Dawn of Evil - Survival Challenge

First of all, I'd like to say hello to everyone on lbp central! I've not been in the online forum loop for lbp very much and the little bit I have been involved with has been over at LBPWorkshop! So, without further ado allow me to present to you my (subjectively chosen ) best level thus far. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- PSN : Asbestos101 Level : Dawn of Evil - Survival Challenge Short Description : Fend off hordes of the undead from your house for as long as possible. Featuring enemies with increasing difficulty and ever mounting odds, will you live long enough to face the dreaded Gobber? http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7264/aphoto4u.jpg Just starting... http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/3047/aphoto32.jpg The horde arrive! http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6281/aphotoi.jpg Zombie Torso http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/1145/aphoto1z.jpg Standing Zombie http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/6103/aphoto2.jpg Flaming Zombie http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/9272/aphoto3.jpg The Zombie 'Gobber' Please enjoy and rate and such. This level was actually pretty cool! I played it twice. The only reason I didn't play it again was because my hand started cramping! This is pretty much a "Night of the Living Dead" type of level. Zombies keep relentlessly attacking and you just try to fend them off for as long as you can. Nicely done! Only 1 suggestion - and you can take it with a grain of salt because its completely subjective: The aesthetics in the house could be a little better. They look OK, however in a level where you stand in one place for a long time the visuals need to be really good. So, my suggestions: a) Maybe add a little more detail into the background and possibly foreground (thin layer at the front) to make the room you're in look better. b) Darken the level some and add some mood lighting. Since this is a zombie game, this could be REALLY effective in creating an appropriate ambience. To give you a little inspiration on the mood lighting: F4F - Splat Invaders II: The Caverns of Splat (PSN: CuzFeeshe). I use lighting objects for EVERYTHING in this level, so it might give you some ideas. Also, another author who is absolutely AMAZING with lighting AND aesthetics is Takelow - try his "The Bearer" series. The first one may give you a few ideas for the background in your house, and ALL of them will give you ideas for lighting. | 2009-03-10 00:06:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I appreciate your feedback and I will play those levels (added to my garry's mod and LBP book of wonderment) but unfortunatly I am at 100% of my thermometer with that level. The emitters eat a lot of the space because of the way its sequenced and how it builds up. If you watch carefully, it starts off with zombie torso's only, then a few standing up ones come in, then an explosion goes off and then flaming ones come in and the torso's stop coming. Then after a while with only standing up zombies, the gobbers will frequently spawn. Then torso's start dropping down from the ceiling. *Phew* that was a mouthful, but yeah, the duration that the zombies stay around for limits the size of the level. I also can't put any more decoration on the front plane because it interferes with the arms of the zombies on the front plane. There is no way around it, even if the arms were on the back plane, then I could have no details on the back wall. I'll see what can be done with lights however... | 2009-03-10 01:33:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
No problem! Also, in case it helps - Wyth and I were playing with the thermo and there appears to be SEPARATE thermos for different purposes - only the one you have used the most shows. So, you may have enough thermo for lights and even backgrounds because I BELIEVE the thermo you are using for the zombies is really the separate objects thermo. Anyway, just something to play with. | 2009-03-10 02:06:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Ohh, I didn't know that about the thermo's. I'll have to have a play (If I get my fixed save data back from MM, ****it random corruption glitch ) | 2009-03-11 08:42:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
