Source: http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/966/966725p1.html US, March 26, 2009 - The Hideo Kojima Keynote at GDC was a hilarious speech that covered the entire scope of the Metal Gear franchise and everything that designing the series entailed. With graphics that featured a conceptual Snake leaping, climbing and occasionally falling from stumbling blocks, it was truly entertaining. However, there was definitely something that stood out towards the end of the presentation. As Kojima was mentioning the distinction between Japanese designer driven games and Western technology driven games, he mentioned that he felt that a combination of the two methods should be used. He stated that this was the direction that he felt Metal Gear should go, and as the animation played out, a frame stopped with large letters stating: the next MGS. The startling thing was standing behind these words ? a conceptual figure of Raiden stood behind this phrase with his back turned towards the screen. It was tiny, but it was distinctly the cyber ninja. Could this mean that Raiden will definitively be the focus or the hero for the next Metal Gear Solid game? Plenty of speculation has raged online since Metal Gear Solid 4, primarily because so much was made about the end of Snake. While there obviously were no details given in the keynote, simply having Raiden present is a large tipoff to the direction of the new game. It also raises another question: could this potentially be the game that Kojima mentioned yesterday in his interview with us? Time will tell, and we'll bring whatever news is announced at E3 about Kojima's next project.

Could this mean that Raiden will definitively be the focus or the hero for the next Metal Gear Solid game? Noooooooooooooooooooo! Bring back some random thing that solid snake did at some random time that changes the storyline completely, more fun in my oppinion. I just don't like playing as Raiden, he does cartwheels and stuff. >_< EDIT: I want a Metal gear MMO! That could be fun, but I got bored quickly with the MGS4 online mode. It took longer to update it and sign up to it more than anything.

I'm honestly torn. Even tough I want to play more MGS, there's some problems with making new games. 1. MGS4 gave the series so much closure it would almost be a sin to make another game. 2. YOU CANNOT HAVE MGS WITHOUT SNAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

Actually, if the gameplay is pretty different and ninja-esque... this could turn out great. As it should be so different from the rest of the series it will feel real fresh. Ofcourse, there's the all important story line to it, and that's what they've really got to be careful about. I spent so long on the ninja levels on MGS VR Missions... if there was a full game implementing such gameplay (obviously alot more advanced than PS1 lol) it could be just utter awesomeness. And since they are doing another game, I'd rather someone else other than Snake. Otherwise they'll just end up repeating themselves. Snake has had his day. And should still call it Metal Gear Solid. Making it Metal Gear Raiden would be most illogical.

Having to sneak into Area51... plays a bit like MGS2 i suppose... and then 1/4 way through you get caught and then the story goes on from there about becoming the ninja and escaping and what not. Would be cool if it went into MGS4 a bit too. See a few different angles to the story.

They did one for 'Big Boss' (original Snake), inbetween MGS3 and 2 sort of time (MGS Portable Ops, PSP). However, after MGS2, Raiden throws away his dog tags and is told to find his own path by Solid Snake, he does return to fight in MGS4 though. So I suppose they could do a game from just before MGS4 time, then again, he was supposed to be with 'Big Mama' (Eva) and the rest of her team. It would be great if they made a game where you play as Raiden in the MGS4 storyline, like killing the Gekkos and fighting Vamp. It would be possible to add loads of things that Raiden did when Old Snake wasn't there. I have thought of this before aswell: it would be really fun to play as RATPT01 and do loads of side-missions that wouldn't effect the storyline. Also doing some of the things from the cutscenes like trying to take away Liquid on the boats and holding back the Robotic type 'Preying Mantis' Soldiers(forgotten if they have proper names) at the end as Meryl and Johnny (Akiba). They should do something where you have to pick one member of the team to play as or play as all of RatPT01 by switching between people. It could have squad commands and stuff aswell, that would make for really ineresting gameplay.

A metal gear MMO just wouldn't work IMO. MGS has always been a very linear game...

I think a Metal Gear Raiden game could be sweet, I kinda see it taking a gameplay approach similair to devil may cry. with guns and swords. swordplay with raiden could be awesome in combination with pistols and acrobatics, the game would have to be a lot more fluent then MGS4 though,

It would still be a stealth game. And probably a huge difference from any other MGS too. Really, the possibilities of the next MGS game could be outstanding.

What I meant by point 2 is, MGS1- Snake can be played as MGS2- Snake is there MGS3-Big boss is practically identical to Snake. MGS4- You play as an old snake. But yes, I would like a cobra unit game. That would be so awesome.... I want to be a pyromaniac astronaut witha flamethrower

Hmmm. I just don't think a cobra unit game would be fun at all. There probably wouldn't be too much stealth either... Cool idea though. I'm just excited about the prospect of sneaking around area 51 as a ninja xD

It would have much more gameplay than the Cobra Unit, although the Cobra Unit would be fun it would be hard to keep the storyline the same. If you were fighting Snake then you would ave to get beaten every time. Actually though I just wouldn't mind playing as Raiden, as long as he is the same as on MGS4, I hated having to play as Raiden in MGS2.

Holy crap, it just hit me: You play as Raiden's SON! I thought of that, but i dunno... why would Raiden let him do such a thing if he just wants family life now? I don't want any games to be set after MGS4... purely cause MGS4 rounded up the story perfectly. Though i suppose playing as Raidens son would mean a totally fresh story from scratch (almost obviously. not totally) which could be cool i suppose.

I had forgotten about it though, it could be that Hideo Kojima wasn't sure if he would make any more MGS games but still left it open for more anyway. why would Raiden let him do such a thing if he just wants family life now? Well at the end of MGS2 he threw away his dog tags and was going to stop fighting because snake had told him to find his own path. Kojima changes it as he goes along to fit the storyline.

Being able to play as Otacon through the MGS games he was in, that would be THE ULTIMATE Metal Gear game! Yeah, and you would get to shout "SNAAAAAAKE" occasionally, and sit on a computer all day in a plane. The online would be immense! There could be different modes online like Hacker, where you hack another Otacon's computer and Mk.II battle: battle with MkIIs. I suggest you tell Kojima now!
