Questions and answers:

1. Favourite lbp game in the series and why?
I really appreciate all the cool editor tools and gameplay features that came along with LittleBigPlanet 2 and 3. But based on the amount of fun that I had with a single title of the series, my answer has to be LittleBigPlanet 1. Back then it blew my mind and has been the one and only couch-co-op game that I've been playing for a while and it was great fun.

2. Favourite or most useful creator tool and why?
Sticker panels. When used in a right manner, they can make a LittleBigPlanet level look like a completely other video game. They do well for cool looking explosions and beautiful level backgrounds.

3. Where do you get your inspirations from for your creations?
Mostly from other video games. Everytime I'm playing a Game other than LittleBigPlanet and I'm having a good time with it, my first thought will always be: "Is there a way to bring this experience to LittleBigPlanet?"

4. How long does it typically take you to plan and make a level?
I'm creating levels like other people are consuming netflix series. Once I got a cool level idea that I'm excited about I'll spend most of my free time on building the level for around a week. When waking up from this real life hibernation the level either is finished or I'll give up on it.
There are a few exceptions, like my "Rise of Rome" level that took me almost half a year to finish. Lierally a creation hell for me.

5. How do you normally go about making a level / level making process? (come up with a theme first? / sketch things out, etc?)
It's different from level to level. But for the more complex projects I'm doing a lot of concept arts and sketches, collect screenshots and artworks from other video games.
In fact I've got a huge pile of paper sheets full of notes and drawings for my LittleBigPlanet levels right beside me. Probably the most geeky and nerdy pile of paper sheets I've ever owned and ever will.

6.Is there any particular reason you make levels that look vastly different from the normal LBP levels?
The hard truth is, I'm a little tired of LittleBigPlanet. After eight years and three games it's not too much of an excitement for me to play any more platformer levels. So I'm trying to exchang the classic jump&run mechanics with new controls and gameplay ideas.

7. What is the most challenging thing about making levels that differ so much from the general lbp aesthetic? Or is it quite easy?
I personally don't think it's technically harder to build a strategy level with ships driving around than making a good platformer. Some people just seem to consider crazy level ideas to be a crazy amount of work.

8. Are there limitations using the lbp create mode for the type of levels you make that have stopped you completing a level idea?
I'm a huge fan of strategy games. I play them a lot and I'm frequently trying to build my own strategy game in LittleBigPlanet. But either it's the epic castle building simulator turning out to be a pixel-stacking level or the galactic space battle game a clash of lagging stickerpanels.
In the end, LittleBigPlanet doesn't seem to be capable of displaying as many space ships, tanks, soldiers or buildings that i would like to have in my level. Neither it can handle well the amount of logic that's needed to realize good base building or combat controls.

9. Your favourite level that you made yourself?
"soccer with cars [2-4p]" is my favourite, i think. Ironically it's probably my level with the least innovative gameplay idea and the least amount of work put into it in my whole portfolio of levels.

10. Tips for budding creators?
Don't use that many decorations please.

11. are you working on anything now?
I'm making a multiplayer arena game with tanks - similar to "Naval Battlefield" that had ships instead. The visuals look great so far and the sound effects are some of the best that i have made so far. I'm currently really hyped for that level idea and I hope to make this a finished level soon.

12. Features / tools you wish existed in lbp?
I wish there was a tool to create and animate "real" User Interfaces that are independend from the camera angle or light settings.
Another feature, I wish that existed, is an option that allows to choose wether or not an object is visible for a specific player. That would open the door for a plenty of cool multiplayer levels, i think.
If you want me to go nuts with this question, I would also like to have some sort of "expert mode" where, creators that are capable of programming, could enter their own logic by coding.
I love the LittleBigPlanet editor for being that easy, compared to regular video game creation tools. But still, the endless possibilities of combining the LBP editor with real scripting and programming are compelling.

13. What other games do you play?
I would like to describe myself as an art loving video game enthusiast, but based on my Steam Bib it comes down to these two games: War Thunder and Dark Souls.
I'm writing this on April 11th. I'll lay odds on plenty of Souls-themed levels coming from me in near future.

14. Who are some of your favourite creators? (a small selection is fine, preferably < 5)
ITARBOYI
TheNotorious-187
DISARMED

15. Who would you like to see us interview next?
I think RtooDee2 deserves an interview. Not only he's talented with visuals, but also adds some really good humor to his levels.

LSRS:
Hope everyone enjoyed this interview, and feel free to message me with any suggestions on who you would like interviewed next. I will try to get in touch and pick apart their brains! =)

Surprised y'all don't link him directly on this page. And it would be neat to have the ones he recommended be linked as well. I have never heard of a lot of these other creators.2016-09-07 12:07:00
