Survive This! - Part 2

Archive: 68 posts

We understand, you're busy - you don't want to read all of this to compete, and you don't have to! Just follow these simple steps and you're in the running to win!

Search @LBPCentral in LittleBigPlanet. It should redirect you to one of the 3 levels published under our PSN.
Hit Square and select "More from this author". You'll see our Polaroid snapshot surrounded by 3 levels. Those 3 levels are the basis for this contest.

Note: These levels are not made by LBPCentral - the titles of the levels have the creator's PSN in them, so please take a look at the rest of their levels as well!

Achieve a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place rank on any of the 3 levels and you'll win one of the prizes up for grabs! Read the Prizes! section below for more detailed info on the prizes we're offering. Also, you only have 2 weeks from this thread's post date before the contest is over, so get to it!

Survive This! is a two part competition based on survival challenges. Part 1 was all about Create - the goal was to create the best Survival Challenge you possibly could, and we would pick a top 3 from those levels. We received a whopping 38 entries for Part 1; you may find the full list of submissions here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=9231).

What's the point of Part 2?
We're using the winning levels from Part 1 as the basis for this contest. The goal here is to earn a highscore (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) on as many of the 3 levels as you can before two weeks is up. Use this thread's post date (March 8th, 2009 / GMT-8) as a guide.

What are the 3 levels?
Level Title:Sack'a'light
LBPCentral username: Dorien
Short Descriptionut out the red lights before they go boom. You do this with your white light beam that follows sackboys movements. Can you make it to the top SPEED 9 ??????

Level Title: Jungle Jumps
LBPCentral username: Cruelm0nster
Short Description : Try to stay as long as you can on the platform and collect points. But be careful: The monkeys don't like you ...!
Pictures/Video :
http://i44.tinypic.com/i4o3kh.png

Level Title: Rocket Hurdles : Electric Dusk
LBPCentral username: Lokno
Short Description (optional): A survival challenge where the objective is to avoid electrified hurdles rocketing toward you. These hurdles span all three layers, and there are 1-2 two holes in them which you must jump or shift toward to clear each.
Where can I find these levels?
Each of these levels are published under the PSN LBPCentral. However, we do not take credit for their creation. The Creator's PSN is in the title of each level, so there should be no confusion about who made them. I repeat: LBPCentral did not make these levels. We simply republish them under our account to make it easier for you to find them.

Prizes!
Prizes are a big deal, and we know that. That's why you could potentially win every prize up for grabs! Here's how it works: we don't just award 1 prize to each person - if you place in two (or even three) levels, you'll earn each and every prize associated with that place. That means the more you play, the more you win!

Each first-place win will earn you 1000xp and an Ultimate Bundle. If you already have an Ultimate Bundle, you may opt to accept an extra 1500xp instead (2500xp total).
Each second-place win will earn you 500xp and a Premium Bundle. If you already have a Premium Bundle or better, you may opt to accept an extra 1000xp instead (1500xp total).
Each third-place win will earn you 750xp.

Not likely judging by the amount of practice us here will be getting!
Plus, not many people will go to the LBPCentral account - they'll likely go to the original. Still, would be weird.....
I just got 3rd on Dorien's Sack'a'light! YEAH!
Failed miserabley at the other levels though (got around #7 on both of the others )

If you've added your PSN on the site, I can easily find out which PSN belongs to which user. You should be fine.

If you go to the "User CP" which is the second selection on the long menu bar, then select "Edit Your Details" (the first option) and then put in your PSN, which is the last category to fill in, it will show your PSN information whenever you post. 2009-03-10 10:44:00

Sny, you're insane...

I think.. once you get around 1000 points on hurdles, you are able to get some insane combo's because the hurdles will spawn really really fast... But yeah, i don't really like it.. and the scores are way to high for me..
It feels really buggy to me.. i dunno but i have trouble switching lanes.. It just denies to switch lanes sometimes...

Yeah i get the hump with it when you know you pressed to change lanes but it doesn't and you die. Although i think thats more to do with the lbp machanics than the level being buggy. And if sny is that player25535788........ Whatever it is, then yes he is one sick individual
Last time i checked i was 4th on rocket hurdles with just over 1000 points so i can't imagine getting that much of a high score. But as you say, i guess the multiplier goes up when it gets faster.

Ok, seeing as you might be able to hit 1 million in Rocket Hurdles, here's how it will work: if 1 million points is reached by 3 people before the end of this contest, they will all win 1st place prizes and the level will be locked. No 2nd or 3rd place prizes will be handed out if this happens. However, if 1 million is not reached by 3 people, the contest will continue as normal. If two people end up tieing with 1 million, they will both recieve 1st place prizes, with 2nd and 3rd place prizes handed out as appropriate.2009-03-12 00:57:00

Wow.. that's pretty lame.. scoring the maximum score on a survival challenge.. I immediately thought of scoring 1 million when i saw Sny's score of 300.000 orso.. Hmm.. pretty lame in my opinion Still a good survival challenge though2009-03-12 17:21:00

Yeah, thanks for pushing me on! It was funny getting home every night and seeing my old score tripled, and knowing I had to triple yours now... we were bound to hit the limit at some point.

I was kinda disappointed when I got the 7-digit score at last, I actually had enough score to reach 2 million based on the score display in the top left corner, and was nowhere close to dying... I ended up standing still and waiting for the next hurdle to make my score count.

Anyway, the last 1.000.000 spot is still open guys, so hurry up before the level is closed!

See, this is more proof than you'll ever need that the judges had a very hard time in picking the top three from Part 1. I can't even force myself to play Sack'a'light or Jungle Jumps after 2-3 tries, but I loved competing for the high score on Rocket Hurdles. People have very different thoughts on what is boring, challenging or frustrating.2009-03-14 19:31:00

Sny, how far do you get in Sack'a'Light? Sackalight and Jungle Jumps are progressing in difficulty slower than Rocket Hurdles.. so the beginning might be boring, but it gets intense afterwards Sackalight gets quite interesting at speed 3 already, and 6 and higher will keep you on your toes And then there's ofcourse speed 9

EDIT: i might know why nobody tries it ;P I just raised my score from 12.226 to a whopping 14.374

Sny, how far do you get in Sack'a'Light?

I only played the level twice, first time around I died at speed 2, and on the second try I died at speed 4. I found the level too devoid of any atmosphere to try again... Jungle Jumps depends too much on luck for my taste, and the score bubbles are annoyingly hard to catch if you don't want to fall off with them, so I went with Rocket Hurdles, since it required concentration and reflexes over a longer period of time, something I'm good at.

If I didn't have a shared #1 spot on Hurdles already, I'd probably give the other two a few tries again, but since I do, I'd rather spend my time in LBP creating.

Weird, for me it seemed that Rocket Hurdles was the level with the slowest difficulty progression... it's funny how people have such different experiences playing levels in LBP and relating/comparing them to one another. Just another reason why I think one or two sentences of feedback is far more useful for a creator than 50 hearts, 100 ratings or 1000 plays.

I have a question. Will LBPCentral be taking these levels down after the contest? I realized going into this that I wouldn't be seeing the foot traffic through the original published copy of the level, but I didn't expect so many people to favorite the LBPCentral version of the level (93 as of writing, and my copy only has 78). Could a statement like "Please favorite the original copy published by AUTHORNAME" be added to the description of the levels? Also, after the contest, instead of deleting the levels immediately, could a placeholder level be published in their place which explains that the levels were published for the contest, and that they players should go to the original copy? This could give people who hearted the contest version time to react and heart the original. Just a suggestion, I don't mean to be a pest, but people who hearted a level presumably want to play it again.2009-03-16 02:07:00

The hearts are likely coming from visitors to the site, as our PSN isn't widespread. At the end of the contest, we plan to lock the levels and change the description to direct players to the original. The levels will remain in that state for an extra two weeks, at which point they will be taken down for good.

Seeing its a survival level, I think the first mil should take the prize. Everyone had the exact same chance to reach the mil. The rules should not change after the start imho. That is exactly why the winning levels had to be copied from the creator in the first place, so nothing could get changed in the level.

hey i was the first one to reach a mil in electric hurdle but i think the specifications the admin put down are fine. since the original rules didnt include anything about ties or scorecaps. besides whats the point of having a contest that lasts for two weeks if its first to a mil wins? its about skill not speed. what i meant when i made that quote was that i wish the compitition for the higher score could have lasted longer cuz sny and i had a really fun rivalry going on there, plus if the admin is dishing out the xp it should be by there rules.2009-03-17 04:27:00

That's not exactly true, since depending on where you live, you might've been sleeping or going to work in the morning or whatnot when the contest started, which means someone will have already had a lot of plays on the levels by the time you get home to turn on your PS3.

The rules should not change after the start imho. That is exactly why the winning levels had to be copied from the creator in the first place, so nothing could get changed in the level.

As redmagus said, the rules didn't change, they didn't cover this scenario in the first place. They merely got extended after I sent a PM to ConfusedCartman notifying him of the possibility of reaching 1 million. I already had ~400.000 at that point, but I had other plans for that evening, so I asked him how the rules would apply to the hard score cap of 1.000.000.

The answer is the one you see in this thread, which meant I didn't have to be antisocial and turn down the fun programme that was planned for that evening and go for the 1mil then and there instead (which is not harder than getting 400k, just longer, since the speed doesn't increase). I knew redmagus would pass me during the night if I stopped, so knowing these rules influenced my choice whether to stop or go on, it would be quite unfair to revoke them now.

I'm assuming the current 3rd place score on rocket hurdles doesn't count since it was set by the level creator. If that is the case, I'm up to 4th and oh so close to 3rd. I don't see myself getting a million, though I have been getting to the point where the multiplier starts adding up a lot.2009-03-18 02:48:00

I'm assuming the current 3rd place score on rocket hurdles doesn't count since it was set by the level creator. If that is the case, I'm up to 4th and oh so close to 3rd. I don't see myself getting a million, though I have been getting to the point where the multiplier starts adding up a lot.
Yeah, the creator's score is not counted when we tally the winners.

Played these for the first time tonight... got top 10 on 2 within 30 minutes each. #6 On Sack-A-Light & #9 on Rocket Hurdles, Jungle Jumps just annoys me. It would be higher on Rocket Hurdles but my Sackboy doesn't respond to my down joystick command very well after clearing the one specific hurdle that is in the back then you have to move forward one (or you can move up twice then jump and go back one but that takes too long). I'll keep trying though. BTW it's easy if you memorize the pattern.2009-03-20 07:27:00

To be completely honest, I lost track of time. We've got other things in the works and I tend to head up the planning of most of them, so sometimes I lose track. I'm sorry for the delay; I'm getting everything finalized right now, and I'll post a winners thread ASAP.2009-03-25 00:15:00
