Relive the Extinction (Working Title)

Archive: 19 posts

Hello boys and girls. I am currently working on a big project... A really big project.. And it will take a loooong time before it will be complete.

The main thing this level is about, is a temple/cave.

Some of you might know my other levels, and think: "oh, mr keep all your shapes simple, and make really weird levels is making a realistic looking level? This will be fun". Well.. i will put so much time into this project that it WILL look realistic/great.

You are unaware of what has happened.. and you've lost a great part of your memory. You are held captive, and it seems you're about to take place in a gruesome sacrificing ritual. (This is the intro.)

The level will have secrets, since i LOVE secrets. I've told Yarbone about my concept, and he was gobsmacked, and loved the concept So.. it's probably good.

I will tell you though that the secrets won't just be a bunch of score bubbles.. No, if you find them all you will have an alternative ending! That's right.. i'm making an alternative ending. It will be the "good" ending, seen in many, many great games. (Mostly freeware games.. freeware games rule).

Right now though, i need your help (The reader.. if anyone is reading this) I want you to create an insect that has extinct. Not an existing insect, a custom one.. you know? I want to do something with bugs, and you will help me make em

I would like you to make an insect, and show it to me.. Probably by sending the item to me. Make 2 versions, a normal one, and a cardboard one.. like a sticker switch thing in story mode.

That is all for now.. i hope i will be able to make some progress (Warning, it will be sloooow progress) and tell you more about the project later on.

I have made a weta in my level. I believe you have played it (The Legend of Maui). It is the insect in the cave. If you want it, play my level quick, and do the diamond sticker switch to get it. I've deleted the cave section (more thermo room, section was boring) on my PS3, but haven't uploaded it yet. Thus, limited edtion weta in my level. Do you already have it?2009-03-14 07:01:00

Yes i have it dkjestrup But i thought it looked a little too much like the original spider that MM made. But the shape isn't really what i'm looking for.. I'm looking for a big fat bug Not a tiny body with loads of tiny legs (Your spiders in your level are huge, but i want mine to be quite small.. about your mushroom in the beginning.)2009-03-14 13:17:00

Ohh, right. You see, it is a Giant Weta, but oh well. Doesn't worry me. I would suggest that you wobble bolt them in though, and use thin layers for 'em. Good Luck.2009-03-14 21:53:00

Well... be a bit more specific. Are you looking for a bug as an enemy? Or as a recurring character? Or as a decoration? What size? Sackboy size? Is the bug shown Profile or Straight on? Does it need to walk??

I'm since you're looking for a big fat bug, I'm thinkin a big glow worm with a lightbulb as its body.

Sounds kinda cool the way you have to uncover all the secrets to see the alternative ending. Speaking of freeware games with alternate endings... have you played Cave Story?

Yep, loved Cave Story! One of my favourites! But it's a tad short (Yes even though i've been to Hell, and beat Ballos ) Iji is another freeware game with loooads of secrets.

About the bug:

It has to be a decoration. I will indeed use thin layers, like dkjestrub said, and it will just be a sticker switch, as seen troughout MM's levels.

It will be shown in front-view, probably from the top.

Something like this: http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5119/tord.jpg (http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tord.jpg)

As if it's crawling onto the back wall, but it's not moving at all.

Hope that clears things up Pitcard

Crystal clear. Maybe I'll give it a shot... if I have time (ie not playing Killzone)

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of this level.

Ye I don't play much indy games but Cave Story was really special. Someone on these forums has recreated the first 2 areas in cave story as LBP levels. They're perfect. Maybe you've played them ^^

Will check out Iji! Thanks

Heh Pitcard, i did I believe he was called "Phort" or something like that. His levels go right up to the part where you are about to go to Egg Corridor I loved those levels. He's done a great job on the air tank and the dialouges.2009-03-15 13:26:00

Mind if I make one, but it will only work infront of something: ie, not on the back thin layer, as it will move.2009-03-16 04:50:00

Uhm dkjestrup, define "move"? It's fine if it could move, and it wont be places on the backmost thin layer. But, i don't want it to crawl all over the place, like a peek-a-boo kind of thing.. Some players might find the secret place, don't see the bug and go back, and they missed it by a second.. you know?

So yeah.. please define what you mean by moving.

As in, pistons moving parts of the shell up and down, but stationary. ie.

As analogy, think of me.

It is not me running around, but me standing still and moving my arms.

Get it?

EDIT: If I do, I'll be using it in my upcoming level, so... yeah...

Do pistons work on thin layers? I've never done this actually o.O

Please note that these bugs shouldn't be too detailed actually, since.. well it would be thermo heavy.

Well.. i declare this project dead :S I can't seem to find the interest to make it, and to me making a realistic cave level is hard...

Loads of ideas fail since it wouldn't be possible in a cave.. loads of mechanisms are too advanced to be placed in caves.. etc..

Srry guys
