Rotating Circle in Z-Axis?

Archive: 9 posts

I want to make a thin circle primarily in the Z axis that rotates. Firstly, how would I achieve that look? I was thinking a decoration spinner, but there is no flat circle in the basic shapes decorations.

Secondly, I want to have objects that are attached to the circle rotate around in the circle, or at least that's what it would look like. I was thinking that to make it appear as if they're rotating properly I would need a combination of wave generators and advanced movers, but I'm having troubles getting it to rotate properly.

Can someone help me here?

Tip: The in/out speed units are ((20/21)units/second)/layer. Per tick this is ((6/21)/u/s)/l. All of this is when the mover is at 100.0 speed. If you adjust your left/right and up/down speeds to match your in/out speeds when according to this, then your speeds should be terrific. Perfectly symmetrical (although you have to factor how thick the layer is compared to how wide it would be if rotated into the x axis, and that I do not know, someone else would have to give you that info)2015-11-28 05:27:00

i believe each layer is 9.52 lbp units deep, a single thick layer has 142.8 units of z movement, and a single thin layer has 152.32 units of z movement.
these are based on my own findings so could be off (disclaimer)

edit: just threw this together, the platform itself isn't rotating, cant seem to get decorations large enough while using the rotatind disc, but the other decos moving and rotating make it look like it is.
is this what you are after?

Thanks for the help, guys! I'm mainly still confused on how the wave generator exactly works, so any help there would be appreciated.

Just like that, but vertically instead of horizontally.

the one in the vid doesnt use a wave generator, still havnt found a use for them personally
instead it references a bit of sticker panel rotating normally with a chip for each of the moving objects, their positions are measured relative to external tags and are recreated on the new axis using feedback movement and a positional in/out mover

I agree with Evret. 2D mapping is the way to go. Imagine a round piece of sticker panel spinning and translate that into the z axis. The up/down information gets turned into the in/out, while left/right is comparable. Use speed sensors on your sticker panel to give information to the movers on your objects.

The wave generator really makes a wave. Sounds silly, but you need to think of it like a bent string, or an S shape. No mater what parameters you set for it. A single cycle will consist of 1 max value, 1 min value, and 3 median values. Which isn't a big deal for a continuous movement, like plugging it into a decoration mount, but makes it hard to use for other things.

speed sensors would require the the objects start in the desired formation, which can be difficult coz they would snap to nearest layer unless you are using logic to move them into place, speed sensors also have the potential for going out of sync, as the speed sensor - mover method is not 100% accurate.

when i get a chance i will turn the one i posted on twitter yesterday on it's side, publish it and make it copyable

it's using tag sensors to test the current position and applying that positional data to the other axis, this is how my minecraft and 3d toggle demo work, though they are more than just a rotating disc

Alright, that makes a lot more sense now. It sounds easier to do as well. Thanks for the help!2015-11-29 04:39:00
