When I saw this name come up in the Level Showcase, I thought to myself "There's no way that level could be good. The story is probably some tale about a melodramatic knight fighting for truth and justice and whatnot." But...um...I was wrong. It's a plus sign shaped level with a giant red light in the middle, presumably the heart, and it certainly exceeded expectations.

If you don't know anything about the level before you go in it like I did, you'll probably think it's some kind of survival challenge or gimmick level. Even though the flipping level is a bit gimmicky, it has still got some fantastic platforming in between...and a sweet custom background. It's a REAL level, and a long one. It also has you hunting for switches to get to some extras and to go behind the scenes.

The level is split between two different worlds I guess you could say, one is a perfect gardens-type level and the other is pretty much hell. This keeps things interesting throughout. It's certainly aesthetically pleasing, but the garden areas are the ones that feel a bit more polished. HOTFS is very surreal. Feels like a dream, and I had no clue what was going on, which is probably because I didn't play the original. Feeling the whole world flip is also very cool .

One thing that keeps appearing throughout the level is the heart, which "beats" as you get closer and also gets brighter, and it's sort of like your buddy throughout the level. And each time you see it you're reminded that you are a quarter of the way closer to reaching the end. I love teh heart ^v^

Some of the things Trindall put in here are pretty awesome and original. There's a section where you get to hold on to this little swingy thing as you go down this trail of glass, and then it falls into this little groove and that groove lifts you up so you can fall again. It's awesomely awesome. There's also a part where the level tells you you're gonna die but instead you get points. And it has a part which is moving platform equivalent of the wheel in the Bunker.

The work went into this level is easy to under appreciate unless you get to the dev center thing and see all sweet logic and sequence switches...which is weird because I don't recall any sequences.....>.< What is this form of trickery?!

SO! IN CONCLUSIONNNNNN! Heart of the Flip-side is a good level. Something refreshing and cool with obvious effort put into it. Not quite as good as LBP legends like Azure Palace, but better than a lot of other stuff out there. It's not even close to Tree Fortress 2 but no level is ever gonna be better than Tree Fortress 2 unless Splappy makes Tree Fortress 3.

This is the first comment I've gotten on the heart part of the level. The name of the level was supposed to be more of a metaphorical heart as this is the second level of three but it gave me the idea for the beating heart. There was nothing else going on at the middle of the rotating plus so it worked out well. I put a lot of work into making the heart beat and only make heart-beating sound when players approached from four different sides so it is good to hear that I wasn?t the only one who liked it.

A lot of the logic in that level are AND and OR switches. I tried hard to make the level work properly when played by multiple players and so I can?t have a section move when it would strand another behind.

An example of things I did in the level is a piece where there is a grab ball that doesn?t start moving until both it is grabbed and all the players in the level are grabbing it.
--The ball moves to the left, then it upwards once it reaches the left wall, then back to the right once it reaches the top.
--The players let go and the grab ball lowers back to the starting position so that it is available should any player die and need to do that section again.

It's not even close to Tree Fortress 2 but no level is ever gonna be better than Tree Fortress 2 unless Splappy makes Tree Fortress 3.
I need to try this Tree Fortress 2 level you talk about, it sounds like quite a good level.

Thank you for the review you?ve written up, it shows a lot of work put in on your side.

Cheers
