Sphinx

Hello friends,

my "Solar One" still isn't done, but I couldn't help to already start a new project! Its the lbp3 version of a Ravensburger game from 1987 called "Sphinx". Two players have to find their way through a labyrinth to find the legendary treasure chamber of the mysterious Sphinx! The player who reaches the treasure chamber first is the winner! The players are operating in turns, each player can walk field after field vertically or horizontally until he bumps into a wall! If one player collides with a wall then its the turn of the second player!
The clue is that each player is creating the labyrinth for the other player before the game starts. You have to place the entrance, the treasure chamber and fifteen walls in a way that there is at least one continuous way from the entrance to the treasure! The players can see the entrance and the location of the treasure chamber, however not the walls.

"Sphinx" has been one of my favorite board games. It has some similarity with the classic battleship game.

I already have built the logic for the creation of the labyrinth, I'm now working on the movement system! I would say that the level is about 50% done.

Here are some first pics...

Hi friends,

I've been working hardly on my "Sphinx" project and I've made really good progress! The main game logic is functioning pretty well, In the labyrinth editor both players can set the positions of their entrance, treasure chamber and the walls without any problems, the created labyrinths can get transferred to the main game board now, and I've created an additional smaller gameboard for each player, where he can watch the exact position of his opponent so that you can see, whether your opponent is on the way into a deadlock, or whether he is dangerously near the treasure chamber. The design of this additional board is oriented towards the design of the original board game.
There's still a lot to do, but the main hurdels should be overcome already.

I'm an optimistic man but I'm not sooooo optimistic concerning the publishing on weekend! There are still lots of little details to be done and then I need some testing cause its a two player game and I've never done a two player game before.2017-02-06 15:13:00

Oh okay. I thought you were a good creator! Joke. Sorry! Well, if there is sth (that doesn't require PS+) I can help you with, I can do so.2017-02-07 00:44:00

I'm afraid that I won't be able to finish it this weekend already! Still so many little details to do! But I'm optimistic that you all won't have to wait too long anymore! Have a fine weekend and many greetings, Jürgen^^2017-02-10 21:08:00

Take the time you need. Games like LBP3 show us, that fast programming goes to bugs and sad faces. So maybe it is finished this year. I would be happy.2017-02-11 18:28:00

Hi friends,

time for a little update about the state of my "Sphinx" project! My first try to put all elements together failed because of our well known sticklers Mr. Thermo and Mrs. Overheat! So I had to spend some time for economizing my creation concerning the thermo costs! On weekend I will do my second trial! No matter, meanwhile I could optimize the labyrinth editors by adding some sound effects and the controls! The main game boards, where you explore the labyrinths seems also to function well, the testing will have to show, whether the transfer of the data of the labyrinth editors to the game boards will be without problems, also the transfer to the little maps, where you can watch the moves of your opponent. If the test results will be fine then there is only left to do the cut-scenes and the music! If not, then...I will start to believe in the "Curse of the Sphinx"
...I think there is any "Curse of the Sphinx", isn't it?

Have a fine weekend and many greetings, Jürgen^^

I agree, it's a curse!

Good luck and tell Mr. Thermometer and Mrs. overheat that they can leave the town. Wait, that's actually a option!

And again a little update...

I've started to elaborate the intro scene, I'm just trying to simulate a desert storm, and I've begun to do the music with an oriental touch! If I can finish the intro till weekend, then I can do the next trial to put all pieces together and with a little luck...
...we will see!

Have a fine week and many greetings, Jürgen^^
