Northern Witchcraft

This is my new level. It's part one of two. It got so detailed that I'm making a second last part. In this first part you head into a little town called Detailia....because it's so detailed DOH. There's a story to it. The town is PLAGUED by a witch and you need to enter the haunted woods to find and stop her. I've not even begun on part to so I guess I better get to it. But the first level can't be worked on much more. Thermo is completely filled up. Please try to play the level with up to 4 players because that's how I designed it...to be easy to play through. And leave feedback on what you think...2009-03-17 14:30:00

Wow! I really dug the art direction of this level! From your characters and houses, to the trees in the woods, everything was top notch! You're character on the top of the roof, Crank I believe, was hilarious in both look and movements.

I did have to replay it once, because I accidently took the potion the other way, forgetting that I had to bring it to ****, and I dropped it off the edge. After that, I figured out what I needed to do and really liked the way you had the characters move to different positions around the level. The stone guy was very cool, but I did have some difficulty pulling the cannon into position. I was playing alone though and if you designed it for 4 players, then I doubt it would be an issue.

Other than that, my only criticism would be the length. It is very short, but I understand that you have a full themro. It's just a bummer because once you hit the forest it looks even more amazing, but then it ends. Oh well, I guess I can wait until Part 2!

Well done!

The stone golem is slooow I know. I don't know what I could do about it. The whole jak cannon is suspended on two beams which are the wheels. So the wheels themselves are not attached to the big jak. The golem is basically pulling the whole thing by himself. I've not tried it with 4 players. I don't know if pulling it would be faster. Fun to watch though?2009-03-17 18:43:00

Maybe you could add a motor bolt to the wheel so that it helps just a bit. And yeah, I found it very cool to watch. I loved the design of the golem and when he moves, with the smoke and all that, very nice!2009-03-17 18:53:00

OMG! I am in serious like with this level.
You really went all out on the custom designed buildings and characters. The "peek-a-boo" trees are so clever and all the stylized swirls are so well done! You even made gas lamps, stoves and the cutest little cooking pot fire I've yet seen. The lighting is stunning too. (I'm a sucker for pretty color lights that accentuate a level.) The style is so Tim Burton like but not mimicking him - that's really hard to pull off. I also like the subtle witch reference on the roof and the really subtle "Blair Witch" like symbols.

Here's the deal - I don't just want to be in serious like with this level - I REALLY WANT TO LOVE IT.

Couple of things could make that happen. Could you make is slightly easier to know to head up on top of the roofs (I found it but I don't know that other players could without wandering for awhile.) Also - I was really confused when the non Link guy (lol) shows up by the cannon. Neither he or the non pirate guy (lol) say to head up to the cannon. The player sensor switch is visible but it's really subtle - especially with the golem stomping around. (I really like the golem design but he isn't mentioned by any character and doesn't seem to interact with the player either - did I miss something?)

I'm guessing the shortness is "attack of the thermometer." If you're maxed it's a real shame because it is very short (I'm one to talk.) I'd like just a few more scenes to really make it feel satisfying.

Ok - that's my take on it. Of course this is your creation and you ultimately can decide what to use or not from my opinions. I really do like this level though - it's got great style and some real potential for a series.

Thanks for sharing it.

You pointed out exactly those spots I felt unsure about. That's cool. I guess I can make a signpost telling you how to get up on the roof. I was also going to have a character mention the golem. I guess I can add that. And the cannon too.2009-03-18 12:53:00
