very disappointed with the newest selection of instruments

Archive: 5 posts

so i downloaded the tiki paradise pack, played it to 100%, and i'm now messing around with some of the stuff

i should have seen this coming, since sumo has a massive hardon for percussion instruments, but jesus christ! at launch, we got one new melodic instrument (the ukulele), which is basically a clone of the nylon string guitar with less utility. now, we have 6 out of 9 new instruments, that - get this - sound almost exactly like existing ones! but with less utility!
the daiko sounds like the woodblock instrument from the junk kit, the brush kit is literally a cymbal (which we have a ton of thanks to the standard kit), the surf kick is basically a bass drum, which we also get from the standard kit! the ramwong sounds just a bit too similar to some of the new drums introduced at launch, the octoban sounds too similar to the ramwong, and the gyil sounds too similar to the marimba.

that being said, the pan flute, surf guitar, and gong are better because they can stand on their own. i wouldn't take issue with the other instruments if they were more complete. i mean, the surf kit doesn't even have a steel drum, a staple of tropical music!

other than that, i'm happy with the rest of the kit.

Hi LuigiM9,

I totally agree with you, to me also the pan flute (yeah!!), the surf guitar and the gong are the instruments, which are really useful to extend the sounds! The gong however cost so much musicsequencer thermo that the application possibilities are limited!
But on the other side...did anyone expect that there would be new instruments at all?? Not me! So I'm not really disappointed, and maybe that sometime there will be a new surprise kit with all the desired music instruments like an organ, a string orchestra, a saxophone, a didgeridoo, lots of more different flutes, a zither, a jaw harp and a harmonica...

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

I too am always disappointed when it comes to new music tools. Especially on ps4, I find that everything is all percussiony and synthesized. I personally prefer the limited collection in the vita version to the LBP3 versions simply because they have nicer, fuller sounds, or at least try to. The main instrument I miss the most, is the string (LBP3 has Strings-Synthesized which sounds truly awful)2016-06-19 10:52:00

i've only played vita once, so i'm not sure if we're thinking of the same instrument, but strings legato sounds nice enough if you bought the move pack. did you never buy lbp2/get the special edition? i have a friend whose DLC from the special edition didn't carry over.

Huh, I haven't seen that instrument, but I also lost all content from packs on my switch from PS3 to PS4, and don't have a PS4 move. I'll have to see what you mean some day.2016-06-26 08:48:00
