Get your fool-proof 3-way elevators here!

Archive: 9 posts

Hello all.

In the help section, dobi6 requested help on a 3-way elevator that comes down again when a sackperson falls off. Having a 3-way elevator means, as you know, that the elevator cabin can be steered up & down and can be halted or reversed on command by the player. This feature allows the player to choose whereto (which floor) he wants to ride the elevator. Alas! the trouble starts when the poor devil falls out of the cabin. Unlike 2-way elevators, it is very hard to get them back down for the player to ride them again. If a construction doesn't manage this feat, it means that the player will have to restart the level just to get past that elevator.

Well, I took up the challenge and published two levels in which I demonstrate two types of fool-proof 3-way elevators. The simpler one simply goes back down automatically when a sackperson exits the elevator cabin. The other one has a call-back function. So this one stays suspended wherever the last sackperson left it, until someone (the same sackperson in the event that he fell out of the cabin or another passer-by) hits the call-back button at the ground level. The cabin then comes down again. Hopefully this manages to save some of those poor deplorable objects of the fustrated gamer's rage!

The levels are called "object demo 1: foolproof 3-way elevator" & "object demo 2: 3-way elevator with CALL-BACK FUNCTION".
My PSN is F_hydrocephalic. Both levels have price bubbles that contain the controls and are copyably to your moon!

It is, and I'm almost done building the pinnacle of LBP-elevator technology: an elevator that can be called from and ridden to any floor, and even stops dead perfectly level with surface of the floors themselves!2009-03-15 11:16:00

Hahah that would be awesome for industrial/towerblock/multi-path style levels. I also stumbled upon (but didn't) load these when trying to find the winch 3-way switch.2009-03-15 11:20:00

What did you stuble upon? Also, elevators like the one I'm describing are useful in a lot of contexts I think. For instance, the elevators in this thread and the one I'm finishing aren't bound to evenly spaced floors. You can implement them like that in any (quirky) setting that goes vertical.

*edit:just now I noticed the word 'multi-path' in your post. So I've just repeated you, sorry about that*

Ah, I thought that was what you meant, but wasn't sure. Anyway, If you feel you have use for a type of 3-way elevator that doesn't fustrate sackpeople too much, be sure to check them out. The switch behind it is very thermo-friendly, simple and winch-free.2009-03-15 11:42:00
