Can caption boxes be muted?

Archive: 6 posts

I haven't found anything online about this. Whenever a caption box appears, it makes the "swish" sound effect. Does anyone know if there is a way to silence them?2018-02-03 10:10:00

Good question, maybe in the global sound settings, perhaps there you can mute the sfx sounds...or something in that way?
How do you get the captions? By a magic mouth?

Oh Curious - I knew it would be you! Lol. I did not mess around with those settings, that is a good idea. Yes, magic mouth has 3 settings, speech bubble, thought bubble and captions (well, and subtitles.) I use my mouths on positional sequencers with batteries to keep them permanently on screen. I've implemented them to provide information on screen that toggles every 5 seconds. Meaning, that annoying sound happens every 5 seconds. I spent so much time positioning the text in the mouths to make them look nice, it would be a bummer to have to undo it - but it is seriously maddening to have to hear and takes very much away from the sound theme. I will tinker with global settings now and see if it works, thanks so much. I will post my findings!

No. Absolute fail. I turned every sound in the entire level to zero, which also destroys any intentional sound effect to make a completely silent world - and the only sound that persists is the freaking mouth. Max volume, not even slightly dimmed. Chime swish. Chime swish. Chime swish... until you want to blow your brains out. What a freaking bummer. Seriously 4 hours of work completely out the window. What a waste. I even tried adding a voice, disabling ducking and putting the source of the mouths in the opposite end of level. The sound of a magic mouth is absolutely global and unchangeable. I even tried putting the mouths in emitters, seeing if instead of toggling but being destroyed and created would make a difference. Nothing even remotely affected the sound. Can't even be masked, even if I put some other sound to also play every 5 seconds, the sound of the mouth is much louder than any other sound you can put in. Darn.

I will try to find a solution this evening, I will post my experiences afterwards! ...always optimistic!

Edit:

I've found a solution...maybe that you've noticed that if you activate the magic mouth by wiring it to a switch there is no possibility to activate the option subtitles in the settings of the magic mouth. But if you put the magic mouth on a sequencer, then the subtitles option can be activated and the subtitles are opening without any sound!

I do know subtitles are silent - but subtitles can't help me. The whole point is to have a shaped box in the corner :-( I still need to throw everything I made away, even if I did implement subtitles. What I had spent all my time on was making the boxes look like a grid, I had 35 caption boxes made with specific information aligned in rows and columns. Like a table of information you can cross reference. The time spent was to be certain every caption had the exact same width and height - you can't do anything like that via subtitles. But thanks for checking it out for me :-)2018-02-04 03:30:00

Ok, thats the problem! In this case I probably would write the texts on sticker panel and activate them with switches.2018-02-04 08:12:00
