Must Watch: Kings

Archive: 15 posts

Ok, go to nbc dot com right now and watch the series premiere of "Kings". Discuss it here.

I really don't want this show to be a one and done series lasting just a season. So tell your friends, and your family, and everyone you know... You must all start watching this show, just because I like it.

No but seriously, this is an AMAZING show thus far - and if you ever wanted to get something from a video game message board that will change your television world, this is your chance.

Now that I've talked it up, you won't like it due to the hype, so now you must go watch it thinking it is just some show...

...and then be blown away!

Agree that it's great. The first two episodes are very well done and it appears it's going to only get better.2009-03-24 12:02:00

Just in case anyone is on here, Kings airs SUNDAY night on NBC, either 8 or 9 Eastern US sea board time.2009-03-29 09:32:00

Don't get too attached to the series.

Despite generally positive reviews, with some calling the project the most original new drama of the season, "Kings" (6 million viewers, 1.6 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and 4 share) was the lowest-rated program between 8 and 11 p.m. on a major broadcast network. Its two-hour debut was on par with this season's other bottom-of-the-barrel premieres, like last week's reality show "Chopping Block" and former Friday night adventure "Crusoe."

And finally, NBC. The second week of "Kings" (4.6 million, 1.3/3) dropped a disappointing 19% to a below-the-line number (saving this piece of news for last isn't burying the lead; it's attempting to shield industry readers from starting their week on yet another downer note). "Celebrity Apprentice" (7.3 million, 2.9/7) now back at 9 p.m. and two hours, gained slightly from last week's low.

That's really two bad that Kings is getting the same amount of viewers as a reality show and that horrible Crusoe...

For NBC, "Kings" (4.4 million, 1.3) was on par with last week.

This show started up again, and my god the last few episodes were soooo amazing! Anyway I doubt this show makes it to next year.2009-07-13 16:06:00

I've heard nothing but great things about this show, but for some reason I just never got around to watching it. I'll definitely try to check it out if the episodes are still online.2009-07-13 19:27:00

I was sort of interested with this show from the previews and commercials, but never got a chance to watch it.

That's great the whole season is on NBC.com, I'll be able to watch it now!

I've been watching this on Hulu for the past couple of days in my spare time. I think I've got something like 4 or 5 episodes left to go. Utterly fantastic show. Why didn't I hear about it before? It's too bad NBC didn't order another season. Such a loss - I hope another network picks it up, because I'd gladly make time to watch it.2009-07-17 06:40:00

I catch it each Sunday morning on Hulu and have absolutely loved it from day one. Really is too bad that everything comes down to ratings. That said, did they really expect CSI ratings in a Sunday night slot? Sad...2009-07-21 15:42:00

It comes down to two things, really - slow fanbase growth and mismarketing. The show is deep and complicated - it makes for a fantastic experience, but it's much more difficult to enjoy an episode if you haven't seen the previous one (though the "Last time on 'Kings'" parts do help). Due to that, it's taken a while to build up a fanbase (I'm still meeting people with no idea what it is - I just got my friend hooked on it). Plus, NBC really mismarketed (see below) the whole show. The ads didn't really get across the fantastic acting, deep characters, or carefully woven storyline. They just tried to simplify the show's premise into a "hero against the world" plot. That's one aspect of the show, but it's definitely not the only aspect, and the ads did a horrible job of making the show seem interesting.

Yeah it breaks my heart that this is going to be a one season wonder, like firefly and daybreak. The last few episodes have absolutely blown me away, and I can tell they are wrapping up as a show, not just as a season as they get down to the finale.2009-07-22 11:31:00
