Dissolving Glass

Is there a way besides creature brain and cow glitch to dissolve glass? I added and glued it to dissolve material but it stays once the idssolve is gone.2009-03-25 08:27:00

I think the only other ways are crushing it completely, and using an emitter.

This should be in the Help! section.

You can't crush gas, objects pass through it. I haven't found a way to dissolve gas myself. I've tried hooking up a piece of dissolve and then turning it into gas, but the wires turn red and the dissolve doesn't work when it should. Your best bet is to use emitters.

EDIT : This is what happens when you try to reply to something while still asleep. Disregard this comment.

Ah, terribly sorry. I've just woken up and am somewhat still asleep. My bad.

You could crush glass with a heavier material such as stone or metal (glass is pretty heavy itself).

Is there a particular reason that it's glass that you want dissolved? Is it an obstacle such as a wall or part of a contraption?

It is kind of complicated to explain. It would be great if the player could look through the "stone" because it is important to him to know what is behind it.

The problem is ... it is a part of a contraption and I can not do it via emitter since the object has been emitted already. The player has to combine some things that are emitted, so I can not handle it via a "Max emitted" counter since more than one emitter is involved.

I did make a mechanism that kind of "counts" when to dissolve an object that is at the lowest position. And dissolving works fine, but the glass keeps standing around.

I'm pretty excited about this contraption - will not spoil it - but this problem kind of destroys my idea.

Well .... although I do not like it ... how exactly does this cow glitch work and can I used glitched glass from the cow glitch level like normal glass?

I havn't tried this but...

Can't you put a brain on it and make it a "creature" and hook a one shot switch to the brain to "kill" it. If the brain is off screen it would look like it dissolved.

For one thing, I want to avoid that. It would work but how should I make the brain of screen? It has to be connected to the glass somehow.

And the second problem with this is, everytime one stone with the glass in it gets dissolved, the player that stands the closest gets points for "destroying" a creature. Which is why I do not like this solution.

This is true, but I think the only other option is cow glitch. If you don't have any, someone else on this forum must.

Play a level called 'Mooo' by TJapan. You can get glitched glass from there, then just use it like regular dissolve material.2009-03-25 13:30:00

Oh well then i will do that, Hope that Mm never deletes that in someway, but it is really frustrating to not simply be able do dissolve anything.2009-03-25 13:44:00

I don't exactly understand why you can't use a brain. Looks like i'm dumb and need more explanations.

Anything sticked together will be considered "a creature". Can't you link the 2 parts of your thing (the thing you want to dissolve and the part with a brain that would be offscreen) by a very thin (invisible) dark matter?

You know you can hook switches to brains right? You could dissolve your whole thing by a grab switch maybe? Proximity?

To quote myself:

That is why I do not want to use the brain. It would be like an exploit since the player can spawn those stones, he would get points everytime he hits the button.

And I got no way of connecting the glass over darkmatter or anything.

Yeah, i've got every color of glass glitched to have dissolve. in order to use it, once gotten from the level, place the entire "dissolve" object in a level, and separate the materiel you want. capture it as an object, and then use the captured object like you would any other material.

the only exception is, do not make it a gas again, nor should you use the material changer, or you will lose the glitched properties. glad to help!

Ok, I will look into this. I do not like to use glitched material since we never know if Mm will delete this bug sometimes for good but since it is the only good solution to my problem I will do so.2009-03-26 13:53:00

You can easily get that glitch yourself, you don't need to play TJapans level. you just need to place some dissolve, gasify it with the color you want and then capture, paste, de-gasify and fianlly capture again.
Then to use it you just need to take it out and use it like a normal material except that you need to dot it out instead of dragging it so that you can make lines etc..

So the glitch is back. I'll look into it but I could give credit to TJapans work, too. 2009-03-26 15:44:00

The cow glitch was fixed but not the scribble effect/green glass glitch. I think they don't really want to fix it because of the really cool effects you can make with it.2009-03-26 17:57:00

my trick from my level "new material"

un-lethalize a plasma ball and glue to the cristal, with only touch the plasma ball erase the glass

Put an emiter one a 180 degree wobble bolt. Then have it emit the glass where you want it. Then rotate the emiter on the bolt, and emit another when you want to rid the first. The set it to max emited at once to 1 and lifetime to infinite.2009-03-27 05:27:00

dkjestrup: no this would not work with the machine I have in mind. Thanks for the effort, though. I keep this method in mind.

I did it with the glitch that Marklin80 described and it works now as I want it to. Thanks a lot guys.
