How to Make A Sackbot "Mirror Gag"?

Archive: 3 posts

I want to make a Super Mario themed haunted house level with the Wario Brothers as the final boss and I thought it would be fun to start the level with the old mirror gag, in other words, the old bit in which two characters are on opposite sides of each other and perfectly imitating each other's movements. This particular version of the gag would have Mario and Luigi walking down a hallway with mirrors along the wall, each one reflecting the two of them perfectly, until the last mirror which reflects them as Wario and Waluigi. The entire time, the "reflections" would act like proper reflections, perfectly mimicking player input, until you leave the area, at which point the camera lingers on the mirror and the Wario Brothers walk back into view.

I know I'll have to use Sackbots for this, but that's the only thing I know. Can anyone help me with this? Of course, I could make the level without this, but I'm sure it would add a fun level of silly creepiness to it all. If you like, you can join me on PSN (I'm FractiousLemon there as well) and discuss it in game as I'm sure it'd be easier to explain with visuals.

Thanks in advance!

You would have to have an area that is not seen next to each mirror. To save thermo I would emit a sackbot but you might not need to, or you could just emit the area when in range. The sackbot would then have two components 1) a controllinator that is not remote control and set to override sackbot, and 2) a controllinator(receiver) in a microchip that is activated by a player/tag sensor when in front of the mirror (have the back area end just as the range of this sensor ends). Hook up all of the outputs to all the buttons on the receiver controllinator to the input of all the buttons on the overriding controllinator. That should do it!2016-05-22 08:45:00

Thanks for the advice! I think I'm getting the hang of it now! One last question, though. The mirror is placed directly behind the character, so to complete the effect, is there a way I can have the sackbot stand with its back to the character when it's not moving? I've managed to make it stand at that position, but the problem is that when its walking, it continues facing the back of the stage and ends up walking sideways. Not exactly a perfect mirror image.2016-05-24 15:30:00
