Level description corrupted after publishing?

Archive: 25 posts

Hi Community,

yesterday, i've published my new level after many weeks of hard work.
But a weird bug happened:

The level-description shows up only as
"++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++"
(I tried publishing the level many times - always the same result).

I wrote a little story about the level and I do NOT think, that people would play a level with this +++++++ as a description :-/

On the "my levels"-moon, the description is just fine.
What's wrong there?

(sorry if this was asked before - i searched the forum for "level description bug" and found nothing useful).

I hope you can help me!
Thanks a lot

What is the description? That is, what is the exact text? My guess would be that you have used one of the many censored words somewhere in the text. Check out this thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6932) for a list.2009-03-26 13:31:00

Definitely sounds like one of your words is being cencored2009-03-26 13:40:00

Definitely sounds like the censoring system's work. Can you post the description here? I'm sure I can pinpoint exactly what's causing the problem.

I hadn't considered that the censoring also works on level descriptions... I'll have to keep that in mind.

Yep, don't forget to look for words CONTAINED in other words. The word "Opened" was causing MrGenji a problem at one point.2009-03-26 14:35:00

ok, i'll check that - thanks for the info.
I'm quite sure, that my description contains "happened"...
so I have to rephrase that.

I'm at work right now - but i'll check that later at home.
But you can be sure, that i've NOT used any rude or censored word (It's a fairytale-storytelling-style description...) - it can only be possible, that a word could CONTAIN one of the censored/forbidden words ;-)

thanks a lot folks for this tip

Yeah... I got hit by "computer" because of "puter". Who knew?

I had the same problem... I am so glad you posted this...

I have a magic mouth giving thanks to people, and MrSuperComputer's psn contains "computer" in it obviously. - and I thought it was for someone else's psn.

I think it is retarded that their censoring system doesn't allow these words. "Computer" is a standard word.

Yeah, I'm sure they will tweak it. It's one of those things that needs to be carefully adjusted over time, because if they don't people WILL find a way to make obsene words stick out in the sentences.2009-03-26 16:01:00

You and me both.

I've never seen such a badly written censoring algorhythm. Not only because it censors benign words, but mostly because it keeps completely quiet about it! You are never told if your chat bubble, magic mouth or level description is censored and why. You have to painstakingly check every single one yourself (in the case of chat, you have to hope your friends will tell you that your chat bubble came up as "***********") and then figure out why it's censored (trust me, it's far from always being evident, see "Osiris" and "Entering" in the Odd censored words thread).

Most people will just think it's a bug during publishing or a network error (like I initially did) because you are never told it's a censoring system. I find this highly underhanded and ridiculously overbroad. A braindead, one-armed platypus tied to a locomotive full of screaming babies which is about to crash into an aircraft carrier that's on fire could have come up with a better system.

(Can you tell that I don't particularly like the censor system? )

Wex, if I ever come out to Ireland I'm gonna buy you a beer!

Gilgamesh - you definately have point, though - I understand WHY it's the way it is (title - "The dog that oPENEd the back door"!!! hee hee) , however it would definately help if it told you it was going to be censored when you entered the text.

They are probably slowly building an exception list, however - so the letters "pene" CAN exist if contained in the word "opened". So that slowly the issue would go away.

It WAS a censored-word problem.

My devlish, absolutely rude and bad word was "glittering"... ;-)

Thanks for your help - I thought it is a bug.
But hey - glittering? censored? ;-)

Won't someone think of the children? They can't be exposed to things such as "computers", "grapes" and "glittering". Their fragile minds don't have the same defenses that adults have for those kinds of things! 2009-03-26 19:25:00

On a slightly more serious note, this is just absolutely ridiculous. I mean SERIOUSLY.

Maybe "ova" in "unremovable"?

Upon testing, "glitched stickers *unremovable*" is not censored at all. Did you forget a word in there?

Hmm.. i've dealt with this problem myself a couple of times, the best advise i can give you is to slightly misspell the word to avoid cencorship, but not enough to make the word not understandable.
For example, instead of happened, just write happend, or habbened, or for computer write compeuter/ compuder.
That way your text remains as intact as possible. Hey, i rather have a couple of purposely mispelled words than having to change the wording of my whole sentence just for a small mistake. right?

Good idea on that one... I have mrsupercomputer's name in a thanks balloon on the level I am almost done with, and it was blocking it out.

I never imagined a psn could be a censored word...
