Is someone trashing my level?

Archive: 12 posts

I suddenly get alot of plays in no time, all tagging it with random negative tags, that simply does not fit. "Musical", "Boss", "Race", "Vechicles", "Spikes" etc. none of them is true. Adding to my suspicion, there are no new entries on my leaderboard. The only weird thing is, that the star-rating is the same, namely 4/5.

How easy is it to trash other peoples levels, rating, and tags?

I have been posting some opinions on levels on these and the gamefaq boards.. Maybe someone got offended by honest feedback.

Is this common?

*Sigh*

There is only 1 level I've played more than once (aside from my own levels) and I can't remember if you can vote keywords more than once per individual per level. If you can, than yes, it is easy to trash a person's level. You might concider re-publishing and re-advertising. I'd wait and see what others suggest on this forum though.

Sadly IT IS easy to trash a level and there's even a part of the community doing just that. Innocent kids and stupid casual players.

Well I've seen the level showcase thread for this level and from what I've heard this level seems fun and original. If it really was one or a few people then I would recommend going into create mode, putting some material in the far corner out of sight, save it and republish it over it's self. This will keep the plays, hearts and tags the same but will move it back onto the front page of community levels. By the way, the reason for the material in the corner was because if you don't change the level in some way then it won't reappear on the front page.

EDIT: As for the star rating thing, maybe one person's vote can only count once and if you're getting unrelated tags and a lot of plays this also backs up that some sad person has kept going into you're level and rating it one star (even though it wasn't changing the star rating) and tagging it with whatever. Either all that or multiple people have not thought about the star rating and skiped through it on the dafault star rating for your levels (four stars) and just tagged it with anything.

if it got a lot of plays in no time, and has weird tags, this is probably what happened:
someone got angry and thought: "I am going to wreck his star rating and give him horrible tags" ... but I'm sure this person didn't understand that the star rating only counts once. Tags, I believe, count more than once though. Unfortunately, you can just go into someone's level, quit out and give it a tag. That's probably what said individual did.

This is very sad if this has happened to you. Unfortunately, sometimes this happens with honesty.

Yes, it does appear as if this is what happened :-/

Anyway. I know that my level is good and original, and hopefully will be recognized as so by the community.

If the same person can play a level over and over again, and add to the play count.. That is an easy way to get a ton of fake plays also?

Christ, I'm getting less and less fond of MM's support to their content creators, since I have published my first level.

I've done some testing, and it appears that most level trashing is unsuccessful. Somebody can try to trash your level by playing it repeatedly and rating it poorly, however it appears that rating and possibly tagging a level only works/effects your level once.

So, somebody playing it 100 times and rating it 1-star is no different than them playing it once and rating it 1-star. The added bonus for their idiocity is that your playcount is raised, which is beneficial for your level's rating (in terms of it getting on the cool pages).

FYI watch the double posting... it's not allowed on these forums & don't want to see you get an infraction.

Thanks for the information, and sorry for the double post.

My rating has not changed, but my "tag page" almost contains every possible tag, hehe. So I do beleive that it is at least possible to trash someone's "tag page".

Eh, I wouldn't worry about having every possible tag. Your level only ever displays the 3 most common tags, and every level inevitably ends up with all of them given enough plays.

If you get off to a bad start when you publish, its often worth deleting and republishing. Don't forget to have a few friends play it to set the initial tags - other people are likely to follow and tag similarly.

I usually rate/tag my own levels while they are still locked, using my alt accounts. I find this prevents griefers from being able to destroy my level rating when I first publish and there aren't many plays. So, even if some idiot makes his way into my level in the first 10 plays, the damage is minimal.

JollyRajah: No, i don't think so.. It is propably only a single person, I have no idea who. But it is a rather interesting problem, and something MM should address (a single person owns a single tag, etc)

Anyways, my level so doing great, getting reeeeally positive comments here, and on the littlebigworkshop boards.
