So this is something I started a while ago, especially after I had finished a tic-tac-toe level. I've layed out the calculations system, and it should work fine for every combination, and will tell you the winner/loser, but I'm stuck on the inputs. I'm going for jetpacks and sponge counters, but the board you put them in would require: 84 magnetic switches (2 for each team) Some way of blocking off the section once an item is placed This alone requires only just enough to not overheat, but throw in the fact that you need a 1 second delay for ALL the inputs so a falling counter doesn't trigger all of them, it's going to overheat. Anyone have other ideas for the input? | 2009-03-15 09:16:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Okay, I didn't understand most of that, but this sounds really cool! So.... You were the one that made that awesome tic tac toe level? I loved that! | 2009-03-15 09:29:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
Hahaha no I wasn't. I made my tic-tac-toe, but discovered it had been made already. I just developed the system more. My system is quite mechanical. I have a fake board of dissolve, and when a sticker is placed, the corresponding section dissolves. This triggers a permanent switch, which in turn dissolves certain blocks. To keep track, I have loads of stacks. Each stack is 3 blocks of dissolve on top of each other, with a key on top of that, and each stack corresponds to a line of 3 (eg horizontal top, diagnol top-left to bottom-right). When the fake-board section dissolves, it dissolves one of the three if it is part of that line. When all three are gone, meaning a line has been made, it will trigger the win! If you understood that, well done. Anyway, the point is, I used the same method for Connect 4, but I think by reducing Number Of Materials and number of corners, I may be able to make it work. | 2009-03-15 10:41:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
this would suck, to re do all of your logic - BUT there is a way. Use piston based 4 way and gates. Block piston block piston block piston block piston block and a final block with the mag switch on it. Then have the piston speeds all set to 1 to 2 seconds. Copy and paste this 4 way and gate for every win scenario. The piston speed should be set slow enough that your inputs you have right now would work, even when falling past other slots, they won't be there long enough to fully extend a piston to trigger the mag switch at the end. That make sense? | 2009-03-15 23:47:00 Author: LuckyShot Posts: 713 |
Hehe yeah. I discovered 4-way X-NOR gates after making it my way, but oh well. | 2009-03-15 23:52:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
If didn't feel like releasing your Tic-Tac-Toe game because some other LBPs had done it, you will fall into depression with your Connect4. There's literally hundreds of them... . | 2009-03-16 06:20:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
i say if we stopped making levels, just becuase they had been done before, that would be a huge loss to the community. even if your level isnt better overall, you could still have done something in such a different way that people would be grateful of your level. I just made a mario level, and we all know there's a ton of them, but i think mine brings a lot of new ideas to the table. So basically what i'm saying is, even though Rangerzero says there is hundreds of them, don't stop now, finish it up, and show it off. maybe yours will be done better than any other! | 2009-03-16 13:59:00 Author: TJapan Posts: 225 |
Hehe yeah I had no intention to. I may suspend it to concentrate on other stuff, though | 2009-03-16 18:47:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

Well, I agree with you you know. I simply told him there's many Connect4 because HE seemed to care about not making a kind of level that is too common. . | 2009-03-16 18:55:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Don't get that impression because of the tic-tac-toe thing. It was just the evolution of said levels - hell, there were even AI levels that you couldn't beat etc.! | 2009-03-16 19:25:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
