1500xp challenge.

Archive: 319 posts

Do you want to play a game?
http://i37.tinypic.com/29n6m1d.png
I have an over-abundance of xp - as such, I am giving 500xp away. All you have to do is post one word. It has to be a specific word, though. It's up to you to find out which word. If you work together, the prize will be distributed evenly to all contributors. That is all.

New rules: Each contributor to the final correct result who is ORIGINAL in his/her contribution gets a fraction of 400xp. The correct namer of the final word gets 100xp. Keep quiet, and you could win it all.

EDIT: MrsSpookyBuzz has kindly added 500xp to the pot! The final poster of the correct word gets 500 xp off the bat, the remaining 500 to be divided as above.

EDIT: It's been over an hour! Comphermc has added another 500xp to the pot! This means the final poster gets 750 xp, the rest to be spread.

EDIT: Important discoveries

1) Syroc highlights the OP, discovers hidden link
2) BSPRAGUE edits levels on image in link, discovers following text;

"mozaiq.org
NB: NOT with this image "

3) compher posits "Hmm... by choosing the correct image, we can place it in mozaiq to get the answer... that's where I'm guessing we can find the solution. Now, to choose the right picture..."
4) v0rtex finds the right image, but not the password. He hides it from everyone. Sneaky.
5) v0rtex owns up, reveals identity of the image to be MY AVATAR.
6) KlawwTheClown comphermc finds the correct password - lbpcentral. He reveals the following message:

"Well done for making it this far. Tricky puzzles give great rewards.

The hardest example would obviously result, detrimentally, in Sam Lloyd's outstandingly logical/lateral, invigorating, powerfully obscure puzzles.

There is but one step left. Can you solve it?"

7) comphermc then posits:

"Alright, I'm trying to look further into the hint:

"Well done for making it this far. Tricky puzzles give great rewards.

The hardest example would obviously result, detrimentally, in Sam Lloyd's outstandingly logical/lateral, invigorating, powerfully obscure puzzles.

There is but one step left. Can you solve it?"

What is meant by "The hardest example would obviously result, detrimentally..."? I'm not asking you Dawes, but everyone else."

8) SAGE SOLVES IT! The first letters of the phrase "The hardest example would obviously result, detrimentally, in Sam Lloyd's outstandingly logical/lateral, invigorating, powerfully obscure puzzles." form the phrase "The word is lollipop". Therefore - the final word was:

lollipop!

No it does not. There is a specific word required.

Out of the many millions of words in the english language, the chance of you GUESSING it is very small. It'll take you a lot of posts.

Get going?

Right, so we must narrow it down.

Is the world a tangible thing or item? For example, a toaster or a human?

In those last four posts, you've now MORE THAN DOUBLED YOUR ODDS. From 2/several million to 6/several million, you've guessed 3 times as many words!

Seriously guys, are you really going to keep guessing?

Lol, you're going to earn back all that XP given the number of posts that will probably be necessary for a correct guess (assuming that happens ever).

Um... biscuit

That's what, 20 words you've guessed with barely any basis? Not bad. Keep it up, it'll only take you a month or so of solid posting. As I say, what's invisible at first glance becomes apparent when you look closer.

Well done Syroc, dandygandy, and compher for actually following my hints. Syroc receives one fraction of the 400xp for following them first.

No, it is not underline. Nor is it yellow. Maybe your lateral thinking needs to focus more on linear thinking...perhaps a curve...or a circle...definitely something that ends up repeating itself, dandygandy.

I'm afraid it's not word. Nor link. And coxy, I do not! You remind me of my father...back when he used to come into my room, and he'd complain that I was hanging with the wrong people. He'd say that they were a bad influence, and I'd complain. I remember one time I ran from him and jumped out my window. My underwear caught on a tree, and all the people gathered as a swung, and hit me like a pinata, yelling "haha, you're a pinata!"

Also, thanks MrsSpooky! No correct answers yet.

OK, what others have found:

If you highlight my first post, you get a link.

The link is to an image, reading Good Luck.

If you edit the image's levels, you get the message:

mozaiq.org
NB: NOT with this image

No, look really closely at the top of the picture. In faint white letters, you can see some words. By fiddling with the levels of the image, you can work out what it says.

Sage, it'd have to be something static, so it's not the header of lbpc or my sig or anything like that, that's a given.

It's got to be something I was sure you'd find.

From his biography:

When Loyd was only 17, he invented his Trick Mules Puzzle which is deceptively difficult. The object is to cut apart the three pieces and then reassemble them so that the two jockeys are riding the mules. The puzzle was sold by Loyd to the American showman Phineas T. Barnum (of Barnum & Bailey Circus fame). Loyd earned some $10,000 from the puzzle. It is a typical Loyd puzzle. He was a master at making puzzles that appeared so simple to solve that people felt compelled to attempt them, only to find that they would spend hours unsuccessfully trying to figure them out.

Potentially related?

I noticed you spelt Loyd wrong, you used two "L"'s

Was that intentional?

The only hints about this final clue I've given are THINK LATERALLY and TAKE AN OUT OF THE WAY APPROACH

Sage, I thought it was Lloyd, purely because I've never seen the name "Loyd" before, only "Lloyd". Just a typo.

It's been over an hour, so you have an additional 500 xp to add to the pot.

Great thread, by the way.

I know some of you already know this but "lateral thinking" means indirect and creative approach.2009-10-17 23:41:00

No, silly from me... way back on like page 3 I said I'd add 500 xp as well if the answer hadn't been found in an hour.2009-10-17 23:43:00
