Starry Night : Level Coming Soon

Archive: 4 posts

Hey there, fellow LittleBigPlanet fans. It's Ray here and he needs help on suggestions and ideas.

So, i'm going to be creating a level called "Starry Night". And well, I'm kind of clueless as to what I could go from there. So far, this is what I have so far.

Level Plot:
It's a starry night and you start to roam around.

That's all I've got. I don't know what to add, i'm so clueless. Another thing, I wanted to add a shooting star in the level, how would I do that? Like I want it to to come as you walk near it and then disappear into dust.

Please help, thanks! Add me on PSN if you would like to help me further this level project. PSN ID: Jassi_123

If you add me, let me know.

Well, use fairy lights on a dark-blue background as stars, maybe you can make them glow a little by attaching them to a magnetic switch set to speed (that should work i guess) and move the trigger for the switch back n forth so the stars glow.

The shooting star ... well you could build on very iconic one yourself

Or shoot another, slightly bigger fairy light with an emitter and set the life time short so the player can see how it dissapears into thin air.

Visible emitters that actually emit nothing can make cool stars if you're sending the player past them fast. They have a tiny glowy white center. There's also a sticker called "flare" that's sort of star like - if you don't want the cookie cutter version of stars.

For the shooting star probably an emitter will do the trick. How that gets set up depends on how you want it to interact with the player, the distance from the player and a whole bunch of other variables. Play around with it - best way to learn.

I don't know how science versus quirky you are thinking for your level but I hear "Starry Night" and I've got Van Gogh in my head. Check out the painting if you're not familiar with it. It's got a very recognizable style - if you're artsy you might have a go at either a section in that style (the trees from the MM items painted black would look just about perfect in that painting.) or just have a reference somehow.

Sounds like a level I'd like to play though - I'll keep an eye out for it. Good Luck

Morgana: Funny, now that I read the title of the thread I thought of "hey wait a second, doesn't Van Gogh have to to something with it?

What comes to MY mind (now on second thought) is "Vincent" from Don McLean, here are the lyrics, would make the Van Gogh topic complete:

Starry
starry night
paint your palette blue and grey

look out on a summer's day
with eyes that know the
darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils

catch the breeze and the winter chills

in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they did not know how

perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry
starry night
flaming flo'rs that brightly blaze

swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in
Vincent's eyes of China blue.
Colors changing hue
morning fields of amber grain

weathered faces lined in pain
are soothed beneath the artist's
loving hand.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you
but still your love was true

and when no hope was left in sight on that starry
starry night.
You took your life
as lovers often do;
But I could have told you
Vincent
this world was never
meant for one
as beautiful as you.

Starry
starry night
portraits hung in empty halls

frameless heads on nameless walls
with eyes
that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met

the ragged men in ragged clothes

the silver thorn of bloddy rose
lie crushed and broken
on the virgin snow.
And now I think I know what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity

how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they're not
list'ning still
perhaps they never will.
