Well, let's say that my level calls for a stone border. There is no background you can choose from that has a stone border, and even if there was, what if the player doesn't want all of the stuff in the background? I was thinking that the border material should be changeable.

Good idea. The border can be very annoying. I think that you should be able to pick from everything basic except grabbable materials and glass. Edit: But since the border is so large, wouldn't changing the material eat up your thermometer?

Why not make your level far enough from the borders to you can't seem them? You could also hide the background or use the plain background.
