I'll never get recognized.

Archive: 7 posts

Considering that LBP isn't played as much as it was, and the literally millions of levels, I'm not going to be seen by the vast majority of people. I try my best, and always so with what I'm able to use, but I don't know many people that I can tell about my profile. There are already famous people, that people go to but will ignore me. I always thought LBP had an end goal, getting an Mm or Team Pick / Crown, and that goal is impossible. My friend martw1971 is making a level that so far is quite complex, with a Super Mario Odyssey feel to it, but it won't be seen. It's taken us 3 days just to get the first part done. 1 more for just a little, teeny, tiny part of the second, but it won't matter. What I'm saying is, what's the point of making levels for people to play for nobody other than 6 people, my brother and myself? Bye now. (Sorry if it sounded depressing lol.)2017-07-31 00:08:00

Games are usually for fun... not really to be "recognized". While it was nice to get tons of plays back in the day, nobody will remember anyone other than the friendships along the way.2017-07-31 00:59:00

It depends on your own viewpoint. If you're just in it for the plays and the "fame" then you have to take many things into consideration. LBP3 has a greatly different community system compared to previous installations and it's much harder for someone unknown to "start all over", so to speak. It was a lot easier to build and maintain a name before with all the easily accessed categories such as the "cool pages", which were utilized by both unknown and known creators to cash in those plays and reach a wider audience - and maybe even ultimately get picked or get a permanent place in the legendary lists such as "most hearted" or "highest rated". With many of those options now gone you have to re-adjust to the new options that LBP3 offers, they may be few but it's at least something.

To really get plays these days you have to take advantage of the heart system. Basically you can start with advertising the level on all LBP forums to gain some quick plays from various of known names - this will then result in a chain reaction, if the content is hearted of course. And all while the level gains more hearts it will slowly climb the "most hearted" section and if it reaches top five you are good to go. From there it will gain a so called "hot spot" - which means that all kinds of players hovering over the community lists will spot it. And if it manages to climb to the top before seven days has passed after publishing, expect a huge surge in traffic - this may even be enough to land a spot in the "busiest levels" category as well. After seven days the level will disappear from the "most hearted" section unfortunately and with that nearly all traffic.

It really sucks, I've been there on both sides, from barely getting any plays to getting thousands for nearly no effort. The system is more unfair than ever but at the same time more rewarding for those who makes it. You can also always hope for a level of the day which is bascially the best-case-scenario when it comes to attracting plays. I'd say good luck with your ventures and never give up, there is always hope!

And lastly, if you are really desperate for plays you need to offer levels that appeals to the mass audience - which are younger people. Just by doing that you are exponentially increasing your chances of getting attention. But personally, I always value a few unique plays from serious players over a thousands of meaningless plays from random kids with nothing to say, just my two cents.

I only can agree with blacksackman, I also prefer plays and reviews from serious players, I'm glad when my friends like my levels! I never reached astronomical numbers of plays, though I've often spent several months for my creations! I do advertisement in every LBP forum and on twitter! And in earlier days I've sent a personal message to every buddy in my friend list on PSN about my publications)
No crown and no team pick so far! But this is totally ok for me! After all, what sense would it make to participate in a crown contest if I already would have one!
Enjoy creating, enjoy communicating with your friends in the forums, enjoy playing with friends...enjoy this fantastic game!

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

Exactly... If you think about it, you are being recognized right now. Then again, with topics like this you might end up being known as a bit of a whiney butt.

So be careful what you wish for.

Just make levels until you call it perfect (which is impossible). That keeps me going. What also keeps me going is to bring all my ideas into LBP.

Reviews and feedback is the best you can get. Not a crown or a pin. So just keep going man!
