Hey guys! Back in the early days of LBP3s release there was an IGN article (http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/20/littlebigplanet-3-nearly-featured-sackworm) interviewing Pete Smith about the new characters in the game. While Smith talked a lot about character design, he mentioned a discarded character named Sackworm who "wasn't deemed a game changer and didn't have enough personality" to be included. After reading this I immediately began plans to give Sackworm the glory he/she/it deserved! Since then I have created a functional character who is fun to control and play with. Lets be honest, when talking about Sackworm having enough personality, this video speaks for itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7G0Kr3TYqg This isn't my first time making custom characters but Sackworm is a bit more complicated because I have to put multiple gameplay elements into one character (eg. grabbing, swinging, digging, ect.). The hardest part about making characters is having them feel polished. There are so many levels out there that attempt this but end up making an awkward floating box. You have to keep your character interesting so the players WANT to play your level. Another good way of making your character intriguing is by simply giving him emotions. A lifeless character is a boring character, so bring out some personality with expressions or dialogue. In Sackworms case I really wanted to focus on emotes since it works so well with sackboy. The last thing I'm focusing on is a new gameplay mechanic. Swoop can fly, Toggle and shrink or grow, Oddsock can run up walls, and Sackworm can DIG. The plan is to make cool puzzles along with platforming segments. Digging underground to find hidden secrets sounds perfect for our slippery friend. I'm planning to create a two to three level adventure for sackworm where he must fight dark forces and save the world! I have finally polished sackworm enough so the levels can be started, but these may take some time to complete. I'm used to making short mini-games so this platformer will push me a little out of my comfort zone.
