Right analog stick too sensitive in LBP

Archive: 3 posts

I'm having serious trouble with two of my controllers (both Sixaxis / non-DS3). My 3rd controller is a DS3 and doesn't show these symptoms...

Whenever I'm playing around in the editor, shapes tend to rotate around all the time when moving them and "radius" options will automatically start to get bigger really really slowly even though I'm not touching anything and just passing over the option.

Judging from the way the little "+" next to the radius option is repeatedly acting up, I'm guessing LBP is picking up some kind of really minor "vibration" movement coming from the right analog stick of both controllers. I haven't noticed any such behavior when playing other games, but I don't know whether it's just LBP being too sensitive or the controllers that are somehow broken.

Has anyone had this happen also? Is there any way to fix this aside from going out and buying DS3s to replace my otherwise perfectly working controllers?

I haven't seen this in LBP, since I have my own PS3 now... but a year or so ago when I was living with a friend, I was using his controllers to play numerous games. I did see this happen on occasion to his non-ds3 controllers. So, it doesn't surprise me that it effects shapes in LBP. The only thing I'd recommend aside from "buy new ones" which is clearly a lame answer, would be to turn the controller off and turn it back on. Remember with the N64 how the stick had to be straight up when you turned on the system/plugged in the controller because that's when it calibrated it? I would assume that the PS3 does something similar and maybe turning it off, trying your hardest to center it (or leave it bum to one direction to counter act the movement) and turning it back on. It might work.
That's about all I've got... but yeah, I've seen that with the non-ds3's, too.

This happens with any controller after some wear. This is because your joystick lost some accuracy and tightness. You don't really see it with your eyes but the joystick simply binds a bit (because of wear) and it's then poiting into some direction.
