***LittleBigPlanet is NOT region locke*******

Archive: 27 posts

Hi all, as many of you may have heard already in an interview at Leipzig the senior producer for LittleBigPlanet announced that the game is region locked. This is in fact not the case, and all shared levels in the game will be available worldwide. The confusion arose out of regional differences in how moderation will work as there are different legal rules each region have to play by, and at one point this looked like it may require the game to be independent in each region - however this has been worked around and there will only be one region for the game.... a LittleBigRegion.

Apologies for any confusion over this issue, however I'm pretty sure you're happy with the result.

(Sorry about the copy/paste response but I've a few threads to cover on this topic)

Yup, it looks as though it's true. Sam on the boards here confirmed this as well, who happens to be the same source posting on the European PS boards as well:

Oddly enough that's because it was reliable. The original quote came from Pete Smith (who I work alongside at SCE Liverpool) who is senior producer on the game - you don't get much more reliable than that.

The thing here is that he had not been made aware that we were able to resolve the moderation issue that made it look like we'd have to go region locked, so when asked gave the wrong answer.

It happens, but we're spreading the word now to make sure everyone knows the truth.

You guys need better communication in your company. If the lead producer doesn't know about something, that's a bad sign. 2008-08-24 12:47:00

Anyway, thank you for clearing this out so quickly. I thought that an answer would come like a week or two later. This was really quick, so thanks.

Yep, I thought it was reliable, too. This is very, very reassuring news. Goes to show that MM really takes the community aspect seriously, as from Pete Smith's quote it's apparent that they were really close to having it region locked, but seemingly worked hard to fix this problem and fixed it.

Didn't take the easy way out. This is a huge thing, regarding the potential of the LBP community.

EDIT:
It's cool that this quote of mine didn't have to stand and my expectations were met, yet again.

This info is the first one that really displeases me. And frankly I was expecting that the levels would be distributed worldwide, even if we couldn't play with everyone.
