Ah, and so the great masterpiece of a thread arrives. I'll take this time to get some opinions on my newest signature

It is just so cool. The effects are just awesome, the render is awesome.

What effects did you add apart from the render?

I actually used no effects whatsoever, just some grunge brushes. :O The flames along the bike worked well, I placed it over the torso and head render and then it fit like a charm. It just came out better than I expected it to, by a long shot.

yeah Ghost that sig is actually really awesome!
the only thing i would suggest is making the text more noticable.

What about the sig i just finished no more than 30 minutes ago

Yeah, I've said previously that I'm bad at text, thanks for the suggestions though, I'll get to work on some text texts around GIMP.

And what can I say about your latest and greatest signature? It's 100% pure amazement, my face actually lit up when I saw it. This is where you become a fantastic GIMP artist, Snrm, you actually amaze me with how quick you've picked stuff up.

For starters, the background is phenomenal, it's so detailed yet so fitting to the render. It almost looks as if this piece of fantastic artwork opens up, sending in flares of light all around the signature, and Sora is squinting due to the sign of light. I can just imagine it actually, and it's possibly the most realistic background to a render I've seen on this site.

This signature marks where you're signatures are about to get pretty **** good. I hope you continue to utterly astonish us all with your epic signatures, Snrm

Nice background I'm guessing grunge brushes? How did you do the outline of the render exactly, never seen that before. I agree with Ghost, you've started using different methods with your sigs. Can only get better.

I thought this was a Kick--- render that I had to use, I really didn't do much, duplicated the layer several times, Blur/Gaussian blur/Motion blur/noise and toggled the layer settings. Also obviously the awesome border.

I never got much feedback on this one, I think it is one of my favourites however I do not know why. :l Unfortunately the hair isn't perfect.

Thanks Ghost

and i can teach you how to do Text well.... this is how i was taught for Gimp... i just copied and pasted it from the first tutorial.

Now for the text:

Pick out a font that you want for the main text of the signature:

I picked the font "JellyBelly". Select white as a colour, then type out your screen name. Now center the text onto your sig, then anchor it.

Now go to layers->Transparency->Alpha to Selection. Now make a new layer, and move it BELOW the text layer.

Now make sure that your default colour is black, then got to Edit->"Stroke Selection". Under "Stroke Line" select "3", then hit OK.

Now unselect everything, then select the text layer and merge it down onto the stroked text layer.
Now duplicate your text layer, put a Gaussian Blur of 8 (or less) on the layer, then and set the duplicated, top layer to "Darken Only". Now merge down that layer over top of your text layer.

Now go to Colorize, and input the settings that you originally set for the background (or something similar).

Hit OK.

hoped that helped with the text

and for the background of my sig and first started with it using the Knucks brush set and then with white used a Really light brush set called Odysee.
The odysee brush set is what made the whitish lines coming from the lighter area at the right

And Boomy
The first one looks great actually really cool

for the second one it looks really great but for the beauty text i would have used the Acknowledge TT (BRK) font for it

The one at the top works very well and everything in it looks effective and fresh, nothing blurred and everything in perfect preportion. Just looking at it, one word springs to mind immediately: 'stunning'. Honestly, nothing at all in that piece of art could be faulted, unless it was being reviewed by Simon Cowell. It also never seems to grow old to look at, and the colours feel vivid, even if they may be rather dark. What I'm saying is, there's nothing for me to suggest about it other than to maybe add text? I just think it might make it look a little better, I'm not sure though so you'd have to try it out.

***

The second is one of my favourites also. It looks slightly simple, but also rather complex in the fact that it makes you love it immediately.

However, the background is slightly empty, but I think looks better like that. If it was overly complicated, it would take away the fact that it was so mindblowingly awesome. Everything clicks into place perfectly, and nothing is placed wrongly, it all just looks smooth and clean, except for maybe the strands of hair fluttering to the right. You can see a rough outline, which maybe spoils this slightly, like you said, but still is not enough to take away much credibility from this signature.

Normally, I don't see signatures with text close to the centre, but it's probably the first signature I've seen that works perfectly like that.
The fact that you wrote beauty in it just made me fall in love with it the most. It stands out and is eye catching, but isn't too much impact to make your eyes bleed because it's so in your face.

Overall, these are some fantastic pieces of artwork, and are an inspiration to others wishing to do any topics similar to these ones.

EDIT: Ah, I suppose I'll enter my 'classic' signature here too

It looks preety cool i got to admit... i always loved that big steel guy from fallout 3 even though i have never had or have the game. Its really cool to look at but its kinda almost a stock image if you know what i mean.... You did a lot with it im sure but it kinda has a feeling that not much was done... im sorry its just kinda weird to me i dont know sorry

i used these brushes to make my current sig if anyone cares

That's true, but you can barely see the background anyway. I always thought that when I first uploaded it, but surprisingly it was pretty popular.

I believe there isn't, otherwise there'd be plenty of YT videos on it. I suppose we'll just have to deal with having worse brushes than they do.

It depends of which context you are using them. Perhaps if you're doing a game such as Killzone 2 as a signature, you could add a bit of blood around the edges as it does in the game when you are injured.

Fortunately thats a brush that I can imitate using a complicated technique

Ghost thanks so much for the awesome feedback.

Not really keen on it to be honest with you, I just don't think the background and render are suiting of one another. Plus, I think the text doesn't fit whatsoever with the rest of the signature.

Sorry for being harsh, Snrm, just think you've done better.

Yeah, Snrm, the background and text are pretty decent, but the render doesn't blend whatsoever with them. Perhaps try editing the colour of it a bit, or maybe add a few extra features onto the signature that will smoothly bring the render and background together in a blend.

And with that comment, I bid you goodnight.

Much better, it blends much more. However, there is a slight bit of light on the end of the hair of the render. This kind of makes no sense along with the background, but other than that it's pretty good.

And Yarbone, that is phenomenal.

It may be a bit late... but, Maybe you should have used colors in the background, wich where also in the render.

Just maybe...

(yeah i know it's late to say >.<)

Yeh that is what I do, I copy/paste the render till it fills the background, duplicate/Blur/Noise/Motion Blur etc, then the renders colours are still in it. 2009-03-12 07:57:00

Anyway... what do you mean with "You should make sigs for yourself!"?

I like the background... Maybe you shouldn't have added the red though, maybe a bit mor green and yellow.

@LittleBigMe, nice job I like it, i think the background mathes Naruto really well, since his shirt on the left is green, and so is the background on the left. Maybe add a little more yellow to the right..? Dunno, do what you think works out best

Ghost @ Really good. The background matched perfectly!

Olit123 @ Great! Soooo soooo cool. I think you used a C4D for behind the background but I dont know. If you did, you are amazing at picking C4D's!

Also, my sig is a render of the 4th Hokage not Naruto He He. Though it has been revealed by the Manga that naruto is the son of the 4th Hokage. Sadly, the 4th Hokage used the Death Reaper Seal on the Kyuubi (Demon Fox) which requires the users life. So when the 4th sealed the Kyuubi in his newborn son (Naruto) he died. HAd to get tht out :]

I quite like it but I'll give ya' some tips:

-Border doesn't really go (try just using a small black border, because you don't really need a flashy one)

-The text
If you wan't to make a standing out text try getting a killzone font off the internet or a more sci-fi font.
If you just wan't your text to be small and simple try and use one of the default boring font's and remember to make it small, like I did in my newest sig. Also, remember to choose a colour from your actual stock for it, so it doesn't stand out so much.

-More effects
Search on the internet on how to do more effects, because at the moment, I can only spot one on the left. try chucking in a C4D (http://planetrenders.net/renders/thumbnails.php?album=1) and changing the blend mode so it looks good.

Geez, Olit. You're sigs are now starting to blow me a way, fantastic job on all of them.

EDIT: Okay, I have four backgrounds here:

http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/Greenpandaz/Experiment3.png

I would like to know which you think looks better overall.

The little splotches you see are simply yet to be covered, they are just some transparent bits.

Oh forgot to say wich one was best right? I don't think you could compare the white one with the bleu ones actually, because it depends on what signature you're making.
I like the 1st one best because i liek those snowflakes :3 (except for the big blob on the right, actually). But overall i Like the White one most

Ah, hold on, I'll just work on getting rid of the splotches on the white one and then post it again here.

EDIT: Here it is:

2 things.

1. The white one.

2. Make sure that you background interacts with your render. Your post just popped up... You should decide on you render BEFORE a background is made. A sig should have a color scheme based around it's render, not the other way around. I don't like to make backgrounds first, it make it too separate for my liking. Good luck!

Mm... that's what I usually do, and I plan to still edit it, once my render has been added.

I just basically need a render of the Grim Reaper/Death, I was planning on using that from the start, although it's very difficult to find one with high quality.

EDIT: Nevermind, I have the perfect render.

It's the visceral quality and stark symbolism of the image that people are responding to, I think. There's a big difference between design and rendering.

First pop-out sig:

Trnsformers:
http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/Boomworthy/Megatron1.png

Take your pic

Alright, I know this was posted a while back, but I decided just to give a brief opinion on them.

1. As I recall, that planet one was the first I saw of your signatures, and it blew me away. I know you used the tutorial to create the thing, but still, it's fairly amazing with the stars, border and text.

2. I've never been a massive fan of that dragon one, although I love the flame effect on it. It's acceptable if it was the first use of that effect though. Infact, studying closely, the only thing I actually dislike about the sig is the plain black background. It's pretty good, actually.

3. Heh, not much to say about this one. It's pretty cool, and the text isn't bad at all.

4. What can I say? This one is amazing, like all your other AC signatures. Gawd, it looks really professional, and there are no errors on it, except for maybe the text being slightly too small.

5. This is a blatant C4D effect in the background, but it works perfectly with the Haze render, looking similar to an actual image from the game. I also absolutely adore the effect you used over it, giving it a slightly TV-like appearance.

6. I believe this one was the first pop-out sig I saw, and thought it was pretty cool. I have to say, I'm not too keen on the background for this one, semi-spoiling the signature.

7. God, when I first saw this, I didn't think it was too good. But I keep looking back at it, and I find it to be superb. The render blends fantastically, and it all looks like a big metallic signature, that makes you feel like the guy's staring at you. Personally, this is one of my favourite of your sigs, and I take back that comment by saying it's not one of your best, as it's VERY good.

Yarbone! He made both of em, but not from scratch. I gave him a picture with the bear and some roots, i believe it's on page 6 of 7 from this thread. You can see the original picture there. I love both of my sigs 2009-03-15 15:53:00

Anyone have any ideas as to what I could make a signature of?

EDIT: I officially have no ideas, therefore making bad ones.

Both incredible sigs Awesomemans.

I know why others and I love the popout one so much. The popout effect is supposed to create a sense of depth and realism. The shuriken and the rope attached to it makes the sig reach out into the third vector. It really fulfills the aim of a popout sig.

The Noby Noby boy one is great because... Well... NNB IS SO COOL.

Give it time, maybe have a break from sig making for a week or a few days etc... If not have a look on other GFX sites for other peoples work.

Sometimes when I get bored of sig making it is because I am using the same technique for every sig I do. Also, get PS there are so many more tools than Gimp (I'm guessing you use Gimp).

I actually have PS, although I've never found any interests from it other than drawing with a pad.

I'm gonna sound terrible here, but I dont think you can own a sig if you follow a tutorial. Sorry guys, it's just that you have copied what someone else has done. Yes, it turns out different but it's still the same sig.2009-03-17 13:27:00

Lol... I don't make sigs out of tutorials... I just completely follow the tutorial, and that way i learn a lot. Actually every tutorial is usefull. I learn something new everytime.

I mean i'm not gonna say i made something myself... when it actually isn't. Tutorials have helped me because i didn't know where to start

(did I make any sense there <_<)

Yeah, you did, and I think that's what people should do. I mean research can be done by simply reading tutorials. It's not as if you have to take all the information, but there may be particular parts that can be used in signatures that are completely different.

I love the face shield - that was part of the original render right? Cause if not, I've been trying all week to make an effect that looks like a reflection in sun glasses or goggles. Also of note: Heroes has an e in it.

I have never used a tutorial - but I don't use PS either, I'm downloading v9 right now. Someday I'll start looking at tutorials when I run out of ways to make cool looking sigs

I'd like to make a request if I could.

I was wondering if anyone wanted to take up the task of making me a new sig, and seeing if they can beat Code's. Anyone wanna try to? It must be evilly and stuff... NO silliness :O

... Is this the correct place for a request? I don't want to single out one person, I want to ask everyone to see which one is most interested.

Hi all! Just want to post some edits I did to a Portal Wallpaper. I edited it to put on my twitter background.

Before:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l36/dan99iel/Video-Game-Portal-39000jpg.jpg

After:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l36/dan99iel/EditedPortal.jpg

I redid the line at the top because it was too much of a hassle to line up a new line to the existing one. I also had to complete the incomplete top left box's line. I made the image have more space all around (For twitter reasons).

It's not much, but I like what I did to it and it makes an awesome twitter background.

Wow - don't normally comment on here - but I should come on more often!

I was really attracted to this sig - simple, clean, well-chosen background (did you make it yourself...did you.. please say you did!) You should enter the sig contest V5!

It reminds me of the visuals used by Odeon Cinema's except in blue..

Nice Depth of field too.

Just.... really eye-catching.

_____________

Leonardo - good use of layers and png transparency, but the sig text looks kinda way outa place. I also see loads of attempts at this kind of theme here so it doesn't really stand out for me... (EDIT - ooh - you've changed it - quite like it now!)

---------------

EDIT - ok - you've changed it again.. there's no knowing if my comments are worth anything now!

Blue-white is good on grey, in my opinion. I did that on my ironmole sig a long time ago.

Thanks

Very nice sig + avatar Love the colours and textures within the pics although the helghast are meant to be darker and also to be more related with killzone i think you should put the text in Yellowish writing and if you cant see the writing if you change the colour, use the burner tool on the background to darken behind the text to make it viewable thats what i did, thats the only problem i have with the pic Nice choice of Font + positioning of the text.

Oh and ive fixed My In Deep Water text problem =D (When i uploaded it to the internet, the text looked blurry and pixelated) Anyway, here it is

LBS, I would either change the text in your sig as well, or keep the old avatar. And for the sig, it would probably look better with a border. Since I see you used photobucket, you could just edit from there and not worry about reuploading. I do that all the time because I forget the borders too.

I posted this in my thread, but I really want some critique for it, cuz it's different than anything I've ever done in most every way.

It is very different and I applaud you for that.

The use of radial gradient is used well.

My only real gripe is the quality of edges being pixellated. What app did you use?

Looking at the hand, it might have benefotted from a filter to make it look a little less real - i.e. cutout or posterise or something like that to blend the style with the background.

Other than that - very original and stands out well.

Those were just brushes. I had to erase some bits though cuz they looked really pixelated(one or two pixels at random places, stuff like that). I guess that's what you get sometimes with shrunken brushes

Very similar to my first try I suggest experimenting with all the filters, as Bass suggested use the Gimptalk site as it offers alot of help, I also used it.

A few tips:

For borders, I seem to find that a simple 1-2 pixel black border looks much smoother and makes the image look more professional.

If you want a more advanced but still simple border, make a new layer, transparency, then:
Make the colour you are using black
Edit menu:
Select all
Stroke selection (edit menu)
Set it to 8px
Ok

Make the colour you are using white
Edit menu:
Select all
Stroke selection (edit menu)
Set it to 6px
OK

Make the colour you are using black
Edit menu:
Select all
Stroke selection (edit menu)
Set it to 4px
OK

Then set the layer to overlay, this is done where the scroll bar that has default set to normal on the layer management window that should be too the right of your screen when gimp is opened.
An example of this border can be seen on my newest signature which contains The Hulk.

Also, when resizing an image, use the image menu bar on the main window, and select the scale image option, as you make the X and Y values lower, increase the pixel res, this means you do not loose resolution as you resize the render.

You know what? - I realy like that!!! It's simple, understated, colour balanced, well textured - nice effect going on at the left - good focus.

Shame about the text, which looks a bit out of place.

P.S:
Same with Rhy, however text is usually hit and miss, try to use text that seems to fit, but to be honest I only use one type for my tag.

Tip:
Try to use a colour that is in the signature, for example a predominantly blue signature does not merit bright red text.

Pretty cool though.
Also the render is awesome, including the effects behind him

Any ideas on another character for an emotion/characteristic for Happiness or sadness or something like that? Darkness seems a bit cheesey :l

Did you have to find all the quotes?

It looks great. The only problem is that I cannot read the big words. Carpe ___? dien?

Omg ' Seize the day - Avenged Sevenfold' or rather a quote from the song, is in there! epic win!

Hey once again everyone

Let me preface this by saying that I am not returning, but I really value your opinions. So, I'd like some opinions and critiques of this. It's very large(3450x1882), so I am going to link to it.

http://uploadingit.com/file/ltmq9m0lmwhx6p8v/daniel2.png

I made this for my girlfriend's birthday and am going to have it printed out on canvas. Please say something, I know this thread doesn't get a ton of replies but please let me know what you think so I can improve on it. Thanks guys.

Not the best feedback I know, but I can't think of a way to describe how good that is! She'll love it.

Thanks a lot man. Unfortunately, it seems that I'll probably have to start over as this picture isn't nearly big enough. I wish these print companies made things a little clearer. A lot of it will carry over and I have plenty of time so I'll post the new one when I finish.

Edit: nevermind actually. The final version is too big to really host anywhere, and it's the same picture sized up and with a few things changed to reduce blurriness. If anyone wants to comment on the other file, it is greatly appreciated. Leather-Monkey, I really do appreciate you taking a look and commenting.

decided to create my own sig and seeing as my username is "cthulhu82" i decided that nothing would be better than a sackboy version of Cthulhu...so i decided to draw one.

This is what I have so far

I dub him "SACKTHULHU"
