Although, aren't the bodies the same costume?
Maybe it is:
Female
Male
Male (muscles)

Cannot wait to see syndrome!

EDIT: Found a pic of syndrome and his ma-husive hair, anyone say super saiyans?

True, but considering these post are automatically grabbed from the Mm website, they can't be stopped from posting.

Besides, we now have an official post about the DLC, so if anything the other threads should be locked.

WTB this Level Kit now. I also want to hear the full audio track.

(If only we could get an untethered jet pack in the form of a super-hero cape with no smoke or loud fire-extinguisher sound.)

I've just realised a big problem with this, the baby (what's his name Jack-Jack or something) is as tall as the dad. I guess there's not much they can do about that though because if they made him smaller everyone would use him to get through smaller spaces...2010-03-29 19:11:00

Wouldnt this be considered a larger pack than medium because it has 9 materials? The others had like 5.

This most definitely is good news. We're likely to get new Metal and Stone materials as the latter parts of the movie take place in high-tech areas. Also, the audio can't hurt at all. Must-buy.

Though this kinda tarnishes the chances of my newest project coming out. :U

I'm sorry but... I don't think I will buy this. I don't know I'm just not excited about the costumes. Nor am I about the level pack, the Fro-zone costume, the stickers, the new background, the new music track, and everything else. Maybe it's because The Incredible is not really one of my favourite Pixar movies, maybe it's because the Pirates of the Carribean Level Pack wasn't that great, maybe it's because... there's just nothing for me here.2010-03-29 21:24:00

OK. I'm a HUGE incredibles fan, so I'll post my detailed thoughts.

Costumes
Edna Mode: Small nose and wig will be useful.
Syndrome: Perfect hair piece for DBZ fans.
Frozone: Doesn't say anything about the nose. Attached to goggles probably.
Retro Mr. Incredible: I love this suit design. Saves me having to make it.
The rest: Mr. Incredible torso, useful for people who only have the gorilla suit (ie. me) for an alternative. Helen / Violet body, interesting that it is a little skinnier than the standard sackboy. Now everyone has to re-do all their female costumes! xD . Super suit mask, it's cool, a bit rounder than the Watchmen one. Family hair pieces, might come in handy, violet + jack jack probably be the most useful.

Background
Will be nice for office building themed levels. I would have preferred another jungle background from the "100 mile dash"

Decorations
Some very useful things here. Satellite dish, useful for about every mechanical level ever. New radios, finally some alternatives to the MGS sticker. Fins, all vehicles look cooler with fins.

Materials
Some lovely retro designs. The three stone materials will be popular. The awards/Memorabilia material, useful for filling a room without resorting to the cliche "framed ingame photo on the wall". Although it does tile pretty quickly (see MM costume page for example)

Objects
There is a "1960's Lighting Fixture", hopefully a new kind of light?

Stickers
No one uses the white bordered stickers. I don't know why MM bother with these.
In the center of the "stickers" image, there are stylized/vector action poses with no white background.
I also see some of the other "retro" superheroes. A nice addition.
Cityscape (bottom right) sticker = awesome.
Some very nice vector diagram stickers as well.
LOVE that Dash logo sticker. "Dash - fast as lightning". Will be interesting to see if there is one for Violet and Jack Jack. (I hope so!) as that kind of thing didn't happen in the movie.
Nice palm tree and mechanical window up the top right.

Music
Sounds like a MM version of the Incredibles music. I would have preferred "The Incredits" from the soundtrack (which encapsulates the entire sound track into a bite sized 7 minutes). Better than nothing though. Curious to hear more of MM's version.

Gallery Level
Yay! Looks like they take you around all of the movie locations (retro rooftops + hideout revealed so far)

Other notes
- No AUS / NZD price on Level kit. But it will be priced at roughly $9(AU) + $10 (NZ)
- Funny how this pack comes out a week after I redo and perfect my own Incredibles custom costumes.
- Looking forward to Syndromes hair + incredibles suit + music the most.
- Some of the stickers come from the concept sketches for the movie.
- Memorabilia material is based on the wall of Mr. Incrdible's study room from the movie.
- Monster Inc pack would be awesome. I hear there is a sequel in the works.

Oh and if you didn't already guess, I will be buying both packs.

INCREDIBLES!

Oh, well this is officially annoying. There is me doing a visual revamp of a sci-fi esque level and feeling pretty good about how it's coming along and then MM come and release a level pack which is bound to make me want to do a complete re-imagining yet again. And I was totally gonna finish that project sometime soon as well I hate you MM

That was my first thought when i saw it, shame, it could have been really useful. I did hear a little 'wow' crowd sound effect in the trailer, I'm hoping that there's a few more of those. I also saw a load of plants but looks like they're part of the background, not decorations, grrr. Anyway, there's bound to be a few great things amongst it all, about time we got some new stuff!

There's many problems with the pack. First off, they all look the same. Second, they got their costumes for free, while we have to pay. And finally, they need to take a minute or two to dress, while we have to click a button.

Seriously, it's a minor thing, no biggy.

Awesome Stuff! 9 Costumes, for 4.79?!? Nice (slightly miffed I payed the same for only four MGS costumes, but oh well)

andddd...

Seeing as Toy Story 3 is out soon (June over in UK, I believe), would there be a chance of DLC for that?

if so, it should be like this:
Costumes: Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Slinky, Rex, one of those Aliens, Mr.Potato Head? (and maybe some of the new ones)
Few materials, some stickers/decorations, a couple of objects, Andy's room background (like it was in 1&2)
and an Andy's room type level?

EDIT: Whoever came up with the pun in the thread name is brilliant

I don't know if I'll get this or not. I'm not one for costumes so no thanks to that pack, but Im still undecided on the level kit. I've bought so many now yet havn't released a single level that made use of them yet.

Also I find the Incredibles to be a bit of a strange choice. I would have found a pack based on say Monsters Inc or Finding Nemo to be more interesting ideas, particular Monsters Inc for costumes.

Also there's the fact that Toy Story 3 is on the way. And who doesnt like Toy Story?

In my honest opinion, I wish they would make less licensed level packs and start coming up with some more of their own, like the Monsters pack or History pack. It allows MM to be a lot more imaginative with what they make of the kit, and gives us far more variety to add to the game.2010-03-30 18:38:00

OMG I NEED a Sully costume! TBH, the incredibles is great for the materials etc, whish is probably why it's been done. It's beena good long while since anything sci-fi esque has come out, so that will certainly be a bonus.

Also there's the fact that Toy Story 3 is on the way. And who doesnt like Toy Story? Ummm, I wouldn't say dislike, but it's soooo overrated

Credit goes to Tom (from Mm) for that one. Even though here it says it was posted by Spaff, it was actually Tom.

Hang on, isn't that wilma flintsone, just in a ball gown?
You have just stumbled upon the darkest secret in disney history! :o

But yeah, even though I love The Incredibles, Monsters Inc or Toy Story costumes would be better, as they are harder to replicate in game.
I have always wanted a fur costume skin for making yeti/sully/etc in LBP.

In my honest opinion, I wish they would make less licensed level packs and start coming up with some more of their own, like the Monsters pack or History pack. It allows MM to be a lot more imaginative with what they make of the kit, and gives us far more variety to add to the game.

Yes I must say I agree completely.... But sadly business is bussiness

Though a lot of people just love licensed DLCs... not that I don't like them (they are great most of the time),
but sometime all that money and marketing stuff is a little annoying to me...

I must say, I'm a bit disappointed. I thought that it would be on the same level as the MGS4 and PotC packs. I guess this pack is cool, and some of this would be useful for a 50's-type level, and Incredibles levels. Other than that, though, it all looks pretty useless.2010-03-30 23:09:00

A lot of the stickers look useless, as well as the material with Mr. incredible plastered all over the walls, but the other materials and stuff look pretty good.

That would of been more sensible instead of releasing it with the POTC pack. Dory would be so awesome in LBP form.

Hooray! I was guessing there would be a new gallery pack with materials and a background coming out this month or next month and I was right. I hope there will be an actual premium level pack released soon like Metal Gear Solid and Pirates of the Caribbean. Hopefully a Ratchet and Clank pack next.
It seems there is a pattern to the amount of time between big packs like this and the Monsters and history pack. There is usually a space of 3 or 4 months.

Will I buy them both? Probably yes...XD I usually buy packs because you never know when you will find something useful...

A more generic pack though would be nicer, much like the History, or Monster pack with lots of original things that have more uses...

Personally I don't see that the mosters pack was any more generic, or multi-purpose, than the PotC pack, for example. Just because the pack is tied to a specific IP does not mean that it can only be used for that IP. Anything new is a bonus, as you say, you don't know when something's gonna come in useful.

You might be right. Most DLC is typically patched into the game long in advance of its release date, so if you can guess the correct decryption key, you can start playing with this content already.

This seems like a really odd choice for a DLC... isn't this movie like 6 years old?

But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I'll most likely end up downloading this for the music, materials, and stickers, if not the theme. New stuff like that is always welcome, regardless of what it's about.

I think it could mean there may be a new Incredibles film coming out soon, think about it, they released the Pirates of the Caribbean pack, shortly after they announced that they're making a new film. They release the Sonic pack, for a while it's been announced they're in the making of a new sonic game like the classic ones. Coincidence or what?

yeah, i mean, they left the film with something to follow on with - the Underminer. a squeal would be plausible, after all, this IS Disney.

The only thing that bother me a little is that 50% of that background is just a stone wall....
I think that they could have detailled all the center part a little more...don't you think?

WOW! I'm surprised to hear that "The Incredibles" level kit is coming in august! The movie "The Incredibles" is one of my favorite animated features of the past decade. I may only have 3 US dollars left in my PSN bank, but I know exactly what I'm going to buy if I added 2 dollars. The level kit is going to be as exciting as the MGS, Monster, History, and POTC level kit.2010-04-03 16:27:00

The background is better than I thought it would be. Love the music (just a shame it's not interactive). And the drill object thing rotates sideways!!

The background is a bit too dark, in fact it's the darkest of them all, even with the lighting controls turned up full, which is a shame, since you can always make a background darker with the lighting controls, but to make it lighter, you'd have to place a load of lights in there.

Music is non-interactive, and seemingly rendered with cheap synthesized instruments rather than real ones, although if the same is true of the movie (which I still haven't seen) that might be intentional.

Drill thing is cool - another new danger element. If you attach decorations, they spin 'round too, much like attaching to a powerup remover.

There's a couple of new switchable/tweakable lights, one of which is gassable so you can embed it in something else. Lighting looks similar to the spotlight, but more diffuse.

Some of the materials are generic enough to be useful in many situations, particulatly the brushed steel.

I just managed to photograph some dark matter in the gallery level Pics uploaded. Sadly I now can't complete the level! Silly MM not securing the level well enough.

Interestingly though, the section with the little pod thing on the track, the objects in the back that look like they are several layers back, are actually just on the back layer, with false perspective created by moving them with the pod (but slower). Is a very effective implementation.

You should still have time to get to a shop to buy a PSN card today.

I'll have to take another look at that later on. When I played through it the first time, I accidentally jumped back out of the pod before the doors shut, which allows you to walk through that section at a leisurely pace to take a closer look.

Erm. haven't any of you got friend on the PS3 from the EU who already have this?

Just join them and then get them to enter the gallery level and you'll be able to play it with them.
Obviously any objects and such that you then collect can't be used until you purchase the kit yourself, but all the data is there ready in your PS3 so playing this with a friend that already owns it, regardless of where they are is fine.

Yeah I've had one up a while mate. go take a look.

A couple of weird things I've noticed already though :

(1) The background is very dark when you firt select it. I had the lighting up to full but it was really dark. I found that to get it at it's lightest I had to turn the level lighting down to around half ! Very strange.

(2) In the actual level kit when you get to the scoreboard they have the underminer's drill break through the left hand wall and it's rotating through the Y axis ( I think it's Y ). Anyway whichever it is it's one we can't do. I've been wanting to rotate things that way ever since the game launched. Could this be a new future feature ? It obviously shows that it's possible.

Just published "The Incredibles Gallery Level" - it's very quick and dirty, and I couldn't really use the new background, since it's soooo dark, you wouldn't be able to see a thing.

Edit: odd - mistervista's didn't come up in a search earlier - I might just remove mine.

Anyway whichever it is it's one we can't do.

This has been possible for a long time. You can attach decorations to one of the spinning powerups to get them to spin thru the Z axis.

I checked out mistervista's gallery and I love this kit. Also after playing lbpholic's gallery I discovered that the grab object at the end of mistervistas was a lamp, but mistervista has it sitting on the ground so I didn't know it was a lamp at the time. Either way both galleries I saw had pros and cons.

Anyways I got so many ideas for a new level. Love the materials. I love the new drill hazardous object.

As for the background I won't know how it really looks (lighting wise I mean) since mistervista changed the lighting, and I couldn't tell in lbpholics really since most the background was hidden from view.

I like the pod top and bottom objects also. And the music can be useful as well in the right level.

It's out in the NA store. At least in the store... I didn't see it in game.

Edit: Dang! For some reason, I don't have the very first prize. Anyone willing to assist with a hint? I played it thrice, and thought I got them all.

Side note: anyone else notice that MM used a custom sticker on one of their buildings? It's in the park looking area just before the perspective street/alley. It's just a building facade, but it's amusing none-the-less.

In all, a very well crafted showcase level.

Without knowing what it is I'm not sure but there is a bubble just to the right of the entrance that you have to jump up to. Also the ones where you slide down and all the blue lights obscure your view making the bubbles difficult to see you have to jump to get one of those also. Is it one of those?

This has been possible for a long time. You can attach decorations to one of the spinning powerups to get them to spin thru the Z axis.

Yes I know about that but this isn't a decoration, it's an object. I noticed when I played my demo level though that the object is rotating all by itself so it's inbuilt into it somehow.

I don't see how they're any different. Both the new drill and the spinning powerups are 3D objects. You can attach decorations to either, and they spin, and if you glue another object to either, the objects don't spin.

So what's the difference exactly?

I notice that a lot of people are commenting about how they're missing the first prize. It's a sticker of a BBQ grill, nothing much.

It's very cool to use the mirror glitch on that new metal.

The materials look way better than they looked in the picture, i like the stones the best, generic enough for a lot of stuff. Not fond of the sponges though, and the memoribilia material is awful imo. Theres some useful stickers and decorations too. Well worth the money.

Im missing number 89 though, i cant seem to find it enough though all of them are basically laying out for you lol.

True. You can't glue objects to the spinny part of a powerup, but gluing objects to the drill doesn't do anything interesting anyway.

I don't see what this has to do with making your own objects spin in the Z-axis though. Now, as before, the only objects that can spin in the Z-axis are MM-made objects, and they don't technically spin from a simulation POV, it's just a texture effect really.

I doubt they'll ever allow creators to make their own objects spin in the Z-axis, only decorations, as allowing objects to spin in this axis wouldn't be compatible with a layered 2D simulation engine. You'd need a true 3D simulation engine, which would require writing a whole new game.

I noticed a rather annoying bug with the drill. I was making an animal with the drill as a nose, and I accidentally glued it to the floor. So I unattached it. When I closed my popit, the drill fell away from the animal even though it was glued. Later, I made a jetpack so the animal would move. I kept having to change the rocket's boost. But everytime I deattached the thin object in front of the rocket, the drill deattached to. I had another drill on the jetpack, but it was fine and not affected.2010-04-09 02:35:00

-Dash Posing
-Syndrome Gloating (Rhyme)
-Frozone is Cool (Pun!)

Ya, I know. MM always seems like they're trying to show they can outdo us with the basics.

I've never seen this-

http://images04.olx.in/ui/1/41/77/14923477_1.jpg

-style of depth recreated so fluently on a thin layer in any lbp level.

The monorial pod scene, too, was impressive. It had me doing a lot of replays just to admire it.

MM really outdid themselves. i had to check again that it was all on the back layer and not some MM wizardry.

I think the best bits of the pack are the materials. luuurve the brushed steel and the sponges and stones look great. only that memorabilia wall - if it was't covered with pictures of Mr Incredible and "Mr Incredible Does It Again!" phrases, it might be a good material.

The showcase was great, especially the lair. looked so good!

I love this pack. This is one of my favorite packs to date. It is actually the first pack that inspired me to make a level using only stuff from the Icredibles pack.

I was worried about the background at first because mistervista said earlier this thread MM darkened it. But once I saw it for myself in create I realize there is no problem with the background. It's just a background set in a certain time of day, just like the Metropolis background is set at night.

I love most of the materials. The memoribilia one I didn't like at first, but then I realized it isn't all that bad if you sticker it. So then I figured the memoribilia would look good as a custom picture collage, like sticker it white (or whatever color), then place smaller stickers of choice in the frames, and use an accessory to cover the still noticable gun.

My favorite objects are the Drill and Pod Top and Bottom. But I've even found the other objects useful as well.

Suprisingly I like the music. I would of preferred an interactive music, but of well. At least this music actually goes good with 'hard' levels that fit the feel of music.

As for the showcase level, I got all the prizes on my first and only try. I had no problems getting them. I'm suprised so many did since none of them were hidden. I'm glad they didn't hide any from view, because I was thinking as I approached scoreboard I probably missed something, but luckily I didn't.

Also when I saw the thin layer 3D effect, I thought exactly what compher was thinking, that they did it on purpose to show us the layer glitch isn't needed.

Lol to Sposim i play wit him quite a bit lol, but yeah the new under miners dril is not a decoration it is a dynamic object.

If you want to change the darkness of the background so it is lighter go into the lighting settings move the ligtness to the midlle, in the newer pacsk the max brightness is in the middel, thanks toi Luos_Desruc for doing that for me.

It's a cool pack. Always nice with new DLC. The new background however cause screen tearing..it's not a lot but you notice it. Anyone agree? It's causing some framerate drop. I tried it on an old level and it the fps dropped to the point where I didn't want to use it. Seems the background is already equipped with some volume lights too.2010-04-09 10:41:00

IT's a perspective trick. As you rush past on the monorail, the rocketship is also moving right on a piston - it's not fixed in place. As it takes longer to move past it it feels like it is further back and larger. It just adds a sense of scale to the thing that isn't really there. It probably helps that it moves past too quickly for you to really analyse what is going on (I noticed the movement when I jumped out of the monorail).

I went back to it after I read this. Funny stuff. I never thought MM would do this. Surely they are skilled enough to create a building without a custom sticker?

Interesting. From the Buzz pack you say. Anything unique about that certain sticker?

Does anyone know how the garage door opens?
It lifts up into a space smaller than the door itself. It sounds/looks like emitters are being used?

Also, the lava looks great, it seems like it is glass on a piston with flipper motion?

I was looking at the stickers, and my favourite one differs from this (http://www.littlebigplanet.com/images/assets/shared/dlc/imagery/incredibles-stickers.jpg). The dash sticker, in LBP, has no font "dash fast as lightning" I wonder why..?
I love the city scape sticker though, very handy.

I never thought MM would do this. Surely they are skilled enough to create a building without a custom sticker? What are you talking about? All of the PotC buildings were made with custom stickers. They just happened to then sell the custom stickers to us. A huge amount of MMs stuff is just sticker cut-outs, and they make the stickers (and they do so to a plan, most likely), so effectively, a hell of a lot of their stuff is effectively just custom stickering, they just have better tools for making custom stickers than us.

It is amusing that they have used a sticker generated in the editor, like us mortals have to, though

Does anyone know how the garage door opens?
It lifts up into a space smaller than the door itself. It sounds/looks like emitters are being used? I'll have to take a look. Does it close again? If not then I'd guess dissolve.

Also, the lava looks great, it seems like it is glass on a piston with flipper motion? Exactly what it is - you can see the jerking motion as it resets... *sigh* I will say no more

No it doens't close again. It must just be dissolve with a piston connected to each piece and some mag/key switches.

Geez, MM has really lost the touch in making levels.
Both this level and the water pack levels are awful, and they're boring to play.

The incredible one is obscenely awful, and yesterday I had to go through the water levels because my datas got corrupted and I lost everything that I got in the pack and the levels/costumes I made after. (Is someone with 2 pads willing to join me to help me with the 4x section of the water pack?)
Well, they're just there to showcase the materials in the worst, saddest way.
You can really see that the levels are built out of boredom.

The stuff you can collect is great, I love the new shining metal material; but I'm beginning to wish to have the new stuff already downloaded in my bag than being forced to collect with one or more playthrough in something that I feel boring.
And I love the story levels. they're well designed and always fun to play, so I think that there's something wrong in the new ones.

No it wouldn't. Creators would just have to work harder at their design to give a 3D illusion using the thin back layer. It's entirely possible and doesn't affect the camera badly like the glitch does.

Talking of dark matter though, have you noticed all the visible dark matter and workings in this level. You can see loads under the garage in particular. I took some photos and uploaded them yesterday but they will probably be gone from the level pics now, although they will still be on my profile.

I think they may have done that on purpose, as if to say that we don't need to Extra Layer glitch to create depth.

Perhaps. Or maybe it was just easier for them to do it that way, than to bother creating a custom 3D background just for the purposes of that level.

Point is that MM effectively use the "extra layer glitch" every time they create a new 3D background. It's amazing how closely warlord_evil's version of the tutorial background resembles the one that MM created. The only difference between theirs, and the ones we can create, is that every object in theirs is static, etherial, and unselectable.

You're right in that we don't need the extra layer glitch to create a false sense of perspective, but it would be a bit hypocritical of them to say we shouldn't use the glitch, when they effectively use it all the time. Ditto for the material properties glitch, since they use that one too.

The background is pretty useless. It's too dark and really, what kind of level would you make with it as the background?

As mistervista pointed out earlier, the background is (counter-intuitively) at its brightest when the global lighting setting is set halfway, but I agree it's not the sort of background likely to be generic enough to be of much use.

Was there sounds? I'm pretty sure there was supposed to be sounds!

A new sound object was never advertised as being part of the pack, which is a shame. I'd rather have had that than the new music object.

Regarding the material properties glitch being used by Mm, I'd say that's just leftover earlier versions of materials that were never fixed to match the new ones we collect (I assume this is referring to the likes of Frida's cardboard wood etc).

Regarding the issue of the level quality, the hint is in the title, showcase level. Remember the history kit level?!

Honestly, I don't see MM patching up the glitches more than they already have. The false perspective thing is just them showing off IMO, and why shouldn't they? I doubt they would deliberately use the glitches that have since been patched up, simply for the fact that this would somewhat endorse them - the obvious reason for patching such things is so that they are not considered "supported features", but doing something as overt as using extra layers in a "proper" level produced by MM would effectively be an official statement that the "feature" is sound and fully bug free.

As for the showcase levels for the packs... I'd honestly rather they were optional, and have been saying so since the monsters pack.

Well anyway... I like this pack even if it has very much useless stuff, some of it is absolutely awseome.
That drill is just awesome, I would just wish we would be able to attach a switch to it so it could be stopped for a while. Having it running all the time can be a bit confusing when you use it...
Have you tried to put some blood splats on the drill? It looks amazing!

That antenna decoration will get some use, I'm sure of that... maybe even some others, but I wouldn't be too sure.

Quite frankly i am getting fed up with you taking it out on some of the women on this site such as Fenderjt and now s3xNstilletos, i think this is rude and just mean.

That i think is way over the top Mistervisat it was unnescasary and down right rude, s3x is a great person to play with who dosent need to brag about how good she is in platfroming and gettin the stuff, cause i know she is, Just cause she found it easy to do the level dosent mean that u have the right to have a go at her for saying that she did it, i did it on first go so what its nothing big, she was only stating her opinion.

Quite frankly i am getting fed up with you taking it out on some of the women on this site such as Fenderjt and now s3xNstilletos, i think this is rude and just mean.

I have to agree with lbpholic on this one, you really need to calm down, mistervista. This site isn't for arguing. If you think someone is bragging, just tell them, no need to go yelling at her...

Great pack !

I like it alot. They should have made this new metallic material before, way before. They made metallic materials with a lot of patterns inside, but they had just forgotten a simple and smooth metal.

I love their bricks too. And the wall full of newspaper articles

I agree with you on this point, but as for the pink writing...

The color feature is meant as a tool, not a complete overhaul of your text's color. While we do allow a few users to use it in other ways, we don't support the practice. So no, we won't be doing this because it would encourage more people to partake in it, and we don't want [color] tags being used in that fashion.

...I agree with mistervista and CC on this point.

If you're gonna make your text so hard to read, you'll probably find that no-one will bother even trying, which kinda defeats the purpose of posting anything in the first place.

Well done. You found the secret message. You win.... nothing.

As you said guys it's a showcase...
When you go to a shop, do you see the things just stacked up or does the shop owner puts the things in a way that you can enjoy them much more than you do at your home?
The showcases (that are not showcases imho) are done in less than a day, since even most of the tricks are visible.
If you also take notice, some sections have even really bad plane skip issues and the logic of the car that goes down in the garage is quite crappy.

They're not to be considered showcases, they're level that you're FORCED to play to gain the use of the items.
A showcase should give me new ideas, using stuff in a different way than an average mind can think.
As rtm wisely says, those "showcases" would better be optional.

For some reason, I don't have the very first prize. Anyone willing to assist with a hint?

Thanks to a post from LBW (http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/The-Incredibles-Costumes-and-Level-Kit-8th-April/m-p/242098/highlight/true#M129935), prize #1 is behind this bush:-

http://i41.tinypic.com/2it3kzk.png

There was another argument over there as to whether the extra layer glitch was used at all, but so far no-one's found an example of where it's used.

One of the more interesting uses for the miner's drill came up in another post from LBW (http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/Thankyou-for-MM-underwater-propellers/td-p/242134), whereby attaching a few decorations to it, it can be easily made to look like a boat or airplane propeller. Obviously it won't provide any propulsion in its own right, but that's not really the point.

As you rush past on the monorail, the rocketship is also moving right on a piston - it's not fixed in place.

Really? I just took a closer look, and it doesn't seem to move at all.

I did notice that there are some trees in the front thin layer which move swiftly to the left as you go by, to create the effect that they're further in the foreground.

I'll have to take a look. Does it close again? If not then I'd guess dissolve.

They are indeed. If you remove the stickers, it's pretty clear.

Exactly what it is - you can see the jerking motion as it resets... *sigh* I will say no more

Ah, but your method relies on emitting DM on top of DM, which MM probably consider to be a 'glitch'. And we all know that MM would never use a glitch.

A showcase should give me new ideas, using stuff in a different way than an average mind can think. As rtm wisely says, those "showcases" would better be optional.

They actually call them all "gallery levels" according to the in-game descriptions, so I think that excuses them from having to conform to your definition of "showcase".

However, I agree they ought to be optional, although I also believe the same should apply to the prize bubbles in the main game, and the 'premium' level kits such as MGS and PotC.

WEll I jumped out of the monorail and it was there on the screen and then it zoomed off to the right. So unless I had a really bad rendering glitch or really bad glitch in my recollection (I can tell you which one is more likely ), then it moves. I doubt it moves for long though, so unless you jump out at the right time to catch it beginning to move then it would be very tough to see.

You're right in that we don't need the extra layer glitch to create a false sense of perspective, but it would be a bit hypocritical of them to say we shouldn't use the glitch, when they effectively use it all the time. Ditto for the material properties glitch, since they use that one too.
not really. if it is a glitch, then they haven't tested it for use in create mode, so they would be totally justified in removing it. i assume the way they make the backgrounds is rather different than a user's method, seeing as they actually model everything themselves. the 3d layers WE can use are undeniably weird and glitchy in the way they work.

back on topic, do want pack.

I used a different approach, which is to quickly jump out of the pod before the doors close when you first jump in. This allows you access the next section completely on foot.

All I did notice is, upon approaching the spaceship, there's a sudden camera zone change which might account for the behaviour you noticed.

If we assume for one second that I am right, and we further assume that the whole motion of the monorail and everything else is all explicitly timed by some offscreen logic.... Wouldn't the motion of the rocket in the background be complete by the time you got to it? So you would have no way of confirming either way using this method.

I'm happy to accept plenty of doubt, but I will swear that is what I saw!

D'oh!

I assumed it would be done on a sensor switch basis like the trees in the foreground, but it seems to have been timed as you suggest. I also notice they've done a similar thing with some of the other background pieces in that section.

Neat trick tho'. Combined with the trees which move swiftly to the left as you go past, I'm not surprised there was so much confusion as to whether this was a layer cheat or not.

I just did what Aya said, and jumped out. Sure enough, it was already at the end of the open section of track when I got there.

...but, I believe Rich is right. It does seem to move with the monorail cart when you are actually inside of it.

...and Aya snuck in there.

Well, it depends what kind of level you're working on. I think the stickers are too specific, and not generic enough to be used anywhere (exactly like the background, and even maybe the new music).

However, I think some materials are worthwhile, such the bricks or the simple metal (these one are pretty useful to make urban levels). I think the radio stickers would be interesting too, if you intented to make a car interior with a first person point of view I'm not really disappointed, because I'm working on a level that will requiere several things of this pack, but I'm not you

Ok, so for those who have got the new Incerdibles DLC in which you get the stickers and the materials etc...ok its problably just me...

but have you guys noticed there is a section in the level, where theres this street, and at first glimpse you say, "this is 3D", but you look closely at its not, its some sticker or photo or something, but it looks so real..... so i came to the conclusion that....

The only way that photo,( if it was a photo) could have been taken by MM was if they actually made it in 3D, its obvious,.. so despite that the 3D is a glitch, do you think MM is somehow growing rather Fond of the 3D glitch? I mean alot of people are scared if it gets removed or fixed but...

Judging by that^ what i just saw, maybe, somehow..MM is having a change of heart or something, so do you guys think the famous 3D glitch will end up being a tool, or capability?

Sorry, for the double post but i just wanted to say...

With so many crazy and beautiful levels in 3D out there, im pretty sure MM will reconsider making 3D possible instead of just some glitch we have for the time being...

They definitely didn't use any glitches. It wasn't just 1 sticker, it was a whole load of stickers placed perfectly to create an illusion. And I have to say, for a while I really believed they used it on those lights. Turns out they were just really small .2010-04-14 16:07:00

Hey, it's Will.

I recently bought the new Incredibles Pack off the store with some extra spending money, I can tell you honestly the contents are pretty awesome (like the drill and monorail pod), but it wasn't what I was expecting. I expected a whole series of levels just like the Pirates of the Caribbean Pack, but ohwell, I can't blame the guys at MediaMolecule! They must be hell'a busy with all these suggestions and the server being all load stressed.

Did you expect the same? Just wondering, peace!

Maybe you should have read the contents of the pack before buying it... my friend did a similar thing, he bought the Pirates of the Caribbean pack without releasing it had water .

I liked it simply because of the drill, and some of the materials...

Also, this is in the wrong section.

Moved to Everything Else LittleBigPlanet.

Hm, I'd have thought this topic already existed, but it appears not. At any rate, you can't place blame on Media Molecule for you thinking this was a level pack. They advertised it as a Level Kit and not a Level Pack. That said, I really like the content from the pack, even if I haven't fully played with all the goodies.

The best things for me are the new materials and decorations. It would have been nice to have some new sound objects too though. Even with all the DLC ones it's still difficult to find the right sound a lot of the time.

Can't really see any use for the background though unless you're making an 'Edna Mode's Home' level ! Even then the scale of it is way too big. I thought about putting steps in where the steps are in the background but they're just far too big for sackboy to jump up.

Probably because it was in the Official News section.

Merged into that thread.

They advertised it as a Level Kit and not a Level Pack.

The ones with levels you can play are advertised as "Premium Level Kit" or "Premium Level Pack" - I forget which, but it's the presence of the word "premium" which is important, whereas "kit" and "pack" are often used interchangably.

A bit daft, but, meh...

That is the question...

I've not been the biggest fan of the design behind the Mm's gallery levels... downright boring to down-right ugly are generally my feelings... With the Incredibles Pak, I really felt as if Mm went out of their way to make this gallery, a happening!

The ice slide was a nifty bit, and garage door made me jealous! The monorails section with its faux-perspective using differing speeds on different layers, camera angle and timing... inspired! It could really call into question if- with more thought, is the bakscratch glitch necessary?

However, I found the forced perspective of the city street very 'corny' and it instantly reconfirmed my belief in the 3D glitch. Still better design than I've come to expect on these types of levels. All in all, it was worth my time... The History Pak was the killer for me!

I'm not sure either case though can be seen as an official 'comment' on the glitch though. Im not sure they care tbh.

Ok i noticed that in the incredibles pack level, where there is a part where you have to go in that white circle thing and then you will cross a bridge, you can clearly see buildings put in the background (back layers). They're not part of the background its clearly materials in the back the same way than with the 3d glitch. The vehicle will go very fast so you will only see it for about 5 seconds..
Also another thing i noticed in the same level is that there are materials that are supposed to be grabbable but aren't. The grass (green material) on the ground is not grabbable on some parts but on some parts it is..
I know that MM has tools that we haven't but does that mean MM has 3D as a normal tool? Maybe they will make a dlc of it???

They don't use ANY glitches in ANY of their levels. They used illusions to make something look 3D when it's not.

And looks like yet another thread to be merged with the main thread about this..

EDIT: I was negative repped for this post for being rude, I just want to say, I wasn't trying to be rude. I'm sorry it seemed that way, but to me, this post certainly didn't seem rude...

It actually is 3d. You can see they are clearly materials so it can't be part of the background, i know some people thought the clouds in the creator pack were materials but they arent, but this are clearly materials... also they are way too far away to be part of the normal standard layers..
I know its weird to see a game creator use a glitch on their own game therefore i thought they had 3d as a tool but i could be mistaking

No it's not. They do exist in the normal playable layers, but there is more than that.

The background and foreground that you believe to be glitch layers are in fact moving to give the illusion of depth and perspective. IT's all very simple and has been well covered on the main thread for the incredibles pack (which apparently we have now been moved to)

Also please don't call them 3D layers, it makes you sound like an eejit. And it's highly annoying.

They use a fixed cam at that point which helps create the illusion of depth. They drew the shapes and added perspective and shading which adds to the 3d look. But look as you walk past the area and the cam zooms back out it looks flat as a pancake. The lights being the only bit sticking out near the top.2010-04-14 19:55:00
