LK9988's Paintball turret challenge!

Archive: 9 posts

This isn't exactly the newest level on LBP and it's not my newest level either, but I thought I would post about it here for you guys to know about it.

In the MGS pack levels your sackperson would of gotten their hands on a great gadget and massive add-on to the game, the Paintinator. Now there is another painball firing device (made by myself) that you can get in my level, the Paintinator turret. The level itself is a survival challenge where you must control a turret (by a 3-way switch and a button) to shoot down diamonds and other turrets above you. It still needs a bit of tweaking to do in the future but the level overall works fine.

Features:
- 8 stages of paintball fun!
- A paintball firing turret that comes as a prize!
- Nice visuals and lighting!
- Different types of diamonds to destroy during the minigame for more variety!
- Secret score bubbles scattered around the stage!
- A tutorial letting you know how to control the turret!

I hope you try out and enjoy my level! The name of the level and my psn are in my signature.

Sorry, I haven't got any pics or a video yet showing footage of my level.

Sweet! I'll have to try it out sometime!!
I've experimented with capturing paintballs, and it's really fun!

Lol long wait for a reply.

Sounds like a good level but I can't play it because my PS3 isn't working too well.

This was a pretty fun idea for a minigame. The design was pretty much the same as the Metal Gear levels, but I thought you did it very well. The doors at the beginning where a bit tricky to jump through though, especially the one on the right, it kept trying to shut everytime I would try to jump over the bottom part.

The actual minigame itself was pretty cool and I liked the big turret, but it was awfully slow to move. Have you though about making the turret just a bit smaller and maybe tweaking the speed that it moves? I think that might help a bit. Also, somehow I made the turret move out of it's spot just a bit. I'm not sure how that happened exactly, but it was when I was pulling the level really hard to the right.

Anyway, this was a fun idea and with a little more tweaking I think you'll have a great little mini game.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I might do some tweaking in the future just to make it move faster, and I'll make the crystals you shoot better too. About the turret moving a bit I can't really do anything to help that. The way the turret gets destroyed is by a paint switch connected to the brain of the turret, and if I connected it to the floor once the turret dies the whole level would just disappear! I might remove the doors too.

Thoughts as they happen.

- The doors just after the person tells you about the paint gun is a bit dodgy. If you`re close enough to open it, you get squashed and when you try to jump through it closes. If it`s supposed to be a broken door then fair enough.
- The lft section would probably benefit from making all the bolts invisible as all I can see is motor bolts the whole way down.
- The gun itself is pretty well made.
- There`s a feature/flaw in the design in that the button to fire is so close to the right of the button that often when aiming to the right, Sackboy stands on the button while pulling the switch and it fires constantly. It doesn`t of course do this when aiming left.
- Was I getting points? Maybe I just didn`t get very far (I seem to remember seeing 'Level 5' flash up at one point) but I never really noticed whether I was getting points for getting kills or not.
- If it`s a score challenge, IMO there should`t be score bubbles lying around in hidden areas to be collected as they can distort the scores for actually doing the challenge.
- There was a small bug where the really small target would get hit, swing up and get stuck between the dark matter and the ceiling meaning I couldn`t shoot it and it could`t shoot me.

All in all it`s a fairly pretty level in the style of MGS. I like that it`s a different take on the target shooting minigame genre, it`s a good challenge and isn`t overly long or overly short.

4 stars and competitive tag.

Thanks for the feedback. I did some of the things just a while ago that you suggested. I've gotten rid of the doors at the start, the motor bolts down the lift are invisible now, and I've made the switch which fires the paintballs a bit more away from the 3-way switch, so when you pull the 3-way switch to the right you can't be pressing the button at the same time.

About the points thing you are getting points. The higher level you get up to the more points you earn at the end (but I might want to change that).
