Last movie I saw the The Prestige last night. Great movie. Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and David Bowie. (Yes, THAT David Bowie) Rented it on Blu-Ray and it looked great. Great plot that really makes you want to see the movie again, just so you can pick up on all the things you missed the first time. 8/10 at least.

I went to see the new Harry Potter movie. I must say I was pretty impressed. I didn't think as much of the first few of them, but the last few have become pretty darn interesting. This last one has more of a Lord of the Rings feel with all the great set and cg work. Just seemed more huge, but I guess seeing it in an actual theater sorta helped!! Still some cutesy Potter moments, but can easily understand their inclusion. All and all pretty good movie. 9/10

Watchmen 2/10 Very dull (not interestingly dull), pretty boring story, nothing interesting happening really in my oppinion. EDIT: Before that though I saw Gran Torino and I would give it 9/10. Hm... I thought the story was amazing, and that the whole movie was great. :/ Anyways, I saw Deep Blue Sea Which I shall give a 7/10 It was cool, except it sharks that where smart, but not smart enough to do many obvious things, silly things that the characters could've done, but didn't, or something that did happen, but shouldn't of, and it was strange as whenever someone did something good to help the others, they would be eaten suddenly, and sometimes randomly.

The Haunting In Connecticut was the last movie I saw. I give it a 3/10. The kid with cancer (Kyle Gallner) was great, but all other acting was laughably bad, and the movie was a mess. It was a series of shock moments strung together and connected by a joke of a plot. Some "true stories" don't translate well into movies.

Saw Harry Potter at the cinema, I'll give it 9/10 simply because some of the key actors just aren't that good. I don't like the books, but the films have all been pretty good, if a tad predictable. Last DVD I saw was sex drive, which was actually suprisingly good (I was expecting something awful), probs a 7. I find it interesting that everyone is so divided on Watchmen. I can't wait for the extended version to come out on Blu Ray, will be awesome. And anyway, the plot isn't actually the most significant aspect of the Novel, Alan Moore was far more interested in the characters and general commentary on society and the superhero genre. The man is a genius, even if he does spend half his time shuffling round town dressed like a wizard

I love Office Space, so my expectations were sky-high, but I walked away feeling underwhelmed and disappointing. Anyway, earlier today I watched What the Bleep Do We Know!? If you're unfamiliar, it's a documentary heavy on quantum physics and the like. There's some pretty mind blowing stuff in there. But the last movie I saw was Public Enemies. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale were fantastic as usual, but the movie was mostly boring and typical Michael Mann; 30 minutes too long and unnecessary hand held camera work.

Just finished watching Equilibrium with Christian Bale. Intriguing plot, good story, and he gets a puppy. =p That said, the action scenes, while featuring some rather impressive gunplay, got to point of just being hokey and unrealistic. I give it about a 7/10. Would have been much higher (say 9) if some of the action hadn't been so lame. I still recommend it, though.

I really, really, really, want to see Ponyo. But, the last I saw was Coraline a couple days ago. Bought it along with The Cat Returns and Porco Rosso. Go see Ponyo! It's just wonderful in every conceivable way. I knew Myazaki would do something great, but I confess I wasn't too excited based on the trailers. I didn't like the design of Ponyo herself. Nevertheless, by the 15-minute mark, I was absolutely in love with this movie's world and characters. And it's got moments of really masterful filmmaking. Myazaki is incredible, I really do think he's one of the best movie directors working today.

Last night I finally saw Pan's Labyrinth, or El Labarinto del Faun (or some such). As you can see, it's in Spanish. The whole thing. Which I thought was cool, since it happens in Spain. Anyway, as good as the movie was, it was nothing at all like I thought it was going to be. I went into it expecting this really dark, maybe slightly disturbing, fantasy movie about a girl in another world. What I got was a movie about a girl who is really a princess of another world from "a long time ago" whose spirit has just returned. There are only a few fantasy creatures, as the entire movie takes place in Spain, following the girl carrying out three tasks to prove her princess-ship. When we're not watching Ofelia wandering around trying to put magic rocks in the mouths of giant toads or talking to a faun (arguably the coolest character of the whole movie) we're treated to watching a captain seek out guerrillas in the woods around his woodland estate. In fact, we see more of this then Ofelia. Needless to say, I was disappointed, but I can appreciate the movie for what it is. Sorry for writing so much, I just want to fully explain what really happens here. Anyway, 7.5/10

Watchmen? Dull? you're kidding right? Watchmen was great! Have you read the comic? because is was pretty much the best comic to movie transistion possible for the graphic novel. If you went into Watcmen expecting tons of action then you went into the wrong movie. Watchmen has the most intelligent storyline of any comic book movie. Watcmen is at least an 8.5/10. Gran Torino was alright, but the acting on Clint Eastwoods and the Hmong co-stars was just so bad it dragged the movie down to about a 6.5/10.

I STILL need to see Pulp Fiction! It was on TV the other day, but a storm rolled through so we had to turn everything that plugs into a wall off. Anyway, saw Windtalkers last night. WWII movie with Nicholas Cage and some Navajo guy whose name escapes me. It's all about the horrors of war and what it does to a man, physically and mentally. It's a hard movie to watch, to be sure, but it's also very well made. Solid 8/10

Just watched On the Waterfront. Such a great movie. It's about a guy who runs with the bad guys and comes to stand up against them. It's about making something out of your life. He's haunted by how his life's opportunities have passed him by, and there's no going back. Incredibly compelling character, Marlon Brando is amazing.

I just saw The Hurt Locker and it was pretty great. 8/10 I LOVED The Hurt Locker! This is by far the best war movie I've seen in YEARS. I thought it was a better movie than Full Metal Jacket. There's no character to match R. Lee Ermey, but I will stand by The Hurt Locker - I really think they made a better war movie with this than Stanley Kubrick did.

I love this movie so much, despite Nicholas Cage. This is like one of two movies featuring him that I really really like (the other being Matchstick Men.) Last movie I saw - last night - was Ichi the Killer. I was never really interested, but a friend recommended it to me. It's undoubtedly a very singular, stylized movie, but I just couldn't make myself care about the characters or the story. It wasn't so disturbing as its reputation may have you believe. It's based on an ultraviolent dark comedy manga. The violence is never realistic, it's always super-stylized, even to the extent of being cartoony. There's the occasional scene or fluorish or bit of visual filmmaking that works amazingly well. In one scene, a crucial gang meeting is held, only the leader of the gang appears via teleconference, even though the meeting is live in a restaurant. They play with this quite a bit, and I thought it was a really funny bit of visual filmmaking. I might still watch Audition, because I've heard this is a far more "grown up" movie compared with Ichi, but I don't know. I'll see if I'm in the mood to watch another Takashi Miike movie. I'm just not someone who's into horror/slasher/disturbo-violence, and Miike just seems to love pushing the envelope and trying to shock, and this can pretty easily distract from story and character if it becomes the centerpiece of a movie (see Gaspar Noe). I saw his segment of "3 Extremes", which involved such lovely shots as a close-up of a housewife using kitchen tools to mash up a pulpy pink meat substance on a cutting board. Yep, turns out the fountain of youth is human fetus meat. Thanks for that, Takashi! EDIT: Should mention my lady just saw "How to Train Your Dragon" and came back surprisingly impressed. I noticed an obscene 97% on rottentomatoes, but seriously, they give a free pass to family CG flicks. They really do. Also, regarding movie threads: No single movie thread has ever really stood the test of time, so I wouldn't worry about posting threads that have been done similarly before. This one may have a short life, and then in a couple of months, one of us movie buffs will notice that the subject of movies isn't being represented here, so we'll do it up again. It's the circle. Still don't know if I'll see it, but there aren't a whole lot of movies out right now that I'd go see. Blood Into Wine is a documentary about Maynard James Keenan's winery. Seeing that guy make wine sounds like enough movie for me, but alas, it only played here for a week and I missed it. Have to wait for that one.

And if you were in the room with me while watching, you would have known how much I loved it. I laughed like a maniac through the entire thing. I don't know what it was, but the expressions of the characters and some of the dry, dead pan dialogue just cracked me up. My family found it entertaining, but I think they started to laugh at me laughing at the movie more than the movie itself! Whoa, does that sentence even make sense? I think I'm loosing it again. Uugh... I just watched Audition. Not impressed at all. In the end it's pretty shallow and flat, and there's very little to recommend it aside from some interesting takes on dream/nightmare sequences. Movie feels like a first film or a student film... but in fact it was a decade into Miike's career, he was about 40 when he directed it. Ah well. I do think it's hilarious that most dvd covers for the movie make it look like a traditional torture-porn horror flick. Looking at the cover, you kind of go in expecting "Hostel", but in fact it's a pretty straightforward, if slightly strange little love story until the end when everything gets ultra violent, and not for any particularly strong reason except that in the end, it's revealed to essentially have the heart of a horror movie. It's really pretty shallow, and so many scenes are just incredibly flat and don't really have much in the way of mood or atmosphere. I really don't think this movie deserves its reputation as being one of the most disturbing movies out there, but then again maybe crap like Antichrist has just totally desensitized me. EDIT: Just wanted to follow up my previous post where I said that I had heard about how Audition was more "grown up" than Ichi the Killer. But now that I've seen both back to back, I think it's the other way around. Ichi is the ridiculous, even childish cartoon ultra-violent shock fest. Audition is 90% deadpan serious man-doing-dishes and man-sitting-in-traffic and man-having-serious-conversation-with-other-man kind of stuff, really really dry and earnest. But there was no filmmaking in Audition with a few small exceptions. I can't BELIEVE I'm saying this after sitting through Ichi, but seriously, Audition made Ichi the Killer look like some sort of filmmaking masterpiece.

I watched Night at the Museum 2 last night…not as good as the first one. They downplayed Teddy Roosevelt (so, Robin Williams), which detracted from it. But I'm no movie buff. Just saw Clash of the Titans 3D... it was cool. Not as epic as I'd hoped it would be... not really epic at all, IMO. But the 3D looked correct. No hokey in your face parlor tricks or out of focus brain pains, so that was a plus. But the whole story seemed a bit rushed and a touch stale. Visually, it was well done... but the acting and character development left a lot to be desired. 7/10

All they did was redo what was done before and then add a stale story line. I'd rather them have just done the original story through Burton's vision, but I guess Disney didn't want the classic to be treaded all over with Tim's dark presence. Too bad. It is visually pleasing. I did enjoy the acting and characters. But that story was just so... meh.

I finally got to watch "Moon" a few days ago and now I hate the oscars even more, the fact that Avatar got so many nominations while moon didn't even get one is disgusting, at the very, very least it should have been nominated for best original score, or maybe it's just me? eck. i didn't like children of men. it felt forced and a bit cliche? i dunno. at the scene where the pregnant lady is naked with the sheep i got fed up with it and quit. forced symbolism makes me sad. the hurt locker was really good man, i have never felt intensity like that from another movie! it takes a great director to create a film that gets my heart pounding - when all the character does is walk down an empty street.

Good films...... Well, i can certainly talk about books. Anyway, more films. Dark Knight for the win. Especially the Joker's epic pencil trick. Last of the Mohicans is great, so is Dances with Wolves. Music in Last of the Mohicans is the bomb, and Dances with Wolves has a great storyline. I think that's all the films i've seen recently. The last film i went to the cinema for was Did you Hear About The Morgans?, as Saulbecomespaul says it is actually quite funny. I thought Sherlock Holmes was brilliant. Another film if you haven't seen it you should watch is called Minority Report. Such a confusing plot, but the storyline is good, and when it comes together at the end, you get this moment when everyone you're watching the film with just goes "Ohhhhhhhh".

Dances with Wolves *Avatar. hahaha. had to be said. It is a little raunchy haha, which is absolutely hilarious as it conflicts with the innocence of the title character.

Clash of the Titans... A very powerful movie. I tried to just relax and enjoy myself instead of focusing on the nonsensical plot. The detail was staggering and the setpieces beautiful. I watched it too today......... it was all about the visuals... nothing more <___>

Watched 3 movies.. First we were waiting for Alice in wonderland 3D to start, so we went to watch Avatar, and man.. Avatar was gorgeous.. I thought Avatar wasn't going to be that good because my ego on graphics are indescribable comparing movies to video games, but wow, it proved me wrong... Alice in wonderland was alright.. wasn't expecting it to be that violent or trippy though. I do like the kitty though. haha And last we watched was The Crazies. That movie was boring and predictable.. garbage :[ and I thought it was a waste of time.. And yeah, we watched 3 movies that day.

I have recently watched Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. It was a good movie with lots of action. My favorite character was the old transformer. He even looked old with a beard and a cane! He was also pretty funny. When he's battling the decepticons, (one of them drilled through him) he says "I'm too old for this ****!"

Where the Buffalo Roam Not nearly as good as Fear and Loathing. It's not horrible, but it's not really good either. The plot is really random/non-existing, the acting is pretty over the top and it really doesn't make too much sense. Some of it is pretty funny, but it's just not enough. On a 1-10 scale, I'd give it 6.5.

Hubble 3D. Please... PLEASE... ANYONE who has access to an Imax theater showing this movie - go see it AS SOON AS YOU CAN. It's only 45 minutes. If you live in a city showing this movie, you have no excuse whatsoever. If you leave NEAR a city showing this movie, hunt it down immediately! If you live nowhere near a city showing this movie... Isn't it about time for a good old fashioned road trip? I took a 4-hour train ride to hunt it down, and I cannot imagine 45 minutes being more worth a trip. Iron Man. This might actually be my favorite superhero movie of them all. Yes, I think I actually like it more then Dark Knight and Batman Begins and I don't even like the Iron Man character more then Batman. Speaking of super-hero movies (I did looove Iron Man), Kick-*** looks really good... all my friends went to see it while I was at work I never did really like the Dark Knight, even beyond the annoying fans. Ledger was great and all but the dialogue got all cheeseball, especially at the end, and it sounded like Bale had something stuck in his rear the whole time.

I'm hesitant to see Kick-*** due to the fact that the original story was written by Mark Miller, whose work I never really liked past Superman: Red Son. Though I heard there were a lot of changes made in adapting it to film as well. Personally, the major criticisms I had with Dark Knight is that it had far too much content for a single film (I feel like they should have saved Two-Face for the third film) and Bale's narmtacular Batman voice, which wasn't so much of an issue in Batman Begins as he isn't in the costume as much and plays the part of Bruce Wayne much better in my opinion.

I read Ebert's review. It's not surprising. Ebert's always had sort of a sensitive stomach when it comes to "uncomfortable" content, to the extent that it pretty much blinds him from the rest of the movie. Another weakness of Ebert's is his almost total lack of knowledge of things not film. If it's a novel adaptation, he's never read the novel. If it's a comic book adaptation, well, he doesn't know a thing about comics. If he's talking about videogames, well it's pretty obvious from those opinions that he doesn't play many videogames. It just so happens that Kick-*** is a combination of both. It has some squirm-inducing content in addition to being based on a graphic novel that is chiefly concerned with the form of comic book traditions. So yeah, basically he couldn't get over a couple of scenes involving the character of Hitgirl. Violence + 10-year-old-girl was just too much for Ebert to stomach, and had no idea what the "comic book" context for all of it was. Just watch his review of Blue Velvet for another example of his inability to look past a bit of uncomfy imagery in order to honestly see what a movie's trying to do.

Yes, I loved The Wrestler. It was an incredibly well-paced movie, short and sweet, and without a single excessive scene. On the OTHER hand, I just saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's a Swedish mystery/thriller that's been getting a ton of buzz lately. It must have been at LEAST 2 and a half hours long, and I think easily could have been 30 minutes shorter. Lots of useless flashbacks that don't really help your understanding of the characters and mainly serve to just remind you that it was based on a mystery novel. This actress that plays the titular character, Noomi Rapace - She was amazing. Easily the best reason to see the movie. I'm not the biggest fan of this type of thriller for the most part, and this was definitely genre stuff. But the acting and some pretty striking frigid Swiss weather set it apart. I noticed that David Fincher is in development to do an American version. Which we need... why?? It wasn't like I had to hunt this movie down at some art-house theater. It was playing at the big blockbuster multiplex. Maybe because The Departed won so many oscars. Argh, I don't know. But even great filmmakers seem to be running out of ideas and turning to popular foreign films to remake these days...

2 movies! Thank You For Smoking - I've now seen all of Jason Reitman's movies (Juno and Up in the Air being the others). This guy's my age, and he's had 2 movies in a row up for best picture. That drives me crazy! But anyway, he's a solid filmmaker. I'm not a big fan of any of his movies. The thing that gets me is the snappy "Dawson's Creek Syndrome" dialogue and characters. Everyone's wittier and sharper and quicker than natural, and nobody ever acknowledges this. The world is just a world where people talk in constant rapid-fire snappy quips. All 3 of his movies are like this. Sugar - I was a bit mixed on this watching it, but by the time the credits rolled I really loved what they were doing. There's a bit too much thoughtful gazing for me. I feel like half of this movie is just the main character by himself, thoughtfully quiet and gazing at something. Basically, it's your run of the mill "rags to riches" sports story, except with one major, major difference. Up until now, these sports movies and biopics represent the 1% of the sports career population that make it to the top, and they operate as fantasies for the audience. This is one of the only movies of this type I've ever seen that represents the other 99%. The players that DON'T make it. The players that have more common lives, that don't make it to the Majors and have their own baseball cards. It's not a fantasy, it's just real life, a movie about one of us, not one of "them". The guys that end up working in a restaurant and living life. It was such a compassionate and honest movie I can't not love it and deeply appreciate it. I would say that this movie should be seen by children everywhere, except I honestly don't think any reasonable child is going to want to sit through 2 hours of reading subtitles and watching a guy by himself gazing. And there is a LOT of gazing.

The Fall - Tarsem's trippy movie about the power of storytelling. This is quite a time. He finds a good way to utilize his over-the-top theatrical artsy visuals (remember The Cell?), by making them into deliberately ridiculous and fantastical storytelling sequences. The actual story, which takes place in a hospital between a poor injured girl and a suicidal man, is incredibly engaging, and almost entirely because of this little girl. I don't think I've ever in my life seen a better performance from such a young actor (being about 6 years old). It was incredible. And I'm a little torn on it, because you can see a bit of how this happened in the making-of documentary. Tarsem is screaming at her, calling her stupid, and when she starts sobbing and crying, he demands that she immediately get in front of the camera and do it or else her acting will continue to be horrible. At the same time, she's clearly a tough girl and by the end of the documentary you can see that this stuff pretty much rolls off her shoulders. But you have to wonder what kind of psychological trauma this movie put her through. Sarah Polley's been pretty clear about how shooting Baron Munchausen really screwed her up, so... But anyway, the visuals are some of the most incredible I've ever seen, considering 90% of them are all real. You think you're seeing CG or matte paintings, or something fake - but you're not. Amazing, amazing images are presented over and over, and it's nearly all done for real.

It kinda felt like I was watching a very high-budget ScyFy original movie.. I mean, it was still marvelous - but it had some kind of real/fake vibe to it. I can't properly describe it. The artistry was still amazing, but the technical feats were just lessened.

Both are great movies, providing further proof that Gulliermo del Toro (I just know I spelled that wrong) knows how to make great movies. Though I do now want to watch Pan's Labyrinth again...

Vertigo - Great, great movie, but I think accidentally creepy in some ways. James Stewart as the love interest at his age, creepily obsessed with a 26-year-old girl, just seriously changes the dynamic of the relationship. Whereas you're SUPPOSED to occasionally feel a passionate tension between them, all I could really see was, "get out of there girl, the old man's giving you the EYES!" The love affair isn't based on them getting to know each other really well, it's based on sudden attraction, which doesn't really work if he's an obsessive old man and she's a young beauty. I love Jimmy Stewart, he's one of my all-time favorite actors, but I don't like seeing him as a creepy old perv, and Vertigo inadvertently did that to me. Aside from that, amazing cinematography and filmmaking. It's a "city film", and a really good one, perhaps the best portrait of San Francisco I've seen in a movie. But what can I say about the love story at the center of this movie, I just COULDN'T buy it. Edit: I'm listening to Deftones - Be Quiet and Drive, and the thought struck me how much this song fits Vertigo. Especially the lines "I dressed you in her clothes Now drive me far away" seem remarkably similar to the tone and content of the movie. Hmm, I have to admit, I'm not particularly into Iron Man, but I'll probably see it with some buddies this weekend. Watched The Cell last night for the first time since I saw it in the theater. Weird movie. I get the impression that the director Tarsem just had disdain for the investigation scenes and just wanted to get through them so he could indulge in his visual flamboyance during the mind-trips. The entire fbi investigation storyline is just ridiculous, overdone, predictable, and unbelievably run-of-the-mill, whereas the scenes inside the killer's head are totally unique, visionary set pieces. So what the hell? How is this movie both of these things at once? I don't think I can think of another movie I can describe as being both "unique and visionary" and "totally cliched and run-of-the-mill" at the same time. Also, holy crap is Vince Vaughn BAD in this movie! And I also just can't help but laugh at the end when Jennifer Lopez imagines herself as a saintly nun-like virgin Mary figure. What the hell. And she does a few things in the climactic scene which are just... they're ridiculous. What were they thinking. I guess they really wanted it to have a Hollywood style "showdown" at the end, even though the story up until then really didn't set it up for such a thing. A few amazing sequences don't save this movie from the other aborted 80%, but I would definitely watch this again - I'd just have to fast-forward through the filler and exposition.

Yep, I've seen Antichrist. One movie I saw just the other day that I've found myself occasionally regretting watching: Lars Von Trier's Antichrist. I think Von Trier's an interesting filmmaker, and I'm always curious to see what he's up to. Antichrist is a mixture of amazing filmmaking, obnoxious pretentious bullcrap (the hardcore calvin klein commercial prologue for example), and over-the-top shock-meister trash. I saw things in this movie that I would have been more than happy to never have to witness for the duration of my long life. The movie's full of powerful imagery, mood and a haunting atmosphere - but none of these things end up HAUNTING you because they're so overshadowed by a couple of short shock-gore sequences. You feel like you've watched 3 movies in one: An incredibly affecting atmospheric tarkovsky film, an extended Calvin Klein for Men advertisement, and the BME Pain Olympics. Thanks for that, Lars. Hey man, I'll save you the trouble and flat out tell you exactly what the nasty bits are if you want. I'm not kidding when I say they could have taken out just 2 little bits, and the movie would have been 100% better. There would still be a hefty dose of arty pretentious crap, a few inadvertently funny scenes (chaos... reigns!), and torture porn horror. But the movie would be way, way better and easier to take. It seems the only reason it's in there is to make it as hard to stomach as possible. For the morbidly curious, check the spoiler tag, but I'm not going to go into details. 2 instances of genital mutilation. Male and female. Each is graphically, x-ratedly explicit, and you will be a better, happier person for the rest of your life if you never see these. To be clear, they're just absolutely nasty and that's the bottom line. We don't need close-ups. We get close-ups. We don't WANT close ups. Well, we get close ups. Von Trier REALLY wants to get under your skin with this movie, and I think resorting to this sort of clearly exploitative business is a sign that he's unsure he can really do it with the rest of his movie. Last movie I've watched @ the theatre: Clash of the Titans 3D (3D? Pfffft. Hardly...) Last movie I've watched @ home: Conan: The Destroyer (INCREDIBLY CHEEZY; contains "some" blood and Schwartzeneggar before politics ) ... Next movie I'll most likely watch: Iron Man 2 or Avatar on Blu-Ray. Perhaps I'll watch both in the same day... ~_^

I just saw Iron Man 2 last night. It wasn't as good as the first one, but still enjoyable. I think I'm going to watch an old horror movie tonight called "Popcorn".

Also saw Iron Man 2 today. Not too impressed... Most of the time, just not much was happening. At all. What's Mickey Rourke got to do in this movie? He's supposed to be the villain, but he basically hangs out, does some tinkering occasionally. Good lord. Just nothing happening. How do you make a sequel like this post-Dark Knight? Don't you AT LEAST have to raise the stakes a little? You definitely don't LOWER the stakes!! Also saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I thought this looked like a total waste of time. Turns out it's quite funny. It's really breezy and feels like just a long-ish episode of Invader Zim. Actually worth a watch for some decent yuk yuks.

As far as iron man 2 goes, I thought the pacing was all wrong. There was nothing for a long time and then a big burst of action at the end. When Iron Man was beating people up, it was fun, but they spent far too long explaining things without a break for things to be blown up. And I'm quite surprised to hear that cloudy with a chance of meatballs was funny. It looked like absolute rubbish from the previews. And I didn't end up watching Popcorn. My friends just played street fighter 4 all night.

I watched The Box last night starring Cameron Diaz and.. not sure. My brother fell asleep during it if that says something lol but yeah, a bit slow. Possibly spoilfest.. Kinda weird and kinda ridiculous at times. Stranger turns up at door with button machine, press button.. a million dollars! BUT... someone dies, oh sorry the lightning people are testing you.... Just plain silly I thought, was not compelling really. The concept was really unbelievable to me. The ending was just meh too, I didn't feel emotional at it, it was just a moment which I pretty much got for the whole movie! Avoid if you can is what I'd say but I'm no movie critic. Beware is all I'll say!

It was so goooood. Can't believe we were the only 4 people in the theater when we saw it though. Shaaame. I really liked Moon as well. I'm thrilled for Duncan Jones' followup. He calls it a "city film" in the spirit of Blade Runner. It takes place following the events of Moon and will have at least a cameo of Sam Bell back on earth. But the story is centered elsewhere. Anyway, that info's enough to get excited about. The entire script's not hard to find online if you wanted to dig into it, but I'm staying away - don't want to spoil it for myself. One of the greatest parts of Moon was just watching it unspool and not knowing where it was taking you. I saw The Last Emperor tonight. Beautiful movie, I loved it. Quite a bit of pretty bad acting on one hand, and it's weird to see so many actors I recognize from more mainstream 80s stuff like Big Trouble in Little China and Twin Peaks. But it really was a gorgeous epic, and an incredibly interesting story.

The Last House on the Left. Thought it was a great movie. I was physically shaking at times although not sure if the slight chill in the air amplified it I found the whole idea very unsettling. Not sure if I would be so welcoming as the family were if 4 really dodgey looking individuals turned up at my door in the middle of the night. The only thing that bugged me was the very end, something happens involving a microwave, very unbelievable. Would that actually happen? I thought it was very realistic right up until that point which took me out of the state of disbelief. Other than that I'd say it's well worth a watch if you like thrillers. It was the remake by the way.

I just watched the remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and it was ok. It's not as cool as the original and not as blood either but the new Krueger was very convincing though I missed the old face all the time! I read that the actor for the remake even visited the casting for the original movie back then!

Finally got to see Avatar. I rented it on DVD. Was ok. 3D must make it instantly amazing or something. Just what I expected, over-hyped. Pandora variants have existed in video games (conceptually at least) and the general public have never experienced them until now which is pretty sad. I did like the creature designs (my fav being the hammerhead rhinos with feathers), I just which they showcased more kinds of creatures. Best part was when the rhinos made their second appearance. I love when nature rises up and sticks it to the man.
