(Debunked!) User Generated Content will be Region Specific

Archive: 76 posts

Edit) hey guys. Looks like Sam from our boards was right about this game not being region specific for content. Thread locked. Discussion about this can now be directed to:

LBP

Well after the 'no images from HDD' bad news, read this:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=195937

User generated content will be region specific! This means we won't get to share the levels between europeans and americans or Japs..

I know Mediamolecule is reading this: Please fix this! you still have time to fix that issue ! The game is called littleBigPLANET , not LittleBigContinent!

EDIT:

Ok, i've send the news to PSFanboy as suggestion and they answered me this:

"Thank you,
We actually heard slightly differently at Leipzig, so we're waiting for a clarification from Sony. Hopefully, LBP won't be region-locked."

OMG i hope CVG was wrong!

Does this mean that we won't be able to play together, and that some ideas such as LittleBigCavern will have to be based in one area. 2008-08-22 21:09:00

Wait a second, didn't the guy say that only the downloads were region based? or did I read that wrong?

If I read it correctly, then we would still be able to play with people from other regions.

But what about creating a level with them ...

I hope MM will answer soon and clarify this..

I edited the title so people would know what's up.

While this might slow the progress down a bit with our content, we'll figure it out guys. We might have to split into groups of say 2-3, but that won't stop us. :kz::kz::kz::kz::kz:

PSN itself is region free, I really think that we will be able to play with other people, just not download content from other regions. (I mean, Americans aren't going to want Japanese levels, they speak an entirely different language!)

LOL! Sorry that happened but us Yanks aren't all like that - just most of us. Still is a total shame that we must be divided on a title we all love equally. When will mankind do away with borders!! Oh well, we can still show off our work here right?

How would that work??????
If say you can play cross countries and (for example) an American had a 'American' downloaded level that he was playing and an English mate wanted to join into his session, would he not get in as he can't download the American level. Does this mean we would only be able to play cross countries on the developer levels. If this is true this has seriously degraded the game for me. If this is true then i'll be unleashing a hole load of hurt on MM. COMMUNITY MY ****

America & Japan = Same region
Europe = Other region..

I for example will never be able to see your levels.. And i'm not the only European here

America & Japan = Same region
Europe = Other region..

I for example will never be able to see your levels.. And i'm not the only European hereBut I think there's a way around that, you'd just have to join my game with an American made level, and then you could save it to your hard drive, put it in my name, and then add it to the Euro server.

The new motto should be:

"Play, Create, Share.. with your own region only that is!"

This is ridiculous!!! I can't believe I won't be able to play with people in the US and more importantly download their levels.

Why don't they have a universal server? Or multiple universal servers? If there's text in the level they could just organise it by language. I mean seriously I was really looking forward to playing levels by both Japanese and US gamers.

I'm feeling pretty crestfallen right now...

Think what you will, but MM and Sony aren't stupid, one server couldn't handle all the user generated content very well. Thus, the download servers are regional...

Code: Is there any reason why there couldn't be a Japanese server, a European server and a US server with each accessible by all 3 regions? There are probably more regions than that but they're the main 3.

So if you lived in the US you only uploaded to the US, but when you went to the downloads it would include all 3 regions, ordered by region and language.

I guess we'll have to go with trying the copy US levels to the EU servers and vice versa... not sure if it'll work though. I have a US account and a Japanese account, first thing I'm going to check when I get the game is if it'll allow you to access those servers... I doubt it though... it's far too obvious.

Also some Sony games (such as Resistance as far as I know) already have worldwide servers. They seem to be backing LBP a lot, why not a worldwide server for it... maybe one that would host only the best content from the other servers. Would be better than nothing.

I think when it comes down to it, having global servers is more challenging that we might think. What I would be interested in seeing though is mirroring of content on all servers.

Also, I wonder what the effect of say a North American user logging into a European account has. I mean I have a Japanese account, a European and a North American one. I can access the PSN stores of each region and download the content say from Japan and have it on my US account.

It could just be a matter of us doing this, but Sony not officially promoting it. I mean I suppose they could have blocked my other accounts because my IP is obviously North American, but they keep a blind eye to it. Could be the same here.

Well TBH they could mean that playing together is region specific as well. I mean you can't say that it isn't just because they haven't said that it isn't. I guess we'll have to wait for confirmation from someone and what exactly it means.

And TBH while we may be making it into something it's not, I was looking forward to playing the US and Japanese levels far more than I was looking forward to making levels with people from those regions. I mean each region will be missing out on 100,000s of levels.

I think that the best levels will be mirrored across the servers, so it's really not that big of a deal...

Yeah, this is a crap decision. Come on, Mm, this is terrible. Sony has wads of money, and LBP will make them an incredible amount - there's got to be a way around it.

And Code: sorry, you're wrong. The only levels you'll be able to play with others online from a different regions would be the 50 included with the game. You won't be able to play (or collab, I suppose) with anyone from a different region online. Any level you play has to be downloaded to your HDD, so if you can't download a level, you can't play it.

Look at the actual quote from Pete Smith:
We?ve got regional servers. ?But we can move levels around on servers whenever we want. But you won?t have access to the Japanese servers.

Does this mean that perhaps the only limitation is for Japan? Maybe EU and US can still share? I don't think so, but it was worth mentioning.

I have a question our PSN names they are not region locked right? i have added many names of people in england to my U.S. account. so why do we need to make other accounts in different regions?
also I really hope this isn't true or gonna be fixed I wouldn't mind paying a small fee to be able to play all the levels of the world and play with all the possible friends in the world. I live in the U.S. and i hate those immature gamers too.

It would really suck that i would have to choose between European players or America. I know a little Nihongo (japanese) and would love to play with them and their levels as well though I could handle it if they were separate but not EU and US.

Even if the PSN isn't region-locked, they're making the content itself region locked. You can't download it unless your PSN is associated with the region it was created in.2008-08-23 02:35:00

Why not have a master server which gathers the levels from the regional servers on a daily basis and then the regional servers are sent to levels they don't have yet.

Personally I'm not that fussed about not being able to play with people from other countries considering the lag we'd get. But I AM interested in playing the quirky levels I'm sure the Japanese players will be creating.

As an Aussie, I'll probably be grouped with EU and the other PAL territories, that'll still mean plenty of quality levels though, that's only suck if it were Australian only. MAYBE, and this is a a big MAYBE, you can still access your PSN account's 'friends' levels by downloading them to your myMoon, leaving the rest of the foreign server's levels untouchable, putting minimal stress on them ... MAYBE?2008-08-23 03:34:00

Even so, we won't be able to play with other people from different regions online. That does bother me; playing with Malt and Ryan would've been really fun. Considering just how worldly this game is, I think this is a big mistake.

This could of been the Big news as we have all been thinking it was gonna be good news. we were thinking it was a world wide connection but it is actually region separate. Surprise!!!

This would be horrible news because I wanted to play with the many people on this forum that are in Europe and the few in Australia. Plus, I find American players in ratio have more ******* players like 3 out of 5 people. If there isn't a region lock there is a better ratio to play with nice fun creative people.

EDIT: also a lot of sites that are doing online pre-orders like gamestop.com is still saying in the details it says "LittleBigPlanet Global community for players to get involved with: includes player comments, rankings and easy communication with new and existing friends"

Good observation on GameStop. Now that I think about it, this was how the game's been marketed so far - as a global game. I have trouble believing they switched it, and I hope they didn't.

Hi all, as many of you may have heard already in an interview at Leipzig the senior producer for LittleBigPlanet announced that the game is region locked. This is in fact not the case, and all shared levels in the game will be available worldwide. The confusion arose out of regional differences in how moderation will work as there are different legal rules each region have to play by, and at one point this looked like it may require the game to be independent in each region - however this has been worked around and there will only be one region for the game.... a LittleBigRegion.

Apologies for any confusion over this issue, however I'm pretty sure you're happy with the result.

(Sorry about the copy/paste response but I've a few threads to cover on this topic)

If you can have global video sites like Vimeo and youtube and flickr and all the other online content sites allowing global uploads and downloads and all that and LBP levels are meant to be capped at about 300KB, they don't really have an excuse.2008-08-23 14:23:00
