The Complete Guide to Secret Materials and Stickers

Archive: 358 posts

Secret items are the things that Media Molecule don't give you. Some of these materials resemble glitched materials with swapped properties but if Media Molecule used them, why can't we? Some of these are real patterned proper materials and the stickers are the real deal too. There are many members of the community out there that don't know about these hidden gems so I've started up this thread to categorize and store information about all the secret stickers and materials out there and how to get them, seeing as it's pretty hard to find out about all the secret creation goodies from just one place.

This now includes objects by popular demand.

Big shout out to ViniciusBR11 for the brilliant pictures of the materials!

Extra:

The Complete Level to Secret Materials and Stickers is out now! It contains the majority of the materials featured here (even the non-editable ones like lava), all the stickers, decorations and objects. So, if you need a material, or even all of them, just copy the level to your moon and save what you want. It's that easy!

Materials

Here are just some of the secret materials. Includes an editable field to tell if the material is either smearable (drag and draw), drawable (place and then place again and also corner editable), or not editable at all.

Some materials use this method (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23421-Cardboard-wood-aka-cream-wood-make-any-shape-you-want-with-it&highlight=cardboard+wood) to make them editable (I'll refer to it as the Bomb Method).

Another handy method to know is the Cookie Cutter Method, where you make a cutter out of a material (just a shape cut out of a large block of material, such as wood) and copy and paste it into the material you want a shape of. Then, delete the cutter and the outside material leaving a shape of material behind.

Unique Materials

These materials are unique and are "true" secret materials. They have a factor, such as texture or a special property, which makes them unique. They cannot be created or reproduced by any means and can only be obtained through the story objects and templates.

Where is it: On the wobbly platforms from the Islands theme.
How to get it: Turn everything (excluding the fan as it cannot be material changed) into dissolve and dissolve these pieces. Take the stickers off the fan.
Limitations: None. The fan acts like a normal thin layered object.

Tweakable Laser
What is it: An MGS laser that's tweakable just like a normal light. It can also be turned on and off.
Where is it: In the Super Sentry Turret from the MGS Pack.
How to get it: Extracting the lasers is a tricky business and is difficult to explain in writing. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oXjczfW700&annotation_id=annotation_519347&feature=iv) is a link to a video by yonisyuumei, creator of the Virus Survival level, and how to extract the laser after the Cornish Yarg update (the video also tells you how to make the fantastic wavy laser effect in yonisyuumei's level).
Limitations: None really, only that it can only be hooked up to a magnetic key switch.
Picture:
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/8002/tweaklight.png

Super Fast Emitter
What is it: An emitter with the frequency of 0.0.
Where is it: On the bubble dispenser from the MGS Pack, the Grab-Bridge from the Temples theme, the Mechanical Magic Bridge from the Temples theme and the Large Magic Bridge from the Temples theme.
How to get it: Simply save the object to the My Objects section and place it. The emitter will become detachable.
Limitations: None. The emitter acts like a normal emitter (except it has a different setting).
Picture:
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6112/emmiter.png

Infinite Emitter
What is it: An emitter with the frequency of infinite.
Where is it: On the jumping tank vehicle from the Wilderness theme.
How to get it: Simply save the object to the My Objects section and place it. The emitter will become detachable.
Limitations: None. The emitter acts like a normal emitter (except it has a different setting).
Picture:
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6112/emmiter.png

Faster Motor Bolt
What is it: A motor bolt that goes at 80 instead of 60.
Where is it: On the Large Wooden Steed story character.
How to get it: To my knowledge you can't. The copy method or any other method I know of works.
Limitations: Check above. Anyone who knows how to get this bolt, please say!
Note:It is possible to just obtain the cotton reel with the bolt attached by dissolving the rest of the Large Wooden Steed and use the reel on your own creation.

Bolted 2-Way Switch
What is it: A 2-Way switch with a bolt on the lever's joint. Allows you to tweak the lever's stiffness setting.
Where is it: On the Raising Steps obstacle object from the Canyons theme.
How to get it: Dissolve everything except the switch.
Limitations: None. The switch acts as normal, unless you tweak the bolt.
Picture:
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/2190/2waybolt.png

Bolted 3-Way Switch
What is it: A 3-Way switch with a sprung bolt on the lever's joint. Allows you to tweak the lever's stiffness and direction settings.
Where is it: On the Mechanical Magic Bridge obstacle object from the Temples theme.
How to get it: Dissolve everything except the switch.
Limitations: None. The switch acts as normal, unless you tweak the bolt.
Picture:
http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/3940/3waybolt.png

Short Based 2-Way Switch
What is it: A 2-Way switch with a short base.
Where is it: On the Grabbing Machine object from the Metropolis theme.
How to get it: Dissolve everything except the switches. Crush the 3-Way switch
Limitations: None. The switch acts as normal.

Short Based 3-Way Switch
What is it: A 3-Way switch with a short base.
Where is it: On the Grabbing Machine object from the Metropolis theme.
How to get it: Dissolve everything except the switches. Crush the 2-Way switch
Limitations: None. The switch acts as normal.

1 Layered Wheels
What is it: 2 wheels on 1 layer.
Where is it: On the Rollerskate object from the Metropolis theme.
How to get it: Crush the top half of the Rollerskate object and one of the two sets of wheels.
Limitations: None.

2 Layered Wheels
What is it: 2 wheels on 2 layers.
Where is it: On the Skateboard object from the Gardens theme.
How to get it Crush the top half of the Skateboard object and one of the two sets of wheels.
Limitations: None.

Silent Sound Object
What is it: A silent sound object. Can silence an impact or make a silent disappearance.
Where is it: In your Popit.
How to get it: In the musical sound object, select the e-drum hi-hat. Shift the modifier 4 notches to the right with the d-pad. It will become silent.
Limitations: None.

There's cardboard something in the MGS pack... I think one of the mechs is made out of some cardboard gekko-style material? Not sure.

I wonder why they didn't give us some of this stuff. On purpose? By accident?

I kinda made a thread like this, but the secret materials part as a suptopic. If you said it was ok, maybe I should remove my hidden materials list and just put a link to this thread?

The thread is called "The Small Things in LBP", there's a link in my signature.

Maybe you should mention the cookie cutter method, where you enlarge an object, create a "cookie cutter" (an object with a square hole in it), press L3 to copy, then triangle over the object to cut out a little piece. It makes lava editable. At least, if it hasn't been patched yet, I used it a long time ago.

And I'd expect this sort of thread in the Tutorials section, maybe move it?

yeah, i forgot about that. i'll mention it in the top.

as for moving this, i thought it was fine here. made sense to me. but, now with all the how to obtain an material thing, it makes more sense if it was in tutorials.

we need some Mystic Mod Magic to move this thread.

Just FYI, there are a bunch of secret stickers and decorations, too. I know a monkey head sticker comes off of the flamingo story object. And you can get a secret orange flower decoration from the Giraffe story object.

Monkey head (note: I added the facial features):

I really don't understand why MM doesn't make these materials avaiable throught normal means... That Lava Material would be awesome for making Fire levels. And it should work like the Fire objects, it should burn you.

Uh... I expect a new Pack for these materials.

Could you organise the stickers into locations? (ex.4 subway stickers together)

While on the subway, I found another face, but it was a pink and yellow nun girl.
Another one is the basket ball from the "construction site" level.
And you can take off the stickers from the music boxes. (go party ghouls!)

This is useful. I could use most of these.

Also, Mm actually has a custom sticker in one of the temples levels. (I think it's the first one.)

It's hypnotic.

I didn't think they would actually use custom stickers, when they can just make real ones, but I was wrong!

also you forgot these stickers:

2. Indian Dancer - Stickered on some of the walls around Dancer's Court

these are all great! i'll check 'em out tomorrow just to see confirm them (no doubt you're right though) and i'll add them to the list.

thanks!

Late night last night just hunting through the pre-made story level set-ups... for some reason I thought the material in the beginning of the dojo level (piles of rubble) was a new material because I've never seen it before. I cut it up and saved it... totally smearable. But today I triple checked my pop-it and found out it was just the Basic Stone Material. ***Idiot!*** I scoured through the story items looking for that stupid orange circle before posting earlier and couldnt for the life of me remember where it came from. It was very random. I thought it was gonna be just another orange chick (orange chick like the bird, not like a female Oompa Loompa)

Lava Material
Material Type: Wood/Rubber

This is wood, not rubber, based on the noise it makes when it falls to the ground.

Green Floral Wood
Location: The Temples Template. It makes up small elephant heads on the walls.

Brown Floral Wood
Location: The Temple Template

As far as I can tell, these are just the Green Pattern Wood and Brown Pattern Wood you can pick up in prize bubbles, and are not 'secret' at all.

I've seen smearable lava in a patch icon for a glitch museum but the level didnt explain it, how on earth do you do it?

Extra restrictions on editing story mode objects were patched in some time ago - I'm not sure which patch it was. You'd have to uninstall the patch data to get this to work again.

Because of this, it's easier to pick all these up from someone who extracted these materials before the patch was put in place. Regardless of whether it's a prize bubble (community locked or not), or a copyable level, you can generally make them smearable by slicing the object into two pieces. One piece will be attributed to the original author, but the other will lose the association, and will be treated by the game as if you created it from scratch. It should be fairly obvious which is which, but otherwise you can capture both pieces and look at the "Created By" info.

Update: Also, after testing, it seems as if the "bomb method" is just a variation of this technique. It's only necessary to split the object into two pieces - after capturing, one of the pieces will be editable and the other will not. There's no guarantee that the smaller of the two pieces will be the one which is editable.

i know but it has curved edges and smears like rubber.

i literally just realized that. i was scrolling through the wood section of my popit and i saw them. i thought they were secret because in many levels that showcase secret materials they seem to be under the illusion that they are secret.
but thanks for the heads up anyway!

There are many hidden materials in the templates, most of which have not been mentioned anywhere-
At some point I will write up a few of them and there differences (many are combinations of DM and other materials).

i've been tearing up the templates looking for these. i've found anti grav woods, non slip glass and anti grav sponge. i'll post them in the list soon.

if you find any more, please tell me where they are! i'm putting samples of these in a level for creators to use.

you can grab it?!?! i'll check it again...

the list has been majorly updated with 6 new secret materials plus a few more stickers. hopefully (fingers crossed!) there will be a level containing smearable samples of most of the materials and a board of secret stickers coming out soon!

just a quick question: anyone know where to find these secret stickers-

Smiley Tongue (like a big smile with a tongue sticking out of the corner)
Red Cardboard Skyscraper sticker

anyone who knows, please leave a post to tell me which story levels they're in!

also, has anyone got any editable lipped grey rusty metal and/or wood sponge? probably a long shot but i might as well ask. anyone who has, leave a comment below.

thanks!

Cardboard Wood

This is actually Basic Cardboard material-glitched to look like Beige Wood. I just rolled back LBP to v1.02, and I can create a smearable version, which when merged into the Frida, makes that version smearable too.

Wood Sponge

This also seems to be a simple material-glitched material, so I can make a smearable version of this too.

Lipped Grey Rusty Metal

I can make an editable version of this, but not a smearable version. The distinction seems to be that any material which is harvested from an MM object (or any user-captured object) which contains any decorations is impossible to make smearable.

seriously? you can make those editable and smearable? please do it! there is no way you can do it now and i'd really appreciate it if you could send me those materials editable. i was wondering if anyone was able to do it and it looks like you can!

please make these!

PS could you do the same for cardboard sponge? or is that not glitched in a way that you can make it editable?

seriously? you can make those editable and smearable?

I'm not sure which version it changed in, but prior to version X, any story mode object's materials could be made editable by dissolving it away from its other parts, and if that object didn't contain any decorations, it was also possible to make smearable, hence the existence of smearable lava samples - I can create this too.

After version X, story mode object's materials are only possible to make editable using the bomb method, which rules out anything not destroyable by bombs. However, the rules on making smearable stay the same.

could you do the same for cardboard sponge? or is that not glitched in a way that you can make it editable?

It's already editable in the latest version, it's just not possible to make smearable (as far I can can tell) in any version of LBP, because it came from an object which contained decorations. If you can find any of these materials in objects which don't contain any decorations, then those can be made smearable.

Anyways. I shall be publishing all this (and more) in copyable levels soon.

Hit a bit of a snag when I updated. The lipped rusted metal became uneditable, but I think it's because it was created with a copied save, and the ownership info is the problem. I'm trying again, but stripping the ownership info this time.

Everything else kinda worked, except there some issue with editability after capturing that I can't figure out. I'm trying to work out what went wrong.

I doubt I'll be publishing this that soon, so if you want to pick these up sooner, then send me a friend request, and join me in OC.

I got another secret material. It is the Sponge Gekko Armour Plating. It has The same audios and visuals of the Normal Gekko Armour Plating, but is grabable and have the same weight of the Sponge.
It can be located in the foot of the Launcher of the MGS pack.
Later i'll update here a photo of where it exatcly is.
Oh, and i will make some photos to make this topic more cool xD

I think you mean sponge gekko skin. It's the dark material that's considered a metal even though it sounds like rubber, right? With the honeycomb pattern on it? That's the one I found in the sackboy cannon, so I assume that's what you meant unless you were talking about something else.

Found another glitch. It's not exactly a material, but I don't think it's significant enough to create a new thread about it. The Port Royal House has a fairy light in it that can be separated from the light source. Meaning, the light object can be one place and the glow can be somewhere else. What you do is turn all the parts into dissolve except the large base section, and dissolve them. The light will fall but the glow will stay. The glow is stuck to the base, so if you move it, the glow goes with it: you can place it anywhere in your level you want. If you crush the base, the glow disappears, but if you turn it to dissolve and kill it, the glow stays where it was (you can't move it after the base is gone).

And the best part: it's tweakable! You can adjust the color, brightness and radius and make it foggy or not by tweaking the fairy light (you can put the fairy light pretty much anywhere you want and if you don't want to tweak it any more, you can crush it). You can hook a switch to the light and have it turn on and off. If you want to get fancy, you can change the base to dissolve and bomb it down to a little sliver: it seems that as long as a piece survives, the glow will stay stuck to it (if you bomb it into multiple pieces, the glow will only stick to one of them). Then you could stick that sliver on a moving contraption and your glow will move with it.

The downside is that the glow is in the layer in front of the base, so you can only place it in the front or middle layers, unless you use the 3d glitch--I haven't tried 3d glitching it, but I have been able to capture and place the object and light so I imagine the 3d glitch would work fine unless lights don't glow in the back layers.

Anyway, I thought that was cool and worth sharing. I'm sure somebody can find a use for a sourceless light that can move and turn on/off.

[edit] Got another one! Start with the spiked wheel thing from the potc pack. Turn everything into dissolve and trigger it so all you've got left is the spikes. Hit pause and drag your selection box over it: you should see the spike objects AND some invisible triangles (they'll hi-lite when you drag the box around them). These are the sharp parts of the spikes. Move them away from the spike objects and you can walk right through them (the spikes) but the invisible triangles will kill you. Now set one triangle aside and crush all the rest of them and the spikes. You can then capture the invisible triangle and use it to make invisible sharp objects. Or you can glue them around your own objects such as swords or whatever, or you can get really fancy and use the compression tool (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24434-Merging-Objects-or-Materials-aka-Compression-Tool) to make them actually overlap the objects you want to make sharp.

Note that it used to be possible to do this with Oni: you could separate the sharp part of his knife from the rest and capture it separately. I've tried doing it recently and couldn't get it to work, but invisible spikes are just as good.

[edit again] Aaaaaaand another one. This is the same as the port royal house, but it's for the ruined fort. Dissolve everything except the front thin layer in the middle (where the torches are) and remove the torch and leaf decos. Bomb the thin layer until you free the leds from it (but don't destroy it completely). Same thing as the other: the leds leave the wall, but the glow stays there. You can't separate the two glows (or at least I couldn't: maybe you'll have better luck?) but you can turn the brightness on one of the leds all the way down to get it to where you only have one light. Other than that, it's no different from the port royal house except that the glow is in the same thin layer as the wall, so you can move it to any thin layer you want.

Yeah, maybe I'll give them their own thread. Turns out the spikes are near useless: they REALLY don't like to be glued to anything. You can glue one of them to an object, but as soon as you glue anything else to that object, the spike will unglue. I suppose you could make some invisible walk-thru material (killed by creature brain) use it to wrap the spike and then glue it to whatever... but that's a lot of trouble to go through.

I've already used the light trick. A character I made just didn't seem to get enough light on her face to really let you see it, so I gave her a subtle sourceless light to bring it out.

Back on the thread's topic, I couldn't seem to make the sponge gekko skin smearable. Not a big deal since I rarely smear things anyway. Still, wondering if there was anything special that needed to be done. I'm pretty sure I cleaned off all the stickers from the bombs, but I still couldn't get it to work. I haven't tried making it theck or thack, but I'm betting it won't work: I couldn't get the cardboard gekko armor to go theck or thack.

I think you mean sponge gekko skin.

Yeah. I was gonna mention this, but I couldn't remember the proper name. I thought it was called Gekko Snakeskin or somesuch.

The Port Royal House has a fairy light in it that can be separated from the light source. Meaning, the light object can be one place and the glow can be somewhere else.

I think I found this before too, but wasn't sure what use it would be.

Aaaaaaand another one.

I suspect if you go systematically through all the MM objects, there's still loads waiting to be discovered.

I was just looking through clarkdef's copyable level, and he seems to have a whole bunch of secret materials from various places which I haven't seen before - problem is, I don't know where they're from.

Some of them might've been made with the material properties glitch, however. Difficult to tell with the cardbard-looking materials.

Anyway. I'll check through them today to see which ones I don't already have. Personally I'm not too bothered if they came from MM objects/templates or the material glitch, as long as they're unique.

I couldn't seem to make the sponge gekko skin smearable.

I've become quite an expert at doing this sort of thing lately. Try this:

Dissolve enough to separate the piece you want.
Copy and paste that piece, then delete the original object.
Split the copy into two halves using a line of bombs.
Use the corner editor to determine which of the two pieces is editable, and delete the one that isn't.
Use the corner edtior, or paste copies on top of itself, to bring out the edges of the remaining piece to reveal all the hidden explosion stickers.
Delete all the stickers.
Should now be smearable.

That method works on anything which is destroyable by bombs, but only when the object it came from didn't contain any decorations.

Yep. It is indeed from the Canyons template. Just found a cactus with the static properties of DM, but the grabbable properties of sponge.

So I could retro-glitch all materials to have this property. What might be more useful is a non-static grabbable material which can't be destroyed by bombs, but you'd have to find one first.

Note that the grabbable anti-grav version can be made smearable if you remove the stickers from it.

I couldn't actually find the stickers, so I either didn't look very hard, or they're beyond the bounds of the object. Either way, simply placing 100 new stickers on the object, then deleting them all gets rid of whatever was on there, at which point it becomes smearable.

Doh! For some reason I thought just grabbing it and expanding it would reveal the other stickers and when it didn't, I assumed there weren't any more. Copied and pasted until I found 'em all and it's smearable now. Can't believe I made that mistake: I resize stuff with stickers all the time and I know the stickers just resize with it. I just didn't realize it was possible for a material to have stickers on it that were that far away from the actual object (I had to make it huge before I found the offending stickers).

I haven't found a material, but I did manage to get an invisible fist from the male doll arm: it's grabbable and indestructible (well, it's indestructible to bombs). Doesn't fit under the material's category, so it's not really pertinent to this thread, I guess, but you could use the emitter or compressor overlap tricks to insert it into an indestructible material.

I think something like this just came up in another thread. What I'm looking for is materials with unique properties, which I can then material glitch to look like every other material type. So far I've found:

The 12 basic materials
Lava (which although it seems to be very much like wood, it oddly has no impact noise when glitched)
The glass from the bank windows in the canyons template which has a score bubble impact noise
The grabbable static material used in one of the cacti in the canyons template

Some of the MGS and PotC materials have unique properties if only in terms of impact noises, but, of course, they can't be accessed when rolling back to 1.02. I haven't checked all of the story mode materials to see if any of those have unique properties. It's also possible that, like the lava, some of them may have unusual properties only after having been glitched.

Edit: Just checked all the story materials. Oddities are:-

Disco Metal has a glass impact noise.
Tin Foil has a unique impact noise.
Barbed Wire and Rusty Metal Grill share a unique impact noise.

Everything else is pretty much as you'd expect.

same. like you said, there needs to be more unique materials out there. the anti-grav grabby sponge proves that there are most likely other materials out there that have a properties combo. i wouldn't be surprised if there was slippy floaty taxi metal found in the metropolis theme.

There's the emitter with a 0.0 frequency on the mgs bubble emitter object. It can be copied/pasted onto your own objects, but then you can't remove it through normal means (you have to cut a chunk out of the material).2010-04-20 21:49:00

oh yeah, i found another material to add to the list. i found it whilst mucking around with some story objects.

@waD_Delma

absolutely correct! those switches are pretty useful. added them to the list.

I found a way to get an invisible, grabbable, and indestructible fist from the male doll arm. I'm not exactly sure what's the easiest method to get it, but I glued a block of dark matter to the shoulder, and ran a string from the fist to another block of dm. With the compression tool (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24434-Merging-Objects-or-Materials-aka-Compression-Tool) out, I grabbed the string block and moved it around, pulling on the string until the forearm broke, at which point the shoulder was still glued to its dm and the fist was still strung to its dm, but was invisible.

It's not the most useful glitch, but you could use the compression tool to glue the invisible fist inside an indestructible material and you'd have a material that's grabbable and indestructible but movable (unlike the glitched grabbable dm sponge stuff).

This probably isn't exactly what you're looking for, but there was talk of trying to make a material grabbable and indestructible earlier. This is a workaround, but it may be the best solution for that particular problem.

[edit] By indestructible, I mean it can't be blown up by bombs. Obviously, it can still be crushed by enough weight.

The material to the immediate left of the Islands template (egg shaped, looks like dark wood) is Cardboard. More cardboard wood!

How do you get the Wood Sponge to become editable, like Lava material? I couldn't find a community level and would like to find out how to unlock them anyways.

wood sponge? you can't get it editable by any means in LBP today. Aya042 gave it to me smearable as he rolled back to a version of little big planet before the update which fixed the "cow" material property swap glitch. wood sponge is very much the patterned sponge glitched to act like wood. Aya glitched it this way so it was smearable. essentially, you cannot get wood sponge smearable, but you can get a glitched spongy wood which is. same thing though. i'm going to release a level soon with all the materials featured here as prizes. if you can't wait till then, add me as a friend and i'll slip you some editable wood sponge.

on a different subject, added a new material to the list. thanks to Josh_Of_Souls for showing it to me!

You forgot to add the dark cardboard wood I found. It looks like oak wood, and you cant see the cardboard border until you delete the light brown egg that is inside the dark brown egg. The dark brown egg -should- show a cardboard border and be explodable. Find it to the immediate left of the entrance to the Islands template. And cool! Polystyrene!2010-04-22 23:22:00

Dunno if it's been mentioned before, but the motorcycle object has a metal body that looks like cardboard. Not particularly useful, since you can't edit it and it's easy enough to find material glitched metal cardboard as a prize in a community level, but since you seem to be going for the most comprehensive list possible, I thought I'd mention it.2010-04-26 00:37:00

no, that's brilliant! doesn't matter if it's editable or not. like you said, this is going to be the most comprehensive list possible. i'll check it out later and add it to the list.

Thanks for this excellent guide.
I wonder if MM left some of these things for the specific reason of seeing if the community would find them. Obviously, some stickers and materials they may have simply forgotten to add. However, I just can't think of a reason why MM would create a pink monkey face sticker, use it on a FLAMINGO, and then not add it... O.o

Found a wierd one. Dunno' if it fits here, but there's an led with two switches connected to it on the hanging traffic light object. Essentially, it's an OR switch, but without the OR switch.

Also, the led in question always looks like it's on. Like if you turn the brightness all the way down or turn off the switch that connects to it, it still looks bright, but doesn't cast any light. Turn it back on and it casts light.

It also has a lipped rusty metal disc on it, but I think you already found that material.

[edit] Wierd behavior with the two switches. The light responds to whichever triggered last. If, for example, you turn on one switch, then turn on the second, then turn off either of them, it'll turn the light off.

yeah, MM do do weird things like that. they do it with sound objects usually. it would have been a handy feature to be able to hook up multiple switches like that. but i never noticed the weird behaviour.

There are sound objects with multiple switches? Any idea which objects have them.

To further elaborate on the led's behavior, I did a quick experiment where I changed one switch to a different color and set it to speed. Moving the key closer/further did indeed affect the brightness. If the other on/off switch is triggered, it immediately goes full bright, but if the speed switch's key moves again, it goes back to the speed setting.

I can't think of a use for this atm, but it does seem kinda' cool. Also, I've found a semi-reliable way to remove switches (maybe emitters and sound objects too: haven't tried yet) from Mm objects. I'll add it to my glitch tut in a little while if anybody is interested in it.

Not all that weird.

On the PSP version it's possible to connect multiple wires to the same object, and this is exactly the behaviour you get on that version, which is very useful for combining several one-shot switches. In other configurations (on/off, direction, speed), the behaviour you get is probably not something you'd ever want.

Interesting. I've never played the psp version: I figure it's just a scaled back version of the ps3 game and I hardly ever finish a level playing just one version of the game. I wonder why Mm would let you multi-switch on the psp but not the ps3.

and you have a way of removing switches? does it work with bolts?

No That was my first thought when I discovered the trick and I immediately tried it on the 80 speed motor bolt, but to no avail. I was able to get separate the spool from the steed with the bolt intact by bombing it (I tried dissolving the horse's body, but the bolt would disappear) but I couldn't remove the bolt from the spool. I figure if you really want an 80 speed bolt, you can use the compression tool to overlap the spool with whatever you actually want to spin that fast, but it doesn't look pretty. I did use the trick on the traffic light object to harvest the switches so I could place them into a logic network if I ever have a need for a two input led.

Anyway, I added the trick to my tutorial about sourceless lights and other tricks. It's at the end of the first post.

[edit] Found a new material for you. The wobbly tree from the gardens theme has green floral sponge in its base that seems to have the properties of wood (ungrabbable, unbombable and has wood sound). Note that this is the 3layer thick part, not the two hill parts which seem to be normal green floral sponge.

On the "Meerkat Mum & Scenery" object from the Savanna, activate the speech bubbles, you'll notice that they have pink text.

On the object "Tube Race Crusher 2" from the Wilderness, delethalize the fire, you'll see metal, but if you hit the metal, it sounds like wood, however it still acts like metal in weight.

Hey trip, did you notice the edit I added to my last post?

Found a new material for you.

This is semi-common knowledge. There's one other collected character with pink text iirc. I think it was grandmaster sensei, but I can't remember for sure.

If you open the speech bubble you'll see what looks like a string id (the speech is stored on the game disk somewhere, and this id points to it). Some of us speculated a while back that Mm might use a particular character sequence to denote pink text and that if we could find that string in their files, we might be able to find the sequence (for example, pink text might be bracketed: [{/#*PINK}] blah blah blah [{/#*/PINK]} <--that's a silly example, but you get the point). To my knowledge, nobody every found it though, if it exists at all.

but i did find cardboard version in story using my unique technique i showed trip!

as for the pink text, i won't add it. as cool as it is, it isn't really usable. unless, of course, you want a character to go on about their meerkat son. but if you copy the mouth off of stripy tail and stick it to him multiple times in pause mode, when you un-pause, stripy tails fly everywhere!

Grabbable Anti-Grav Green Stripes Fabric
Editable: Drawable

This actually becomes smearable if you place a sticker on it, then delete the sticker. Not sure why this works, but there ya go.

Was unable to make this smearable, which is odd, so I've sent you a smearable sample made with the cow glitch.

This may well be smearable after using the bomb method, but I've sent a smearable sample made with the cow glitch.

Grabbable Cardboard Polystyrene
Editable: Drawable (after using the Bomb Method).

This is actually smearable after using the bomb method. I've sent a smearable sample that I made with this method, as this isn't possible to reproduce with the cow glitch. Sadly I don't think that cow-glitching this one will be any use (unlike the grabbable anti-grav cactus), as it will lose the cardboard border, so I'll get probably the same results as cow-glitching regular polystyrene. Still, I might try it out next time I roll back my LBP version.

hey : ) dont know whether you'll find this useful but I dont think anyone knows about it XD anywho on the islands template if you fly up to one of the towers (i think its the one where youd normally float down on balloons) if you select a certain 'Canvas' material, copy it and paste it somewhere else you get a new material! Well, its the Canvas material without the border. Its weird cos Canvas is a Wood material yet the product is a Cardboard! Hope this helps your great collection

P.S. I asked my mum what to call it and she said 'White Melanin' XD Dont know if you wanna use that name?

It has a nice ring but... um... wouldn't it be better to give it a name that describes what it is?

I wonder if you use the material properties glitch to make cardboard wood screen, if it would similarly get rid of the border. Or replace the wood border with the cardboard ridge you normally get when you mat glitch anything into cardboard.

Found it. It's the first tall tower you come to. The sections look like normal illuminated screen, but like Hallm3 said, if you copy one and paste it, instead of the wooden border, it has the cardboard ridge. It's probably exactly what you'd get if you mat glitched illum screen into cardboard. Also, the big round thing immediately to the left of the start checkpoint has a genuine wood center, but the outside edge is dark wood cardboard. Like any other mat glitched cardboard, if you break off a chunk and start editing it, the cardboard ridge shows up.2010-05-05 00:37:00

Confirmed. It's an oddity with the material properties glitch that when you change cardboard to look like another material, initially it has the exact same look, but once copied/pasted, it gets the cardboard border.

The glitched version I have merges with the version in the template, so they're exactly the same as far as I can tell, which makes it simply a cardboard version of the Screen material from the Islands theme, or just "Cardboard Screen".

incorrect my dear watson!
most of materials i own used that glitch to make grabbable DM
but i did find cardboard version in story using my unique technique i showed trip!

it's how i got the metal cardboard from the bikes, also the smearable bubble glass from both the canyons and wedding

Yes, it'll LOOK like dark matter, but it won't behave like it and be grabbable at the same time!

At "The Islands" in the first level "Endurance Dojo": At the very beginning where the collector flys away and takes some sushi with him. This isn't real sushi and not a real chinese doll! There are just stickers.

http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/1268/sushistickers.jpg
But note: You have to be very quick to get them. The collector's speed is incredible! Lol

You don't need to be fast because you can easily pass activating sensor by swinging one of red lamps.

Those stickers don't have transparent backround so they aren't so marvelous.

Tweakable Laser
How to get it: Extracting the lasers is a tricky business and is difficult to explain in writing. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oXjczfW700&annotation_id=annotation_519347&feature=iv) is a link to a video by yonisyuumei, creator of the Virus Survival level, and how to extract the laser after the Cornish Yarg update (the video also tells you how to make the fantastic wavy laser effect in yonisyuumei's level).

Bah. Wish I'd've come across this earlier. I was convinced this was no longer possible since... actually I thought it was changed in Leerdammer, but looks like it was actually Cornish Yarg. I discovered this video independantly via another post (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=10988-Extracting-Tweakable-Lasers-in-Cornish-Yarg-Creating-a-Laser-Wave&p=192799#post192799) which I came across when looking for the most popular tutorial posts (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26372-Tutorial-Spotlight&p=459171#post459171).

However, something else useful comes up in that video which has an impact on these...

Super Fast Emitter
How to get it: Simply copy it with L3 and place it where ever.
Limitations: Once placed, it can't be removed. The only way to get rid of it is to cut out a little bit of the material behind it.

Infinite Emitter
How to get it: Simply copy it with L3 and place it where ever.
Limitations: Once placed, it can't be removed. The only way to get rid of it is to cut out a little bit of the material behind it.

...which is that, if you simply capture the whole MM object first, then place down the captured version, you can remove these in the usual way, i.e. select with X, then press triangle to detach. So this bypasses the 'limitations' which you've specified.

Same technique works in other cases, e.g. removing stickered magic mouths from MM objects. Quite amusing seeing the Queen's cheesy grin when you remove the red-stickered magic mouth from it.

@smelling cowboy

i have the hot flower in the list, just under a different name. thanks for it though! (might actually rename it now...)

also, i knew about my advice but i didn't know if i should add it. thinking about it, it is the most hidden of all the stickers.

me again again XD i just found a hidden sticker by accident lol On the Goddess' Chamber Story Item (I think thats what its called) The one which has that hypnotic sticker on it? Anyway if you remove the yellow border round the outside of the circular hole on the front piece of wood, its actually a circle sticker. Its a much more natural, slightly darker yellow colour than the quite garish shade in the Colour section of your stickers! Just thought I'd let you know : )2010-05-09 16:09:00

Beta Cardboard Sponge (Can be found in the gardens object tower with the spinning thing)
Beta Cardboard Polystrene (can be found in the gardens bird. the cardboard is in is face) (to see the texture switch, make them thick)

Anti-Grav Basic Wood *
Description: Looks just like Basic Wood but defies the laws of gravity, like Dark Matter.
Material type: Dark Matter
Editable: Drawable
Location: The Canyons Template. It's inside the bank.
How to obtain it: Use the Cookie Cutter Method to cut out a section.

I never would have thought this was a hidden material, I found it while getting my non-slip glass quite a while ago.

I couldn't get it to become drawable, I couldn't even remove the stickers. :/

Stone Gold Metal
Description: Gold Metal with the properties of stone.
Material type: Stone
Editable: Smearable
Location: The Mechanical Stone Elephant object from the Temples theme.
How to obtain it: Dissolve and crush everything except the top platform which the player stands on. Capture it and place it. The sound object is now detachable. Detach it and stick it to something else. The platform is now corner editable. Use the corner editor to cut the platform in two. One of the two pieces will be smearable.

Would it be possible to do this with other things, like Spongeboard or Lava Material?

moved the red/white led into oddities.

changed lava material's category to lava, seeing as its attributes are unique.

The Complete Level to Secret Materials and Stickers is finally published!

It's not really a playable level, more a level you copy to your moon and capture what you need. No more blood, sweat and tears trying to get a material (unless you really like that sort of thing), just check into this new level!

It contains all the editable materials, stickers and usable objects from the list.

The level is on the South Pole of my planet so check it out!

bad me. didn't realise until afterwards i'd done that.

out of 50, about 9 are completely unique and unable to be reproduced because either they are an entirely different material, have a different property or a different texture/impact sound.

Could you categorize those 9 in one group? or categorize materials other way? Now it is hard to find materials that you cannot create.

EDIT: done. there are actually 11.

A few corrections:-

"Cardboard Gekko Armour Plating" and "Sponge Gekko Skin" can't be reproduced with the material properties glitch (since the MGS pack didn't come out till after it was patched), so they should be in the top section.
As for "Sponge Cardboard with Boarder" and "Polystyrene Cardboard with Boarder", if they look exactly the same as regular card, then they can be produced with the material properties glitch, and should be in the bottom section.
Also "boarder" should be "border", but since all cardboard materials have the cardboard border, then it's arguably redundant to add the "with border" suffix.

Also note my PS3 has just YLOD'd, so I won't be able to get you any editable samples till it's fixed (which could take up to a month).

thanks! i wouldn't know about the MGS materials. as for the borders, it's an odd one. the border doesn't move with the material when it's turned from thin to thick, meaning the border stretches across the top. it's barley visible when stickered and doesn't appear on the front. i need the "with border" part to distinguish it from another cardboard polystyrene.

oh, and sorry about the YLOD.

Sorry if this has been noted already but I didn?t see any posts about this one.
Here is something to add to the list... Bolt that acts like a slow/ weak Motor Bolt.

Object can be found in-- Metropolis
Bolt can be found on-- Scrap Car Lift
Location of the bolt-- It is use to attach both wheels
How to get it-- Dissolve everything but the wheels (metal circle) and the small metal square that it is attach to
What does it do-- The bolt turns which can you adjust w/tightness setting
Can you attach a switch to it-- No
Can it be used for anything-- Not sure?

Well there it is, it may not have any obvious uses but it is still needs to be noted.

I love the fact you never know what you might find when you Dissolve and Smash Mm stuff.
