The Dinosaur City - Dinosaurs Strike Back by Geppa

Archive: 20 posts

I know it's on the cool page and I know it really doesn't need the extra plays... BUT I had a ton of fun playing this level. The design is amazingly detailed, his dinosaurs are stunning and there's a helicopter..... what more does one need? j/k.

Seriously, this is a great level imo.

Aren't the cool pages SUPPOSED to have cool levels now? I know there are still some stinkers that get through but I find a lot of great stuff on the cool pages.2009-03-17 23:31:00

Cool pages should have cool levels... and this one is. I'm not saying it shouldn't be there - it absolutely should. I just believed there might be a backlash for recommending from "the cool page" so I mentioned it.2009-03-17 23:44:00

Ahh, I see. I guess I read it wrong. Anyway, good level to recommend. It's a top notch production and well deserving of it's success.2009-03-18 00:54:00

Yeah, certainly has the best dinosaurs on LBP and great artwork elsewhere too (lovely store fronts!). On the other hand, gameplay is nearly non-existent and where you find some it's a bit rough around the edges. And the scenery is a bit bland at times, with long stretches of flat, featureless road or green. These seem to be common traits of Geppa's style actually.

I wish he/she would give more thought to gameplay and supporting/background scenery. Still, I have yet to regret playing any of his levels, because the things he makes well he makes extremely well.

Played this the other day and I pretty much agree with tameturtle's analysis. The dinos and car wreckage are designed extremely well, but it's definitely lacking in the gameplay area. I still had a lot of fun with it though.2009-03-18 14:41:00

Yeah, this is definately the type of level that pushes to the top of cool pages - a beautiful level that my 7-year-old can waltz through without breaking a sweat. Not knocking it, it is pretty.2009-03-18 16:27:00

I played this level a little while back. I think it's very deserving of the success it's had, the design of the dinos are great, same as all the rest of the artwork in the level and the car wreckage part with the giant dinosaur is a fun challenge. Although I would agree with what others had said. I think the level is plain and generic at parts and it has little gameplay. I personnally preferred the first level, but I would still say this level's worth a try.2009-03-19 22:34:00

I played this level and loved the designs of the dinosaurs. Every single one was well done.2009-03-19 23:18:00

Even if the looks of the level are stunning and by GOD awesome!!! but you just don't do nothing in that level. It's like watching a show instead playing a level.
It's like the RE stage, Lonely Village. It was on cool pages.

In the end, whether it's great gameplay or just eye candy - it's all about the experience. If the author created a good experience, they've done their job. I prefer good gameplay, but my 7-year-old loves it.2009-03-20 12:12:00

Just played it. Agree with everyone in that it looks great but lacks interactivity. I prefer my levels to be a bit more fun. Still beautifully made.

I actually quite fancied making a dinosaur level as I`ve always been a bit of an enthusiast about the subject, but it`s been done so often that I think people are bored.

I know when I was trying out some other pirate levels that I was seeing a lot of comments mentioning how over done the theme was.

Yes, there are a quite a few pirate levels - and Dinosaur levels. HOWEVER there are practically no "pirate riding dinosaurs on mars" levels.2009-03-20 21:26:00

OMG - funny. Would those be martian dinosaurs on mars or earth dinosaurs smuggled to mars by the pirates? This is important. j/k

You're right - it does matter. I'm sure one of them has already been overdone as it is.2009-03-20 21:32:00
