LBPCentral Logic Pack!

The official LBPCentral Logic Pack is finally here! The LBPCentral Logic Pack is a three-tiered pack of LittleBigPlanet logic, designed and tested by some of the best Creators LittleBigPlanet has to offer. With an introduction, three huge content levels, and nine tutorials (each complete with their own individual companion level), this pack is the definitive LittleBigPlanet logic collection.

The tutorials for these packs are kept as threads exclusively on LBPCentral. To access these tutorials, head to the the matching Overview thread for the pack you're currently working on and find the links to the tutorials near the bottom. Each Overview thread contains a basic, well, overview of the content offered in that pack, including a summary of the logic included and links to each tutorial.

Beginner Pack Overview (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=329925#post329925)

Intermediate Pack Overview (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=329952#post329952)

Advanced Pack Overview (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=329986#post329986)

Regardless of your Creative skill level, the Logic Pack will help you to clearly and easily understand how logic works and, more importantly, how to use it in your own levels. Excited to check it out? Simply search @LogicPack using the in-game search function and you'll be brought directly to the Logic Pack levels!

For full details on what the Logic Pack is, click through for the rest of the article!

What's the purpose of the Logic Pack?
The Logic Pack was designed as a tool to bridge the gap between those who don't understand logic and those who do. We've noticed that gap isn't closing any faster than it was when LittleBigPlanet initially launched, so we're hoping to help by offering up a standard set of logic tools for Creators to use in their own levels.

What does the Logic Pack have to offer?
In order to bridge the gap between Creators, we've included lots of content, most of which is designed specifically for a certain skill level. The Logic Pack comes with:

Three main logic "packs": a Beginner Pack, an Intermediate Pack, and an Advanced Pack. Each pack contains a different set of logic aimed at a different Creative skill level. All of the logic is designed to be simple, useful, and thermo-efficient.
A demonstration level for each pack of logic, complete with individual demos for each logic tool.
A copyable "Logic Vault" for each pack, so that the player can store the logic on their moon for retrieval online or offline.
Three in-depth tutorials for each pack, complete with screenshots and a copyable companion level for each tutorial. That means nine total tutorials. Each tutorial can take anywhere from thirty minutes to two or more hours to complete, depending on the difficulty level.

Why not just wait until Mm releases an official Logic Pack?
Media Molecule has no plans to officially produce any logic-related content, now or any time in the future. The tools Creators have been able to design without official support are phenomenal, and the fact that they're designed with the in-game tools means they're also endlessly customizable. However, just to reassure you, Media Molecule has played the Logic Pack, and they love it so much that they've helped to promote it for us. If you'd like to read what they think, just read what they have to say in their official Logic Pack announcement article (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/11/13/learn-about-logic-take-a-tour-of-logictech/).

How do I get my hands on it?
As mentioned earlier, you can access this content simply by searching @LogicPack using the in-game search function. The tutorials, however, are hosted exclusively on LBPCentral (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=102) - you won't find them anywhere else!

The chase scene is 3.2 not 3.1, its not a big thing but it should be corrected really.

Nice, this should come in handy. Although I personally try to use as little logic as possible.

I've spread the word (http://www.littlebigland.com/little-big-planet-ps3/lbpcentral-logic-pack-now-available/) about it, by the way. Hope you don't mind.

Not trying to pat myself on the back or anything (ok yes am I am) but I called this on the second teaser 18th post here (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=325760&postcount=18). That's not saying much as I guessed every other possibility as well during the teaser period.

And the prize is... the same thing I got for doing a good job while in the Navy.

For those who don't know... the reward for doing a good job in the Navy is like having an accident in your Navy Blues. No one notices... but it gives you a warm feeling.

Thank you very much to all that sacrificed their own time to put this together. Thats what I like about LBP. So many people sacrificing their time and talent for the betterment of the community. LBPC community rocks!

So, what did any of this have to do with oranges, anyway?

I guess I can finally come clean now. I got to beta test this wonderful logic pack, and i have to say that this is a wonderful thing that these guys have done for us. As anyone who's worked with me in online create can confirm, I am quite terrible with logic, and something like this is a much needed addition to the game. I know it will help me out greatly.

The logic pack is awesome, quite simply put. The levels are clean, look better than media molecule's levels, and they're just so well thought out.

I posted something over at the mm blog, too, but congrats to all of you. These are some of the most well deserved crowns that I've ever encountered.

Oh, we noticed! You actually sent the Logic Pack Team into panic mode with your cunning detective skills! We still had three teasers left, so we had to try and throw people off of our trail, which meant ignoring your well thought out hypothesis and inventing some of our own! Comic Sack anyone?

I think if you look through the teaser threads, somewhere in the region of 50% of the posts are people who were "in the loop", attempting to undermine (or shout nonsense over the top of) anyone saying something accurate 2009-11-13 15:27:00

So, what did any of this have to do with oranges, anyway?

Ummmmm... Oranges are like sunshine... If you understand logic in LBP then you feel that warm glow like sunshine? Heck I dunno... it's tangy!?

I figured it out early on and then my suspicions were confirmed when I saw those on my friends list publishing as well as testing these. So rather than ruining any surprise for them, I just had fun with the citrus flavored adventure.

Yes, saying something accurate or "logical"

I'm good at shouting out nonsense, so no one really thought anything was weird, I guess.

@enodrawcab : Don't worry, those in the know did notice that you had hit the nail on the head.

I also want to congratulate all of the creators who made this project happen. Your dedication to the LBP community is admirable.

This is a great tool for creators big and small, and even I have learned a great deal more about using logic in LBP. I encourage everyone to give these levels a go, you'll be amazed at what you can learn!

@mrsupercomputer "comic sack" lol... I was like... uh... yeah I guess that could be a good idea... but a logic pack would be so much better. And I'm glad I could return the favor to you guys for all the anticipation anxiety you guys created with those teasers.

It took me forever to come up with a scientist/professor type person that was wearing a hard hat for my picture matchups to the teasers.

http://images.cheezburger.com/completestore/2009/11/11/129024275453458780.jpg

Now to try to figure out which pic goes with who... mrsupercomputer, comphermc, CuzFeeshe, rtm223, and ConfusedCartman.

@xkappazx Yes I did wonder... I was like... wow... for a teaser thread... these guys sure are going off topic. lol

You guys have provided me with a big smile that is hurting my face... reward enough!

Thank you all! ^_^

Well done guys and congrats.

This is something I've really really been needing for ages and I'll definitely be starting with the basic stuff. Thanks.

The only worry I have is the old 'profile won't save' issue. I'm already at the point of not being able to collect even a couple of stickers. I'm trying to make 'Sheriff Sack 2' but I can't make stuff for the level and keep it. I'm having to make stuff in the level and go into play mode to make sure it works ( having horrible thoughts of the 160 hour bug ) and then publish locked after each thing I make.

Here's hoping that sometime soon I'll actually be able to collect the 'Logic Packs'.

Haha, I don't think they match up to anyone in particular. They were just arbitrarily (and beautifully designed) by mrsupercomputer.

Five months!?! How did you survive!?!

I don't know! It was such a long time coming - I'm glad it's done. Would you all like me to write up something about the whole process behind this from start to finish? It was quite the adventure.

If you aren't able to capture them on your own (key issues, or otherwise), I can send some of the logic your way. Many of them, however, are easily made on your own. We break down specifically how each piece works in the level itself. Each logic showcase room is accompanied by an optional "more information" room, which goes further into detail. Kudos to CC for his completeness in this regard.

anyway, played the intro... tis great. Glad you're finally done- and especially glad CC finally got a crown XD

But yeah, I'll play these later... I hope this helps people with LBP logic and stuff, and all that... yay for all your hard work peoplez! XD

Woot woot!

... btw, I've been wondering this for a bit... does their work in this have anything to do with why mrsupercomputer and comphermc were made mods? comphermc was obvious anyway, but I thought that mrsupsercomputer got to be a mod after you working with him and trusting him with this... So, um, yeah ;o

ANYWAY... great job! woot for epic projects! Now I just need to finish mine xD <_>

You know what, If all you guys were a collective whole. I'd marry you.

Honestly.

By force if neccessery.

Seriously though, you all are wonderfull people. Well done.

I was a little wary about thanking your post - I didn't want to give you the wrong idea or anything. Still, thanks!

Yay! Bout time, I hated keeping this a secret... And thanks you-know-who for making me go near insane with this knowledges heheh <_>

anyway, played the intro...

Thanks! And, yes, it had a good deal to do with it. I got to spend a lot of time working with them: setting deadlines, cooperating and making collective decisions, and working out disagreements. I learned a lot about the kind of people they both are and their work ethic, and all of that interpersonal experience lent itself to making them staff here. The project basically showed me that I could work with them in that capacity and they'd do a good job.

And, I'm not knocking rtm or CCubbage in any way! They're both great guys, or I wouldn't have asked them to be a part of this. We just really want to avoid a "too many kings" situation, so that there's a balance between the community and the staff.

Well, when you are choosing your favourite, bear in mind that long distance relationships are far less likey to work out.

At what point does this get wrong? I never quite know where "inappropriate" lies...

Just played the four main levels and I'm about to get started on all the tutorials. I knew most of this stuff already, but there's deifnately some things that I've learned and probably that I'm still yet to learn.

Forgetting how useful all this is for a minute, I think you've done a fantastic job on the levels themselves. Never before have I seen any kind of tutorial levels as well made as these. The visual style is consistent ( and I like how each level flowed in the next with some form of transport, like the story levels). In fact if I hadn't known who made these, I would assume that Mm had done them themselves. The organisation and production of them just shows what the community can do.

Anyway, I'm off to go and spread the word.

It start getting inappropriate when you mention thrupnies....

And CompherMC..... so you don't get confused..... "I" am married to a girl. MrSuperComputer is married to a girl. Neither MrSuperComputer nor myself are girls, therefore we aren't married to each other.

Nuclearfish - Yup, they look great! Putting the heads of ConfusedCartman, CompherMC, and MrSuperComputer together for visuals was like sticking the Beatles together to make music. Awesome stuff!

Haha, I don't think they match up to anyone in particular. They were just arbitrarily (and beautifully designed) by mrsupercomputer.

The intermediary one reminded me of Southpark's Chef though...

Probably the most valuable thing I learned was to connect pistons to the top of the floor of elevators etc instead of connecting them to the bottom of the floor. Never thought of that. I always forget that connectors can go through walls.

I noticed this in Rtm's other work, too. Only now do I understand why.

Anyway, brilliant work, guys! The levels are great, but with all the tutorials on the site here, you did a huge amount of work!

Wait, that's weird... I will have to investigate once PSN starts working for me. It should work for you, as there's nothing in the level that is MGS related. I think this is the same issue that I've run into in the past, where once a level has MGS content in it, the same thinks it's there forever...

I dunno. Thanks for the kind words.

I played a few of these levels earlier today, I forget which one it was but I saw one of the levels on Page 1 of the Highest Rated which is quite an achievement. The few that I played ranged from pretty simple obvious tutorials to the more complicated things to make, I'll be visiting the levels in the coming to days to learn more.

Also, when playing one of the tutorial levels(think it was the Atmosphere one) the first thing I thought of was Basilisk Bog, at the time I didn't know who had created these levels but now that I do know I'm 99.9% sure it was mrsupercomputer, am I right?

I had fun swinging through that one watching the changes. It definately gave me some ideas - visuals have always been a bit hard for me.

So yes, I am once again grounded. I will play this though. Don't worry about that :kz:

Oh and I read some of the tutorials and they are VERY well thought out and executed perfectly! Great job all!

The first level I played of this pack was on the 1st Page of the Highest Rated, as I previously mentioned, after I was done playing it I went into the comments section and noticed that the level's first publish was over 20 days ago, which kinda surprised me as thought the obvious thing would be to completely republish the level to be able to get it onto the Cool Pages, this would ofcourse help even more people out and possibly bring in alot of new members.

This was a very calculated decision, don't worry. We chose to re-publish the Introduction level only, because we are aware of the track record of ratings a level hits Cool Pages. In this sense, the only traffic we expected to get to the subsequent levels would be through people who played the intro, and were excited about the next step. We were hoping the levels would do well, but frankly we're surprised that some of them were on the front page of Highest Rated. The Advanced Pack has since fallen back to page 3 of Highest Rated, but the Beginner and Intermediate Packs are hanging on to their front page position. The Introduction level is now on Page 3 of Cool Pages, and is the only level of the bunch without a 5 star rating, confirming our suspicions of the Cool Pages bunch.

In this way, the Intro level has taken one for the team, in order to get us some exposure. Each main level has now over 500 plays and a 5 star rating, so we figure it's a success any way you hack it. Thanks for the concern, though.

Edit: Mini Challenge. The first one to make their own version of either the chase scene or the Advanced Elevator Tutorial (with both tweaks) wins 250 xp. Those suckers took forever to write - you are going to learn something, dangit! First to do each one, gets the prize. 500 xp total. No copy and paste either - I'll know.

I personally started from the beginning - and while I understood all of the switches, having better-tested, more breakproof, manipulatable "prize switches" is gonna help me A LOT.

I also found it cool to play through the "tutorial companions". If I didn't understand exactly what I was looking at, then that told me to copy the level and come here for more info.

Revised PTDs, Toggles and switchers galore, a directional p-switch...this whole series made my day. Thanks again, guys.

There has been alot of new levels coming in to the Highest Rated pages these past few weeks, that's just the way it works, btw most of which don't even deserve their 5 Star rating. If anything, I would prefer to have these tutorial levels on the Highest Rated page than alot of the current Trophy and Racing levels, seriously.

To be honest, we made no additional efforts to make a run for highest rated. We had these levels all published for weeks, and all we did was unlock them. It's not us who decides the rating of the levels, but the community. The only level that was published anew was the intro, which has 4 stars.

Do you want us to delete the levels because the community decided to give them 5 stars? I would think not. If they are undeserving, they will go down of their own accord. As I said before,

Well, I already offered my kudos to you all, but that was based solely on the act and not on the content. I have since played all the tutorial levels, and the are simply brilliant. Elegant and professional in design, consistent, amusing, and entertaining. And the switches!! I consider myself a logic proficient creator (not expert, by any means), but some of the concepts you have brought to my attention are priceless. The randomizer, and toggles; the player tracker...

THANK YOU!!!

Now - on to the bad news... The vault for Intermediate is not copyable. I own the MGS DLC, and I get no COPY option in the menus for it.

EDIT: Oh and worry not for plays or hearts or ratings. What you have created is an altruistic masterpiece of design, workmanship, and utility. (did I mention... thank you?)

Try it now, I just fixed it. There was a problem with the vault before - it was saying that the MGS DLC was required to edit it even though it didn't have any MGS DLC in it - and to fix the problem, I had to copy the vault over into a new level and re-do the title, description, and icon. In the process, I forgot to make it copyable.

Yes, you are right. 3 of them are on page 1 highest right now. It is the community who decides, and i totaly agree with Endless Echo about the trophy, racing, stickers and other crap should get booted off. I also noticed 3 locked levels finally got bumped off page 1 too. By the way i did rate 5 also.

There are lots of things we could have added if we added everything we could think of, but instead we focused on providing a sort of "logic foundation" on which Creators could then build from. We wanted to keep this pack lean, and we did so by only offering the most important logic.

By the way, both of those concepts can be designed quite easily by networking a couple of our logic switches together. However, if you feel these are important to you, then go build it! We're not trying to make this pack seem like the "be-all and end-all" of logic - in fact, quite the opposite is true. We're hoping this pack will inspire Creators to create their own logic to meet their own needs, since that is an essential component to high-quality Creation.

The levels are all well polished, informative, and a wonderful demonstration of how logic can be used to make great levels even better. The additional tutorials are also an amazing addition to the community, giving players extra help in creating whatever crazy contraptions they can contrive. For a pack that is supposed to be accessible by everybody, why do you require the Metal Gear Solid pack for the Advanced Logic? Why not just create a level that contains the DLC-free logic, and another one that contains the logic that has MGS pack stuff in it? That way, people will have access to the DLC-free Advanced Logic Pack switches, and the ones WITH DLC will have access to extra switches 2009-11-14 10:49:00

Well done to all that was involved in the creation of this project, I learned quite a bit of new stuff! It was excellent how you people managed to make the levels fun by adding diagrams, and puzzles for people to complete (it wasn't just magic mouths.)

Judging by the popularity of the levels right now, I wouldn't be surprised if LBPC's number of members doubled in size

There was some discussion of this during development. The vast majority of creators have the MGS pack, so it was decided it was simpler to require it for the advanced pack. If you have a friend on the PSN maybe you could have them send you any objects you need separately?

Thanks for all the hard work guys, the crowns are most definitely deserved. The levels are all well polished, informative, and a wonderful demonstration of how logic can be used to make great levels even better. The additional tutorials are also an amazing addition to the community, giving players extra help in creating whatever crazy contraptions they can contrive. May this be the first of many wonderful LBPC collaborations to follow

Yeah, so ged to work on ours

lol... anyway, I played the beginner and it's three accompanying levels, and the intermediate level. andI must say wow. I finally understand, and it is kinda making me want to finally make my own level XD. Now I just need to think of what to base it off on

Anyway... thanks so much, you guys RAWK. You deserve more then those crowns, you all deserve peanuts :kz:

Dangit! Now you've got me THINKING again.

The elevator tutorial left me asking: what about a multi-floor elevator? I checked out the tutorial and realized you'd already given me the tools:

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=620&pictureid=8538

Those silly diagrams! Once I thought of a multi-floor elevator as a huge multi-input AND switch, the "Call Elevator Button" problem solved itself.

Thanks again, guys.

I have played all the levels, not going through the tutorials though might try them soon, and i managed to copy all three vaults to my moon with no profile overload, I was surprised, so i'm going to keep them on there because the profile increase is coming soon anyways.

I was just wondering though you guys are pretty much going to have to make at least a scaled down version for the PSP it would be great if you did that.

anyways thankyou to all of the team you must of worked incredibly hard and if what CCubbage shown me today wasn't enough i must say you must of grinded the skin off your thumbs to the bone.

Wow... this is fantastic! What an amazing project you have all come together on to offer to the community!! I've never been great with logic overall, but have learned a few tricks on my own (mostly with timing lights to music and creating loops with the music pieces given to us). Other than that, I'm really quite lost on most of it.

I'm looking forward to checking out your work later this evening or tomorrow and learning from the pro's in order that I can become a better creator because of your hard work.

Thanks so very much to mrsupercomputer, comphermc, CuzFeeshe, rtm223, and ConfusedCartman... as well as anyone else involved in the proect (including play testers).

For a pack that is supposed to be accessible by everybody, why do you require the Metal Gear Solid pack for the Advanced Logic? Why not just create a level that contains the DLC-free logic, and another one that contains the logic that has MGS pack stuff in it? That way, people will have access to the DLC-free Advanced Logic Pack switches, and the ones WITH DLC will have access to extra switches
Because the number of people who are unable to get the MGS Pack is so small, we didn't think it was worth it to fragment the logic in that way. As others have mentioned, you could just ask a friend to pop all of the non-DLC Advanced Pack logic into a copyable level for you.

Ok... I finally played these levels. I had to punch my sister in the face, get grounded, get ungrounded, attack my sister with a javelin, get grounded again, get ungrounded again just to play these but I did.

My honest opinion: These are some of the best levels out there. 100% deserve to be on highest rated. The atmosphere to the ease of learning in these levels just make them amazing. I literally couldn't get myself to not heart these.

I loved how they actually had a kind of story that you follow rather than a bunch of magic mouths placed everywhere like in a regular tutorial. Great!

Ahh, what else is there to say? I guess I will sum it up with one word.

FULLOFEPICWIN

Yes I had to make up that word for this. Very nice, well deserved crowns

Congratulations on producing a series of tutorials that are extremely well made with a lot of thought put into them. This is the type of thing that media molecule should have introduced a year ago. Hopefully this will put an end to the horrible jump, bomb, sinking floor ect levels.

your publishing strategy was also supurb. By only allowing the introduction level on the cool levels, you will be only attraction those who are interested in playing the tutorials, almost garenteeing a 5 star rating by those who play the levels, which concequently will make them easier to find by everyone in the long term on the highest rated as opposed to having them all on the cool levels and being rated down by people who play and have no interest in creating.

I loved the visuals and the easy to follow cutscene explinations. The gameplay was also very creative and enjoyable. Very similar to comphermc`s apature science series. I didnt learn anything new, but its always nice to know that im doing it correctly and efficiently. Well done again guys .

Hi,

I'm sure that some of you were aware of my initial thoughts on this project -.-

While I'm sure that my thoughts were not well received, does it really matter what one person thought personally?
In saying that though, it all falls back on this whole Objective vs. Subjective feedback debate.

I'll admit that these levels/tuts. are well worth the the time and effort spent on them.

But I do still stand by my initial thoughts too.

I played through these last night again by myself so I could take the time and read everything and play around a bit more without holding anyone up.

Amazingly well thought out. Quite a bit I knew already, but you still offered some elements for possible solutions to things I haven't really thought about yet! Kinda like having a wild card in my hand to play when the time comes.

The incredible packs, vaults, the tutorials online here at LBPC as well as the supporting tutorial levels online... wow. Amazing effort and it staggers me at how well thought out and cohesive it all was. ...Ahem... It's no wonder Mm was excited to share the news!!

I have never been one to get lost in logic or intimidated by it, but you have presented me some new ideas and twists to some things I have done as well as future elements that I can't wait to try.

Thanks so much!!

TBH, is there really much point? The majority of people using the PSP version will have the PS3 version too, it should be quite simple for most people to reproduce the stuff in PSPland.

But feel free to contribute to robotiod's buy rtm a PSP fund

Wow, GREAT idea..... I'll start building an example room! rtm223 should have the mechanism designed pretty quickly - he's pretty fast with flabbermongolian-based logic. The last one he designed only used a single piece of dark matter, a piece of string, and a skateboard.

Yeah, it's the teaser threads all over again! And this time there's nothing that needs hiding in a smoke screen. Or is there...?

Anyway, I'll get this back on topic: I was wondering about the timer mechanism in the randomizer: what is the reason for using two pistons? I have a similar device, and it uses an emitter for this purpose.

Ahem... The double piston arangement controls the speed of the wheel. You don't need 2 pistons, but in testing it certainly seemed to help with the randomisation of the sequence. The pistons should be set to be out of sync so follow a very long pattern. This pattern is then fed into the speed of the wheel.

The actual trigger of the randomiser's selection is just a 1-shot signal, so it can come from any source you like.

Ahhh, it's an issue of naming logic in LBP. I've found people give relatively arbitrary names to devices, which then get passed around a bit and become semi-technical terms, but quite often there's multiple names for the same thing and it all gets a bit confusing.

I'm sure when incinerator gets back and tells us what the switch does, everyone will have an "ahhhh, that's what you mean" moment

Lol, that's the issue. No one bothers to explain what they mean when they use the terms.

I can think of about 10 interpretations for the term "double grab" switch and for "multi-task" switch. They are just so generic.

Hmmmm... just guessing, but maybe a multi-task is a switch that can be used as a one-shot, a directional, and a on-off at the same time... but that would be way too simple. It would just be a piston extending a magnetic key to hit multiple magnetic switches at the same time...2009-11-17 19:45:00

No no no, I understand the two pistons in series. 1.3 and 2.7, takes a long time to repeat the exact same movement. I was talking about the two pistons left of those. But you say it's just one selection trigger, so what is the other one for? I'm going to have to examine this thing further...

Did you mean to the right? The vertical piston carries a green magnetic key, which when brought into range of the key switch of matching color, will dissolve the block away. This block serves two purposes. One, to actually seed the output - when a block is emitted, it triggers one of the 6 blue magnetic key switches. The emitters emit blocks that are identical except for the placement of the blue key. The other purpose is to prevent the other blocks from emitting.

When the vertical piston, which is flipper out, is triggered, it dissolves the block, as stated. Whichever of the 6 emitters is set to emit at that instant will be allowed to do so. The spinning wheel with keys determines which emitter is set to emit at that instant.

exactly, a quick grab can activate something else and can have up to at least 20 diff. tasks.

but im scared of explaining.. im a horrible explainer! lol

NON-PROOF READ:
BUT ill give it a shot: so there's like, a flat plus sign, made of wood. each end has a magnetic key switch of the same color that activates a certain... thing, or whatever you connect it to. in the center of the plus sign block, is a rotating bolt thing that makes it spin very fast. it is set so it's very weak, and so you can put something in the way of it to stop it from turning.

you then get a block of wood with the magnetic key-key, attach the block to a piston, and set the maximum length to the point where you can make it go in and out of the way of the plus-sign-block-thing. you make something grabbable and attach the grab switch to the piston on the direction setting. when you grab it, it moves back and away from the plus-sign-block thing and lets it move to the next key switch which activates something else in time for the block-piston-thing to come back and block the plus-sign-wood-thing from spinning - GAH i forgot what i was saying.

i dont know how to explain it in english, and i totally forgot how i had the object in the first place so i dont know of a level to recommend going to see it...

the double grab mech needs two really quick grabs to activate ONE thing, kinda like double clicking on a mouse. its a clever use of physics, shapes and emitters beyond what some bloke like me could explain in simple terms.

I understand what you're trying to say. The reason we didn't include something like this was, well, it's so rarely used. There are only a few cases (that I can think of) that would require such a feature. When deciding on what logic to include, two factors we took into account were a) how much that piece of logic would be used and b) how specific that logic is. In terms of a), if we felt the logic would end up by the wayside, unused by most people, then we cut it. When it comes to b), we considered how well that logic performed in multiple different types of situations. We asked ourselves: could it be applied in many different ways, or is it only useful for one (or two) very specific purpose(s)? If the answer was the latter, we didn't include it.

So to answer your inquiry more briefly: We only included the types that met our standards, which helped focus the pack and make it more approachable. Because of that design philosophy, there's a ton of logic we didn't include. The point of this pack, as mentioned before, isn't to function as a one-hundred-percent comprehensive logic collection - rather, we aimed to provide Creators with a set of the most useful logic that exists, so that there would be a very strong foundation for future Creative development.

Yes, I meant to the right. Did you mean horizontal?

But thanks for the explanation. One piston does the emitting, the other triggers the dissolving. I suppose that's more stable than emitting with a short lifetime?

So to answer your inquiry more briefly: We only included the types that met our standards, which helped focus the pack and make it more approachable. Because of that design philosophy, there's a ton of logic we didn't include. The point of this pack, as mentioned before, isn't to function as a one-hundred-percent comprehensive logic collection - rather, we aimed to provide Creators with a set of the most useful logic that exists, so that there would be a very strong foundation for future Creative development.

Did you do a long list of all possible logic you could think of, or did you have a good idea which logic to include from the start?

I got it, too, so you're not as bad at explaining as you think.

a flat plus sign, made of wood. each end has a magnetic key switch of the same color that activates a certain... thing, or whatever you connect it to. in the center of the plus sign block, is a rotating bolt thing that makes it spin very fast. it is set so it's very weak, and so you can put something in the way of it to stop it from turning.

you then get a block of wood with the magnetic key-key, attach the block to a piston, and set the maximum length to the point where you can make it go in and out of the way of the plus-sign-block-thing. you make something grabbable and attach the grab switch to the piston on the direction setting. when you grab it, it moves back and away from the plus-sign-block thing and lets it move to the next key switch which activates something else in time for the block-piston-thing to come back and block the plus-sign-wood-thing from spinning

I don't understand how this is different to the notched wheel logic: Something spinning with keys on being physically held in place by a removeable blockage. Even if the purpose is subtley different, the mechanism is very similar and could quickly be tweaked to adapt it.

As CC said though, there were various considerations when choosing what went into the pack. Stuff that was cool and complex would only really have served the purpose of showing off and giving coverage of an extensive range of devices would have given us less resource to actually explain anything or teach anyone. As it stands the pack consists of a core of "plug and play" switches that can all be used for many applications and also utilise a variety of techniques in their construction, to inspire others to take those techniques and apply them to custom logic.

I know a number of people have looked at the advanced pack and thought "I've seen more complex stuff than this", but you really have to appreciate what the purpose of the pack is.

You can win such a shark in Lone Ninja 2. SHAMELESS PLUG ENDS.

As I see it, the multi-task switch was included in the logic pack. It was the 4-way notched wheel toggle.

As for the double-grab, I just made one last night. It's purposes are pretty specific, but I was able to create it solely out of the things shown in the logic pack. The set-reset switch, and winch logic are awesome.

GLEEE hemflowhotflop is great at the mechanics and he made one too. a multitask switch and a double grab switch, using emitters and complex shapes hit at a certain angle to yadda...

i feel like making a logic expansion pack now... *gets to work*

The only thing that guy is good at doing is uploading pictures on the Story levels so he can get author hearts.

He can't be that good if he made the double grab switch into something complex

2 mag switches, 1 piston and 1 emitter (emitting a mag key). Works like a charm!

Hi!

Can someone upload images of all the switches so I can see them? My ps3 doesn't have access to the internet but I'm getting the psp one soon, so I just want to see what they look like, I should be able to at least kind of understand how to use them that way...

Want to be able to finally get into the online lbp community

Sorry for my absence. A multitask switch activates many outputs like one-shot/speed/dirction, ect. Pretty confusing isn't it? I can go slower lol. But in all seriousness, simple as it is, it would benefit creators in many ways. No one comments about how simple a permanent switch is. My first, and I mean very first level used permanent switches to activate bombs, lol, before I even had an online connection or knew about LBPC.

This multiple name stuff really is driving me crazy lol. Your emmitter-based "toggle switch" is basically what I call a state switch. You windmilly-looking switch that had 4 points is what I would call a 4-way state switch. MM's logic video actually made what they adress as a toggle switch, that used two glass pushers to push a glass block across to the other one. (Pathetic, yes I know lol.) Your switch that used two winches on a lever seems like a better version of the mm-toggle switch, but I'm not sure what you called it.

And one last thing, I understand that leftover green stuff makes dark matter, but what are the bulk green blocks for? And how did you move the dark matter?

Wow, two big topics and two questions lol.

They were used for the demos in the Beginner Pack, o' course. They are very important for the logic process...

And how did you move the dark matter?

I'll never tell!!!!

You want to see some REALLY impressive dark matter.... go check out the level "What's the Matter" from xkappax. It makes the moving dark matter in logic pack look like childs play.

The reason we called it a "Set-Reset switch" instead of a "Toggle switch" is because the latter name doesn't imply that two inputs are required to fully manipulate the output. When I hear "Toggle switch", a 2-way switch comes to mind, and we wanted to avoid that kind of confusion by assigning names that described the purpose of the switch as clearly as possible.

As to your second question, comphermc answered it quite nicely.

We called it a Set-Reset Switch. Because:
Set Reset Flip Flop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip-flop_%28electronics%29#SR_flip-flops)

Also for toggle vs state:
Toggle Flip Flop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip-flop_%28electronics%29#T_flip-flops)
State Machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_machine)

Note the state machine isn't represented by any of the logic in the logic pack and probably can't be represented by a generic switch device.

I saw a level where you can practically do anything with materials; you can give dark matter the floaty properties of a pink floaty, make non-slippable glass, wood with the weight of metal, grabbable metal, etc.

You could export to your hard-drive, then upload it to the internet via your PS3 internet browser to a site like photobucket, then from there paste it here. Photobucket even lets you edit it, plus it gives it to you with the [IMG] pre-wrapped. If there not a tutorial on that yet...meh...ill might just have to add it. *Goes to tutorial page*

I don't recall coming in and giving any feedback after going through these. I dove into this pack as soon as it came out, and I absolutely loved it. The tours were awesome. I even learned a thing or two, can you IMAGINE such a thing??

I'm already anticipating one or two of these possibly having to be reworked in order to be water-friendly if that thing ever-ever-ever comes out.

I loved the concept, the story-and-character driven tour was absolutely excellent. The secret entrance to the "advanced" tutorial was a fantastic switcheroo. The vehicle rides between levels make it all cohesive, and amazingly there really is a satsifying feeling of progress as you move through the tutorials. I love the vehicular "upgrades".

The little diorama-like scenes inside the labs were incredible, I just sat back and watched. Loved it. You guys did a stellar job.

Are there any video recordings of the levels? Personally I would rather have video walkthroughs of the levels saved onto my PSP. This way I could jump from video to video as needed while trying to create a level. I think maybe a printable, written summary would help for the same reason.

I'm not sure if anyone has thought of these ideas yet. I have a capture card and I might record unless someone already is doing or has done so.

Not really. It took a lot out of those involved. It was fun, but we have moved on. If someone is truly involved with learning more logic, then we hope they can find their way here, where the resources are available.
