Coping With the Region-Specific Possibility (not needed for now)

Archive: 35 posts

(Edit) Well, guys, this rumor luckily has been debunked by our own Sam on the boards here as well as on the Euopean PS boards as well. As of now, it looks as though there will be no need to create extra accounts or split up into region specific groups. Refer to this thread for more information and to discuss:

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=994

It's not 100% sure, but most of you have heard that LittleBigPlanet will be region locked (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=195937). I really hope that is not the case, but if it is, I think I have a solution. It's fairly drastic, but I'd be willing to go through with it so I can share my levels with all of you here.

My solution is simple: We all make a new PSN account based in a pre-determined region, so we all(technically) reside in the same area. To overcome irritating name differences, we could simply put the region in the name. For example, if we decide on Europe, I would make a new account named "ConfusedCartman(EU)". That way it would be very easy to change our friend's lists, and we can still share levels together.

To decide on the region, I say we have a vote. We'll figure out what this site has the most, Americans or Europeans, and then make that our "site-specific region". That way the majority doesn't have to do anything in terms of switching.

Now, I'm not saying I want you guys to go ahead and do it now, as it's possible this information is incorrect. Once we hear from a solid source whether or not it's region locked, then we'll proceed. I just wanted to know what you guys thought of my plan to deal with this. If you disagree and have another option in mind, let me know!

Best idea, in all fairness. No reason to make a bunch of different accounts and be forced to add a bunch of new names to your friends list.2008-08-23 00:59:00

Well, we might(actually, we probably do) have more Euros than North Americans on this board, so we're gonna do this democratically to make sure.

On a side note, I've already made a EU account just incase. That way I'm prepared.

ok I will vote America, and I also think it is a good idea also but can you explain how to create a EU account. I didn't want to sound dumb but how does it work? Can I still keep both accounts and does this solve the problem? Because I thought that EU PS3's were just different, because I know this would not work for MGO, so please explain to me how it works, thanks.2008-08-23 02:27:00

Create a new user, and when you create an account for it, put an address in Europe. Just say you live in Italy, or something.2008-08-23 02:29:00

Cartman, shouldn't we make a vote on what region everybody lives? Or do we already have that data?

I wouldn't mind making an European account, so Europe FTW!

Brazil =/= Europe. Brazil's in S. America. We in N. America are like your cousins. Sure, sometimes we antagonize you, sometimes you antagonize us, and you have a few socialist outliers that we don't talk about around the rest of the family, but we still love you. And you leave us. Don't expect a warm reception at the next family reunion. Especially from Uncle Canada.

Uh Cartman, this most likely won't work. If Sony is serious about this, it'll be locked based on IP address of where you're located, not what region PSN account you have.

Maybe, but that's not how it's been in the past. I've made accounts based in different countries and played with people I never would have on my regular account. If it doesn't work, we'll think of something else. I'll keep your concerns in mind, though.

No, I understand. I've got other ideas in the back of my mind in case this doesn't work. I really, really don't want to have to separate the forums because of something like region-locking. That wouldn't be great for the community at all.

I don't mean for the fora (plural for forum lol) to be separated, rather to offer a place where people of a specific region can post ideas, on top of the existing forum.

I'll be keeping my US account, and making no others. Too much hassle for the benefit in my opinion. Split the forum into US/Euro if this information is true (which I seriously doubt it is)2008-08-23 08:17:00

But if you live in the regio where everyone will make an account there, do you have to make another account or just keep your normal account?
So if it will be Europe, can I stay 'schwirtz' or do I have to change it, so it will be 'schwirtz[EU]'?

PS: I live in Europe

I'm from Texas and ever since we signed on to the good ol' U.S. of A theres been nothing but problems. If it works, I'll make a second account for our EU friends... as long as I can share my levels made on my main account.2008-08-23 12:34:00

Uh Cartman, this most likely won't work. If Sony is serious about this, it'll be locked based on IP address of where you're located, not what region PSN account you have.

This is probably the closest thing to the possible truth of regoin-locking out there.

Who remembers the Uncharted demo?
When it was first released?

It didn't make a difference if you had an American account or not, if you were outside America, it didn't work.

I have a feeling Sony isn't going to keep this region-locking thing up, the outburst would be equivalent to that of, if not way worse, the Uncharted demo outbreak.
Guess we'll have to wait and see, although there's no harm in planning ahead.

I say we keep the forums as one, no splitting, nothing of the sort.
This way, when someone from Region 1 posts an awesome idea, he can easily give permission to someone in Region 2, or 3, to remake the idea, with all credit going to him, of course.

But that'll take a lot of trust between community members, but that really isn't a huge issue in these forums.

I really hope I won't have to but for those of you in Europe you can add me onto another account the PSN name: ProfCalamityEU though I hope I can stay in a american server and play with friends from everywhere.2008-08-23 14:16:00

I'm gonna vote Europe as I'm from Ireland (and I voted Yes on Nice treaty, it's the rest of the idiots in the country who voted no).

It might not work but we may as well be prepared.

Anyway is someone keeping count? I already have a US account so whatever account region everyone ends up using, I'll use that account exclusively for LBP. It will be a little annoying though... I like my account .

And Harrisment, quit being lazy it takes 5 mins to set up a new account!
