Silent points

Archive: 6 posts

Hi, it's been a while since I've been on here but just picked up LBP3 and loving it so far! I'm making a new level and want to award points. I have a score giver which awards 10 points for a correct button press, however want it to be silent and not make that popping points noise. Has anyone got any idea how to accomplish this? I know I can turn down in global settings, however that also turns down everything else!

Thanks

I recall hearing that in LBP2, you could override some default sound effects by triggering a sound object with it's volume set to 0. I don't know if that works in LBP3 (or at all, I haven't tested) but it would be quick and easy to try out and see.2016-03-17 22:54:00

Thanks Pookachoo - Just tried this, also put in a timer and global audio tweaker to try and cut sfx volume when the points are scored but it is messy and cuts off so other audio in game (I would rather have the bubble pop sound!)

An alternative option for me seeing as it is not important to see the score mid game would be to allocate points out at the end of a game, does anyone know of a good way to do this? I basically need to store up a memory of correct answers and give points in 1 hit (ideally without using emitters and points bubbles that dump on the player at the end!)

Thanks

Here's a tutorial on feedback loops which would act as a counter for your alternative method. With notes you could also display the score at any time without giving the score immediately. Then you could give the score all at once via a score giver set to signal strength or something (it's one of the input options). Also, this video was made a while ago so there are a few comments to make on it. A) Adding is done through OR gates now (just tweak them). B) That number output is done by notes now (just tweak the bottom settings). C) I'm not sure if he says this (probably does) but to get signals lower than 1% which probably will be needed to increase the max score, hook up batteries to an AND gate set to multiply then put that output on a microchip as a node and while unpaused, set that nodes output as its input (use a note to check that it's the right number you want to add). D) Subtracting can be done through an OR gate as well if the signal is negative, but the method he uses works too.

An alternative counter is the selector method which uses a selector with 10 inputs (0-9) for each digit in a number. This also allows for showing of score through notes, but requires a note for each digit. The tutorial is for LBP Vita but works perfectly in LBP3 as well. Here is the link. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=83533-How-to-Create-a-Custom-Money-System) This system is not as versatile as the feedback loop option, but can be better for certain cases. If you want score multipliers or any other manipulation of the score, I would go with feedback loop approach.

The feedback loop would be the way to give the score in 1 hit whereas the counter method would be 5 or so score givers. Either way you set the score giver to the maximum amount you can get (maybe it's impossible to get this high, but theoretically) and hook it up with an AND gate set to the feedback loop and a trigger which tells when to add the score once. If you want to use the selector method each selector would have to be hooked up like this but with tag sensors (as explained in the post) and each score giver set up to a maximum for each power of 10 (10 for 0-9, 100 for 10-90, 1000 for 100-900, etc)

Thanks for your reply, in the end I set up a selector to give points in single digits, double, triple etc and it's working perfectly, the tutorials you posted however were great and I learned a few things from them 2016-03-25 10:38:00

Thanks again for your help, just wanted to let you know that the level I was creating is now published if you wanted to give it a go looking for as much feedback as I can get!
