post when I'm done.
On that note, does anyone use the music editing program "reaper?" I use it, but I can't figure out how to combine tracks prior to uploading

Update: Totally figured out how to export and upload multi-track today and I got around to recording a little something. Please give this a listen and let me know what you think, if you would feel so inclined. http://soundcloud.com/fancy_zombie/false-hope

And I'm not really digging the vocals in the new Nile.. their older stuff is much better IMO.
I'm liking Grand Magus though

And I've fallen in love with these bands:

So sorry for not being active in this thread. I kind of lost(?) interest for metal the past months and started listening to other music. Well anyways, I decided to go with my friends and see a metal band at a local bar yesterday and I had a blast. Probably one of the best nights ever, I got to talk to the band afterwards. That concert reminded me of how much I love metal, the energy, the people and everyone headbanging.

I'll listen through the songs I missed in this thread when my ears stop ringing, haha.

They sound exactly, if not better live then on the album. They opened for both bands and made the show pretty memorable.

Here's a shameless plug of my own work: http://soundcloud.com/fancy_zombie/burn-the-king

And here are some bands that I've stumbled upon recently:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=Yf9IcRTD0zk&feature=endscreen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbGXVHzyzLc&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgC8jfy-yrg&feature=related

Is anyone interested in coordinating a band project online? We can record parts separately and put it all together. It'd be cool And I'm not restricting myself to one genre either. It doesn't have to be death metal. I'm down for whatever.

I don't have idea how to record, but yes.

Sweet! I use an Alesis iO4 mixer (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/alesis-io4-4-channel-24-bit-recording-interface) and any amp with an output can plug straight into it to record. You would just need a recording program for your computer to actually put it together and export it. I use the program "REAPER," (http://www.reaper.fm/) which came free with my Peavey Viper amp. I think you can download it for free from that link. I'm pretty new to recording as well, so I'm not sure how helpful I can be, but I'm sure if you use google or youtube you can find some fairly good tutorials.

Also, if your amp doesn't have an output, then you would a microphone as well. If you have a Guitar Center store near you, it would help to go talk to someone in the Audio/Recording department. That's what I did and I walked away with everything I needed for decent recordings. Hope this helps man, I'm looking forward to this

I'll tell him you said that. They really will go places. I'm glad things are working out for him.

P.S. did you get that recording thing figured out? I know buying the stuff for it is kind of a big investment, but to me it was worth it, not sure how you feel.

Really cool songs, although vocals could use some work. They remind a lot of We Butter The Bread With Butter, in which their vocals aren't really outstanding but yet they blend well with their songs as though they're instruments themselves. The only differences between your brother's band and them though is a) they're German, and b) they implement electronic and other weird instruments into their songs. Your brother's band does have a unique sound to it, though I can't put my finger on it (riffs maybe?) Regardless, I enjoyed both songs.

Tell your brother congrats for me and that I wish him luck.

I HIGHLY recommend these two bands, both with J Mann (the singer) who used to be in Mushroomhead.:

First is Pitch Black Forecast. A band formed in 2005 consisting of Jason Popson (J Mann), ex-Strapping Young Lad drummer Gene Hoglan and former Integrity bassist Steve Rauckhorst. These songs are from an album they released just a few months ago AND IT'S FREAKIN' AWESOMEE!!11!11!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjFIOLImsfA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnO3gBDqBCY

Second is (216). Formed in 1997 and consists only of members from the band Mushroomhead, though (216) sounds nothing like Mushroomhead

They were going to include J Mann on Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children but apparently his recordings sounded like Mr. Krabs, which is crazy because Mr. Krabs has a brutal voice. But yeah, all three would be insane. Then they need Gravy and Pig to come back, I miss them already.

Saying ''KMFDM sucks'' is actually not a negative thing (well.. it depends on who says it), it's just a way KMFDM fans express their love for the band and they usually chant it during concerts. It's like with the band Primus where people say "Primus sucks", it usually upsets some fans that aren't aware of the joke.

Sounds good! I mean, most power metal singers drive me off with their "hey check this out, I can do vibrato!" style, so listening to anything in the genre that DOESN'T is a blessing to me; I'm going to pay attention to this band.

That's why I love Axenstar, the vocals might be much inferior technically (not much unlike melodic punk vocals), but in practice they bring something fresh to the genre.

Neurotech is by far one of the most underrated bands that I know of. The mix of industrial - and groove metal is incredible. The even more incredible thing is that the band only consists of one member (except when playing live): Wulf. All of his albums are free and can be downloaded from his website. He also released two amazing EP's last year which I highly recommend.
