http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/03/katamari_damacy_tribute.jpg Namco Bandai is paying tribute to fan favorite franchise Katamari Damacy with, um, Katamari DamacyTRIBUTE. It's slated for release this year. According to Famitsu, this game is the first in the series to output in 1080p, aka full HD. The in-game placed items have been increased drastically, and there's a new black & white stage as well as a new game play mode. There are tunes from the likes of Leah Dizon and YMCK, among others.

I played KD and We Love Katamari... seriously fun games, and so easy to pick up even if you're a non-gamer. I'm really interested to see what the PS3 is capable of doing with the series.

The first Katamari Damacy was never actually released in PAL territories (aka Britian, Europe, Australia, New Zealand). Something about the audience not appreciating it enough. So to have the original redone in HD sounds great, as it will allow us to play this game legitimately without having to import.

Namco might be seeking reparations among PS3 owners for giving them the shaft on launch of "Beautiful Katamari", which was the third Katamari title, and released exclusively on X360. "Katamari Damacy Tribute" is supposedly a collection of former Katamari titles (perhaps all three?). It's going to be a PSN title by the sounds of it, and nobody's commented on whether it will be available outside the JPN PSN Store. Cross your fingers.

I wasn't too fond of the xbox360 katamari, but I LOVED the two for the playstation 2. I'm quite excited about this game!
