Here to stay ... and write long posts.

Archive: 19 posts

I started out in LBWorkshop and ... well ... there seem to be a lot of folks just wanting to present themself and no one is really paying attention to the works of other except for some, but all of those seem to be here so ... here I am.

I worked in the gaming industry for a few years and it somehow went from there to webdesign and now a crazy mix of marketing, project management and web design.

I am still into games .... a lot. I have a ton of projects and I bought a PS3 soley for LBP, I love it. I loved it the first second I saw a presentation of it and I am not disappointed for one bit. I wish I could spend much more time with it but hell I compensate for this by posting on the forums and coming up with ideas and solutions for other creators. I am happy to be here and hope to work together with some great minds here.

I warn you though, in a forum I can be quite talkative and you should prepare for some long posts.

Hi there =)

Thanks for the interesting read. I too bought a PS3 soley for LBP and absolutely love it! I'd love to have a little gaming programming knowledge, but unfortunately do not. So creating levels on LBP is probably as close as I'll get to creating my own games!

Webdesign fascinates me too. Looks like we have some common interests!

Anyway, it's nice to meet you. Hope you enjoy the forums =)

Yay, another long poster! Long posts are great, more informative than short posts, and more interesting to read.

Anyway, welcome to LBPC, I hope you enjoy it here. When you say you worked in the gaming industry, do you mean designing, programming, editing, publishing, or something else?

Oh, and I 100% agree with the LBWorkshop comment. It's crammed full of H4Hers that just destroy the whole idea, and negative comments flood the topics. Oh, well.

That's not strictly true. I've read many posts that are long but are a heck of a lot more boring then some short at snappy ones. It's easy to make a short post that has a very positive impact.

Anyway, I'm distancing ever further from the subject...

Hey there, welcome to the forums.

Ghost, not unless the person who is writing is excessively boring. Myself, I enjoy writing long posts, but I try to make them as succinct and concise as possible. If I were to go on rambling for exceedingly long posts, the person reading them would soon become bored and move on. For this reason, and this reason only, I try to make them interesting to read and thought-provoking. I agree, some people do post intentionally long posts that just go on for what seems like forever, never ending, and this problem is accentuated when people do not use correct grammar. I detest it when an english speaking person (I don't mind at all when it is a foreigner) does not bother with simple punctuation such as commas, capital letters, and full stops. They are perfectly capable of writing fluently and coherently, yet the absence of the aforementioned punctuation makes them appear immature and ignorant. Although, I must say, there are times when it is acceptable for comic effect, most significantly in the so-called "Spam Can." To circumnavigate my way back to my original point, long posts can be interesting and invigorating, so long as they do not waffle, and neither do they present the reader with nothing but uselessness.2009-03-19 21:27:00

*Is bored*

xD. Nah, I know what you mean. To be honest, the amount of useful posts that are long appear to exceed the help given by quite a lot to be perfectly honest. I enjoy writing long posts, although I haven't had an opportunity lately.

I think we're wandering off-topic a little, so I guess I'll just stop posting here now.

Haha, nah it takes pure boringness to scare me away.

Yeah, well I maybe write more then was asked but I always think "hey if I give more info than wanted, maybe another solution presents itself"

Commas and punctuation ... well I make them as I feel is right but this might just be the German grammar and I do not really understand that well, either

I was a level and graphics designer at a small company. I also worked as lead quality assurance (coordinating testers, testing a lot myself, communicating between testers and developers etc.). I was a really good experience in sense of learning-for-life but it was also the worst time of my young life because the working conditions could only be compared to slavery starting with salary and working hours. I will never work at such a small company again, they just use young persons that think they have their dream jobs and throw them away when they can't work anymore of exhaustion.

The games I worked on can be seen on my website (http://fjonan.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=4&id=36&Itemid=33&lang=en). The commercial games are The Show, Emergency 3 and 4, Gotcha! and Ingenious. The rest is private non-commercial stuff I did or do.

I am proud of that games, which is the reason I like to mention I did this, I hope nobody blames me for that. But I try not just to brag with it but to give honest opinions on how to make games and levels, what to do and what not etc. so I will be glad to help those who need ideas or want to make things work.

Hey, that's cool, some of them look cool! I always suck when it comes to designing graphics for games, especially 2D. I'd love to work in the games industry too, I hope my morale/dreams aren't crushed. 2009-03-19 22:15:00

Welcome!

I tend to get long winded in my posting too. I try to keep the grammar correct but while I can talk a good game, grammar isn't my specialty.

Hope you have a much fun here as I have - it beats the pants off the regular LBP forum. I think I've only posted there twice. I do have videos posted there but you're right about it being too H4H over there and there's not a ton of helpful people. Here, we have helpful people coming out of the woodwork.

Thanks for all the warm welcome.

Well, to get into graphics design isn't that hard. If you can get a hand on some Photoshop you can start right at home. There are tons of infos out there on what you can do with it. If you want to know PS for example I can reccomend http://revision3.com/pixelperfect/ with Bert Monroy. But you better know the basics of PS before looking at those videos.
