(LBPC14) Water Splash

Sackboy has gone on on holiday, and it's time for his friends to make a splash!
For this contest, we want you to create an interactive water level for any character other than Sackboy. You can use Toggle, Osssock, or Swoop; or even have the the player change characters during the level if you want.
We want to see water used as an interactive gameplay mechanic, not just for visual aesthetics. You can use LBP's built in water feature, water projectiles, Floaty Fluid, home made dynamic water, or any combination. The judges will be looking for a clever use of water as a fun gameplay element. You can have a very short cinematic intro/ending if you want, but this contest is about interactive gameplay so make sure that's your focus.
The winner will receive a rare LBPC Pin and Crown!

Rules

• Create an original and previously unpublished single level, no level links.

• Levels must be played as a Toggle, Oddsock, or Swoop; not Sackboy.

• Levels must be single player compatible (judging will be done single player)

• Publish your levels by July 30th 11:59pm GMT (https://greenwichmeantime.com) and include the text “(LBPC14)” in the title of the level

• Post LBP.me links to your levels in this thread, so we’re sure not to miss them!

• You can only submit one entry.

• After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread and send me a PM.

• Last but not least, have fun, play fair and respect other creators, LBPC members, Judges and Staff! (Contestants banned from LBPC at any time during the period of the contest are automatically disqualified from it)

I'm conflicted by this.

On one hand, making a non-Sackboy water level sounds like a rad idea and definitely something that I'd be interested in doing. On the other hand, I hate making water levels in general, so there's that.

Look, first of all, I'm (kinda) feeling guilty for saying this, but I would feel even more guilty if I hadn't said it. So... I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, ........

So. It's about the Crown Contest. I think that the theme is awful. And to tell you the truth, almost every last crown contests has been like this. And I'll tell you why I do not like it.

LBP is a game of creation, so RESTRICTING people to "water", "circus", or "building" is horrible. You see, instead of using these terms, you could have used "wet", "spectacle", or "heights".

Make the competition theme more open, and not restricted, please! One more restriction was the exclusion of Sackboy. Instead of excluding something, why did you not add more possibilities for creators to have more creative freedom?

Like... What if someone wanted to make an aquatic level where the player controls an electric eel? What if someone wanted to create a level where the player controls a Submarine? Or even spongebob. Or freaking goku underwater.

Sorry AGAAAIN If I'm being too negative here , but I'm getting quite disappointed with the choice of themes that LBP's constests has received lately, and so, I'm writing this to (hopefully) make it even better. Love this forum and its people <3 Peace		2017-06-26 17:18:00

Using one of the characters new to LBP3 is part of the chamfer this contest; so I does have to be Toggle, Oddsock, or Swoop.

After the deadline they'll have to evaluate each entry and find the winner! And its easier to compare entries with the same theme than entries with totally different themes. The usage of water or ice or steam as an interactive gameplay mechanic is one of the criteria for the judges for the evaluation of each entry. Another criterion will be how the chosen character has to use his skills to interact with the water/ice/steam elements of the level.

I just wish I was good at creating small ideas that can be executed well in a short time span. That's the main problem I have with the contests and generally why I don't enter. I love them though!

Also interested to see what different mechanics people use with the water. Personally I see swoop and toggle having the most possibilities with this theme. Oddsock would need a lot of changes to have uniqueness, or have a land level with water as a vertical barrier (doggy paddle at top only XD)		2017-06-28 14:24:00

I think the crew should play all levels after the deadline, all people have still time to fix bugs and make their levels better, else maybe the crew has a bad feeling of the level now and this will affect the end result, when playing it again... just my opinion...		2017-07-02 17:03:00

we are several judges and in addition to the general criteria everyone has his own personal preferences! Good gameplay or good scenery or both! So every level will get a fair chance!
To me a minigame which complies with the contest theme is a promising thing!

For me personally it's the atmosphere of a level and how realistic the level is designed, when it's based of a real place. But I also like fantasy places, as long as they are lovely designed.

Im struggling with space in my level as im using a specific background as it makes all my lighting look more appealing rather than the infinite background. Im planning on making a small cutscene toward the ending however the lack of space is forbidding me, is it okay to make the cutscene in a separate level and have the level link to it or is that against the rules? My level ended up getting corrupted of some sort (a whole month of work!). If anybody here has ever had trouble with objects duplicating themselves ontop of eachother every time you enter the level do you have any info for fixing it? The best thing you can do is delete the duplicates and hope you didn't accidentally delete the original with all the logic2017-07-25 05:11:00

Sorry to hear that
If possible, the thing to do is probably to capture all the parts of your level and rebuild it in a new, empty level.

Hahaha, oh yes, Crunchyrolls are yummy and healthy...they are power food! And all the judges will need them to be fit for a gaming marathon! I've tried to win a reporter team to cover news about the judging process, but they called off cause they have to refresh from "Le Tour de France". So you'll have to wait... and we will have to solace all participants occasionally for the judges needing more time!
...but some day we will have a result and then there will be a party with a coronation ceremony!

I'm loving these levels. I haven't been rating/reviewing them in-game though, I'm remaining unbiased till the judging finishes.

I wrote a comment on my level but I figured I should mention it here as well. I accidently caused the level to republish yesterday as I pressed the "copyable" button after scrolling to far past "recent activity" on the level. I did not change the level in any way as is apparent by the fact the one area you are able to fall out of the map is still there lol. I would really be miffed if I got disqualified for this mistake considering the hundreds of hours that went into making it. Sorry again.2017-08-11 10:18:00
