Post a random/weird fact or story about yourself

Archive: 402 posts

Get to better know your fellow LBPCentral-ers!

This is the thread where you post a random, or weird, or little-known fact/experience/tidbit about yourself. Feel free to probe and ask questions about these facts, this is a loosey-goosey thread meant to spur jokes and discussion and generally showcase what an unbelievably weird bunch of human beans we all are.

I'll perform the kick-off:

When I was a senior in High School, I died for a couple of weeks.

What happened was this: I snuck into the school with a friend over Easter break, scared the crap out of some teachers who were there at 3 a.m. being naughty, got caught by police, and was nearly expelled. I was kicked out of my favorite class, Media Technology (we did the weekly newscast) for the remainder of my High School career (that is, a few months). When the next newscast aired, my buddies in Media Tech snuck in a secret 1-minute clip that showed video and photos of my friend and me to Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You", capped off by the message "We miss you guys." They jokingly filled the Media Tech classroom and hallway with black balloons.

For the next week or so, I got countless double takes from kids in the hallways that assumed I had died.

And this has been today's:
True Teebonesy Tidbit!

Now let's hear some weird bits from the rest of you weirdos.

Random fact huh...

At one point I used to have really long hair, almost waist length. I gave up on it after it became too unmanageable.

Hm. Random fact. I love naming my characters in video games, so much that I pretty much won't play an rpg if I can't name my guys. I was crushed that I couldn't name my characters in the remake of Final Fantasy IV, so my husband, for Christmas last year, hacked into the game and changed the names for me.

Edit: Gilgamesh, I also had really long hair. so long that I could sit on it. It got ridiculous, though, so I cut it all off.

Haha, it never got that long for me, but I was mostly bothered by the amount of extra time I had to spend on combing and maintenance every day. It was just too much work.

Oh my gosh, that's terrible. I'm sorry to hear that.

I am just recovering from a rib injury that I got playing Dance Dance Revolution. Took 3 years to heal, and I also was unable to exercise for about two years of it. (turns out I have a lot of random weird facts about me.)

Sara, I was hoping you'd roll in here with your dance-dance-injury. That's a hardcore gamer story right there. Not many people can boast serious long-term injuries from a single videogame experience.

I had a long-term illness known as CFS/ME for just under 3 years. I am still suffering the after-effects (ie unfitness from previous inability to exercise. I am improving, though, I'v dropped loads of weight in the last year and a half.)

I just read up a bit on your condition, pretty crazy stuff - from the wikipedia article, this bit stood out: "The etiology (cause or origin) of CFS is currently unknown and there is no diagnostic laboratory test or biomarker." That stands out because I've had to deal with hard-to-diagnose issues with my girlfriend, and this stuff can be an absolute and total nightmare to contend with. You're very lucky that a doctor was able to diagnose you properly and you're out of the woods. CFS sounds like a gnarly little *******.

It sort of reminds me of a more-hardcore Fibromyaglia, which is medically unexplained, and both difficult and controversial to diagnose. My girlfriend has many of the symptoms and has been struggling with issues and has been unable to receive working medication or diagnosis of the proper kind for well over a year now. The doctor has diagnosed her with MONO on like 5 or 6 separate occasions. Mono! The disease you're only supposed to be able to get once! she's been diagnosed with it half a dozen times in her life.

Anyway, it's good to know you're out of bed and properly lazing around playing videogames now!

You're very lucky that a doctor was able to diagnose you properly and you're out of the woods.

Actually this was a pretty unlucky thing, considering my brother and father (and, I think, his father) had the condition too, which is really the only main reason that the doctor could diagnose it.

Anyway, it's good to know you're out of bed and properly lazing around playing videogames now!

I'm actually off school ill right now, in bed D: But it should be gone within a day or two, it's just sore through bunged up nose and ears, etc.

I'm very sorry to hear about your girlfriend, Fibromyalgia (I presume you meant this, not myaglia) sounds dreadful. If her current doctor is not up-to-scratch, I'd recommend seeking other help. Hope she gets better, it took me a while but I'm definitely rid of ME now.

Concerning the Dance Dance injury: it happened over a period of like 6 years or so. It was from wearing jeans and playing DDR all the time. The jeans were sort of accidentally corseting my hips. My hips were not moving, the ribs were. The ribs popped out and were completely twisted. It took 3 years of manipulation from an osteopath to pop them back in. I will never play ddr again after that ordeal.

Oh, lol. I also had Cat Scratch Fever, which is VERY real, VERY painful and not just a Ted Nuget song.

Except this one. I am afraid to fly and cannot even go near an airport.

So, Syroc, I guess I know who to give my plane ticket to anywhere in the world to if I ever receive one. ^_^

Aww, and here I was about to talk about appendicitis...

Another random fact...

I have a decent collection of YGO trading cards from when I used to play with friends and in tournaments. My favorite has always been the Red-Eyes Black Dragon... even though it sucks.

In high school, I once tried to raise money to buy an old used van (that my friends and I intended to crash) by eating a 7lb can of baked beans in one hour. I went around the school asking people to make pledges and would write the amount on the can. By the end of the day, I had well over $500 pledged.

So, the next morning, I came to school, found a teacher who would let me use his room and proceeded to eat about 1/3 of the can before getting sick and almost puking. My friends were extremely disappointed with my performance, as was I.

And we never got the van... but I did get a picture of me eating the beans in the yearbook!

Um, how about the fact that I am often confused for a 17/18 year old O.O

mrsupercomputer, awesome story, though I am disappointed in you my young padawan

How much is 7lb? 4/5 standard cans? I'd quaff that in seconds xD

Semi-interesting...

My blood type is AB Negative, and I'm CMV (Cytomegalovirus) negative as well. These two biological facts in tandem make me an excellent candidate for automated plasma/platelet donation - especially with infants as recipients (the CMV-neg. part is essential to this) - which I do every two weeks due to the fact there are two babies in the St. Louis, MO area that require regular donations.

Top it off with the fact I'm albino and I guess you could say I'm something of a walking, statistical improbability.

7 lbs = 3,175 grams

1 tin = 415g

3,175/415 = 7.7 tins

That would be impressive

My father was taken hostage at knife point a few years ago in his shop by a mentally ill man who tried to kill him and then tried to get the police to shoot him. It was so surreal. I was standing across the street watching all these SWAT team members run around with MP5's and snipers setting up, and I thought "this has to be some crappy nightmare I'm stuck in". One of the worst days of my life. It really made me appreciate how fragile and uncertain life is and that we need to appreciate every day we have with those around us we care about.

Dad made it out alive by the way (only a bloody gash on his head)... he negotiated his own release after several hours when his attacker kept refusing to talk to the police negotiator. He's my hero.

Is that random enough?

Oh, wait, hi. Perfect.

Also, I've never met an albino IRL, but I've always wondered what it'd be like to be one, I've always thought I'd make a great albino Totally random, dunno why, but I always thought I'd be a really good albino person O.O

Thanks folks. I only thought of it because I found out last week that his assailant has made a "full recovery" (whatever that means) and is no longer under watchfull treatment. He didn't do time as he was found not criminally responsible... on account of him losing his marbles that day. Hopefully, he takes his meds everyday and won't have a relapse.

I'm also afraid of donating blood xkappax... I'm deathly afraid of needles. *yikes*

BSprague, was that a way of saying that you have severe arthritis without breaking my "no maladies/injuries" thing?
That's actually a myth, the majority of "cracks" are completely harmless and actually temporarily improve mobility. The only effects are possibly stretched tendons over a lifetime of cracking fingers. The ones you have to look out for are the cracks caused by bone getting caught on bone, those can be bad.

Also, I can drink a 32 oz McDonald's Sweet Tea in just under 5 seconds.

...that's a really nice thing that you're doing there, donating plasma for the kiddies. I myself am afraid to donate blood.

It's something that I'm both glad to do and happy that I'm not afraid to do.

My grandmother was diagnosed with AML (Acute myeloid leukemia) earlier this year and passed away August 11, 2009. I loved her very much and it was extremely tough to sit by and not be able to do anything to help her get better. That said, this is my way of doing something. To me, it would be wrong if I didn't share my gift as it's so rare and can make sure a big difference.

Growing up with albinism was pretty intense. Lots of name-calling and ignorance found me and - surprisingly enough - not always from kids either. I ran into the occasional adult that liked to taunt me from the stands when I played basketball. A heavy burden for a child to bear, but I always knew I was strong enough to rise above the stupidity and make it through.

Now, I'm happily married and even helped produce a remarkably intelligent (and some might even say "cute") son. Life can always be better, but it can certainly be so much worse.

Drives me nuts as well. I was at a wedding on Saturday and had plastic utensils. How are you even supposed to eat with those things?! Needless to say, I ditched them and began shoveling food into my gullet with my bare hands!

Not really. My wife would hurt me if I embarrassed her by doing something like that...

Wait, hair! When it rains (like it did today while I was playing football) my hair sticks up, like a lot. More than if I spent hours gelling it, I don't have to touch it , it just...shoom!

...yeah. Everyone else's hair flops over their eyes and mine turns into a lump of dark-brown razor blades.

I'm double jointed. I can make my pointer fingers bend back and touch the back of my hand. When I was doing it like all the time in elementary school I could make the whole finger lay on the back of my hand. Now that I hardly ever do it, it's hard just to reach the back of my hand at all.

Ummmm, definitely more than that but nothings coming to mind at the moment.

Aha, I've had some very strange and quirky conversations about winking recently. I CAN wink, however, sometimes, if I'm not paying attention, I end up just doing a really over-the-top blink. Like I'm taking a polaroid photo with my eyes, or trying to turn an electrical device off by blinking, that sort of head-nod-while-closing-eyes thing. Awkward!

What the hell!!! That's inSANE! Did anyone else here do a triple-take and a "WHUUUUUH??" at this?? I have to say man, that's one mega doozy of a story. Man, I've got nothing on that one. Congrats on having a bad-*** for a dad though. If I was in that situation my self-defense probably would have involved crying with lots of snot, and pooing myself.

Top it off with the fact I'm albino and I guess you could say I'm something of a walking, statistical improbability.

Fuh REEEALS? That's incredible, I had no idea. That's **** amazing, it is. I've never actually met an albino, but it's one of those curious and interested disorders that can instantly and permanently separate you from nearly every group you'll ever find yourself in, and especially as a child, can instantly make a pariah out of you. I've often joked about having albinism due to my amazing pastiness, lack of popularity, and my skin's extreme sensitivity to the sun (I'm have code-red, look-out-behind-you, high-potential-risk for skin cancer). Talk about a character-building disorder though. You must have learned some tough life lessons extra early compared to the rest of us obnoxious little boys. Throughout much of school I was a bit of a social outcast by my own doing, so I always tend to be drawn to the exiles.

A couple more, after being reminded by some other posts here:

? I too, am a twin. I have a twin sister, and you could not find two people more different.
? I am an army brat. My dad's a gulf war vet, and as a kid we moved around all over the place. Before the age of twelve, I lived in 8 different places.
? One time I ate a full, fresh habanero pepper. At the time the thought occurred to me: "This is by far the stupidest thing I've EVER done." To top it off I was STUFFED with food at the time, and barely had room to even drink water. As a result, I found myself at the buffet table packing ice into my EARS. I was the only white person in a room full of Mexicans. Believe me, they had a good laugh watching the show.

Bahahahahahhaa

If I had a "Quotes" spoiler in my Sig, you'd be in there.

I've always had a relatively pepper-resistant palate (though I've never really had an OTT pepper), in that whenever I'm in a Mexican restaurant I can out-eat my brothers (they still can't believe that I can eat all the peppers on a plate of nachos at once without a single bead of sweat/tear or movement of the face whatsoever. Pansies.)

I also have an awesome resistance to the sun (in that I never really burn, I just "tan")

I have exceedingly fast-growing fingernails.

I've always had a relatively pepper-resistant palate (though I've never really had an OTT pepper).

That's what I thought! I considered myself a real hardass when it came to handling really hot stuff. For some reason warning bells did NOT go off when the 50-year old Mexican woman next to me who didn't speak english was fanning herself and sweating bullets and making "WOOOO!" sounds just from the tiniest little wittle nibbles on one of these peppers.

She offered me one with a vocalization that said "You want to kill yourself?" It was almost a mocking, joking, un-offer of food.

I shrugged, said, yeah okay, thinking, I'm KNOWN for my spicy-food constitution.
CHOMP.

next thing I know, my friend looks over at me, loudly gasps, and the table falls silent as they look my way and see the white boy holding a bright orange stem and nothing more.

"...What? What did I just... Did I just make a big mistake?"
"Uhh... Maybe we should get some water."
"...You know what, it, it's not that bad. It really isn't, I think I'm okay."
"no. No, let's go get some water right now."
We walk up to to buffet table together, me with my empty glass in hand. I look down at the giant bowl of ice and water, and I think, "I might just be okay. I really AM good at handling ho--"

I was just outside barstow, when the drugs kicked in.

Like a freight train to the face. My brain shut down almost instantly. I didn't know how the world worked. All I knew was pain, and please god, make it stop. I scooped icey water and clumsily poured it all over my glass and hand. I made to drink it but couldn't. When I got some in my mouth it didn't work. I could scarcely swallow. I was so full of Mexican food.

Again - I didn't know how the world worked. I cared about nothing except stopping the pain. My only recourse was to pack ice into my ears.

Distantly, like a tv in the neighboring room, I heard a chorus of laughter and a few sympathetic motherly "awww"s.

I filled my mouth and ears with ice and stood over the trash can with my jaw wide open, a trickling waterfall of melted ice and drool cascading downward.

The white boy show at a Mexican funeral.
I do birthday parties too.

Actually, the bhut jolokia would be the grand-daddy. Over 1,000,000 on the scoville scale, that bad boy. Grows in India. Isn't it strange that the hottest peppers in the world tend to be eaten most often in the hottest REGIONS in the world? The sweat cools you down.

Considering the jolokia is literally over 3 times hotter than the pepper I ate, I honestly can't imagine it. there's NO WAY I'd take the plunge. that's not true, I'd do it for a shiny cash prize.

Random Fact:
I hate eating off plastic utensils.

I am the opposite. I will not eat with anything metal unless there is no other choice.
Other facts:
-I love the Packers, thus the name Chezhead... Cheese heads are what the Packer Fans are called. It's a weird fact since the Packers "aren't really doing too well."
-I have pretty shaggy hair, and I am a MALE.
-I read informative books backward.
-I am mature for my age, and yet the youngest in my class, I am one of the smartest and least rambunctious.
-Access of estrogen. No comments, please. And no, I'm not homosexual. Just a medical thing. Not too bad, but can sometimes lead to problems.
Smart people would be able to know what it is, and usually intelligence leads to maturity. So smart (and mature) people would know what it was and not make fun of me.
-I LOVE oranges and orange juice.
More later... I think.

-I love knowing random things,

Don't worry, no fun-making here. Actually, you've hit on one of my interests. Hormonal "imbalances" - there's a book called Middlesex which is an amazing novel of the life of a hermaphrodite growing up in America. the main character has hybrid genitalia but is hormonally more male than female. He grows up as a girl, and as a teenager is "reborn" so to speak as a male.
EDIT: I want to clarify this because i realize not everyone here may know much about the topic - Chezhead does NOT have what I'm describing with this novel 'Middlesex'!! I'm merely recommending what I thought was an amazing novel that has a lot to say about hormones and what that word really means.

I tend to see everyone as neither wholly male nor female, neither g.ay (aargh, censor) nor straight, but some degree of grey in between. We all begin the same developmentally. We all have estrogen and we all have testosterone and we all have a wide variety of other hormones in varying degrees.

People who are open about this grey area, who know themselves enough to realize that they aren't just any one thing, are beacons of hope for humanity's future as far as I'm concerned.

Question, if it's not too personal (and feel free to say no, you don't have to answer!): How do you feel your "condition" (if that's what you might call it) has sculpted your personality growing up so far?

It's fine when someone asks intelligent questions, but not too much. Just fingernails grow longer, my hair, facial structure, and voice pitch. People think I look homosexual

The only people I look at and at first glance think the might POSSIBLY be homosexual either a) wearing earrings b) reading a homosexual magazine c) in a homosexually orientated bar d) in the act of coitus or any sort of sexual contact with another man. I mean, really, aside from the obvious situations, can you really just look at someone and assume they're homosexual? That's ridiculous.

chez, I have really fast growing fingernails too As for the "doesn't help with the ladies" thing, studies have shown (according to someone at school, but I see the reasoning and am willing to believe him) that guys with more feminine facial features score higher among women.

T-bone, pure caspaicin crystals are 16,000,000 on the Scoville scale. A single 1mm crystal can injure you for 2 days.

People think I look ***, and it makes people not like me at first sight.

That there's an awful shame. That'll get way better as you get older. Are you a teenager? That'd be the worst time for that.

Seriously though, live in a coastal city when you're older and you won't have to worry about people not liking you at first sight. Also, if you feel like it's hurting your chances with the ladies now, down the road they're going to be all over you. I know a ton of really pretty girls that LOVE guys that don't fit into the "manly" masculine stereotypes.

Also, I've never been into sports! I always sucked at every sport I tried, and never got into any. Never played in any sort of organized league whatsoever.

@ chezhead - the ladies will love those qualities later in life. Smart, funny and sensitive win out.

um... another fact. Ok - I had TMJ syndrome until I was a Junior in High School and had 7 teeth pulled surgically, had braces for 3 years and had to have both my upper and lower jaw broken surgically and spent 5 days in the hospital and 4 weeks eating purred food.... although I tried to manage a whopper after 7 days... god I missed texture! I have four titanium plates in my upper jaw, six screws in my lower jaw and a tiny bit of wire on my chin.... all this is on the bone and you can't tell at all. That's impossible. Nobody can make a story out of that. I heard Edgar Allen Poe tried that once and nearly died. Van Gogh tried to paint it and he lost an ear.

lol, oops I meant glacier not iceberg. Two very different things!

The jungle hiking, well that can be organised very easily from the North of Thailand once you find a decent guide.

The Glacier treks are all organised in Patagonia in Argentina and New Zealand.

And as for the village. There a very little known village in Fiji (don't really want to give the name out as they kind of like to keep away from the modern world.)

I found out about it from a local, and I just happened to bump into the chiefs wife who was buying some things in the local town. She ivited me back to their village and I hung out with the chief in his hut smoking cigerettes for the evening Very relaxed bunch of people

Not so random fact but more to return to xkappax and Gilgamesh's posts - I currently have long hair. Really long hair. Touches my tush. I find that it's not hard to maintain at all but I do have pretty fine textured hair so while it's long it's not massive.

LOL!! I used to have hair that long myself! I used to play lead guitar in a local rock band and the hair thing seemed to fit in with my ummm.. stage weirdness. Finally cut it all off one day as I got tired of it keeping me from looking down if I sat on it.

Here some other fun facts.

Some know that I love racing and do freelance sports photography for a national racing magazine. However... some might not know the following.

I am a great driver and have an amazing amount of car control. I have been to several DE track events and basically wowed all my instructors with how smooth and controlled I am as well as passing pretty much everything in my run group. So I love going and doing track days with my car. I have modified it quite a bit for performance as well as have an extra set of wheels with performance tires and even safety harnesses just for those events. ..and yes, my own helmet. So basically, for quite a few years, my vacation time has been spent at road courses around the Midwest going horribly fast in my car.

Up until this year, I also did quite a bit of autoX (SCCA solo) competition and won a regional championship as well as a few 2nd place finishes in different car classes.

I also have done quite a bit of cart racing at a local indoor and outdoor tracks.

I do not condone going fast on public roads... Silly to involve innocent drivers that already cannot drive well with your speed induced madness.

Do it on the track, where there is no speed limit!!!

lol, jww, i would have killed to be in a band. I play guitar and sing, but people are boring around here and don't want to be in a punk band.

Anyway...
Here are a few more fun facts by me:

Centralia, the town that our first level was based on, is an hour from my house, yet I've never been there. I have been to the Crystal Cave, though, which is also located in Pennsylvania, and farther away than Centralia. There are no crystals. It's disappointing.

When I was in 9th grade, I almost died in a car crash. I hit the window because I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I didn't get my license until I was 18 because of this.

I have a cat named Ghost that is completely deaf. I adopted him from a shelter after he was found taped up in a box with 15 other cats and left on the side of the road.

I once did an animated Christmas Card that was an hour and fifteen minutes long, it took me from July to December to complete, and it made me hate animating.

I love lizards, snakes, and most bugs, but am scared to death of spiders for some reason.

I can name almost every prepositional phrase off the top of my head. I do it to annoy my husband sometimes.

I am scared to death of germs and won't even read news stories about the Swine Flu.

xkappax, go on, list all the prepositional phrases!

On that topic:

The primary school english teacher, after an exhausting day trying to teach her students how you should never end a sentence with a preposition, took a book about Australia up to read to her 6 year old daughter before her bed. The daughter, upon seeing the book, said "Mommy, why did you bring that book that I didn't want to be read to from up about Down Under up for?"

well, all right :

about above across after against along among around at before behind below beneath beside besides between beyond but by concerning down during except for from in inside into like near next next to out outside of off on past since through throughout to toward towards under underneath until up upon with within without

This is just a few. We had to memorize this list for a test in 3rd grade. I made a little song out of it to memorize it and it's stuck in my head forever.

Hmms, I am quite boring in comparisson to everyone here

* My Dad works for Sony Professional
* Because of this during my childhood I lived in England, Dubai and Portugal before returning to England once more (woot, cold weather)
*I like cold weather and did my silver D of E on Dartmoor (100km as bird flies in the snow going up n down tors, loved every moment)
* I hate hot weather; when i lived in Dubai I had very bad skin behind my ears and so it felt like they could fall off (not sure how realistic that actually was )
* I have been hit in the head by a 3 wood, burnt my arm on a portable raditor (but now most of the scars have gone) and cut into my finger and could see the bone all before the age of 6
*I have swam with dolphins (amazing stuff, mum recorded over the tape with neighbours )
*When i went to Thailand I got a horrible illness on the return (we went from thailand to dubai then dubai to england) it was very 'uncomfotable for my stomach' lets say and so I couldn't eat for a week and got my calories out of sprites and lucosade. I tried a bowl of plain dry cornflakes after 2 days of leaving thailand and I was 'removing it' for the next 4 days.

To end on a happy note
*When i got drunk at our leavers afterparty I walked home (1 hour away from the party at 2 in the morn, don't ask ) and I accidentally bumped into a black cow when I noticed a floresant tag floating in the air. The cow gave a simple moo and carried on.

So yeah if it hadn't been for my Dad's job none of that would've happened

Um... my pop pop is a war vet who fought in D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, and just turned 90 and still walks around without a cane and even blew out all the candles on his bday cake on sunday? Hm

My grandad made bridges for the boats at D-day. He's 89.
He can walk fine and all that. Still plays golf, snooker, and the crossword

My granddad was on the opposing team.
He wasn't on the front, as far as I know, which was a great relief to him has he was one of the pacifist people I know. I think he was stationed in Norway for while.

Does anyone else think wexfordian is actually Drake from Uncharted?
*Anyway, I have been to all the Florida theme parks as many times as you go to the store.
*I've been to every beach in Florida but Miami beach, was going to Key West so we bypassed it.
*I have three kids. Well I help raise them, they are my girlfriends but I think I still get credit.
*I used to own a pure bred Rottweiller that was K9 trained in Germany and a pure bred English Mastiff. Not too many liked walking by our house lol. The mastiff, if anyone owns one you know, was the most loving dog.
*Our meter reader used binoculars to read the electricity meter. Due to the big dogs thing.

xkappax you have to go to Busch Gardens. I don't know your age, and believe me, it won't matter. But do it right. Go for two days and bring at least 2 but no more than 3 friends. The first day go and ride all the rides. Remember where everything is but skip over anything thats not a ride. Not to say don't look, but day one is ride priority. The second day see everything else. There are so many experiences you will miss if your sole intent is "let's go to Kuma". Also doing the rides first means that if you are passing a ride that has a short line that just so happens to pass by and exhibit, then you can get the rush and get back to the aminals. And its getting to be winter time so you won't even need the misters. Get there at opening though, and sneak in drinks.

More things!

didaskaleinophobia
I just hate it, but am not afraid of it. Theres a difference.

*I only get sick once or twice a year.
Same here. I think its eating healthy, but who knows.

-I write with my right hand, shoot guns with my left, bow and arrow with my left, guitar with my left, pitch with my right, and bat with my right. I REALLY am messed up.
-I can meditate and be extremely calm.
-I have a knack for knowing emotions and can make people think things, and can tell when someones hates me or likes me.
-Usually oblivious to peer pressure. Some people must be people magnets (Or vampires), as people follow them like Obama. I just walk past and see the simple minded "social zombies" basing everything they do on this one person. Simple minded people. SIMPLE MORTALS. MEHEHEHEHEG.
-I HATE BEES AND ANY BUG that has a stinger or could potentially hurt me.
-I like being up high but not going in roller coasters. The idea of being strapped into a death machine which if it would fail, you cannot get out. At least you (or family members if dead) would sue them. People say this is unprobable, but now I know that albino humans exist. I heard of them, but thought it was some joke or urban legend.

Same. I'm not sure I could stand being in a room with one of them. They cry, demand, and if you do anything to anger them or make them mad (AKA not letting them play some T rated game) they cry foul and "tattle" or cry. Then adults hate you.

Oh, here's another one. I get deja vu on a daily basis, no kidding. Sometimes I get the strongest ones imaginable, down to the detail, sometimes it's just a twinge. Apparently, deja vu is when what you see gets registered by your memory centre before your concious mind registers it, so when your concious mind registers it, it checks your memory, and finds you've seen it before. So, I guess I'd say that I remember things really quickly.

And what do you call it when you see it in a dream weeks or month earlier?

/worried

I remember my dreams, most of them anyway. And I can control them ie decide what happens when to stop and when to go on. I know while dreaming that I've dreamt that particular dream before but didn't "finish" it so I can decide to dream and see if it's really as bad as I thought it would be. (Yes, most of them are. Some of them make horror movies look tame)

No. Deja Vu is when you are sure you've seen something before, an exact situation. The strongest I've had it recently is in our holiday home in Wales, watching TV and playing Civilisation IV late in the evening. Something happened on the TV as I made a move on Civ IV and I was like WOAH Deja Vu, then I was like, I'm sure my mum says something about that guy on TV now...and then my mum said something about the guy on TV. Weird. What Syroc said is Precognition (see: Minority Report)2009-11-04 23:03:00

MAN I've had the creepiest dreams. I can tell whats going on in most dreams and the only thing I get scared by is surprise. No blood and gore or "monster", just surprise.

My dreams are so weird and are always freaky. I wake up sweating profusely. I never remember them, either. What could scare me like that? I will never know. Or will I?

I thought i used to be able to get hints for the future in my dreams as a kid. I would have a ridiculous dream where my grandmother was driving my mom's car and she was sleeping so I would take the wheel on impulse and would steer it into a forest. This is where it gets funky. I would always land on a mansions driveway and my *other* grandmother would be standing on the doorsteps lifting weights. At this point she would say but one word or sentence. It always hinted at something that was going to happen the next day. The strangest thing is, I've had this dream many times and the beginning is always the exact same! She says something different every time though.

One time she just said 'Nice Job.' and handed me a gift card that said 'Very nice work Andrew!' and had $20 inside. I thought nothing of this until the next day when I received a 100% on my unit math test and when my mother handed me a $20 reward!

Another time, my grandmother (without saying anything) welcomed me into the mansion. It was full of rides, fountains and strange people... basically an average child fairy-tale (this is just a random detail I remember). She looked over to me and said 'Watch out.' The ceiling then proceeded to break and fall on top of me as I woke up sweating and panting. Next day, a light fixture in my room fell on my head. Thank god it only left a bruise

Unfortunately I haven't had one of these dreams in about 4 years

Anyway, yeah thought I'd share that.

@Wex:

WOW!!! Man, you're quite the adventurer. Sounds amazing, all stuff I would love to do. How in the WORLD do you find time to travel so much??

A couple more about myself:

? About 6 years ago I walked up to my car in a parking garage in the city and 2 guys were robbing it. I sort of hid behind another car to get a closer look to see if what I was seeing was really happening - sure enough, the car was cracked open and I was being robbed blind. Not having a cell phone and unsure how best to react, seeing as I was outnumbered and outmuscled, I decided to go the bat-**** insane route. I ran up to them, screaming bloody murder to drop all the **** or I was going to kill them. I reasoned, if these guys think I'm really genuinely off my rocker, maybe I can scare them into dropping everything. They did - CD player came out - CD binder came out - other miscellaneous crap - "Okay, this is everything, okay, sorry man, this is everything!" and they walked off. I didn't KNOW if it was everything. I wasn't sure what to do aside from check through the car to see if anything was missing. By the time I realized that the single most important thing I had was gone - a folder that held my passport, birth certificate, and other crucial documents (I had needed them while out running immigration errands) - they were out of the parking garage. I jumped in the car and sped around the block hunting for them while my girlfriend went to call the cops.

They were never caught, the documents were never recovered.

? I LOVE wooden roller coasters. I've ridden Vancouver's wooden coaster so many times I can easily do the whole thing without holding on for a second. I can't wait to find some other good ones out there, especially the really old rickety ones.

@the frozen penguin: I actually plan on going to Florida next autumn to go to a few theme parks. And hopefully Hogwarts will be open by then. I'll be with 3 people, so that's the perfect number.

@syroc, a dream you can control is a lucid dream. I have them too. Alot.

Another weird fact related to dreams:
I also have a lot of anxiety dreams that feature me trying to save lizards. The more lizards I try to save, the more I end up killing. Anytime I take on too many responsibilities, I'll indefinitely have one of these dreams.

I, too, know most, if not all, of the lyrics to Les Miserables. (And Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked, and Rent, and Little Shop of Horrors, and...)

Also, I used to have non-cancerous tumors that spawned in my left ear. To remove them, the doctor had to SLICE OFF MOST OF MY EAR and peel it back, then sew it back on after he was done. This happened twice. Happily, it is now impossible for the tumors to come back.

Lots of Les Mis fans here! I don't know nearly the words to the entire musical, but I do know some of my favorite songs very well. The opening number "look dooown... look dooown..."

the factory song. "At the end of the day you're another day older!"

the ABC Cafe.
"Red! The blood of angry men!"

I love that play so, so, so much. I just saw it for the first time live THIS year, and it was amazing. Stirring. I will catch it anytime it comes back to town.

*I knew a couple who owned 3 wolfs. They lived in Tennessee so unexpected seems to be the norm.
*I lived near alot of hispanics so we always had chickens running around. We even had names for them. Monday Tuesday etc... I know thats a George Lopez joke. But for real we were just kids and though it was funny to name them days of the week we thought they were gonna be dinner.
*@Xkappax, okay if you go to Universal Studios go for the two park pass. You got to go to Islands of Adventure, ten times better than Universal Studios. However you have got to go on the Simpsons ride.

I used to have snakes (corn snakes... very friendly). We had a male and a female anndd... uuhhh... *cough* *cough* yeeeeeeaaaah. Walked in on them once. I was like 'OH GUYS IM SORRY I DIDN'T REA.... oooooh so that's how you do it!?'.
Basically every 6 months or something we had 30 or so eggs. We raised them a bit then sold them on to shops. Killed the ones that refused to eat (there's always some). Don't worry, it was done in a very humane way. It's natural that some baby snakes dont eat and die. Anywho, I lost one in my room... never found it lol. I'm still amazed it escaped tbh, the cage me and my dad built was awesome. I lost another one as well once but found it on the otherside of the house ontop of the highest part of the toilet where the water is kept. I was impressed.

It's kind of scary that we think of such horrible things. I can't stop my dreams it just keeps going and it freaks me out most of the time. One time in my dream I jumped off a skyscraper and right when I touched the ground I woke up... that was when I was 9...
I think why it's scarier then a horror movie is that your actually thinking of the scariest thing to YOU, not the director of the film. So your thinking of the worst that you would find scary. The truly sad thing is that we do think of the worst thing that could happen to us and that is what scares me.

I'm moving from Ottawa to Vancouver at the end of this month. I'm a little nervous as I've never done anything like this before and it's a big step for me... even though I just turned 40.

I once got electrocuted in my basement by touching an exposed wire after the lights went out.

I love guns, hate killing things, yet I'd have no problem being a sniper in the military (I'm an excellent shot).

I've partied with several famous musicians and film stars, but don't stalk them and don't get star-struck.

I'm a huge Star Wars fan who is trying to un-learn useless facts like "The ship designation for the Millenium Falcon is YT-1300".

I can multi task and do better working in a crowded, loud enviorment.
Oh, and I SUCK at art. Any drawing looks like a good one, but blown up.

I have a good/bad memory

Can remember detailed stuff but I can't remember the simpler things as much.

Like I'll remember where I put my art folder in my art room out of about 30 folders beside each other...
But I can't remember to go get my folder XD

I'm good at art.

I know nothing about computers compared to all you guyz

I hate John and Edward more than if my waffles went out of date

me three!

ok finally posted this on my YouTube account. So "random" fact: I've been jetwashed by an F22. I'm holding the camera - I apologize for the shake but heat and gravel to the face will distract from being a camera operator. I also apologize for my goofy screaming of "its hot" and "Holy Smokes!" I was a bit overcome at the time

Enjoy.

Hahaha! VERY enjoyable. Man, did you see that jerk driving by in the F22 kicking up dirt in your guys' faces? What a JERK! You should have thrown eggs at him.
What's that? You didn't have eggs with you??!!
....What kind of picnic WAS that anyway?

I'm moving from Ottawa to Vancouver at the end of this month. I'm a little nervous as I've never done anything like this before and it's a big step for me... even though I just turned 40.

I've partied with several famous musicians and film stars, but don't stalk them and don't get star-struck.

Let me be the first to welcome you to Vancouverland! I've lived here for 5-6 years now. Hope you like Japanese and middle-eastern food! And brace yourself, you're coming at the greyest, most miserable loveliest time of year. Any questions/concerns/curiosities, just drop me a line!

Also... Time to pony up the details! What famous musicians and film stars??

@Morgana - I can't view the link for some reason (I'm on a different computer than normal) which really sucks because I LOVE F-22's and this sounds like a good laugh to say the least. Will check it out later from a different machine.

Thanks so much. Japanese is okay.... love middle-eastern. Ottawa winters are far worse in my opinion... cold, bitter, damp, and tons of slush and snow. I think I'd much prefer grey drizzly days and milder temperatures than what I'm used to. Not sure what area I'm moving to yet, but I think it's somewhere close to the downtown core. Perhaps we can hook up for a pint some time once I get settled in. I'm likely not bringing my PS3, but may buy a new one once I arrive.

As for famous people. Stabbing Westward (one of my favourite bands) - met them after a show and Chris invited me and my brother onto the tour bus for a few drinks with the band after the show. I then re-hooked up with them on their bus in Toronto when they opened for Depeche Mode about 6 months later (and blew them away I might add). Their drummer Andy Kubiszewski was there too and I got to chat with him a bit about playing with NIN. I partied a bit with 54-40 on a private boat cruise our band won tickets for... great guys. Met Dan Akroyd and was supposed to work a private party at his house my work was catering, but my girlfriend at the time was in town so I opted out. I've been to Adam Beach's house a bunch of times and partied with him and his gang, and jammed with him once or twice. Really fantastic group of people. You may know Adam as Ira Hayes from Flags of Our Fathers, or from Windtalkers, or Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He also played Kicking Wing, the native selling firecrackers from his trailer in the film Joe Dirt.

Another interesting/weird fact about me. I've never seen any of Adams movies except Joe Dirt, and didn't realize he played in it until long after I'd met him.

I've met a few others, but not really partied with them... and this post is getting long.

I love Stabbing Westward! That's very cool - I've hung out with a couple of bands, but nobody particularly famous. I know the former bassist for Sarah Slean and I know various friends of bands - mostly Canadian.

Also, I failed to realize that you're coming from Ottawa. You'll probably be thrilled to experience the fact that it rarely reaches freezing temperatures here.

But what it DOES do is dance horribly on the verge of freezing, so it feels freezing, but without any snow, instead being grey drizzly WET rain constantly. I don't even call it "rain". It's just WETNESS. It PIZZLES. Dark days, lots of them, in a row, with nary an escape in sight.

Although that does make it very satisfying to duck into any random cafe ANYWHERE and just cozy up to a bar or table and have a cheap bite in a warm room. I'm the kind of guy that can actually enjoy miserable weather as long as there's the promise of shelter, of being inside looking out.

Another tidbit:

? I got kicked out of Canada once. I managed to convince the immigration official to let me leave on my own without an armed escort, and to keep it off my immigration record. I am now living in Canada, and am officially eligible to apply for citizenship.

After finishing the dishes, assuming you have a water filter, why not filter that water and use it to brush your tee...

I'm kinda the same with the whole hand thing (NO...), I mean, I can use my hands pretty much equally, especially when it comes to instruments. I can play left-handed guitar almost as good as my right, and I can drum both sides as well. The only weird thing is that I write with my right hand the same way that a left handed person would with their right...If you get my meaning 0__0

EDIT: @Wex - Since when did instruments mean THAT?!

Hmm, me?

I once had a dream where Barney the Dinosaur came out of the closet and ate my hand off.

I'm getting 80s and up in all my classes right now.

If you type my real name into Google images, a bunch of creepy old guys show up.

When I was younger, I had a dream where I flew across the room slowly, and landed gently beside my bookcase. I woke up beside my bookcase with a broken collar bone. (And the bookcase was on the whole other side of the room.)

Every day for the past 10 days I have said: "I want cheesecake."

Whenever I go on Failblog or Icanhascheezburger, I get to page 100 without getting bored.

I pwn at Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

My computer's network card burned, and then my computer literally fried. (Not completely fixed yet. I'm using my brother's computer.)

Before I got addicted to LBP, I was addicted to Animal Crossing. (Seriously.)

I used to be scared of some clowns. (Ironic, eh?)

That enough?

Lol, same as me

I can recognize people I know by their scent when they don't use perfumes... and maybe to compensate that, I'm a bit deaf - oh, and I usually dream of me massacring lots of people bare handed, with insane strenght (I often break open cars and walls, can do super jumps, and so on) - I'm sometimes less merciless and leave people bleeding to death. The thing I like most about it is that I run like an animal (with legs and arms) and have fangs and nails. It's a kind of dream I have since I was little

This thread makes a good read. We should make a database with odd facts for every user that's posted here!

Anyway...

I used to live in America, from when I was 1 until 3. Spokane I think.

I too am ambedestorus (yes that's probably spelt wrong), and my mum recently found an article in a newspaper about people who are equally good with both hands, it matched me perfectly.

If you Google the name of someone I know from school, all the pictures are of gravestones

Im very good at sneaking up on people

Cant Swim

Can somehow flip between extreme different emotions and/or have them at the same time (I often get hyper and tired, i.e hyper without energy)

I love hugs, alot sometimes get mocked when I hug guys though, I dont care.

I sometimes have random subconsious actions, like getting out of a chair, spinning slowly in a circle then sitting back down

Seem to have selective short-term memory loss (I can remember how to do tricks/glitches in LBP and SSBB, but I dont remember to check the time when im out or forget homework)

Im weird ><

Next day, Christmas morning, I wake up, start opening my presents with my mother. I start to take a turn for the worse. We set off too hospital, I'm told my lungs are collapsing, both of them, I am feeling bad, but I don't feel as bad as you would've thought when both your lungs are giving up. I am quickly sedated via gas anesthetic. I wake up 2 days later. A ventilator tube down my throat and a TV above me with the news on, Thailand had been hit by a tsunami as well as the surrounding countries. Funny thing is, the place where we were going, was Thailand, had I not been ill, we would have been in one of the hotels on the coast of Phuket, the hotel which we had stayed it several times before. That very hotel, had been destroyed. Had I not taken a turn for the worse, well, I would have. :l

I actually have this too. I am scared to death to put on the PS3 headset. And if I have to call someone for the first time, whether it's a business, a doctor, or even a friend I've never called before, I'll sit there for about a half an hour before I can coax myself to do it.

You guys should have seen me before I did sackcast! I was A MESS!

During the online create beta I had to talk on a headset a lot, and it was really hard for me at first. I still prefer typing.

Thats creepy bro get some help.

Ever since I've played Minecraft, I've had this strange phobia for spiders.
http://www.minecraft.net/survivaltest/
If you have Java, you can play it.
The spiders.. they jump out at you.... and their eyes...

In the indev, they hide then jump, just making me more freaked out by them, even in real life.

Oh, and I want to tell you this:
V nz guvegrra lrnef byq.

ROT13

What?

AND PLEASE, If you figure it out, keep it to yourself... Let others find it XD

I won a couple of Nintendo Power contests back in the day. One was when Earthbound came out, the strategy guide game with some scratch-and-sniff cards at the end. One was a "mystery smell", and if you sent it into Nintendo and filled in what the smell was... you could win a mystery prize!
At the time, I recognized it as an oregano smell, exactly like another scratch-n-sniff scent I smelled once that was supposedly "pizza". So pizza it was. I won a lovely, shiny new pizza-scented car deoderizer, in the shape of Earthbound's pizza delivery man.

Yep, pretty freakin disappointing.

The second one I knew the stakes from the beginning. The prize: A collector's gold n64 controller, with an emblem instead of a nintendo logo on the front. To enter, you had to beat certain lap times on Mario Kart 64 tracks, and you had to prove it with screenshots. I set up a camera and took an entire roll of film, sending each one individually, after carefully reviewing the contest's rules.

The gold controller was mine!

I ... guess I should come clean about this after Teebonesy talked about winning Nintendo Power contests.
Please remember after I post this that I was like 10 years old when I drew this.

I was in Nintendo Power for the "Create a Mega Man Robot" contest. Mine was Balloon Man. He shot balloons at mega man and when they popped, bombs came out of them. The drawing is actually quite awful, so I redid him a few years ago. You guys can laugh at me now. I deserve it.

The original ^^^

The one I did a few years ago, simply to redeem myself ^^^^

Holy crap, you did Balloon Man?? that's hilarious. That's way cooler than what I won. You actually appeared in the issue!

I should mention that my "gold controller" was just a regular controller spraypainted gold and with an adhesive plastic "emblem" stuck over top of the regular Nintendo logo on the front. That thing came off after a couple of days.

But I was still proud of my achievement, and to this day I believe that gold controller gave me special powers. I probably never would have gotten all those Blast Corps platinum medals without it.
