F4F: Little LOST (now with photos!)

Archive: 36 posts

It's Little LOST again, this time with photos and a F4F tag! Obviously, it a tribute/parody of the show, and I think fans will really enjoy it (assuming they can take a joke).

I got some terrific suggestions from the members here (THANK YOU!), and I've made a few major changes and a ton of tweaks over the past month or so. I think it's changed sufficiently that it merits a repost. Please give it a runthrough if you haven't played it recently, and let me know what you think!

I left a little comment in your level when I played it a few days ago. Personally, I loved the faces. I've watched the show several times, but am not a "hard core" watcher of the show, so having the faces really helped me associate with the characters.

Great level! And for any of you who haven't played it - this level is really unique in that it's not just a walkthrough - there is ACTUAL gameplay here and it's a great layout.

Wow frizby, looks like you've made some pretty significant changes from the screenshots alone. I'm away from my PS3 until the weekend, but I'll give it another shot.2009-03-17 18:27:00

Polar bears on wheels made me laugh.
Nice water fall
Moving tree section is cool also being chased by the black mist was cool. That could have been a bit longer maybe.
Nice level with good bits from show. Just about to watch S5E8.
4*

As a big Lost fan, I found this level to be pretty hilarious! The gameplay was great as well! I loved that you used actual pictures of the cast and thought you did a wonderful job recreating many of the set pieces in the show. I loved running from the smoke monster!

A definite play for all Lost fans!

It doesn't follow the narrative of the show, but it does have little elements from the whole run...mostly from seasons 1-3.

If you're concerned about spoilers, I'd skip it.

Thank you! CCubbage and others suggested the photos a while back, and I should have done it sooner.

Will play your levels and give feedback soonest!

I've actually thought about extending the smoke monster chase. I'd just have to lose a bit of beach.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'll play at least one of your levels soonest. BTW, the link in your sig to Aliens is broken.

Ok - I'll be honest - with the exception of the pilot episode I've never actually watched Lost. That said - even for a non fan of the show this is a really fun level to play. The quirky sense of humor about the characters and some of the rules of the show come through loud and clear - even to a non fan - fans should find this level even more enjoyable I'd wager. There is tons of custom content in this level and I always note that when i'm playing. I really liked your use of the actors faces as stickers - very creative and an interesting choice in design for them. Reminds me of those silly cartoons they have on the net - jib jab I think?

The set pieces are really well done too. I love the design of the plane, the ship, the bus and even the palm trees (nice texture there.)

Besides all these positives the level has going for it - it's fun to play to boot! Nice work!

Thanks, but I doubt it will be spotlighted. I haven't been around all that long, and usually spotlighted levels are more original. This is just a tribute to something I like. I knew the millisecond that I made my first black smoke that I had to do it.

I played and left feedback for Save the Orphans...need to play New York City.

It was spotlighted in the Spotlight 9. That's what he's referring to. It was in the section at the bottom for members under 15% activity.2009-03-19 18:59:00

LOL Maybe you didn't catch this:Surprise! (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=162170#post162170)

At the bottom of the post it says you would have been spotlighted if you had 15% activity.

Oh and whatever you want. Don't feel forced to play my levels if you don't want.

edit: looks like Ccubbage beat me to it.

Wow! That's really funny...even funnier since I actually read the list and comments and even played some of the levels. I just didn't notice I was in the footnotes!

Cool stuff. I'll have to edit the first post in the old thread to link to this one since it has pics.

Thanks for leaving feedback on Siberia 4 frizby. Sorry its taken a little time to get back to you. I just played Little Lost.

+ I've only ever seen the first two series of Lost, but it was a nice recap and I learned a little from it.
+ You followed the series I had seen well, finding the explosives, opening the hatch etc.
+ Loved the characters with the stickers for faces, you knew who you were talking to you and it was a nice touch.
+ Nice designs on the polar bear, camper van, plane and ship. They look great.
+ Not just a story walkthrough, you actually had gameplay in there
+ Excellent chase sequence

- MM content
- The jungle looked great, the hatch looked a little bare and undetailed, you could maybe spruce this up a bit.

All in all it was a good level, I enjoyed it. It looked good (mainly!) and followed the series well. And the chase sequence was fantastic

Good job, I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Thank you for following through on the F4F GrantosUK. It's a shame how few folks do that.

I'll consider both of your suggestions for my next edit. The trend seems to be that I replace MM content as I have ideas and need space to put them, and I agree that the hatch looks a bit rough compared to the rest of the level. I think at a minimum, I might try to get the numbers back on it.

Well I played this over a week ago but I am finally getting around to leaving some feed back.

I love Lost so I was really looking forward to playing your level.

1st Impression: Very Cute!
I loved all the little touches that so brought memories of the show.

There was really only one negitive...if you can call it that

I was able to go around the fire pits at the beginning using the back layer but you may have meant for that option to be open.

No it isn't quite as polished as some levels but what it lacks there it makes up for in some of the platform elements!

I loved the VW-van nice touch.
I really liked your title and liked that you had to climb on it to move on.
I liked the stretchy drop points.
The fire log roll/jump segment was the hardest part for me and I died and had to restart the level. The logs were a bit big (but that wasn't really bad it added to the challenge)
I agree with some other posters that the run from the smoke monster was really cool but maybe too short.
Thought the hatch was cool (liked you use of the stickers. With the Dharma symbols and the actors too!)
The turning electric rods in the hatch was a nice platform element.
Like that it is multi-path

Over all I really enjoyed playing this level.

I gave it 4 stars.

Play either of my levels...but I think 2 is much better. I have made a few changes to Part 1 and plan later to redo it altogether as it was my 1st try at level making.

That actually should be the ONLY way to do it.

You're supposed to grab the ceiling and let them roll under you. My biggest fear was that folks wouldn't notice that the ceiling was grabable. You've confirmed that for me a bit.

Thank you for giving it a run, and I will absolutely get to your levels before the end of the weekend. I have a feeling Rock Band will be eating a bit of my gaming time the next couple of days. Pearl Jam!

Heh..... I periodically read this thread to see what the feedback was (I'm a big fan of this level) and saw the rolling log comment. The first time I went through this part I tried to jump a log, died, and thought "there is NO WAY he made it this hard. I wonder if the ceiling is grabbable...."

But don't worry, AJnKnox - play it again. It's worth it.

Well I did make it through on my second try but I didn't grasp the ceiling I managed to jump 2 logs getting singed in the process but I did make it past them

I actually did shrink those logs once just to make sure that was possible. My hope was that people would see the cloth ceiling with just a visual cue, but I might have to give them a hint or something.

I'm guessing it costs me a few stars/hearts here and there.

Just curious, do you think you would have rated it higher had you not struggled there?

I LOVED THIS LEVEL. So much humor and i love th smalll refrences to the show only big fans would know like the guy getting sucked into the engine (would of been better with a side view) Really loved the humor in it like how the characters notice its lbp by saying stuff like "polar ebears on wheels? Where are we?" and how they say funny thigns about their character. I really liked the guy saying "careful explosives are dangerous" then dieing THe vualt was cool too. You should make a beggining sequence where your in the plane and it breaks in half and then a guy falls out the back too then your part explodes then you spawn at the wreckage.

Also im fairly new so i dont knwo much abou tthe F4F system but i asume it works like the h4h thing so play my level: Luxury Spaceship (OR Luxury Space Ship) By... well who else but me. And feedback on it plz i have a thread with it already up.

THANK YOU!!!

Great idea! Unfortunately there's just too much going on in this level. The thermometer is practically shaking it's so close to overheating.

But I never was fully satisfied with the beginning, and you've inspired me to do something new with it. As a LOST fan, I think you'd approve.

As others suggested, I also tried to extend the smoke monster chase, but I realized the the mechanics I've put together for it are limited by the range of a single proximity switch. I have the real estate to make it a few seconds longer, but I'm just not sure how I'd do it without a complete re-engineering.

I also did something new at the ending, put rotating blades on the helicopter, and added Juliet and Sayid to the cast.

Will do this tomorrow.

Thanks again, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the feedback on my Duelling Desert Dragsters level frizby.I have altered a couple of the things you mentioned there and presently adding further races of different kinds to it and when I have filled the thermometer I will overwrite the original one.

I played your level although I cannot comment on the representation of the show itself because I have never watched it. That didn't stop me from enjoying your level though, I thought it was excellent. I loved the design and the gameplay. The only bit I found a problem was the first encounter with the black smoke where you have to jump under it and across the platforms. I lost a lot of lives there because when I jumped I was hitting my head in the smoke. I stood around for a while to see if it went up and down but it didn't appear to so I just took some more jumps and eventually made it across.

I also , like others , got killed a few times with the fire logs before I saw the grabbable roof.

I thought the faces on the characters was very good albeit they could do with shaping a little better , with the corner edit tool maybe. The pictures were very clear though. I have tried doing stuff like that by printing good quality pictures then capturing them with the eyecamera but they always turn out rubbish. Is that because I have a particularly bad eyecamera or do you use a different method ?

Anyway all in all I thought the level was very polished and enjoyed playing it so would recommend it to anyone regardless of whether they have seen the show or not.

Played this last night, and liked it.

I didn't understand any of the jokes near the end, as the series became a has-been aftter season 3.

I really liked the visual style, and some of the jokes were pretty funny. There was some decent platforming too.

Wasn't amazing or anything, but I hearted it and gave it 5 stars anyway!

PS. could you play my level? click my sig if you want to!

Thanks for the support as always.

Yesterday, it occurred to me that a score bubble or two glued to the ceiling there might draw the player's eye, and I think it worked out pretty well.

I also did some new aesthetic stuff in the Swan Station, and of course, the reworked opening.

Finally, I made the smoke monster start later but move faster. I think it makes the chase FEEL longer (more tension) despite the fact that I can't actually make it longer.

I need to leave this level alone and move on to something else!

Well no not really...I dont give many 5 start ratings. If things had been a bit more polished, the smoke monster chase a bit longer, then maybe I might have.

Dont get me wrong I really did like your level!

I'm not positive, but I think I gave the first 3* and the second 4*. I don't usually bring it up when I review unless I'm just blown away.

And I wasn't looking for a specific number on mine, as I don't find the star ratings all that interesting since I've played a ton of AMAZING 3* levels. What I wanted to know was whether that frustration colored your view of the level overall.

At any rate, I glued some score bubbles to the ceiling there, and hopefully they'll draw people's eyes to the ceiling. I REALLY don't want to put instructions in a speech bubble there.

I'll admit I've never even watched the show, but I really liked this level. It has some nice comedy, and the visuals were very nice. the thing I liked the most was the platforming elements. They weren't to hard, but have just enough challenge to make it fun. Another thing I like is you don't force people to get all the prize bubbles. the one thing I didn't like was that the sound effect for the van engine towards the beginning of the level was going well before the van was even in sight and well after it was off the screen. It's a very minor annoyance, but in the end it's up to you. If your interested in fixing just hook the grab switch that drives the wheels tho that speaker. overall though, I thought it was a great level.2009-04-02 00:18:00
