BACKSTORY

Episode 1

After the world ended a Sackboy emerged from the rubble, with no memory and no idea how he came to be, he set off to find others like himself. While searching the wasteland, he discovered the remnants of the "humans" a race of creatures that once dominated earth.

Now there were none.

Being a nomad had begun to wear on the Sackboy's body, his seams were becoming frayed and though he tried his best to clean his fabric, it never seemed truly clean. Sackboy was depressed but never gave up his search, he found old relics of the humans, books, computers, pictures... their bodies were made of meat, how strange.

The Sackboy carried around the pictures he found, sometimes he would imagine them as his family, cheering him on. It was a lonely existence.

That all changed one day when he discovered a building that seemed to have working electricity. He had heard what sounded like the rupturing of metal, creaking and screaming steel, then sparks and the thwap of electricity. Was he really hearing this? A large black building jutted up from the wasteland, it's side's seemed to be a highly reflective metal, it's middle resembled a giant eyeball, it seemed to be staring directly at the Sackboy.

Without hesitation, Sackboy ran to the large black building, the eye's gaze followed him, it's pupil convulsing as it struggled to keep up with the Sackboy's pace. Bounding over torn metal and broken glass, the clangs of hundreds of broken sprockets twinkled under Sackboy's feet. Though Sackboy was falling apart he was incredibly agile and he almost seemed to glide as he approached the building. The eye grimaced as the Sackboy bounded through an open back door.

Episode 2

Upon entering the building Sackboy came face to face with dozens of eyes. The room was almost entirely pitch-blue. The door shut behind him and the sound of a mechanized lock seemed to hint Sackboy was trapped. Sackboy tried the door and his guess was correct. ****it.

The eyes continued to watch him as he made his way down a long cooridor, he stopped suddenly at a large gap in the floor. A putrid smell wafted upward, he looked down into the hole, it was almost entirely black but he was certain he heard something slivering in the darkness, he jumped over the gap and continued down the hall.

"We thought everyone was dead.." suddenly boomed in Sackboy's ear, where were these voices coming from? Sackboy looked behind him and saw two eye's embedded in the black metal wall, they whispered to one and other, then glared at the Sackboy disapprovingly.

The eyes wondered if the sackboy could really help them. As they watched Sackboy work his way through their old security system, the eyes were becoming more and more impressed with the sackboy. Somehow he was able to get past every obstacle put in his path.

Sackboy looked down at the electrified floor below him, holding his breath, he let go of a large hanging cylinder, . He fell to the ground, the large cylinder swung back in the opposite direction, Sackboy laid on the ground and stared at the ceiling. The cylinder swung back over him, then back out of a view again. He struggled to catch his breath as his stood up, he continued down the long corridor.

It was now or never the eyes decided, they looked at Sackboy. "You've passed our little obstacle course Sackboy." As Sackboy bounded down the hallway, he wondered what he was running to, why was he so drawn to this building? What was drawing him to the end of this hallway?

The eyes finally cut to the chase, "We need your help Sackboy, we are dying". Sackboy stopped in his tracks, he looked at the stream of eyes that covered the wall next to him. They looked down at him sadly. He didn't really understand what was going on, or what this place was.. but how could he say "no"?

To continue the story play episode 3.

EPISODE 18

Led by Autonomicon, Sackboy continues through the 18 chambers of the Automated Emergency Override System. What lies ahead? Some very strange and disturbing things indeed...

This is probably unlike any level you have played...maybe that is an overstatement, hopefully not . I don't want to ruin it but the level starts out very similiarly to other episodes but soon takes a drastic turn. You'll notice it. If it seems like the story seems to take a backseat this episode, you'd be wrong. This episodes has many elements that will come together in the final episode(Episode 20).

Time to create: 30+ hours
Difficulty: Medium
Players:1-4
Length: Long
Gameplay: Platforming/Paintinator/Open-Level
- 100% custom content (I think I did a lot in this level)...

Hopefully I can match expectations. I've never done anything so complicated in LBP before... but maybe that isn't saying much -_-

I was playing it with you and your friend, and you disappeared?

Internet and PS3 gone insane.... my PS3 had to be reset today because my sound got really screwed up when we played. My audio started buzzing and lines on the screen and weird stuff.

If you ever find the drives not working or weird graphical/audio glitches just reset all those settings by holding the power button down till it beeps when you start up. Anyway... I'm excited to see what people think

Hey great level. The first chamber of it was a little frustrating and there is ANOTHER hole in the entrance to the next chamber.
I felt down again...

I already filmed it and will upload it tomorrow. Cheers!

OK, so I'm playing this level and expecting it to simply continue where the last one left off (going through the different challenges) and all of the sudden.... wow!!!!! You turned the entire experience upside down and put an area that is revolutionary, I couldn't believe I was in the same game for a little bit!

It was so cool to experience (especially if you've played through all the other levels), I don't really want to ruin it by giving out any details about this area. But the feeling it gave me.... it was like I suddenly got goosebumps and thought "Where am I? What just happened?". GREAT twilight zone moment, and completely different gameplay than any other level you've created.

After than, there was more great gameplay up to the end of the level.

Fantastic work, man!

Hey man, just finished this a few mins ago and I just have to say........ **** you!

Now I have to go and play through all 18 levels

I really enjoyed this and you have a great story backed up with some fantastic visuals. I liked the plot twist you added.

This level has clearly been played by a few bad eggs as even after a 5 star rating from me it was still only on 2 stars? Whats wrong with people. I think kids just get jelous when they see something they know they can't do themselves.

Anyway, enough moaning more celebrating! Yay for LittleBig Apocalyse. I think I'll be ploughing through the rest of the levels soon enogh!

I've been meaning to tackle this series for a while now, but I kinda want to do it all in one shot. The concepts are great, and am totally intrigued by the story.

But seriously snowspot, I've got to ask. How the hell have you had time to make 18 levels?!? Even at 30 hours apiece (conservative estimate) ... thats 540 hours!!

I can definately tell you from personal experience (I've been playtesting them for a while now) that the process has been kind of interesting. The first, maybe, 11 seemed to take a fairly short period of time and were more based on story-content than complex mechanics. However, the he spent a lot more time on the later levels (12 and up) and the quality of the content and gameplay caught up with the story.

I figure the last few each seemed to take a few weeks, and at this point the levels are actually pretty amazing. He also went back and heavily updated a number of the earlier levels, so the entire series is getting to be a really high quality experience.

Even though many of these are difficult, I would strongly suggest playing through them all. Yes, the last few are a lot of fun in themselves, but the whole story is really intriguing.

My favorite line in the series: "Sackboy.... do you bleed?"

Just updated the level. Added a new sticker system so you wont have to go through a certain part of the level more than once.

Also addressed SuperBlasts problem.

but i thought 19 would be the end but there would be a 19a and 19b with two differant endings but after playing this i guess i was wrong since you can't have 21 levels but still can't wait to see the ending. plus i wanna know more about what happened to the man and the algorithm.2009-03-12 23:50:00

ok tried again and got past it.

Any ways i like it just as much as the others and thats good! when i got to the end of the village chamber i thought it was going to give me a choice between killing them or somehow not kill them kinda like the last one with the virus. Which would have been cool.

but i thought 19 would be the end but there would be a 19a and 19b with two differant endings but after playing this i guess i was wrong since you can't have 21 levels but still can't wait to see the ending. Plus i wanna know more about what happened to the man and the algorithm.

ahem! Spoilers pls!

Originally Sackboy did just kill them and you actually see it, but then I realized that wasn't in-character at all.. since Sackboy isn't like that, it didn't make sense, he would care more about saving people then getting to the final chamber.

Dude, you published your level just as the 6 year olds were getting out of school.

By the way, I put a 5 star on it and it jumped up to 3 stars for about 2 minutes.

Publishing time doesn't matter. IT would never matter what time Mario was published. It's clear from low stars that this level is not accessible to most general players. It's in a series and has quite a high number... and quite a bit of story is involved.

Even though it is in a series... it should be accessible to EVERYONE. Maybe it's not... maybe that's why I get low scores... I dunno.

I would just hate the board to start having the general consensus that the average LBP player doesn't know what is fun. Publishing time shouldn't matter if your level is great. Like I said, would it matter what time a mario-calibur game was published? Probably not. Gaming is about having a personal vision but still going out of your way to get as many people into your vision as possible. You're always going to have to change things... no one is perfect.

I guess I just want to know where I"m going wrong.

I was kidding.... but in experimenting heavily for the last 2 weeks, it does matter. shouldn't..... but does.

And there's NOTHING you've done wrong. It's just difficult to target an audience in LBP.

Now, if you WANT to mass audience, I can help you there - but I think your levels would need to compromise enough so that I personally wouldn't like them as much - right now they completely kick butt.

I updated this a bit and fixed some things, so if you've played it before, maybe you should play again

I also posted a link to LBA 18 on my newgrounds page and managed to get almost 450 hits(!)

Sadly(and interestingly) this did not translate to plays. It seems more people would rather watch a video then play( or go through the motions of turning on the ps3 and blah blah blah).

Here take a look for yourself, look at the statistics! 20 hits from LBPC and over 400 from newgrounds.com o_O

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwHVW_Z19Ds&eurl=http://jmartin97.newgrounds.com/news/post/280491

I see an untapped market here somewhere. Maybe we should try to get newgrounds to partner with LBPC temporarily to create a NEWGROUNDS level contest. I'm willing to talk people I know on the site to get it started. Would anyone be interested?
