| It's not too bad. I had them when I was younger. It's not severely painful but it feels exactly as it should, as if your teeth are being pushed posteriorly. Your teeth are very sensitive when you get them on first and then each time you get them tightened that sensitivity returns. It goes away for the most part after a few days. One tip, make sure you brush your teeth extremely well, brushing around and under each wire. I have permanent stains on my teeth because I didn't brush them well enough when I had braces. Even the day you get them tightened it may be sore, but force yourself to brush them anyway. Unless it's unbearable that is. My cheeks also got a little sore because of the sharpish metal bits on the sides of my molars but you can get this wax which you press on to the sharp bits and that helps loads. | 2009-03-18 06:08:00 Author: Burrich  Posts: 1018 |
| I second what Pillaysteven said. I had them for nearly 3 years in High School (got them off right before college) and it's pretty much what he said. When you first get them your teeth will ache for a few days (this will also happen as they get tightened periodically) and the soft parts of the inside of your mouth will need to toughen up a bit - the wax helps until that happens. Don't fret too much - you get used to them after awhile. He's also absolutely right about keeping them clean. There are a lot more places for stuff to get stuck and cause dental problems, stains or bad breath. The weird thing for me is even after not having them for 16 years now - I still can't eat an apple without cutting it up and I never chew gum. Used to do both before the braces. | I had braces when I was younger. Not really that bad at all. Worst part was getting them tightened, and cleaning them.. makes brushing your teeth a pain. when you get them off your teeth will feel slimy for a while. make sure you wear your retainer if you need one. I didnt wear mine and now I need braces again. Wont get them, my teeth aren't as bad as they were but still a few have gotten crooked. oh yea and dont smoke, and brush 3 times a day or you will end up with like white spots on your teeth where the brackets were. | 2009-03-19 00:27:00 Author: Madafaku  Posts: 738 |
| I have bracers. Everyone says the spacers really hurt but they're just real big crybabies. It will feel really weird at first but you'll get used to it eventually. | I have braces. Its not bad. The only annoying thing is the amount of food that gets stuck in them. that is a problem, but it's become quite a habit for me to try and get as much junk out of there with my tounge that I can't imagine life without it :/. | Had them for 3 years, got them off 6 months ago. Hated hated hated hated them. I only have to wear a retainer 12 hours a day now (which is a clear, invisible braces thing so it ain't bad).
