Sticker Based Encryption Tool?

Archive: 5 posts

Does anyone know of or have an encryption tool or have experience using one?

Here's the scenario:

I'm currently building levels that begin with "character selection." Basically each player chooses one of four "characters" each of which can use a single sticker to do special things throughout the level. The implementation of this is fairly straight forward.

However, I want to have a "secret" character, which can be selected and grants the player all four powers. I'm currently doing this with a special sticker (bringing the number of stickers for the level from 4 to 5). My current set-up basically allows a player to earn the special sticker by completing optional challenges over the course of multiple stages.

My original goal, however, was to make the secret character unlockable by completing each level with all 4 basic characters. This is optimal because it makes each level completely self contained. This proved impractical due to the number of extra stickers that would be required. However, with an encryption tool, I could make it password based and just give players pieces of the password for completing the level with each of the basic characters.

I'm pretty sure I can make one on my own, but does anyone have a ready built one? Alternatively, does anyone have any experience building one and have advice of things to do and avoid?

I have two big requirements.

1) Low thermo usage.
2) Changeable password (as I will be using it in multiple stages).

My key room for 00Sack - Betrayed was given a few nice compliments before I unlocked the level. You are welcome to it (not currently shareable, but I can change that easily enough for you). Take a look and see if it (or parts of it) would do the trick for you. Don't know about it's therm appetite though, as it was of no concern to me as I created it.

Level: 00Sack - Betrayed (key room)
PSN: v0rtex2002 (the 0s are zeros)
The PW is: 1994
Location: Somewhere in South America

EDIT: Have changed the level to copyable. Have at it if you like (I would suggest just cutting away one of the tumblers and it's logic. The rest is fluff anyway).

(Oh... and check out the new level (thread in sig)... let me know what you think!)

Wait, if they play through the level 4 times, couldn't they get all of the stickers anyways?2009-03-24 12:16:00

I used a different implementation than the one you are thinking of. All the stickers are offered at the beginning with character selection. The character selection tool itself is not based on collecting the stickers. Each player may select one character. My character selection tool knows which characters have been selected and only the corresponding sticker switches become active. Using a sticker for a character that wasn't selected at the start of the level results in a message saying "you don't have that power" and nothing happens. So to do everything you must either play 4 player or have unlocked the secret character.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'll be sure to check it out when I'm back in the country and have access to my ps3.
