Invisible platforms

Must be on forums somewhere, but been searching in vain. How do you create an invisible platform? I've seen a few levels with the "leap of faith" concept, and would like to play around with it. | 2009-03-23 17:23:00 Author: Unknown User |
Either dark matter or rubber can be made invisible by switching off the grid and tweaking the cursor size down as small as possible. Hope this helps! | 2009-03-23 17:36:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
It can actually done with many solid materials other than dark matter and rubber by grabbing them when they are as small as possible and shrinking them down further. | 2009-03-23 17:40:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |

How do you shrink it down while grabbing them? | 2009-03-23 18:18:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
I think he mearly means 'shrinking them down while being selected by your popit cursor'. And you can indeed make any material invisible if you manage to shrink it enough. Even metal, but to do tat it has to be smaller than you can shrink individually selected materials. (But if you take the smallest possible streak of metal you can paint with a material brush (which is still visible) and then glue it onto something bigger, you can shrink both again and even the metal will become invisible). The general rule for knowing if a material can be painted invisibly thin right away, is to see if it has a curvy or bumpy surface like floaty, rubber or dark matter. | 2009-03-23 18:38:00 Author: Wonko the Sane Posts: 109 |
Very good to know. | 2009-03-24 19:40:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
As they've said before, you can make any material invisible by making a thin long line and shrinking it. it is also possible to make invisible complex figures by just doing a thin outline/ making it out of different small squares and shrinking the shape until it becomes invisible. Hope that helps. | 2009-03-24 23:19:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Another good use for an invisible material is to make invisible dangers (fire, electricity and gas). Before you shrink the material down put one of the dangers onto it. Once it's shrunk, it can still work as a danger. An interesting thing to do with this is to make the player die unexpectadly by attatching it to an invisible piston or something and moving it as an obstacle or a door etc. You could create disappearing boundries aswell: attatch all the switches and logic gates needed to the dissolve material, make it dangerous and then invisible by shrinking it. Then you could have a scenario in your level where you instruct the player to do something before moving on and then it would be a surprise if they tried to skip through part of the level. | 2009-03-25 00:00:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
That would be funny but it would be a real pain to deal with. Also, imagine you have gas attached to a piston. (Where you attached it to dark matter, then the gas) Make the minimum length 0.0 and... an invisible piston to go with your invisible gas | 2009-03-25 20:27:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
Another way of doing it is via corner tool. It's probably quicker for simpler shapes. Materials act very oddly when invisible/thin. I made a thin piece of sponge and it flipped all over the place on the slightest touch. | 2009-03-25 20:32:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Probably b/c it was so light. | 2009-03-25 20:51:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
Many others have said it but you can make invisible platforms by either making dark matter or rubber as small as it can be or place any other kind of material and then making it as small as you get it (I didn't know the second way at first so thanks to those who stated it). I usually have some trouble when selecting an invisible platform again by the popit cursor when I make it by the first method though. | 2009-03-25 22:56:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
If you hold down X with the popit cursor and drag, you can select the area it's located in and it should select if for you. | 2009-03-25 23:48:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
It's useful to select the invisible platform with the method above then deselect it, before adding anything else to the level. It means that you have a glowing section where the invisible thing is. And Sawron, it fell pretty fast, it didn't look light. I think it was sheer glitchiness. | 2009-03-26 10:02:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Hmm. Well, I don't think any of these were intended to be invisible. (Except maybe dark matter) | 2009-03-26 18:02:00 Author: SawronZXZ Posts: 463 |
