Hi, I've been watching movies and playing video games and I figured I'd make a big thread to combine both things. I know we have separate threads for that kind of thing - but it's so silent around here I think a single thread would be best. Essentially this is a place to just talk about what kind of media you've been "consuming" lately and you talk a little about it. ALSO, DON'T FEEL THE NEED TO READ MY WHOLE POST (you can if you want though). Feel free to skim through it, and read the titles of what I watched/played. I also included brief descriptions of the media if you want to know what it's about. (First line in each section). Films I've watched: INTERSTELLAR My summary: The remnants of NASA are trying to figure out how to save humanity - and send a special team into a wormhole to see what could be a new home for humanity. Wow - what a film. It came out a few years ago but I have a serious movie backlog. I really, really liked it. It felt like true sci-fi rather than fantasy sci-fi. The tone of the movie reminded me of the game The Dig a bit. Overall I really liked it and left me with a sense of wonderment. THE SECRET OF NIMH A widowed mouse mother's son falls ill and she does everything she can to protect her family - but the local farmer will soon destroy her home - so she needs the aid of the mysterious rats who are said to have extraordinary intelligence. I'm trying to get into animation as a career - so I'm watching animated films. I had never seen this one until about a week ago. I kept my expectations kind of in the middle because Don Bluth films are a hit and miss for me. This movie was something really spectacular though. Apparently it was also meant to be rated PG but was given a G rating. I'd say it has enough in it that it might even tread into the PG-13 territory by today's standards. A character also curses in the movie - and it just made me giggle because it felt so appropriate for the scene. There's also blood, murder, and some pretty groundbreaking stuff when it comes to animation. (The main character is a widowed mother - that's probably a first for kid's films.) Overall a great movie, with some spooky, and also spectacular visuals. Kids should probably avoid it, but pre-teens and older are probably OK to go and see it. I'd place it as one of my favorite films. THE BOSS BABY A new baby arrives at a families home, and the older brother does everything he can to get rid of the bossy baby. I actually saw a pre-screening of this a month before it's release date. It was actually the first pre-screening of the movie, and the director and producer were there. (The director voiced Rico from the Penguins of Madagascar!) The director of the film The Book of Life was also there. To be honest I went into this film with lower expectations - I mainly went because animation stuff. The film was kind of flat for me, and simply wasn't quite my humor. I think others will really enjoy it, especially if you like classic animation like Bugs Bunny. There weren't really any parts that got me laughing (except a couple). Some of the scenarios in the film were also a little too ridiculous for me too (but it ties into classic animation type scenarios). AN AMERICAN TAIL Russian-Jewish mice must immigrate to America after being attacked by Bolshevik cats - but the family's youngest son becomes separated in the process. He must do what he can to find his family, and his new home in America. People say it was a great Don Bluth film so I watched this too. I think it was cool but I personally didn't enjoy it as much as The Secret of Nimh. I think I actually saw this one as a kid but I didn't remember anything about it except for the main character basically. I think some of the character designs were kinda silly (those pigeons were strange chaps). The story was pretty good but felt slow in some areas. Fivel also made a lot of dumb decisions throughout the film - but I think it was hilarious, and given he's just a kid, it's in-character so it's all good. THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER A pirate steals a book that can rewrite Bikini Bottom's future - and he uses it for nefarious purposes that Spongebob and crew must fight. I used to watch the show a ton as a kid - then sorta drifted away as I got older and the episodes got weirder. I really enjoyed the first Spongebob movie - this one felt like a miss for me though. I didn't find the humor all that great and overall I feel I may just be too old for this movie's intended audience. ANASTASIA A lost Russian princess turns-up with amnesia before two con-men who are trying to find a fake princess to fool the queen into thinking her lost daughter has been found. I remember watching this as a kid, and it really terrified me then. Overall a nice film, but I wouldn't place it that high. Back then I'm sure the visuals were spectacular - but as I watched it in HD there was some strange things like blurry backgrounds and weird 3D elements. I think they also blew the budget on some scenes - I mean there's a part where a WHOLE CITY is dancing - like hundreds of hand-drawn characters with complex motion. They're rotoscoped but come on - I think the budget could have gone somewhere a little better. THE TRUMAN SHOW A man's life has been chosen to be broadcasted to the entire world - unknowingly to him. I've seen this before and I remember it - and it's still a pretty good movie. The movie made me pretty emotional in some scenes. Overall good stuff. THE LITTLE PRINCE A girl must work hard to find her place in a local prestigious academy - but the new house she moved into has an eccentric and old neighbor, who's fantastic tales of a Little Prince draw her into a world of creative wonder. Excellent movie. It was originally meant to be shown in theaters across the US but for some reason Paramount dropped it shortly before release. Netflix picked it up and that's where I saw it. This is a great film with great animation. I wouldn't say it's the best ever but it's something that really has a special place. THE SONG OF THE SEA Something is strange about the lighthouse keeper's daughter, and her brother does all but love her. After they are forced to move out of there home, and into the city with their grandmother, the siblings realize that they must return to the lighthouse before time runs out. Lovely film. I enjoyed it more than the studio's previous film - The Secret of Kells. Good stuff, beautiful visuals, wonderful and unique story (Irish folklore!). THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016) A little boy lives among the animals of the jungle and gets into shenanigans. (Kinda getting tired of typing summaries). It was alright. I don't remember really anything about the original animated movie. I saw this in standard definition on Netflix so that probably took some of the charm out of it. Overall an OK movie for me. Television: A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS 3 siblings lose their parents in a strange fire. Left with a massive inheritance they can't access yet, we see the gothic tale of the Baudelaire Orphans as a strange and murderous Count Olaf does everything he can to get their fortune. I read the first 5 books as a kid and saw the movie they made with Jim Carrey. Overall it's a pretty funny show. As I know what happens, some parts were kinda boring. Also Mr. Poe gets pretty repetitive with his disbelief with the orphans. In the books though it's much more spaced out - I guess episode format makes him seem all the more repetitive. Video games: GHOST OF A TALE You play as a little mouse minstrel searching for his wife in a medieval fantasy animal world. Whooowee. This game is a favorite of mine. It's still in "Early Access," and it's pretty buggy, but I love it. Excellent visuals, excellent lore, excellent setting, etc. Great stuff. SAMOROST 3 You're a little man wearing pajamas. One day a strange horn lands on your property. You must journey across the universe to solve a strange mystery. Crazy beautiful. Love the visuals, love the music, love the world. It's like a children's storybook come to life. It has a hand-drawn look on everything. Also the dev's other games are wonderful too (I love Machinarium). FACTORIO You're shipwrecked on a hostile alien planet full of bugs. You must use your ingenuity to build a factory to help you survive, and eventually dominate. Still in Early Access. Fun to play with friends though. To be honest it's not 100% my kind of game but it's still very enjoyable. If you like building complex factories on hostile alien planets, this is the game for you. PRIMORDIA You're a robot with a forgotten identity living in a crashed ship in a wasteland. An intruder breaks in and steals your power source, now you need to hunt him down. Great game, great story. I really, really loved the atmosphere of this game. SO THERE'S ONE RULE WITH THIS THREAD. And I'm doing this to generate discussion, rather than just having people post and disappear. If you post about what you saw or played, you should at least reply to the poster above you, and talk about what they mentioned (at least one item). Ex. if they saw a movie, and you saw it too, maybe talk about what you thought about it.

Wow! I really like the idea of this thread. ( I only saw a couple of the films you've posted. Don't kill me.) Are you sure really want to know the media I eat up on a daily basis? Okay then, your funeral. Fallout: New Vegas I've poured over 270+ hours into this game, and it never ceases to amuse me. I'm currently on the "Old world blues" DLC. One of my favourites. It's about a bunch of brains inside (what used to be) a giant mountain, until the bomb fell, destroying turning the mountain into a giant crater, now known as the "The big empty" . As for the gameplay, it's the simple go-to-this-area-and-do-somethin'-then-come-back quests that most RPG's have. This would be a bad thing if the are was smaller, but it's actually rather large. Homestar runner. This one's a tad strange, so I'll try to make it short. Homestar runner is a website where can watch short cartoons and play flash games, pretty average stuff. Homestar runner has been running since 1997 (20 years) and yet it still holds when it comes to mocking the internet. I'm actually doing a 50/50 thing on another forum - 50 new movies/TV series/videogames in a year. I won't list all that I've watched so far, so here are a few highlights, plus a (very) brief review: Movies: Cartel Land Documentary about the drug war in Mexico and the US border. Disturbing that it's actually real, a lot of it seems too far fetched to be real.... but it is. The Martian I'm sure many have already seen this film. It's worthy of the praise it gets IMO. Fury Thought it would be a "hoo-rah America f-yea!" action movie for some reason. Glad I was wrong. Dogville An odd film that uses no actually sets, all of it takes place on a stage. If you're in the mood for something different, give it a try. Boyhood Drama about a boy and his family, filmed over a period of 12(?) years. Not for everybody, it's one of those movies with no real plot, but I enjoyed it. We're the Millers Jennifer Aniston stip tease. --- TV shows: The Man in the High Castle season 2 Season 1 was ok. Season 2 was considerably better. iZombie season 1 Definitely one of those guilty pleasure comfort shows for me. I'll start season 2 at some point soon. Braindead Only 1 season and then cancelled, which is a shame. Good characters and dialogue, and amusing plot. Also Mary Elizabeth Winstead is gorgeous. Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 1 Funny show with good performances. I've recently started season 2. Sneaky Pete season 1 Amazon drama with the guy who played Phoebe's brother in Friends, the woman who liked key lime pie in Dexter, and the guy from Malcolm in the Middle who became a drug kingpin. I ate a dvd the other day... I much prefer floppy disks and cartridges, but your choice seems interesting. I might have to try it one day. What film do you recommend I eat? Please, nothing scary, it gives me bad indigestion!

Please, nothing scary, it gives me bad indigestion! lol ...well, I was going to say Ektachrome because it sounds more spooky. Do they taste as good as they smell? They could stand a bit of hot mustard. ********************* Actually to be more on topic.. lol (imagine that!) We've been watching all the Doctor Who episodes from season 101 on recently.. Never had a chance to watch them all before and as they are on Amazon Prime... we watch one or two every night with dinner. Dinner and a Doctor!

Doctor Who has been rerun on free-to-air so many times where I live, Old Who is even broadcast online at iView. My favourite episodes are The empty child, The age of steel and The library; though a few more come to mind.
