Are LBP Forums, dead?

Archive: 24 posts

Seems every LBP forum I go to is pretty much inactive. This is pretty concerning 2018-07-08 14:00:00

Been very slow for quite some time. The fat lady hasn't sung yet, but she might be somewhere warming up. lol2018-07-08 15:10:00

It always seems that way, but I've never seen a thread not get a response within a couple of hours, so I'd say no. People just aren't creating threads as often.2018-07-08 19:54:00

I would also say that they aren't dead...yet! And the patient will stay alive as long as my defibrilator is operational!

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah, LBP is probably not dead. There's definitely still some activity, even if it feels dead. I don't necessarily think it's "dead". It's more that time passed, people grew out of high school and headed to college and work, and people just have less time to play LBP then they used to. Also, people have gotten tired of playing LBP and want to play other games.2018-07-10 15:19:00

I don't think that there are too little people playing LBP, team picked levels still get more than 10.000 plays. But I think that the new generation of players are more players than creators! When I started to play LBP in 2011 there was still a kind of hype and in the forums you found many people who experimented with the neww possibilities of LBP2 and everybody wanted to share his experiences with the communitiy, which gratefully seized new ideas and techniques. Gamer, which start to play LBP these days don't find such a kind of hype anymore. Beginner levels rarely get feedback, which encourages them to try more! To beginners the team picked levels must be unbelievable, even in 2011 team picked levels have been unbelievable,...but then we got help from a vivid and enthusiastic community.
I don't think that we have too little players, but I think that today players have less aid to get familiar with all the possibilities of the LBP editor and so I think that the situation won't change anymore!
...but I think that with "Dreams" we will get a new hype and then we will get a new community which will find its way into forums again!

LBP is not dead, as long as good levels get published, reviewed by Waffleking, LSRS or me, team picked and of course played. The forums on the other hand aren't as popular anymore and it seems that nobody really has enough time to put out contests, level picks or something similar.

I don't think that Dreams will draw too much attention to the forums as LBP did, but it will revive the play/create/share franchise somewhat. We'll see in the future.

@CuriousSack - I totally agree! LBP is so much different from when I first played the game back in 2010. The popular creators who played LBP from like 2010 - 2015 are like all gone now. But it's nice to see this new generation of creators who are making stuff.

@mdkd99 Yeah I agree. Like jwwphotos said, it might be getting close, but it's not really dying. It's more just passing its legacy on to Dreams.

I'm still here. Not much but I do check as I recently did an LBP3 Community Mashup with two friends over on Twitch. Not sure where to post the highlight video for others to see?2018-09-17 11:57:00

I felt compelled to post...…

It's been 10 years since I built my first levels. My son and I spent many hours playing this game together (he was 7 years old at the beginning... now he's in college). I've built a number of friendships. I've had an incredible amount of fun. I still pop out to LBP.me to watch people enjoying my creations.

LBP still rocks! Yes, its dying - but this is, in my opinion, still the greatest video game creation of all time.

Totally feel you man. I'm going to be graduating high school soon, but when I was in middle school this site was so much more populated.

Not just this site, some other sites too. It's kind of the end of the life cycle of the forums. And Dreams is around.2018-10-11 05:54:00

I think once the game is actually released, a lot of people in the LBP community should come back.

I wouldn't say millions, but thousands are going to be interested when they see what Dreams is capable of.2018-10-11 16:41:00

But will they come back to this site is a question. Personally I love this style of forum and the look is my favorite alongside the LBP music one (but I always forget which one that is). It seems more people prefer discord which I will NEVER understand. All it seems good for is announcements with the few channels. Seems messy to me.2018-10-12 11:19:00

I think they will. LBP fans have a kink for coming back and banding together whenever some Media Molecule or LBP related news comes by. I mean, look at what happened with LBP3. Tons of old fans came back to the series around June 2014, when LBP3 was initially announced. Dreams will be just the same. All Media Molecule needs to do, IMO, is to make an appearance at the 2019 or 2020 E3 events. That way almost all the old fans will come back.

I think it's ironic how there is a lot of action in a thread called 'Are LBP forums dead?' It contradicts itself in a way. Just something I realised.

Anyway, I agree, fans came back to see what LBP3 looks like. Dreams is a totally different looking game though. I think a few people will come back to the site, but the golden time for forums seems to be over for the most part.

I was saddened to see this close the French LBP forums one after the other. Do not close this forum please! same if it should turn it into LBDREAMS forum.
And don’t forget to come and test my levels because there aren’t many people visiting my planet ;p
